    I wrote the cards for Morgan and Aidan. Hope you all like 'em!

      Love 'em! Great work! Morgan's pilot abilities seem to be the most dangerous compared to the rest. I'm kind of excited what stats they'll give Jamie Wolf when they create one. They once had a mock battle, and IIRC the outcome was a draw.

    I played old school battletech and that tiny increase in scale has done wonders for the quality of the models.

      Definitely. I also find them to be far more welcoming to my novice painting skills.

    Thanks for posting this. I'm new to Battletech and was wanting to see the difference between the Clan Timberwolf and the legendary mech, and I ended up learning to appreciate the new models. They're really gorgeous compared to the originals!

    Good one, thanks! A thing about 3D printed mechs though, can't compare the size (details, yes) to the recent plastic ones because you can re-print a 3D printed mech at a bigger size

    That is the 2nd Ral Partha metal Archer sculpt. 1st Ral Parta metal Archer sculpt was smaller, just like the 1st plastic Archer sculpt. 2nd sculpt replaced the 1st in the line.

    These look pretty nice ! Thanks for this video. The comparisons with the older models is quite helpful. It looks like they are consistent in scale, a pet hate of mine with the old metal models. A thirty ton light shouldn't be anywhere close in size to a hundred ton assault mech.
    Hope to see these in my local stores soon..

    I just added this box to my pledge. Already nabbed the Marauder in my random salvage but really want Widowmaker.

    • @RenegadeHPG
      @RenegadeHPG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Widowmaker is a solid sculpt, but I REALLY like the new Marauder. Other than paying crazy money for an old metal there aren't many chances to get the classic design on the table.

    This is an old review, but watching 'cause I just ordered my kit from Catalyst.
    Here is the thing... I was never much of a minis guy. When I last played BattleTech,it was OLD school... Cardboard standies from old box set.
    I had friends that were into Warhammer and really got into minis.... When minis became more prevalent in D&D in 3.0 and 3.5, I welcomed them.
    I am still yet to paint one.
    Being a BattleTech fan, I'd always enjoy looking at minis and models though.
    And that said.... Is it me? Or are the current Catalyst models about as good as plastic models get?
    Your comparisons here are reinforcing my memory... When I first saw the current minis after opening my box set a few weeks back... My thought was 'I don't remember any BT Mini with this much heft, detail, accuracy....' the quality kinda jumped out at me.
    Here is my theory; times have changed, 3d printers are common and pretty cheap. In order to make 'official' minis worth buying in this era, they HAVE to be good. You have to produce higher quality than amateur and semipro 3D prints, and keep them cheap enough that your customers are willing to pay $5 or so each in these packs. The quality and detail seem great to me (admittedly ignorant on minis), and as a customer, I feel I am getting high quality and worth the $$$. This makes Catalyst able to compete with the Etsy world and gamers with printers.
    The quality seems very good.... But then, in this changed marketplace, it NEEDS to be good.

    The Mechs are very similar to the basic ones. The Direwolf is a good sculpt with the different weapons and the jumpjets on the Timberwolf are a nice touch. But beside that, they are just differently posed. I think it's kind of a missed opportunity there....

    • @RenegadeHPG
      @RenegadeHPG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Agree. The Archer was an odd choice because there wasn't anything distinct about any of the hero versions. Same with the Marauder. I think Yen Lo Wang would have been an obvious one and is visually unique. Grinner would have been another good one as it's the only Wolfhound IIC.

    • @ShimmeringSword
      @ShimmeringSword 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yep we were kinda trapped when the bosses chose hero pilots that have zero changes made to their mechs. We didn't have time in the production rush of Wave One to make custom terrain bases or anything else that would differentiate them more.
      I'm glad we didn't give into all the crying for us to do Natasha's Warhammer instead of Daishi, would have killed off even more variety :)
      The plus side though is that aside from the Dire Wolf these make great 2nd mechs to your regular forces, a second pose without having to do any cutting.
      As for the Archer missile doors, while the variety would have been nice to close them, we didn't want to confuse any new players, or rob someone of the option if they didn't buy the regular mech. However, I did make sure they can actually close, so clipping them off with a little cleanup will give you a cool closed look. I encourage it.
      Hopefully if/when we do future hero mechs they'll be much more extravagant.

    • @RenegadeHPG
      @RenegadeHPG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Great to know about the missile doors. I'll definitely make that mod myself and be sure to share the tip with others. At the end of the day I appreciate the variety of poses, even if subtle, and am looking forward to whatever characters/variants you guys settle on for the next pack. Anything I can do to move away from a clone army on the table top is going to be a good thing in my eyes.
      I'm particularly fond of the RTT model sets for that same reason. I've definitely found myself trying out 'Mech poses in my office while putting them together in order to help figure out how to make a good natural look. It's amazing how much playing with your own natural arm/leg positioning can help keep the final product out of the uncanny valley.
      Thinking about it now...that would have been a funny candid camera moment to have caught on film!

      While Subtle the Timber Wolf is different, but doesn't "jump out" at you (there's your main hint), and the Dire Wolf is very very different.
      But yeah the Marauder/Archer were a bit frustrating. But Art team got bosses, too.
      Hard part is 99% of your Hero characters, drive bone stock mechs.

    • @RenegadeHPG
      @RenegadeHPG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, what are the options for unique hero 'Mechs? I noted Yen Lo Wang and Grinner above. You also have Prometheus and Hohiro's Dire Wolf, but nobody just wants a ton of Dire Wolves. There are some that come later in the lore, but 3025 to Clan Invasion time frame...I'm drawing a blank.
      Edit: Red Corsair's BattleMaster

    I want to see someone chop the arms off of the Widowmaker to make it resemble the CCG art! Are you gonna magnetize yours? Maybe you can make it happen ;)

    Aidans mech was actually a summoner but on tukkayid he had to use a timberwolf as his summoner was destroyed. They really should have used his summoner for this.

    • @7thBatallion
      @7thBatallion 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Timberwolf is his most famous mech though.

    • @iampoch01
      @iampoch01 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, but him and the Mad Cat had already been intertwined, not to mention that he had his TW's weapons loadout customized. It makes much more sense that he'd packed with his TW than a Summoner.

  • @boneshaman8912
    @boneshaman8912 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well you could have assembled the DW. Than just soak it in either acetone or fingernail polish remover. That would dissolve the glue.
    I just wish the IS hero mechs looked different than the non hero. Grayson Marauder coul be a 3R, the standard could be the 5D. Than again instead of Grayson that coul have used one of the Bounty Hunter's builds. Maybe the model with a gauss rifle.
    Not sure what model Kell had I it was a standard build or custom. But the other one could be a 2W build.

    What's the difference between the marauder you have in the video and one from the normal one

      The pose is slightly different and the AC/5 is a little thicker.

    The copyright fight with Topps is actually being litigated against because personal use rips from video games aren't covered by their claims, btw. I wouldn't defend them too much, at least one guy's getting disbarred over this.

    I still unbuilt box sets of mechs in metal.
    I also have built correct configuration mechs.
    Meaning The Dire Wolf Prime will look very different from Natasha Kerensky's Widowmaker version
    My Widowmaker looks far better than that plastic one you have.
    The barrels are huge on my mechs.
    And a AC20 IS a massive barrel
    Metal is better..
    I will up load everything to my Facebook.
