They wrote so many brilliant songs , but i always love this powerful song. The solo from George is absolutely brilliant. Steve 👍
George’s crunchy and silky solo, untouchable
Crunch, silky....and filled with barbed wire and a guitar scream at the end. Vintage Lynch at the top of his game IMHO.
U guys do the comments..
mine get deleted no lie 😮 two week Cowboy, care it on. George is a master of melody and tone, and thats to start with
The image of Lynch's shadow ripping his guitar solo off in the cemetary was just classic!
It's actually his silhouette but yes a cool image for an awesome solo!
oath bro
One underrated axeman.
100
Actually they couldn't get permit to do the grave yard part ,, they made fake grave yard .Look at the lane tombstones .
Quality of the music video looks so good in 2024, for a 1985-86 Dokken song.
Early 1988, but yes. You're right.
George's solos always make a statement. His vibrato and pick attack are unequaled.
The DON of Dokken, Mr. Don Dokken had the most beautiful, melodic voice in rock at that time. I played this album until I wore out the grooves. Damn, I miss those days!
indeed. Lots of soul. In fact, he sounds so much like Klaus from the Scorpions, that they had him cut vocal tracks for the Blackout album. That's why he was in Germany and how he got signed. Crazy!
This song takes me back 30 years......George's solo still gives me chills.......
One of the greatest guitar solos ever.
Dude can Really whail!!!!!😎
Absolutely!
This is why he is named Mr Scary
Absolutely. It's fucking ferocious.
George is a maestro. I’d put him up against anyone.
Lynch with his bluesy riff at 1:26 area, perfect and leads to his usual ridiculously awesome mastery. Can play the song midway through over and over, never gets old.🎸
🔥🔥🔥👏🏾
🎉
Who's listening & watching in 2024🤘🤘🤘🤘 dokken rule 💯💯💯 Been a fan since 82 i was 15 years old and got to see them in there prime 84'85:87'88cheers from Pasadena CA 🎃🎃🎃 perfect Halloween song 🤘🤘🤘🤘
During the Van Halen's Monsters of Rock tour, Dokken was part of the line up (along with other bands) at the Miami Orange Bowl (now replaced and long since torn down). During Dokken's session it began to rain hard, most attendees (including some in our group) retreated for cover, but some hardcore fans stay with us (my eldest sister--now decease, and my twin brother and I remained) and continue to rock on as did Dokken.
Then, overhead, the clouds were beginning swirling like a massive cyclone was forming above us, and the rain showered down harder with each passing minute during this very song of Dokken. When they reached the point of the song singing the chorus "Heaven Sent," they asked those who remained in the stadium to sing with them, and help send this storm away. Everyone (including us) began chanting "Heaven Sent" as did Dokken himself pointed at the clouds above, and then, the rain gradually began to subside, and the sun parted the clouds, shinning through onto the stage, and it was TOTALLY AWESOME!
As if it was planned and part of the freakin show!
That was the absolute BEST concert experience I ever had--those were the days of Stadium ROCK at its best!
I've done shrooms too !
@@wisdomoverfear2685 😂😂😂🤘
Wow that’s a cool story man
That is awesome! Thank you for sharing!!!
@@toasttoasted3492 Yes, it was a great memory, of a classic time when corrects were an event back in those days, before the over saturation of entertainment, back then, it was about quality, and quantity. Although the Monster of Rock tour was no US festival, or Woodstock, it was still something to behold, and the headliners (Van Haen or better stated Van Haggar) did NOT disappoint, none of the bands did, they were all great--and Kingdom Come (who replace someone, can't remember--you'll understand when you get to my age...lol), who were followed up by Metallica, then came Dokken, Scorpion, and then Van Halen--the storm was a bonus, even though it threaten to end the concert, the fact that the bands--especially Dokken, were still willing to keep playing (in the rain with their electric guitars, etc.), because the fans--the hard core ones--we still willing to be there, really made it a great time. Those were the days, those were the 80's. Thanks for responding, GOD bless you and yours.
Another brilliant classic by dokken. Man, i miss these days. Its 2020, and i still play bands like dokken at full volume, screw the haters. Rokken with Dokken
🤣 me too
id be Sofa King We Todd Ded If i didnt agree completely with your statement SofaKing Kewl
So do I 👍
We are with you!

