So glad you mentioned AK47 , he was a beast of a player! And very very underrated passer, if he focused on that he would average 10 assists per game with ease. He had amazing vision!
Raef Lafrentz would be a good backup power forward in today's game. A rim protector who can stretch the floor is something every team would want. Plus, all he would have to do on offense is stand on the perimeter and set screens for the ball handler.
Good selections. I would also include Shawn Marion (versatile player who would be able to play small-ball five) , Antawn Jamison (more threes, even stronger offensively), Reggie Miller (shoot threes at Stephen Curry frequency), Mehmet Okur (stretch five), and Tayshun Prince (length for unlimited defensive potential).

I’ve got some worries about AI in the modern league actually. Like PG’s can be anywhere from 6’4 to 6’9 (if you include Ben Simmons and LeBron) and they’re like freaky athletic. AI is pretty athletic too, but he’s six foot barely (probably really like 5’10 or something) and sure we can assume he came up in an era where he learned to be a more efficient 3 point shooter, but getting to the rim was his bread and butter and undersized slashing PG’s just are really not the wave in today’s NBA. This was a fun video with some interesting takes, for a premise that has a TON of "obvious" options of guys like Reggie Miller, Steve Kerr, Ray Allen, as well as ones like T-Mac and Gilbert Arenas.
based on footage and player interviews from bill Russells time of play he was jokic on offense rudy on defense with jimmy butlers maniacal drive to win and Haslems coaching/leadership
i love the Bill Russell love. Also, on the Iverson note, just...any of the top line scoring guards from the 2000s would benefit in the modern league. Tracy McGrady would benefit from the advanced health protocals...but also...spacing. He'd be so much better than he was, and he would have developed his 3 point game much more than he did. Michael Redd and Gilbert Arenas are two other dudes who were great shooters I could see being so mcuh better with spacing. They also struggled with injuries as mentioned for McGrady. Finally, of course if you go all time greats : Kobe and MJ would both also benefit from playing today [i think you already did a video on MJ, but just saying].
Love the video bro.👍🏾. Russell was awesome but what about Ben Wallace ? He did lock down Shaq in the finals. Odom was nice however his athletics can’t touch Simmons. Keep the videos coming 🔥🔥
i think Rusty Buckets should add to the list shawn marion, cuz he was a versatile defender and in his prime a pretty good three point shooter,, in a system like the houston rockets he could probably even slide to the 4 or even the 5 just becouse of his versatility
I think Lamar Odom was like basically the basketball gods trying to create Magic 2.0, but failing. Instead, they kind of created the bridge between Magic and Lebron. Lamar is basically the prototype version of Lebron. Like Lamar is a VERY GOOD player, but he was missing a few things that kept him from being great, a lot of which was between the ears (mentality, bbiq, heart, work ethic etc.). Lebron ended up being slightly shorter, but built stronger and more athletic. They also fixed the bbiq problems with a patch update haha.
in response to 5:00 to magic 's best three-point year in 1988 was better than every Jordan year aside when they moved the line back to 22 feet. magic shot 91 percent from the line one year, magic didn't like to shot but I believe he had the ability to shoot.
This is a beautiful video that I have always thought about certain players including Bill Russell and it’s amazing for how good Russell would be in today’s league 💯 even if he was 50 years ago
Almost any great all around perimeter play would benefit in today’s game Jordan Dominique Pippen Grant Hill Penny Wade Kobe Reggie Miller Clyde Drexler James Worthy John Havlicek The list goes on
Early 2000's T-Mac. In today's era and with his length and skills he'd finally be able to achieve his dream of really playing pro basketball with his eyes closed instead of looking like he's asleep all the time.
Gimme Larry Bird today. Top 3 shooter of all time no question. A sharpshooter playing in an era where you could hand check. People say he isn't athletic enough to play today, but then underestimate his athleticism. He was no Lebron James athletically, or even Jimmy Butler, but Bird was 6'10. He wasn't the fastest, but he was quick and had very good anticipation. He would have probably played PF today, and could've played PF too then if the celtics didn't have McHale and Parish. Bird's role would have been sort of like Jokic, but more shooting rather than low post scoring.
Bird in todays league would be a 4 man & would be like Luka minus the step back 3 plus a post game, better midrange game, 3-4 inch height advantage, better defense, & a higher basketball IQ.
I don’t get the shooting argument for Odom. He grew up in a time where a good mid range jumper was key. He was inconsistent and inefficient from 10fr to the 3P line most of the time he was shooting less 40% from that range. So I’m not sure he would actually develop a real 3 point shot.
Finally finally finally someone from this generation gave bill some love! Thank you rusty I’ve been saying for 10 yrs that Russell would dominate in this nba greatness is greatness yes he played on an amazing team but every great team has an in dispensable man and Russell was that! Thank you for not saying the tired ass “he played with slow white guys he’s not that good” bullshit!
Magics ball handling was good on the fast break, but in the half court he would have his back to his defender outside the 3 point line, which is unacceptable in todays NBA
Mahmoud Adbul-Rauf would be a superstar in today’s NBA. The guy had Steph Curry range and ability off the dribble but was held back because of how the game was played in the 90s + religious beliefs.
@@anthonyfuscellaro233 him and rest of Nuggets were first 8th seed to upset a 1 seed. Also that Nuggets team was almost first team to come back from 0-3 to take Utah to game 7 that same year after upsetting Seattle.
