- Lofi Synthwave featuring Waldorf Blofeld for leads, Roland JX-08 for strings, Moog Minitaur for bass, and Korg Volca Sample for drums. A fun mix of digital, virtual analog, actual analog, and sampler. Talk about ticking all the boxes! I really wanted to record this one to my cassette four track, but after getting everything set up I thought it was broken. It turns out that after 20 years in storage I just forgot how monitoring works on it! Now that I know it works, look for some recordings to tape in the future, when it fits the genre. Here I used Sketch Cassette II from Aberrant DSP for lofi effects, plus Magic Switch from Baby Audio for chorus and width. That's become one of my favorite plugins for enhancing mono synth recordings!
I wrote this one with my Maschine Mikro MK3 and then exported midi to my DAW for final sequencing. Experimenting with different writing workflows has been so much fun!
Gear used in this video:
Waldorf Blofeld
Roland JX-08
Moog Minitaur
Korg Volca Sample 2
CME Thru5 MIDI Splitter
Maschine Mikro MK3 (for writing)

groovy as,
Great variation and interesting sounds from such a simple setup. Nice balance too.
Thanks so much! I think I'll do some more in this style soon.
Ah yes, another great one that brings me to 1980s. 😎✨
Love the way the Minitaur sits in this mix! Great vintage sound all around, thanks!
Thank you!
I wanted to record this to tape but I thought the record head was broken on my Tascam 414. It turns out I just forgot how monitoring works on it over the last twenty years! I've now confirmed that recording works on all four tracks. I'm bummed I didn't get to record this video to tape, but I'll definitely use it for a track in the future!
so glad i bought my dfam mother and miniyaur and mavis
Sounds like quite a collection! I've been so thrilled with the Minitaur. It's such a simple architecture but it sounds really, really good!
Super nice and professionell , I really enjoy this sound❤
Thanks, Christoph!
80s, here we come! 😅❤
This one was so much fun to make! I think I'll do more 80s-styled stuff in the near future.
Great set up and session buddy!

Sweet!
Thanks, Dan! I appreciate all your support, my old friend! 🖤
Nice !
Thank you!
if you have a Blofeld with 16CH multitimbral why do you use a Roland to play pads? :)
Good question! Originally I planned to do everything but the bass and drums on the Blofeld. But its 25 voices are shared across all patches in a multi-patch setup, and it's one voice per oscillator so the voices don't stretch quite as far as you'd expect. If you design a patch with three oscillators and you play a three note chord, that's nine voices. If you add three voice unison to all three oscillators, it's now using 27 voices and you start getting note stealing. I didn't go quite that far, but my patches here used quite a few voices and I found that when the pads came in I was getting note decays cut off in the lead part. I could work around that with fewer oscillators, less unison, reverb instead of decay for the note tails, or other tricks. But I have the JX-08 and it sounds good, so I figured I'd use that!
clear, thanks!@@scottnelle
