I was underbiked, then I was overbiked, now I have one of each to balance each other out. #trailjustice ⚖️
Man n+1 is real.. I’m at 6 but I’m dumping 2 this year so I’ll be down to 4. Dh trophy bike cause sentimental stuff, enduro bike, enduro bike with motor, fatty…
I have too many bikes so yeah I'm overbiked
I appreciate @Herny-Quinney and find that Pinkbike is far better since he joined the team.
I find it really interesting that certain people seem to spend an inordinate amount of time badmouthing him on any video, podcast, or article he's a part of. Did he make fun of your ebike? Linkage fork? Flatland riding? Mediocre GoPro footage? Something else bike related that you've chosen to build an identity around?
Maybe, just maybe, he is, as they say in his homeland, taking the piss. Try not to take bike media too seriously.
Oh, and it's been great to see you back, Christina!
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Nah Henry can be very polarizing. I was annoyed by him initially but oddly enough I watch this because of him. I watch competition less now that he’s here.
Who cares what other people ride. As for yourself, ride what you want and what you like. Being comfortable on your bike is the first step in having fun on it.
The katadyn Be Free filter is the one you're looking for. A bit more than $25 but worth every penny as it has a reservoir built in!
I use it with a 3L hydrapak bladder when bikepacking. Easy to drink straight from or squeeze into a bottle so it’s more convenient than lifestraw. Also better flow rate in my experience.
Thank you! This IS the one I want for some trips this summer. Great to hear it verified by some fellow bikers.
being overbooked has saved my ass on a few occasions when I overshoot the landing as an example
I look forward to watching and reading Henry’s articles, keep them coming Henry.
i think being overbiked is depending on how tolerant your SO is on you spending money on multiple bikes i guess 😅. If only one bike is allowed you are better off with an enduro bike to ride pretty much anything compared to a 130mm bike that you will not enjoy on very difficult terrain. i live in austria and my wife would quarter me if i had to tell her that i need another 3000+ € bike because i want to ride something thats less steep😂
160/160 Stumpjumper (cascade link) or my 150mm Meta Hardtail. cover most things I can get to locally.
Hey Henry I got a diamond coated full hollow sumc chain for 25$
Beat that 🤜
I didn't say it will last. If I die because it breaks you win.
Quite probably over biked for what I regularly ride but I'd like a bit more squish for the Wharncliffe trips. I think it's a good compromise.
I’m with Christina btw. I want as much travel as I can reasonably get to the top. I rode my patrol mostly till I got an altitude powerplay then well that changed. I have a fatty for commuting and technically it will get more saddle time but hobby time will be mostly on the powerplay.
If your bike is properly set for your weight and you frequently bottom out the suspension, is that the proper bike for that terrain?
Im riding an " all mountain " bike and enjoy the techy stuff most, i seek out the alternative trails.
Keep up the good work!
Who doesn't love a good bottom out?! haha maybe a few times per ride is a bit much though. Poor bikes, we put them through hell.
I just bought a Norco Fluid FS A 4 and I'm under biked with it. I've bottomed out the rear suspension pretty hard a few times (300psi) and the trails I ride aren't as gnarly as in BC. I live in Waterloo Ontario. Pinochle Hill and the hydrocuts is all I've ridden 😅
Yowza! Sounds like we have similar opinions then haha
@@christinachappetta4542 it's definitely not in the freeride realm
Just bought the same bike! really considering a coil for it - I am a bigger rider and have read this all over the place, this just reinforces it. live on the east coast, some downhill hills around but mainly got to pedal to the fun.
@@braedonleblanc I was considering the same thing. I just didn't want to buy a bunch of springs to find the right one.
Is the linkglide chain compatible with all of Shimanos lines? Or only for the linkglide specific cassette?
I remember just a few yrs ago when motorized bikes were intended for the elderly, disabled, and injured. Now, so many able bodied 25-45 yrs old dudes act like they “need” them.
Yeti SB140 LR. Great bike that u can do anything with, my go to 👍👌
I think most people want a one quiver bike so it's better to have a bike that can handle XC, the occasional bike park and unknown gnarly natural trails. Bikes are so expensive yet so capable these days that it just makes sense to have that bike that can do it all really well. A bike like my own bike, Santa Cruz Bronson MX ,can handle just about anything and still allows the rider to have lots of fun. This means I can have that one bike for fun and one bike for transport and I can have more money for upgrading gear and the other things in life.
