UK Connection...one of my favorite weekly shows on all of TH-cam land. It is always the first thing I do after work on Saturdays. Thank you gentlemen for the knowledge, the stories and the humor.
I was extremely lucky to see Queen on their Crazy tour of London in 1979,they did only very small venues the gigs I was at was at Alexandra Palace in North London, probably 2,000 - 3,000 and a Dance hall in Tottenham again North London called the Mayfair which was more locally known as the Royal which capacity must have been only a few hundred , but was packed , absolutely 2 of the best gigs I ever saw , the next time I saw them was their very last gig at Knebworth, Status Quo supported , about 100,000 there !
Dude I am so truly jealous of you and people who were lucky to see them live (jealous in a good way)! Being born in a different time and place, I never had the chance to see them! And that really sucks!
@@ramram-td1jl hi my friend , it’s funny that I wanted to be born a few years earlier , never saw Bowie in his Ziggy phase and also classic bands in their pomp, ELP, Genesis, The Who, Zeppelin etc !
@@mikewest1542 Man, to get to see the Knebworth gig in person! Wow! Can't even imagine what it must've felt like!I would honestly give out every single penny I have to create a time machine that would drop me there! 😁
Not a Queen fan, but really enjoyed the chat. That's the beauty of SoT...you don't have to love all the bands/music that's being talked about, to enjoy the broadcasts. Bravo, guys...
I can't pick a favorite among the first six albums. It depends on my mood. "Day at the Races" holds the most nostaglia because the first time i saw Queen live was in support of that record. Changed my life! Still might be the my most cherished concert experience. They might have been even better for the News of the World" tour, but nothing like having your mind blown by a legendary band live for the first time.
I like Hot Space, it’s funky! One of the first albums I listened to from them when my cousin recorded it on to cassette for me about 1990. It was ‘Hot Space’ on one side ‘The Works’ on the other.
Great show guys, and one of the great rock bands of all time. It's always bummed me out that I have never seen them live. Fav: Queen II Least: Hot Space Wildcard: Innuendo, probably more of a sentimental choice, but still an excellent and interesting album
I think both Queen and Bowie following parallel lines, Queen from Queen 1 to Jazz , and Bowie with Space Oddity to Scary Monsters, for Queen it was Hot Space , a dance album that really blew it , for Bowie Lets Dance , another Dance album and he blew it too , a great run of albums for both acts never to be repeated !
I love the Miracle start to finish. Almost every song on there is smokin. If youre testing a stereo, use "my baby does me". The guitars at the beginning are perfection
I am with Steven about Innuendo, what an emotional album. The best showman in history? there was Elvis Presley then Freddie Mercury. My wild-card would have to be Queen's appearance in Live Aid, they came, they conquered, still gives me chills watching it. Also, Spandau Ballet rocks, "Through the Barricades" is awesome !
Great show chaps. My two favs: 1. Sheer Heart Attack 2. Jazz I got on the Queen train with Now I'm Here which I bought the single with my "pocket money" in 1975. Up to that point Slade were my favs but we're on a downward trajectory and Queen filled the void. Jazz had Mustapha with blistering guitar from Brian plus the "poster" for the teenage lad to look at! My worst two: 1. Hot Space 2. A Kind Of Magic There 80's catalogue to me was spotty, plenty of good stuff but to me was a vehicle for Freddie. Your comparison to Quo Steven was spot on. Once the NWOBHM broke they took a bit of a back seat for me. My wildcard is The Works. I wanted to give some love to the 80's material.
Nice one, Steven. I received Sheer Heart Attack as a Christmas present in 1974 and was one of the first dozen LPs that I owned. I loved it. Even the (and I use several quotation marks here) filler is fantastic but Now I'm Here, Brighton Rock and Lap of the Gods (both versions) are on any playlist that I would make. I saw them live in December 1975 and still cite it as the best gig that I have attended. The later albums have dull moments but there are no Queen records that fail to have at least one fantastic track. (nothing wrong with Under Pressure)
Big Queen fan lucky enough to see them at Madison Square Garden a couple of times around News of the World Tour. My two favorites 1)Queen II 2)Sheer Heart Attack. Least favorites Hot Space,The Miracle. Thanks great show!
