would you say that highlander is better than the halo tv series?
Having Sean Connery, the only actual Scottish guy not playing a Scotsman in the movie about highlanders was a stroke of pure genius.
A Frenchman playing a Scotsman, pretending to be a little bit of everything.
... And a Scotsman, playing an Egyptian, pretending to be a Spaniard... and still sounding scottish.
That is a credit to Connerys charismatic screen prescence.
He never made the least effort of attempting an accent, and we still somehow, buy him in the role of whatever nationality (even as a Russian... or as Irish), simply because it was Connery.

Also I read somewhere that the explanation for Connery having a Scottish accent is because as an immortal he picked it up and stayed with it.

I love this movie, and the TV show with Duncan was lit. In the same realm as Xena and Hercules. Pure nostalgia.

Knowing that the Highlander fights with a Katana one of my favorite swords in history not only Queens score makes the movie epic the Sword fights are Legendary in Highlander the 1st movie will always be a masterpiece. I also like how Highlanders despite being immortal there is a price to pay seeing the loved ones die right before you is quite depressing.
Not to mention you ALSO CAN'T get too close to anyone normal for any considerable amount of time. And there's NEVER a family or kids for any of them for any extended period of time without being back to seeing said loved ones die. Sure more then a few immortals after at most a few centuries just DIDNT want to deal with all that anymore. An to top it all off someone like you is always trying to kill you

"battle of the immortals" pretty much sums up this whole franchise
This is still one of the all time best film concepts for me, I watched a fair amount of the series and love Duncan as much as I love Connor, the mystery of the immortals is so fascinating, I don’t like the idea of them being aliens, in my mind I feel like each culture throughout history would have at least one immortal, so the prize itself ends up being that you have all the knowledge of each culture and race that has ever existed to then be the bridge between all people and ‘true connection with humanity’ there’s already elements of that throughout the series in particular, one of my favourites being an African American immortal who discovered his immortality after being lynched, he used his immortality to free other slaves and would sacrifice himself over and over to save others, which is a great contrast to most immortals who live selfishly. I just hope the remake/reboot doesn’t blow it
I like the specifics in the story of immortals..almost like it has been based off a real premise
I recently rewatched the entire series on Prime, after not having watched it since the series ended in 1998. I've seen all the movies multiple times over, (except The Source, couldn't sit through that one again... 🤮) watched the original when I was 10 or so... One of those random weekend movie rentals with my dad, you know. Anyway, I'm a pretty big fan of the whole franchise, the concept, all of it... And I would honestly say that I actually prefer Duncan over Connor. Not that I dislike Connor by any means, just I like Duncan more. But I own the official replica Ramirez/Connor katana... My mom bought it for Christmas when I was 18 or 19.

My guilty pleasure movie. I never grow tired of it. The Kurgan is my second favorite movie villain. And then a score from the best band ever. It's perfect! I've got McCloud's broadsword hanging on my wall.
This was my mother's favorite movie growing up. I remember it quite fondly. As always awesome video.

I knew it was only a matter of time before you’d cover this film. I remember when my dad showed it to my brother and me. “There can be only ONE!!” Such an iconic line, and always brings me back to this movie
In the hands of a competent director, a remake of Highlander would be AMAZING
Henry cavil is already cast as Connor I’m sure for the reboot could be wrong but I vividly remember it being announced with the John wick director
I love Highlander, but the continuity is already screwed up enough. We don't need a reboot mucking things up even more.
No one can recapture that camp magic....the reason Sean and Chris got had such chemistry was cause they were on the piss every night after filming

Endgame wasn’t to bad. Granted like every other part of the franchise it retconned allot that came before. This series really didn’t care about cannon at all each entry almost rebooted the whole thing
The Kurgan is campy and weird in the last half of the movie but looking back I like it better because it shows just how degraded his mental state got over the centuries.
This was the first content I enjoyed with my mom, we both liked a lot to watch the movies and TV show, so highlander has a special place in my heart just for that reason

I agree it has it's flaws and they were limited for the time but the acting, score, and everything else about the movie is just so groundbreaking. The concept is so original and I plan on sharing it with my 11 year old soon. Did you enjoy the show with Adrian Paul FilmComicsExplained?

I'm from the UK. The first time I saw this movie I was in the waiting room for laser quest. Watched about half of it on a giant parallelogram screen in a neon sign 80s futuristic looking room. I think I was about 9. Left a powerful impression on me despite lamberts Nicholas cage style "anti-acting"

I actually liked the TV show as well, have a soft any old movie or TV show especially shows with unchanging beings wondering an ever changing world and their wisdom, I recommend the anime Vivy: Fluorite Eye's song

I bought the Queen picture cover 45 record when I was a kid and even made a Kurgen bear skull helmet that Clancy Brown wore in there 1st meeting in my early 20's as a Halloween costume! I still have the record to this day as Queens soundtrack was brilliantly matched to this film!! This is one of my favorite movies from my early teens and still watch it every so often on video tape! THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!😲

Fun fact: Sean connerys Voice Over at the beginning explaining things was done after the movie was made but before it was released. He did it over the phone in his bathroom that reverb you here that makes it sound so epic is just his big ass bathroom lol

I remember I saw this the same day as a nightmare on elm Street. I also remember being terrified by Clancy and not Freddy.

I love this film. A bit of a shame about some of the sequels and TV series. I still enjoyed the third one (no more alien nonsense!). It is hard to come up with a sequel when you've already fought to there being only one in the first film. I was waiting for a comment about the fantastic soundtrack.
Did you know that the guy that plays the Kurgan, Clancy Brown, is also an SCA light fighter? SCA - Society for Creative Anachronism, are a group of medieval recreationists. In the SCA, he is a light fighter, which are fighters which use rapiers, carefully blunted, to fight, not unlike what people see in fencing, but often far rougher than what you'd see in fencing. He really is very skilled at it, too.

These films have to be the most retconned series ever each seems to completely retcon the last. This movie ends with the supposed final immortals fighting then the next rejoins him and retcons the immortals origins and the final battle wasn’t the final. Then the next ignores all the stuff set up in the second and expands the number of immortals left ignoring the ending of the first. Then the series basically rebooted everything only for its sequel movie to incorporate the movie’s characters back into the shows plot. Crazy…
In my own head-canon, when Connor disarms Ramirez and sends his katana over the cliff, I imagine this:
*Ramirez, watches his sword fall*:"Well done Macleod. Now, go get my sword."
Connor:"Wait what?"
*Ramirez kicks him over the edge.*

My friend introduced me to this movie and after watching all the movies the TV series and the animated was created because of how much of a cult classic this was that I could not stop screaming there can be only one whenever I played like a specific game that requires swords and dueling one on one lol