The scene of G. Lynch's silouette while playing the solo with a moon rim light and haze all around must be the best and most badass solo scene from any rock video. It is so 80's horror movie, like a scene from The Blob or The Fog or any werewolf movie from that era. Very elegant and dark at the same time.
Well said, as I watched the part as I read your comment. Will never get the credit he deserves for his gift, imo.
Underrated song by an underrated band in my opinion, I don't understand why Dokken didn't get the respect/recognition that they truly deserved?
Completely agree
I love this song bad
@@angerman777 Kix is a local favorite in the Central PA area
Yep used to have a hat and duster just like his and in the eighties damn it was fun walking the malls and bars looking like that lol.
@@joshhuskins5363 why did you stop? lol
That solo is pure magic. Lynch is an amazing guitar player.
No matter how many times I listening to this song I'm always amazed at how fantastic it is.
My favorite
YES!!!!! love this tune
I know 🤟
What a loss of one of the best bands always dokken you will never be gone rocks on forever
Truly underrated band. Met them back in 1985...they were signing autographs at a local record store...I was standing in line shitting myself, as they were the first band I had ever met, and I was only 16! I was so nervous, but they were all super cool. Don Dokken saw the pack of Marlboro's in my friends shirt pocket, and bummed a smoke! How cool was that!!! I still have those autographs I got. Along with dozens of others I met over the years.
thee4thdoctor I'd have loved to be you, I unfortunately have grown up in the age of auto tune and twerking, love dokken and glam metal in general
Ah well, you might have missed a great era of music, but at least your young. (or younger than me anyway!) So, that is your revenge! You're young, and you have all the time in the world, to change the music world, and help bring back good music like this!
My father has the under lock and key album signed by all the guys and he got to be George Lynch's guitar watcher/body guard
that's awesome....we were kids then... and they seemed super human....lol....tooooooo cool!
still love em
One of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded. The techniques, the melodies, the twists & turns, the complexity of the playing and structure, yet the melodies are so beautiful and so "easy on the ears" that you can easily follow it like a Mick Taylor or George Harrison, and hum it when it's done! Dokken is a great band with great songs. As big as they were, I think they were still vastly underrated. They could still do it, but Don needs some help. Medical, whatever, not our business, I just hope he pulls through. You guys ain't 6 feet down yet. Think of all the great musicians that have gone, and what all of us would do to have them back?! I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind either. Sean Black
No question, one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. Actual emotions.
A great song Don Dokken has a powerful beautiful voice that touches everyone's heart great song writer. George Lynch is one of the greatest guitar player in hard rock music. Great guitar solo Dokken one of the greatest bands of the 80s early 90s n still rocking 😎🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸🌹🌹❤️❤️🏋️🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🎸🎸🌹
Lynch is a beast! Love his Hair. Still Rocking Dokken 2023.
That solo was the absolute gem of solos...it was soooo on point for the song.
Its 2019 and music to day cannot compare to this. George Lynch is an absolute monster on this song!
No shiiit George was monster of his time......shredder
A large section of kids today can't stand todays crap. They love the 80's. And tune around on AM, FM and Shortwave, the 80's dominates. Buck Dharma of Blue Oyster Cult was asked why they still tour. He said because of public demand, they want to hear us. Of course "Us" can be used across the board to all 80's bands.
That solo though!!!!!
my Dad did a great job of introducing me to stuff like this as a kid, im now 22 years old and ive been jamming Dokken, Def leppard etc all through the 2000s
Pov: ur 12 and dokken is ur fav band as u can tell by my profile
You go kid!! I grew up on the classics, metal, rap when it absolutely first came out, 90's alternative. Believe me, there's allot of crap out now, but if you look a little harder, do some research, and you will find some amazing music and amazing bands doin' it!! And that's new stuff, AND old stuff. Oh yeah, one more thing.....there used to be these supernatural supreme alien beings out there. They were scary, powerful, beautiful, incredibly cool, got the hottest chick's and died in the fastest cars. They were called "Rock Stars". Check'em out. Sean Black
You're dad has great taste!
Don could never get past sharing the recognition with George.......George was simply a Front Man with a guitar !!!!!!!!!
Es un líder
You mean George could never get over the fact that Don made an album before he was even in the band and to this very day says Don stole music that he had no part of. Don couldn't get past it? Really? You mean the same Don that to this day still phones Lynch up to perform in live shows? The same Lynch that wrote the entire dumpster fire "Shadow Life" to steal all of Dons fans? Don couldn't get past what you say?
