I'm right there with you on that. There sound was very unique. I recall as a kid, I would feel so happy when Indian lake, hair, or Flower girl would come on the radio.
A brilliant group. I have huge respect for their harmonies. Especially in the times of no auto tune, and studios only had eight tracks. They were the real deal. We saw them at Atlantic City when I was a kid, and the crowd was like Beatlemania. Love love love the Cowsills .
Feb. 1971. A clean, strait, up-beat rock-and-roll music VIDEO, performed by a family, good enough for children (heck they're hardly older than children themselves). Sober. Healthy. Radiant, even. What else could you possibly want?
I grew up in the 60s and 70s. There was so much good music during that time. This is a gem. Billy was not in the band for this performance. Paul's handling lead vocals. And Susan up there just dancing her heart out. So much talent.
Too bad this band was so hemmed in. Despite it all they still shine. Nice to see Mom sat this one out. Susan, at this point is still a mascot, but give her time, she'll come into her own. The boys drove this thing.
+BettinaBalser There music is very rare to find besides Greatest Hits Compilations, a lot of their best stuff is hard to find on CD, or Digital Downloads, its unfortunate
Hello, I'm 51 years old.I'm a professional songwriter/producer.I spent the first half of my career as a jobbing player which took me all over the world. I grew up hearing the name "The Cowsills"Yet I never knew who they were nor could I identify them with any specific song. I did however watch The Partridge family.I knew they were a fake band but i liked the show anyhow. Many years later I discovered that the TV show was based/stolen from this admittedly White bread family band.I can't truthfully say I like this or think it's good but I truly respect what they accomplished. They were a real band unlike much of today's pop and they did have some vocal talent.
Did MGM records release this as a single...it's pretty good. I was on the air in 1971 radio station in Connecticut...should of been..could of been a hit...
Susan claims she didn't learn guitar until she was 30. Also, there is footage of both Barry and Paul playing bass in the Playboy After Dark episode at this point. So, while Susan did play bass in one performance, I doubt she was being schooled at being the sole bassist as both Barry and Paul could play bass.

Isn't that Bill & Bob on guitars? Barry played bass & I'm not seeing a bass player. Bud kicked Bill out in 1970 (I think) & if this video was from '71 then I don't know how Bill could've been in it, unless the video was made before Bill was out & released afterwards . . . Idk? Bill's term for lip-synching videos was 'pre-records,' whereby they (pre) recorded the audio then 'lip-synched' live to the audio playback.
@@usmc-veteran73-77 It appears to me the 1971 date was when it aired on the Barbara McNair show. I'm guessing the video was recorded a significant time prior to that, b/c that looks like Bill on the left playing the hollow body Gretsch, but Daddy Dearest Bud ousted Bill sometime in 1970. I may be wrong, but that looks like Bob on the right playing the Rickenbacker, Paul on keyboards & John on drums. Barry was the bassist & I don't see a bass player in this one.
This was bubblegum music people. Susan was not even a teen yet. She danced this same way all they way back to the first Rain ... video. I think it is a well known fact that the last thing on Bud's mind was spending his money on dancing lessons for Susan.
@@orbitsun Yes, but that appears to me to be Bill on the left playing the hollow body Gretsch . . ? Bill was out in 1970 & the date on this says Feb '71, so I'm guessing it was taped before the date it was aired.
I loved the Cowsills but this one is creepy, also it’s a lineup that existed only after their decline - Bill gone, Paul didn’t have the magic of Bill or Barry or Bob, Susan was great but her dancing in the background alone was creepy.
The older I get the more I enjoy the Cowsills. That's a lot coming from an old Zeppelin and Hendrix fan.
I'm right there with you on that. There sound was very unique. I recall as a kid, I would feel so happy when Indian lake, hair, or Flower girl would come on the radio.
@@tomjones2348 they had so great songs. My favorite would be "Hair"
One of the lesser-known gems. Really shines the spotlight on Paul. The song aged surprisingly well.
How the hell can they not be in the rock hall of fame? They were and still are better than a lot of the acts already in.
Based on pure talent they should be.
I agree
they should be i vote for them
I do too. I would vote for them!!@@rhondacannon7447

They had the spotlight on Susan, but they didn't show her enough. We need more Susan!!! Love you Susan.
Barry was so dam cute. It's really sad that we lost him. RIP Barry. Your legacy lives on.

Not sober. Bill died of heroin, Barry died drunk in Katrina.
I love this song, Susan really had some moves dancing :-)
Love this song featuring Paul singing lead. He and Susan were always my favs. And this showcases them both. Well done!
Paul and Susan were the last to join.
Great song from an immensely underrated band. The Cowsills were a successful and INFLUENTIAL act.
Just another gem by this talented family. Oh, yeah...Susan rocks!
I've never heard of this song before. I'm glad that it was in stereo.
I've always liked watching Susan dance.
This was on an album called "IIxII".The title song was written by Billy under a 'pen name'.
My favorite song by The Cowsills🙂

Susan could really dance. And poor Barry's gone too.
By this time i think Billy had already gotten fired from the band by his dad. I might be wrong.

It’s Paul on lead vocal.
you go flower girl!
Paul Cowsill is so darn cute . ❤️ 💕 💗 you. Love the Cowsills

I love this song and that girl can dance!
Have you seen the video of her dancing, during their performance on the Playboy After Dark show? Make sure you check it out if you haven't seen it. 😊
A GREAT band! The sixties wouldn't have been the same without them.
First time I have heard this song . Great song . ✌️

Great rock song and video, by a very underrated band. They were so talented, so well rehearsed.

Susan Cowsill at her best I think. She rarely danced then or now...but she should haved. Awfully cute footage.
I really like this song.
Paul does a great job on the lead vocal. I think Susan dances a combination of the frug and the jerk.
That Cowsill bunch did better than most. With a few production $$ this squabble would be a hit on Netflix!

I've seen stills of John on stage playing bass as well. He's referred to bass as his "4th instrument" (drums/piano/guitar/bass).
