    Great video, how would you compare Argus and Ackie monitors behavior wise?

    • @projectpet7828
      @projectpet7828  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well they are both very active but believe it or not I would say Argus monitors are even more active. As how their feeding response go Argus monitors are savages compared to ackies when it comes to feeding. You can always motivate them with food. Argus monitors are not really fond of getting touched/handled while ackies are mellow fellas and usually let you touch them without going mental. Yellow spotted monitors like to just be on their on without getting handled but they are not aggressive (or most of them at least)

    What are your thoughts on the green basilisk🦎? And have you ever thought about getting one? Love your channel!!

    • @projectpet7828
      @projectpet7828  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you :) Green basilisks are beautiful lizards, I always wanted to keep them but you need to provide a huge enclosure for them with a big water area. They tend to rub their nose bloody on the glass like Chinese water dragons if they don't have a large enough enclosure so you make sure you provide the big habitat they require. Other than that I'd say if you have the means/possibility to keep this amazing species, go for it! :)

    So do you advice to start handling at a very young age even though it is whipping and hissing? Since I normally wait a few months with my varanids to let them grown and gain confidence. I just got a young argus as well and I want to ask you if I should start now instead of waiting a few months.

    • @projectpet7828
      @projectpet7828  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yo! What I experienced with Argus Monitors is that they hate being touched. If you can compare a Water Monitor to a dog, an Argus is more like a really grumpy cat that is perfectly fine with your presence, not afraid but does want to do its own thing. I would advice you to just take your monitor out and let it move around you let it get used to you. When the lizard is comfortable enough you can try to put your hands in front of it trying to make it crawl onto you. One thing you should never do is to grab these guys ... they will absolutely hate your for it. Start with smaller contacts and increase the level of contact with baby steps.

    Hi your argus is super cool!
    One question can you recomend a monitor lizard that doesnt get bigger than 150cm. I really like monitors i dont want one that is small like a ackie but i dont want something to big like a asian water monitor. I have seen the roughneck monitor that i like alot but i want another option.

    • @projectpet7828
      @projectpet7828  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yo! Well You could go with a female Argus or even a female varanus cumingi. Cumingi are like asians but grow much smaller. Also I would recommend Varanus melinus, those are really gorgeous monitors that grow bigger but not that big.

    Hey 👋
    How can you put that much ackies together in an enclosure, do you need to get all of them at the same time and when they are babies?
    I’m about to get ackies but I don’t know if I should buy 2 or one and then buy the other one, I have a huge enclosure since last year and I want to have at least more than one but I don’t know if it is posible to introduce another one some time after the first one.

    • @projectpet7828
      @projectpet7828  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! The best way indeed would be raising your group of ackies together and when the time comes separate the males if you end up having multiple ones. You will see when the males start rivaling and you'll have to act fast when they do so. Females can be kept together without problems most of the time and also can be introduced to each other in adult age. I did that with my ackies and had no difficulties what so ever :)

      @@projectpet7828 Crazy to think that 3 years later I finally got my ackies. I have 3 6 month old babies. I was planning to get them 3 years ago but I'm from México and at that time there was no one breeding ackies. then 2 years ago I went to study abroad and now I came back and finally got them. I even followed the cement cave tutorial that you have. I followed your guide too. I hope I have 2 females and 1 male. if not could I separate them and then reintroduce 2 males or would it be a bad idea to have 2 males? Are yours all female or 1 male 3 females or what?

    • @projectpet7828

    • @theDragonlizzard
      @theDragonlizzard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@projectpet7828 my Tegu doesn't really like handling much either. But he tolerates it because he knows it usually means nice things. Like being taken to his feed area. Getting a warm soak. I think the same thing could apply to Argus Monitors. They seem like they could pick up on it.

    Sand is so bad to use in an enclosure. Try petibark mixed wth sphagnum moss and cocoanut husk fiber That will keep the monitor clean, no dust in the eyes and nose and ears, and will retain the humidity better to help. wit shedding.

    • @projectpet7828
      @projectpet7828  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is not an Asian monitor lad. Sand doesn't hurt them at all and the breeder (very successful) told me specifically to use sand in young age. I did and worked fine. The substrate mixture you mentioned is not for these kind of animals.