Larry Bird Chris Webber T-Mac Arvydas Sabonis Pete Maravich Isiah Thomas Any elite three-point shooters in the 80s and 90s (ex. Glen Rice, Reggie Miller) Former players that would be dominant today!
Arvydas Sabonis would definitely benefit from the improved health care compared to what he had back in the 80s in the USSR and what he had in the USA in the 90s. Good lord the man qualified for disability status in the state of Oregon due to his accumulated injuries.
Magic was a good shooter even back in the day though, his career percentages were held down by 'I only shoot 3s at the end of a quarter' shots. When people started actually shooting 3's in the 90s, he was like a 35+% 3P shooter.

This was a fun video with some interesting takes, for a premise that has a TON of "obvious" options of guys like Reggie Miller, Steve Kerr, Ray Allen, as well as ones like T-Mac and Gilbert Arenas.
liked and subscribed good stuff man
Kyrie is a modern day Iverson
along with Russ's fearlessness
I'd say Russ is most similar to AI.
Brooo, I always thought you had at least 500k subs, your content quality is on par with some 1 mil+ channels. Sub!
based on footage and player interviews from bill Russells time of play he was jokic on offense rudy on defense with jimmy butlers maniacal drive to win and Haslems coaching/leadership
When is the next episode of the hoopscast coming out that pods mad funny
i love the Bill Russell love.
Imagine Wilt with spacing
Love the video bro.👍🏾. Russell was awesome but what about Ben Wallace ? He did lock down Shaq in the finals. Odom was nice however his athletics can’t touch Simmons. Keep the videos coming 🔥🔥
Pistol Pete, Larry Bird, AI, and Steve Nash come to mind
i think Rusty Buckets should add to the list shawn marion, cuz he was a versatile defender and in his prime a pretty good three point shooter,, in a system like the houston rockets he could probably even slide to the 4 or even the 5 just becouse of his versatility
Old school players... Nate Archibald, Dominique, Hakeem, Julius Erving and Connie Hawkins
Manu, Dirk, Peja, Reggie, Ray-Ray would have been great today as well.
In today’s league Odom>Draymond change my mind
nah the defense is just all time great from draymond, meanwhile i wouldnt call Odom's offense all time great lvl
@@kyrito11 yeah I wrote this a while ago you’re right, Draymond is underrated
@@lucaz3707 odom is very underrated too
My picks would Penny Hardaway, Mahmoud Abdul-Raouf, Shawn Kemp, Steph Marbury
Haven’t watched the video yet, but if this nigga says MJ imma lose my shit 🤦🏽♂️😂
I think Bill Russell would be today's Tim Duncan, accolades wise and playstyle wise
you should put these guys through a career simulation in 2k like you did in the past
This is a beautiful video that I have always thought about certain players including Bill Russell and it’s amazing for how good Russell would be in today’s league 💯 even if he was 50 years ago
Can you make a video on why it seems like pure pointguards like Steve Nash, CP3, John Stockton, ect. Have trouble winning rings?
Bill Russell is my goat
I genuinely believe if he was in today's nba he would be so incredibly lockdown that players would be afraid to cut inside
I think the arguement can be made for Jordan, Kareem, Magic, or Bill Russel to be the GOAT.
The general consensus is Jordan is the GOAT but I have no issue at all with someone having Jordan, Kareem, Magic, or Russel as their GOAT.
Almost any great all around perimeter play would benefit in today’s game
Jordan
Dominique
Pippen
Grant Hill
Penny
Wade
Kobe
Reggie Miller
Clyde Drexler
James Worthy
John Havlicek
The list goes on
Early 2000's T-Mac.
Prayers to Kat and his family🙏 may God bless you guys.
Dennis Rodman's rebounding in 2020
do this for players today who would be great in the past and stars in past era who couldn't play today
Andre Kiralinko needs to be on this list
Pete maravich ,jerry west , Bird, Wilt these guys would dominate easily
So Bill Russell would basically be Bam Adebayo if Bam was playing on a lower difficulty
Ben Gordon would be amazing in todays league!
I cannot believe I’m actually agreeing with you on the Russell thing. He’d be a better 5 in this era than in any other era besides his own.
You can do a rebuild with this yk, like put these players in the modern NBA in 2k
69k is coming soon rusty!
Magic’s ball handling was actually really good
Magics ball handling was good on the fast break, but in the half court he would have his back to his defender outside the 3 point line, which is unacceptable in todays NBA
Mahmoud Adbul-Rauf would be a superstar in today’s NBA. The guy had Steph Curry range and ability off the dribble but was held back because of how the game was played in the 90s + religious beliefs.
Chris Jackson / Abdul Rauf was a sniper back then.
GABRIELA ACEVEDO if he had the freedom to let it fly like in today’s NBA he would have averaged 25+ per game
@@anthonyfuscellaro233 him and rest of Nuggets were first 8th seed to upset a 1 seed. Also that Nuggets team was almost first team to come back from 0-3 to take Utah to game 7 that same year after upsetting Seattle.
I like the way this guy talks, lets make him more popular
Chronicles of Judah compares Bill Russell as a cross between Kevin Garnett and Dennis Rodman defensively.
Larry Bird
Chris Webber
T-Mac
Arvydas Sabonis
Pete Maravich
Isiah Thomas
Any elite three-point shooters in the 80s and 90s (ex. Glen Rice, Reggie Miller)
Former players that would be dominant today!
Will Webber magic had one good three point shooting year which was in 89 or 90 season
“AKA AK47”
