Her mother was amazing! The fact that she ignored the doctors and was able to raise her and push her to do things is so inspiring.

Yes, and she came close to paying a high price - as her husband was in favour of Temple being institutionalized. She later learned from a doctor friend of the family thatt her husband had tried for almost three years to collect evidence against her to have her declared mentally incompetent (the mother, NOT Temple). He could not send Temple to an instituion against her mother's will, but if she had been declared inmcompetent, her will would no longer have been legally valid and he could have done it. Luckily, the doctor friend refused to play along and even warned the mother against her husband.

    "She's an infantile schizophrenic."
    - "We generally recommend an institution"
I have autism. My neurologist diagnosed me with autism at an early childhood age. I'm 24 years old now. He's recently been suggesting I go to one too, and my toxic mother and my toxic brother have even been agreeing with his advice, but it can not and will not happen. I'm fighting back with faith in God and I will never ever give up my advantage.

I have high functioning Autism, and my parents were in doubt of me when I was diagnosed at either 3 or 4, but they had to push me to do things later in my teenage years to be part of society. I had to have a lot of discipline, but mostly self discipline. I went to college, after graduation, I worked 3 jobs for 65 hours a week before finding my fulfillment technician job at a healthcare technology company. I’m also a landlord since I moved out of their house when I was 26. Everyone on the spectrum is different and unique.

I literally had a similar conversation 8 years ago with a LMHC before my daughter was even diagnosed. She stated she felt her/our problems were a result of a lack of bonding, that I didn’t bond with her. It was a gut kicked and I knew she was wrong. My response “well I know I’ve bonded with her, but she rejects me. She doesn’t want me to hug or touch her.” The shame and stigma for parents is still alive and well

Clearly that doctor was wrong and thank goodness her mother refused the advice - I am also a person with autism ( 037 yrs old) Peoples also said what I wouldn't be able to do such as learning to read and graduating from high school with a real high school diploma ( Which I did : James Madison High school - class of 2003 ) I have also earned three college degrees including a master's degree in special education
( I would love to also earn a Ph.d someday) - and my other dreams for the future include but are not limited to being able to drive, Living independently, and being able to get married and have/start a family ( ie. having children) Someday. I would also love to be able to run for public office someday such as running for congress and /or president of our country someday and /or both someday in order to bring and give more representation to individuals with disabilities ( Especially with what some would consider developmental and/or intellectual disabilities such as autism and other types of various developmental and/or intellectual disabilities ) Someday. Temple Grandin born on the 029th of August of the year of 1947 ( Nineteen forty -seven) is a true inspiration , one of my many heroes, great example of hard work and determination, a mother who never gave up on her and true testament to the human will and spirit

Why doesnt anyone ever think to explain to the kid why its important, why does anyone assume they dont understand JUST because they cant speak or arent looking.. people are so cruel & evil to see a child & say welp better luck next time lets essentially torture this one to death "institutions" beating you to make you react acceptably while STILL noone explains why its important to show these movements that have NOTHING to do with whether or not the kid understands, ASK, guide help any autistic person to your social rules and what you want not covertly overtly ACKNOWLEDGING they dont correlate actually and only do because polite society encourages it so and non autistics have an inherent hive mind. UGH!

Autistic individuals are not infantile schizophrenic. Autism and schizophrenia are two distinct neurological conditions with different characteristics and diagnostic criteria. While both autism and schizophrenia can involve difficulties with social interaction, they are distinct conditions with different underlying causes and diagnostic criteria. It's important not to conflate the two, as each requires its own approach to diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, referring to autistic individuals as "infantile schizophrenic" is inaccurate and can perpetuate misunderstandings about both conditions. However, it is possible for someone to have both high-functioning autism (HFA) and schizophrenia, although it is relatively rare. Having both conditions simultaneously is known as comorbidity, where two or more conditions co-occur in the same individual.

You're right, but it was once believed by psychiatric professionals that autism was a form of schizophrenia. This scene takes place in 1950, and is accurate to the medical professionals of the time, though not to reality.