I would agree. Don wanted all the credit his self, part of what made them spit up.
Dokken epic band, guitars solo is amazing, Dokken forever
That guitar solo is PERFECTION!
What a guitar tone George has here in the solo! Unbelievable!!!!
Those who rate "stairway to heaven" and comfortably numb" guitar solos the greatest have never come across this beauty
I couldn't agree with you more about this guitar solo. George is the greatest guitar God ever. Even Randy Rhodes loved George.
Comfortably Numb is king. However, I think this might surpass Stairway to Heaven. This album tho is the king of guitar solos. I don’t think I’ve ever heard such consistently incredible guitar work over one album ever. And I adore Rust in Piece by Megadeth, which is considered to be the king of solos when it comes to albums
I tend to agree with your assessment, but the majority of people would rather hear hummable melodies than shred. We know how amazing it is, but most people won't appreciate it or care, sadly.
Of course this is more flashy, and there's obviously nothing wrong with that. It's a tremendous solo and Lynch is a beast. The reason Comfortably Numb is considered such an iconic solo is because it's beautifully melodic and because Gilmour's technique and bends are flawless, especially to the ears of other guitarists. To each their own. I love Lynch AND Gilmour...it just depends on my mood.
Great comment
George totally makes this song great and gives it mood. The slow guitar in the beginning to the escalating shredding later on. Bravo, great stuff.
Total agree!🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸
The must underrated metal band in the 80's.
daniel11076
You’re right, but only underrated by casual fans back then.
However, hard rock and metal fans back then knew, without a doubt, who Lynch was and his extreme talent.
Dunno. I've always felt that "honor" goes to Saigon Kick, but Dokken never got the credit/airplay inferior bands got..
I agree with jediprettboy. People who were really in the know did NOT under rate this band. Had to dig deeper than just crap like Poison. Bon Jovi. Or the pop Def Leppard garbage that came out after High n Dry
@@dkmcbigsley lol yeah, great band - and they did indeed get fucked.
The guitar tone in these solos are in a class all their own. Definable as Lynch's best work.
Used the same amp as Slash on GNR's 'Appetite' for Back for The Attack apparently.
His tone on this album is my favorite ever. Those chords snarl so much
@@licensetoshred its not as easy as you make it out to be, look what ive found
"The setup for George's guitar tone on "Under Lock And Key" was as follows:
We had two Marshall heads and two Laney heads, not sure which models, but one of them was a Plexi. We had cabs in three different rooms: two cabs were placed in the big room at Amigo, one connected to a Marshall, the other connected to the Laney. The Marshall was responsible for the high end part of the sound and the Laney was set to take care of the low end. There were 14 (fourteen) mics set up in that room in various psoitions around the cabinet and some further away to get some room tone. The second Laney was sent into a very dead room and had a Boss chorus pedal in front of it, set to very slight chorus. The second Marshall was sent into a small, tiled bathroom, to add a different room tone. Those 16 mics came in on the Mci 500 console mic pres. They were bussed to one bus and that bus had a Urei 530 EQ on it (best guitar EQ ever). George mentioned that he always gets a great tone with his Fostex 4track recorder when it's in total overdrive, so I asked him to bring it in. So after the 530 everything was sent to the Fostex 4track, which lived under a packing blanket under the console, so nobody would see it. The Fostex was on stunn, completely overdriven and was sent on to the 3M 32 track dig machine from there."
possibly the greatest guitar solos ever
No doubt bro
100%👍🎸👍🎸
Not possibly..... definitely
I miss the 80's some of the best music ever,, now its all cRAP!
I hear ya. Best decade ever as far as I’m concerned.
Funny but true
@@pureblood_straight_pride1853 Agreed!
Yup.
one of my favorite guitar solos of all time.
John Luders such a kick ass solo
One of the few who could shred, but still have bluesy hooks and be melodic without getting boring or predictable and his choice of notes is great. His sound isn't bad either.
Mine too. I think this was George's best, with "Mr. Scary" a very close second, and "Alone Again" an extremely close third.
this ties with The Hunter
Still sends a chill through my body when I hear Dokken. So amazing all these years later.
For me, this solo is George's finest moment. He always played something special, but this solo packs so much attitude and just the SICKEST Tone, Phrasing and Vibrato. Lynch is God
One of Dokkens coolest videos. Don Dokken is the epitome of cool and George just shredded it on guitar. Dokken was one of the best Hair metal bands of the 80’s along with Ratt.
