- Game recorded thanks to information from @DanPellegrino486 , who listed this title as the successor to Gun-Nac, which I previously finished and enjoyed from start to finish. Thanks for the suggestion man, this gameplay is for you, hope you like it :)
Super Aleste (1992) by Compile and known also as Space Megaforce is another successful take on the vertically scrolling shmup genre, from the studio that earlier made Gun-Nac. I must admit that it was indeed an enjoyable experience. Like its predecessor from Nes, Super Aleste is a really dynamic game full of action and explosions. Sometimes it's hard to grasp what is an effect and what is a projectile heading towards our despair. But well, I guess that's just the “beauty” of these games. However, as far as the shmup genre is concerned, we must admit that the entry into the 16-bit era has made this type of games gain a lot. The difference between 8-bit and 16-bit shmups is so striking that you no longer want to go back to the older ones. At least that's how I feel. In the game we play the role of a pilot Raz, whose task is to destroy the gigantic Sphere, which one day attacked the inhabitants of the earth for no reason. He pilots a high-tech fighter jet, in which a woman, modeled on his memories, named Thi, has somehow strangely appeared. It turns out that she has super powers that improve the fighter enough to allow Raz to confront forces from beyond the solar system. Of course, my explanation is very simplified, so if you are actually interested in the whole plot outline then you need to refer to the manual. The game has really nice moving backgrounds, and can display a lot of sprites and effects at once without slowing down the animation, which makes a really good impression. There are many weapons in our arsenal as well as an area attack that sweeps everything practically all over the screen. Each weapon is useful in its own way, not like in Gun-Nac where more than half of them were almost useless. Also a big plus that the balance has been improved. But..... there is one weapon that, in my opinion, allows us to complete the game almost every time we use it systematically. And that is the Charged Gun (C.G.), which not only has quite a strong basic firepower, which can be compared to the spread gun from Contra, providing us with enough firepower that we can charge the beam of ultimate annihilation with it almost every time. Depending on how much time we charge the shot, a different form of it is fired, and the last one literally sweeps almost half the screen of enemies as well as bullets heading our way. So I didn't think long and decided to take advantage of this mechanic, and all in all I passed the game thanks to this in the third attempt. Coming back to the qualities of the game, it has really nice graphics and the music accompanying it stands out enough that in combination it creates a really successful great experience. Only the boss fights could be more demanding and better organized with two exceptions from the first and second level. I highly recommend this game to fans of the genre as well as people who don't have much experience with this type of titles, because if it convinced me as a "layman" to continue exploring the genre, then it definitely has something in it to pleasantly waste some time.
