- While Gravity Falls was airing new episodes on Disney, series creator Alex Hirsch faced more than a few problems with the censors. Things he wanted to put in the show weren't allowed, so how'd he deal with it? It's time to take a closer look at some of the battles he fought!

The problem is that these censors found non issues to blow up, because it’s “job justification”. The it job relies on Alex making horrible and outrageous things that are not safe for kids, if there isn’t any they have to make it up.

Not only was the scene with the two old ladies cut, but the symbol on the Love God's necklace was changed. Also, another iconic censorship example is the scene of Dipper breaking Dippy Fresh's neck that Alex tweeted about.

Quangamer ShyGuyyz I don’t know, Cartoon Network has been doing a decent job at treating their shows well. Keep in mind that Cartoon Network likes shows that have continuity. Speaking of canceling shows, that would be Nickelodeon all day since they treat their cartoons poorly.
Cartoon network would allow more themes like same sex couples but stuff like violence may have to be censored. Netflix doesn't censor stuff as much allowing Alex's show to have a free imagination with no limits but I don't know if it would be as popular because there are a lot of underrated cartoon shows on Netflix. I don't really know how Nickelodeon would treat this show. For a show that only has 40 episodes disney did a good job at making this show known. Disney censors alot of stuff so other countrys can enjoy the show, I would love to see some same sex couples in some of their shows ( as long as their not queer baiting) but only time will tell. (Keep in mind this is my personal opinion)
Morgan Crock Cartoon Network allowed some violence past in Adventure Time and some of Steven Universe so maybe Gravity Falls would’ve made it.
I think that the LGBT+ stuff wouldn’t be censored if anyone *BUT* Disney was in charge honestly, Cartoon Network has been really accepting of it since way before Steven Universe, for example Bubble Gum Princess and Marcilene in Adventure Time

Same my family recorded the first episode on our DVR and watched it together. I was only 8 at the time 😭 I'm proud to have taken this animated journey and to be part of this fandom.
To be fair with that Target incident, Target is known for frivolous lawsuits and it's actually decently possible that they would have gone after Disney.
If a red and white target board appears on Gravity falls and then Target sues Diseny then that will be one of the dumbest things I heard.

I still remember when they wouldn’t let characters in GF play Spin the Bottle for whatever reason, yet in Wander Over Yonder, in The Birthday episode, they had an entire gag centered on it.
This is so ironic, considering that I was watching The Simpsons Movie on Disney+ last night and the Bart Skateboarding Scene was completely uncensored as well as the Jackson Pollack reference in Guardians Of The Galaxy
I remember that scene with Bart Simpson's @#$%^ was exposed as a kid and I wasn't bothered by that. It gives me some questions why Fox managed to get away with that.
I heard that Disney+ didn't cut out any nudity scenes in The Simpsons.
I think they just didn't think about the censor in Gravity Falls, all they did was using the international version of the Gravity Falls episodes which were already censored. When Gravity Falls aired in Germany we already had the Fez symbol removed and that was in 2013. But I'm glad they now put the old version with the Fez symbol on Disney+ ^^

One of my favorite censors that I’m sad didn’t make it into the video was in the last weirdmageddon episode where bill chases them. He was originally supposed to say “I have some children to kill” and Disney didn’t like that so alex being alex, changed it to “I have some children I need to turn into corpses” which is arguably scarier

@@user-mh9dx7nz2r It was on Cartoon Network, which was a rival to Disney, so they didn't let it air on there. Also, Clone Wars was supposed to have 8 seasons, each with 23 episodes. Instead, they released season 6 with 13 episodes and season 7 with 12 episodes. We could've had 44 more episodes of the Clone Wars, but, of course, the evil mouse destroyed it all. I honestly think the censors at Disney just have a list at hand of things they should censor. Then go over the list for each episode, put a red flag at each point that matches the list and call it a day. Otherwise they wouldn't focus this much on minor things, leave other major things in and not have a real opinion of themselves when asked why they would censor certain parts

Hold the phone. Mabel may not have been perfect, but she was a good person who struggled with her emotions and did her best. When she was selfish, she would realize it and apologize and/or help move forward from the incident! I really think Dipper and Mabel are decently balanced when it comes to flaws.

Think about this, she was basically willing to let the entire town of gravity falls be statues forever, and release bill into the world if stanford cracked., just because she wanted dipper for support when they go to highschool. Remember, dipper couldnt save the world without mabel, and just because she was thinking about herself, she COULD have endangered the entire world. If dipper really wanted to be partners with mabel, its impossible because mabel doesnt want him to, and mabel ALWAYS wins. there are tons and tons of other times, just watch the episodes again and this time, look at the big picture.
James8221 it’s almost like I’ve seen the show over a dozen times and still disagree… Mabel is a child, just like Dipper. She’s growing and learning, and it’s unfair to claim she was simply selfish when she was scared - scared of growing up, scared of losing her partner in crime since birth, etc. She has understandable reasons to react the way she does. Dipper was being selfish, trying to take Waddles away from Mabel in order to get Wendy. Mabel didn’t “guilt trip” Dipper, she grieved and he realized that she would never recover. She didn’t stand there banging her head against the pole thinking, “If I spend decades of my life doing this, then my brother will change his mind!” Dipper was absolutely in the wrong there for trying to use his sister and take away Waddles just to best Robbie for Wendy’s attention. And what sibling doesn’t half-jokingly claim they’ve got blackmail on their sibling?? You don’t have any unflattering photos of your siblings that you keep to tease them with once in a blue moon??? And Mermando needed help, and yes Dipper did give up his job to help him, but it would have been insanely selfish of Dipper to choose his job over helping Mermando. All of these arguments you’ve made really tell me two things: you’re not giving Mabel the same benefit of the doubt you’re giving Dipper, and you’re assuming their interactions aren’t normal sibling behavior.

I love that Alex Hirsch really doesn’t take their shit. He’s not afraid to be critical of them. If only more people were like that. Disney shouldn’t get to escape accountability just because they’re Disney. Disney brass can be real assholes about shit and I’m glad there’s at least one creator who is ready to assert that they don’t own him and that they’re decisions aren’t always as squeaky clean as they pretend to be.

Did you know squidward is an Octopus? His name is squid ward! How is this possible! Is he adopted?
Squidward calls himself an octopus in a few episodes.
At one point, Squidward was originally going to be called 'Octoward' to match his octopus design. But the staff felt that the latter name didn't roll off the tongue well, so that's why he's named Squidward instead.
Also another name was going to be “Octoboy” but it wasn’t as funny as Squidward.

I noticed something in the the storyboard for the love god scene, in the storyboard the love god has the intersex icon as a necklace while the final version has the male and female hearts interlocked. Good ol Disney

If I’m correct, I can’t remember which episode it was, but there was a cut scene where Dippy Fresh says “Your hat is on backwards” and turns Dipper’s hat around, which Dipper replies with “YOUR HEAD IS ON BACKWARDS!” and breaks Dippy’s neck, killing him instantly.

This might sound strange, but I think the fact that Disney was constantly looking over and censoring things made Alex get more creative and, subsequently, better. When I looked up what "Not S+P approved" I laughed harder than I had in a while. Makes you think outside the box.