I was born in Nov. of '64 and graduated high school in '83. I grew up in So. Cal., and feel very lucky to have been born at the right time, in the right place and to have come up listening to Dokken. They sure were special times back then, I'd kinda like to live through them again.
This is just about the greatest song I’ve ever heard because I don’t think it gets any better. Menacing opening rift, phenomenal vocals/chorus, great guitar riffs, great drumming, and good lord is that guitar solo awesome. Even the music video is good. It doesn’t get better
Dokken is very underrated band one of the best hairbands.
This is the best guitar sound ever recorded. This is the best guitar solo ever performed .all in the same song. Isn't there an award for this ?
That guitar solo is something serious tho
I love dokken . One of My favorites bands. Cheers from.mexico.
I've seen this band in several states from the beginning till their last show when they destroyed their equipment. They were one of my favorite band in the 80's. I still love their music just as much as when I first heard them. George Lynch is one of the very best soloist of all time. Thanks for all the good times Dokken and I'm still Rokken.
80s chicks were the best...NO OTHER DECADE can possibly compare or music...never to be replaced or repeated...amazing solo...hes half the reason I picked up a guitar when I was 13
oh my lord! memories....best ever! Seen this on MTV mid 80s in Australia. ....absolutely blown away!!!!
Perfect song. The entire song is an eargasm. One of the greatest songs ever recorded. Dokken had some great songs and this was their best.
GREATEST SONG EVER!!!!!!
The vocals alone are so beautiful
1987 I'm 20 again Yahoo, my lynch killing it on the riffs 🤘🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸
Always loved Dokken.
Always will
Love your icon
Dokken still rocks
I’m still Rokken with Dokken in 2023, and I don’t plan on ever stopping!! I love all their music, but I think this is my favorite video that they made!! 🤘🏻❤️
There were so many talents back in 80's..there were so many good voices, great shredders, killer drummers..I really enjoy 80's music compare to nowadays...hope this era will rise again..
One of the greatest guitar solos n the history of rock guitar. GL was and is a monster. I love Warren....Jake E.....and Randy....but no one and I mean no one played with this sensual ferocity and fluidity. GOAT
Dokken is my favourite band there 80s songs are just fantastic
One of the best and underated guitar solos ever.
I really. wish I could go back to the 80's. the music was so intense and the video s fucken rocked
you rock
This was filmed in the famed French Quarter, at great expense to the band (Don's idea.) I love seeing my unique city, though. The curved building in the first shot is the State Supreme Court building (c. 1910). The open-air restaurant is Napoleon House, I believe, and yes, it was actually built for Napoleon, who died before he could come. The cemetery scene is at least partly in the iconic Jackson Square, with some ersatz tombstones, I think. We really have beautiful trees like the one George is playing under, though.
Was it the Napoleon house or the old Absinthe? Unless they redesigned the the Napoleon, dont remember it being open like that..cant remember
Beautiful. Btw do you know who the girl in the video was/is?
My Maw Maw plays the older version of the lady that passes out the roses. And my Mom ended up helping with makeup on set lol.
@@finksgirl Thats awesome! Does your mother know who the lady is?
@@finksgirl Does your ma know who the girl is?
I know Don thought there was too much guitar in this album......but I have always loved it because of Georges playing and solos! So friggin powerful !!!!!
I just don't see how anyone could listen to this and not think it is great. The music today just isn't as good. Just listen to all the metal bands from the seventies through the eighties.
They kick ass.
ドッケンの中で一番好きな曲です。特に、スケールアウトさせるギターソロは、ジョージリンチらしさが丸出しで素晴らしいです。
Wow! What a guitar solo
As much as I love this song and Lynch's guitar, it's Pilson's bass and Mick's drumming that add so much gravitas and underpinning to the song that makes it timeless. They call it a band for a reason.....
To this day, this remains my FAVOURITE Dokken song and video. Wish music today had this level of talent...
Love the video. Especially the girl.
The 80s were the last age of great music
no doubt about that at all
I have to agree, the 90's was not much to write home about ..as they say
@@MissAmazanda 90S WAS HIGH ART compared to the 2000a. Future my ass.
90s had some great stuff too
I don't know. The 90's had some cool hair metal bands and I am a fan of grunge too
Love Dokken! Bring back the 80's!❤
that solo..... out of this earth
This song still gives me goosebumps! Dokken was is and always will be simply amazing!