Well put. And Bronson 🤘
Christina!!! The bionic woman back on camera!!!❤
Bionic! Thanks, I think haha
Assuming people need to ride the same bike based solely on trail type is quite an assumption. Not all suspension is the same (even if longer). There’s also slightly older crowd where that extra suspension is actually helpful for fatigue on backs, knees, etc. So, I’m not sure why there needs to be a sweeping choice of right or wrong per se.
more cushion for the pushn.. big time yo
Congratulations… I’m sure your kid is going to be a Ripper 🍻
I know Brita filtered vodka is better than unfiltered, how's the life straw fit in here?
Isn't it just the world we live in? I've got the biggest house, I've got the biggest SUV, I've got the biggest pool, I've got the most suspension.... People are compensating for something. I'm very happy with my 160/147 trail bike.
That does sound like pretty much the best option. 147...how do they come up with these things?!?
Henry is right. most people are riding bikes with travel they dont need. Its actually keeping them from progressing because all they have to do is hang on and survive.
I almost got suckered in with an over spec bike at a greater price as a beginner enduro rider.
The advice received was to just learn how to ride first, the rest won't make much difference initially.
P.S. I got a second hand Poly/Shitsu T7 for my first gig.
Cheap but more than capable compared to my skill level for now.
The rest will follow ✌️
I am grossly over biked for my area. Shopping for a new one now.
Almost everyone on the trails is over-biked. I attribute this phenomena to the MTB reviewers who all live in squamish.
You're spot on, its completely insane.
Imagine feeling like you need to spend $14000 to ride MTB. Bike companies have lost their minds.
I will say it this way. Far too many people are overbiked and underskilled. This causes the issue where people will do things beyond their skill level thinking the bike will take care of it for them, thus causing them to get into trouble and/or crash. There are riders that are skilled enough to push an enduro or even downhill bike to it's limits, but most people that own them would be much better off on a trail or heck, even downcountry bike. I even think many riders will be just fine on a hardtail. Having a bike that doesn't "do everything for you" teaches you how to properly ride and actually become a good mountain biker. Just watch a "fails" video and you can clearly see people are doing things they shouldn't with their level of skill, and that's usually because they are on a bigger bike and don't know how to properly ride it.
I started MTB in 1992 after about 4 yrs of BMX and it took about a dozen of serious injuries to achieve some sort of talent. Yes I was bad, I'm still not good but way less bad.
I’ve never understood this logic. By this, no one but a handful of pros should be riding anything high end. No different to saying no one should have a supercar unless they are an F1 driver etc.
Most people are overbiked. When I am riding my 13kg 1300€ 130mm Hardtail I overtake the enduro riders on the uphill because of their heavy bikes and on the downhill I overtake them because of their lack of skills. My observation is that they can't ride properly and active and that's the main reason most people "need" such big bikes. Recently I even took that bike to a downhill race and got a top 10 out of more than sixty participants, I mean that's ridiculous.
Just for clarification, Enduro bikes are faster downhill, I am also (slightly) faster on my Enduro bike, there is no doubt, but 90% of the riders I observe here in my region (in the middle of the alps) are not even close to half of what their bikes are capable of.
I can tell you what it is : Not worth spending 14 Thousand dollars on.
It's a "prestige brand premium" inflated retail price bs. Next winter it's gonna be at least 45% off. My friend got a brand new $13.5k retail 2023 Enduro for $6000. He got a dealer discount and purchased the bike to a company name. That way the tax gets written off and the IRS gets f'd over, at least in My counrty.
Yeah… I got an emtb I like for $6k…no way I’m spending 14k on any 1 bike… um I’ve over 14k over all my bikes…
14k you buy 3 bikes.. 1 trail, 1 hardtail and a road bike... just saying.. and maybe a dj...
When bikes cost the same as Ducati's its a sign these companies are completely out of touch.
Better to be overbiked and be able to ride any kind of trails than being underbiked and have to skip some gnarly trails…
Moar travel moar better, squirrels are getting bigger.
$14,000 for a bike is insulting. Even if I had the money, the answer is a hard “no”
Am I the only one who can just afford a single bike? Yes I am way overbiked on my local trails but I rather be this than underbiked in the bikepark and constantly have to worry I'll brake my bike on bikepark jumps etc.
$14,000 bike LMAO. At that price, everything is tailored one of one.
I love Pinkbike and the podcast and the channel and everything but this show is awkwardly cringy bad. Like....bad. I love you all but the all the milk has been squeezed from the teet at this point. It's just a show talking about your other shows....
eBike? Gross.
Fuck ebikes
Definitely not liking this Henry guy on PB…always sounds fake, snob and a bit arrogant to me…😏
What's your old ass so bitter about? I've seen you spew on several videos now.
