@@JimmyNuisance I've noticed that a lot of the gaming community are scared of change. They want to play the same, familiar games over and over until the heat death of the universe. You show them a new piece of hardware that is mostly only capable to playing styles of games that have never existed before, and they curl up into the foetal position and start rocking back and fourth.

    • @JimmyNuisance

@@fireaza Yeah, same here. I've been playing games since the early 80s, and something happened around 2008-2010.. Once Uncharted came out, an enormous amount of 3rd person action games kinda started going down the exact same path.. By 2013 all the action games played either like Uncharted or similarly to the quick-time event driven Assassin's Creed/Arkham.. That kept going for a long while... And people seemingly never grew bored even though those games kinda play themselves..
During that same era, the FPS game was pretty much perfected with Call of Duty MW.. Then we got CoD MW clones from different eras over and over and over again forever.. On top of the yearly CoD games that all play the same..
Since 2016 it's just gone straight to hell. Every game is exactly the same copy of something else. Soulslikes are now so plentiful that you could pretty much just stick to that one genre.. They all play pretty much the same..
Gaming used to be HELLA DIVERSE in terms of genres and new innovations. Gaming has never been this stale before. Indies are literally totally alone in making innovations in games.
Didn't use to be like this.. Capitalistic greed ruined large games. There's too much money in gaming right now for this to go any other way than the movie business, just puking out clones over and over and over.

Quake 1 2 and ESPECIALLY 3 are amazing on the quest. The railgun shots I can hit in Quake 3 is astounding. Some weapons are super OP in VR while pretty hard to use on a screen, such as the plasma blaster thingie and the lightning guns. In VR they're so easy to aim, you just point at the thing. With a mouse they're unwieldy.
I really hope that more devs realize that the old classics work in VR for those of us who have VR legs. For the vast majority it's gonna take a week or so, and then you can play stuff like Quake and Doom and all that good stuff.

Sounds like the actual talents at Ubisoft got to stretch their legs with this project. - It's usually when a Ubisoft-studio gets to do a more unusual and quirky project, LIKE say the modern 2D Rayman-games, or the "Rabbids" stuff, the "South Park" games, that "Gods & Monsters" game, or "Riders Republic", or even the more spin-off type "Far Cry" stuff like "Blood Dragon" and "Primal", that they shine as they get to show what they can do. - This is why I still root for Ubisoft. I mean, sure, some of their big mainline games are fine, I played the crap out of "AC: Valhalla" or whatever. But the Ubisoft-execs should have more faith in the more unusual stuff and really push THAT more. Like it's sad how the "Gods & Monsters" game didn't get a sequel, or there hasn't been another 2D artsy "Rayman"-game... Things like that. - But at least... this "AC: Nexus" game seems to be a bit like their "Alyx", in that at least they're trying something different and genuine, even IF it had to be attached to one of their big "brands" to sell it. As long as it's genuinely fresh and good.

Nice to have my impulse decision to 'upgrade' from my original HTC Vive to a Quest 3, reaffirmed. I got my Q3 yesterday and I'm super impressed by the clarity and freedom of wireless. I'm currently looking into streaming my Steam VR-based games to the Quest via my router's 5G, but haven't yet got it working. I can use Air-Link successfully and see the Windows Desktop, browse my Steam Library (Very clear), but when for example, I launch 'The Rose & I' demo, it loads into my Quest, but then I guess, the differences in hardware kicks in. I can't seem, as the app suggests, to successfully 'Stare at Start, or press Select to begin'. 🤔

Kinda seems to me like "Assassin's Creed" turned into "Thief" all of a sudden, in a good way! - Also, this is why, to me, "AC" does indeed make more sense in first-person, at least for the stealth-stuff, and I'd argue that something like "Mirror's Edge", as much as people wouldn't want to hear this, would make more sense in third-person. - Don't get me wrong, when the first game of that came out, I was totally into anything first-person, and I loved that it was a freerunning/parkour game they did in first-person. But in practice, it's just such an obscured view that you often can't see what you're actually doing, especially in tighter spaces. - OK, maybe it would benefit from VR in a way, I've never had the opportunity to try one of those early mods. But if "ME" just had Faith in front of you like "AC", I think that would be a good way for a next game (if ever). It may seem like it would make it unoriginal, but I genuinely think it could be awesome (AND useful) to SEE your character do the parkour, a la "AC", and be in more control and also appreciate it more, probably even expand on the abilities even more. I imagine it would also be a bit like "Prince of Persia", sans the magical powers of course. - Then again, if they'd make a VR-title out of it, just like "AC: Nexus" here, that might be a very good way to bring it back as well. - But anyway, a tangent, I know...

I was also surprised at how well the hand-tracking works on the Quest. I figured they had to be fudging it a bit by recording my real hands and putting an outline on them, but no! The in-game hands are a lot smaller than my real hands, they're 3D models, not video footage!

It literally took my breath away and gave me that wobbly feeling in my legs... it was awesome, haha. The sensation of being up high is the same as real life, for me. It's so intense and I wholeheartedly recommend any gamer and especially AC fans to experience it. Is it the best VR game with no jank in any way... haha no.. no it's not, but Ubisoft made a fantastic first run, no doubt!

PSVR2 feels so outdated with its cable and its fresnel lenses after the Quest 3. Comfort is great on PSVR2 and so is the eye tracking. But all that is worthless due to the lack of Sony's Software Support.

That is your opinion. When it comes to graphics quality it is still miles better then a Q3. The fresnel lenses were chosen to bring out the HDR, with flat lenses the image quality wouldn't be as good. Also got my cable hanging from the ceiling, the cable isn't a down side for me. Better graphics and less latency.

Quest 3 is so overrated. Pancake lens wont help much if the graphics arent near as sharp and detailed as PSVR2 that plus no OLED lenses like PSVR2. Once you try OLED thers no way you go back to LCD! Also why does it matter how clear or blurry the edges of your periphary vision are when all you will see clearly is where you look at directly anyway. We don't have pupils on the sides of our eyes lol. Quest 3 doesnt even do foveated rendering
Also add to the fact that wired headsets are way better than wireless bc you dont have any latency or image compression. Not sure why so many jumped the Quest 3 bandwagon when it's pretty mid tbh

DF in general is becoming lame, I think a lot of us got enthusiastic about hardware and software, binged a bunch of nerds telling us how things work and now we've outgrown them because John is talking like he just came out of a VR best buy demo. Has he lost all his memory of Half Life Alyx? Did he even play that? Alyx has done everything VR is doing still today which is why the platform is not grabbing anyone, a platform that has to wait in Valve time for the next experience because the rest of the industry doesn't care.