Godlike band.
I am 54,and I still am jamming in 2024" I always appreciate the music thanks u tube for it.
All the groups like Ratt and Cinderella are dumb for splitting up,you don't replace the original that made you!
Brilliant solo! George is a beast.
This song is still amazing. Haven't listened to it in years. Love how haunting it is. They just don't write music like that anymore ☹. Miss you, 80's music.
U shouldn't have treated ur lamp like a scumbag
This lead is memorizing , Lynch put the stank only he can, some guitar players hear thing different than ever1 else thank God 4 them, n the talent bestowed upon them
Don Dokken is very under-rated song writer! George's solos are perfect for every song...my fav band still!
Saw Dokken twice, that I remember. Both times in ABQ, NM. Tingley coliseum sometime in the 80's the first time. I remember George Lynch passed out on stage from the heat and Don Dokken had to play guitar for him for a bit. The second time was in the mid 90's when their career was waning a bit. Saw them in a really small place on Route 66( Central Ave.) in ABQ, NM. Rocked both times. Lynch has always been one of my guitar faves.
Dokken never had the best videos. But this one one was the acception. This was perfect for this song and time. Told a story and just fit. The sound of the guitar solo was amazing. 2022 and this song holds up.
*exception.
This is a great ballad, written by Don Dokken, he has a great voice, great guitar solo by George Lynch
Heaven sent this solo.
One of the best Dokken songs! No doubt that is George Lynch in the solo. His playing is distinctive! 🎸
One of the more forgotten songs from the late 80's. It's such a great song. George Lynch slayed so hard on this song. That echo he puts out at the beginning of the guitar solo is sick.
Every time I hear this song it takes me back to cruising in my big block Monte Carlo, rockin' with Dokken!
Lynch is still my all time favorite guitarists
me too
Absolute killer song by Dokken, definitely top 5 hair rock metal bands of the 80’s . Who can deny George Lynch was one the greatest guitarists of that era??
George murders on this track!
Robert Poole I wholeheartedly agree. I have been a huge George Lynch fan since breaking The Chains and he has always been in my top 3 personal favorites and even I have to agree; even though I am biased and think all of his soloes are amazing this one is possibly one of his most masterfully crafted. It is a mountain mover. Truly Heaven Sent.
Don Dokken murders ALSO on this track.......seems hardly nobody gives excellent vocals any credit anymore...... BUT boy most everybody is SURE to give that lead guitarist's credit.......i like George too & he is an incredible guitarist BUT so is Don an incredible vocalist !!!!!
No kidding. This is Dokken at their peak.
@@bonichols8511 Everybody murders on this whole album. This was Don, Jeff, Wild Mick, and George at their best.
The screaming demon Lynch 🎸
Outstanding guitar. My God, how did I miss you guys.
One of the best bands of the 80's. Don's voice and George's guitar were great.
Dokken has alot of great songs, tooth and nail my favorite then back for the attack, under lock and key,are my other favorites George Lynch is one of the greatest guitar players,
My favorite band in the 80's and personally I don't feel George Lynch gets enough recognition for how great of a guitar player he is.
Getting ready to listen to it on Vinyl on my vintage Pioneer PL 71. Up to 11!!!
vocals r beyond what i could ever do , evnous . dokken rules
This is my favorite solo from GL, such tasty playing with his trademark palm muting, vibrato and wicked pinch harmonics.
Dokken the band. They rock. They still are out there. Lynch! You are the best.
Awesome guitar and kick ass vocals! What a great song!
What a great solo! From the first time I heard "The Hunter", I was hooked. From that moment I knew the guitar player was special. Like everyone else I've worked on George's riffs my whole life. I love playing George's music.
Man I was 14 when this one came out. What can I say except in my opinion Dokken was in the top 3 Rock Bands to come out of the 80's 👍🤘🎤🎸🎧.
🤘Dude! I was 15yy back the. Awesome album. But before that ' under lock..' blows my mind. Still listening these Master pieces. Cheers from 51yy finn🇫🇮
Best Dokken studio album in my humble opinion. Best sounding at least for sure
Goddamn! Epic Lynch! Tasty and technical! The best of the 80's!
They sure dont make music like this anymore!!!
I know. They have to be in the rock hall of fame soon!!

Sadly, no. Not really.
Aurora Borealis no, cuz there’s no digital mixing.