Hi Pete and Simon and Steven fun as always ,so my two favourite are Innuendo and A Night at the Opera, the one I don't play anymore is Hot Space.and my wild card is Queen 2
Pete + Steven + Simon = guaranteed entertainment! 👍 Favourites: Sheer Heart Attack & News of the World Wildcard: Jazz Least Favourites: Hot Space & Made in Heaven 👍
@@TranquilityFireReid Hi Steven, did you manage to work out why Simon’s Queen box set had The Works album numbered at XIII (13)? I presume the LP’s would’ve been numbered as follows: Queen I Queen 2 II SHA III ANATO IV ADATR V NOTW VI Jazz VI Live Killers (lp 1)VII Live Killers (lp 2) VIII The Game IX Flash X Hot Space XII The Works XIII (13) 👍🏽
@@shaunsmith3538 Thanks Shaun! Simon did work it out during the show, but we were probably having that much of a lark that it was easy to miss!! Thanks as ever for watching! 👍
This was a great episode. I was introduced to Queen for the very first time in early 1975 with the album Sheer Heart Attack. The power of that particular album has stayed with me ever since then and it remains my #1 favourite to this day. In the early 80's I started to drift away from Queen as their stylistic changes just weren't doing it for me anymore. That was until 1991, and the release of Innuendo - what a fantastic album - Freddie's swansong - it remains my #2 favourite Queen album. As for my least favourites......they are The Miracle and Hot Space. My Wild Card pick is "News of the World" - their tour of that album was when I caught Queen live in concert in London, UK at the Wembley Empire Pool North Arena in May 1978. Standout songs from that concert for me were "We Will Rock You" and "Bohemian Rhapsody". Freddie was the consummate showman, and Brian May was simply amazing on guitar. One of my fondest concert memories of all time.
My absolute favorite band and my constant companions through my life so far, since I was 10 and started to get interested in music. My Favorites: Queen II, A Night At The Opera My Least Favorite: The Cosmos Rocks, Made In Heaven My Wild Cards: Innuendo (Best of the non-70s-Album), Live At The Rainbow ˋ74 (Best Live-Album)
My wild card: the 1973 BBC version of “See What a Fool I’ve Been”, as remixed for the bonus disc of the 2011 Queen II remaster. The version they released on the b-side of “Seven Seas of Rhye” is accurately called a “spoof” in the liner notes of that CD - but the BBC version is the real deal. It’s Queen playing the blues, more or less, and I think it’s awe-inspiring. Freddie’s vocal is outstanding - he shows off all his vocal devices, but he also locks in and sings it pure and high. And Brian May, double-tracked throughout, goes from playing harmonies with himself, to soloing over his own rhythm guitar, to playing two solos at once, and it’s fantastic. It’s an amazing track, it’s as heavy as the first album, and for me it’s THE hidden gem in the Queen catalog. I just can’t get enough of it.
Grew up on Queen since I was a toddler. An early memory was being called into the living room by my parents to tell me that Freddie had died. Favourite albums are Sheer Heart Attack and Day at the Races. Least favourite are Hot Space and Flash. Wild card is Innuendo, just because it was the first album I ever bought.
About the Hot Space album, from what I've read John Deacon was all for the new direction along with Freddie. The word lacklustre was used and that sums up the album perfectly. Listen to the live version of Staying Power and think what might have been.
HUGE QUEEN FAN!!! LOVE ALL OF IT!!! So, OK here we go... Favorites... News Of The World (my All Time Favorite Album!) QUEEN II Least Favorites.... Hot Space (though I still spin it occasionally cleaning the house! lol) The Miracle (thought I Want It All, The Title Track, Invisible Man and Was It All Worth It are some of my favorites that I still play often) Wild Card... INNUENDO
Excellent discussion lads! I'm a big Queen fan, especially 70s Queen....Live At Rainbow would be my wildcard and great DVD as well....., as for favorite , that's tough , I tend to return to Jazz and SHA of late....also really liked Queen + PR live recordings....I've been a fan since 75 and thanks for doing this! Keep up the great work!
Favourite two Queen 1 and Innuendo least liked two Made in heaven and hot space. Wild card live magic mainly as it was first Queen album I had. Took a couple of years before I bought Made in heaven it sounded as if it would be hodge podge of leftover bits and re-recorded songs, finally bought it and it didn't really change my mind .
Excellent topic, excellent show! Deep Cuts - Brian May recently talked about three compilations called Deep Cuts. Would you recommend them for fans who have the Greatest Hits and are familiar with other radio hits? What is your verdict on them? I had hoped you would talk about those, too. Steven did mention it in passing...
Hi Gert - Thanks for watching! Yes, the Deep Cuts compilations come HIGHLY recommended. For me they do an outstanding job of cherry picking the best non-single tracks from the entire catalogue. They can also still be picked up for really reasonable prices as well.
fantastic show guys...Sheer heart attack and a night at the opera best 2. ....... hot space and made in heaven worst 2....... live killers wildcard........By the way Joe Jackson did not play on Keep passing the open windows. However Chris Rea did the finger clicks on A Kind of Magic
@@simonbrayfromsot1375 Yes. Ive just moved from Haslingden, whilst there Grants was my local pub (as my real local The Griffin was always closed).. I used to record in studio near Grants and worked at Accy college for years and just thought I recognised you when I started watching S O best regards
Fantastic show Guys wonderful band. My favourite is Innuendo and second favourite is Made in Heaven, it had a pro effect on me when it was released. Freddie worked and left material for Queen right up to his passing for the band.
Two of my favourite films are Highlander and Flash and Queens soundtracks are a massive part of that. The battle theme (not sure exact title) from Flash is the single greatest instrumental put on record. Innuendo is the only Queen album I reach for on anything like a regular basis.
Queen's absence from touring post "Hot Space" had nothing to do with this album. Freddy Mercury boycotted the states following MTV's decision to ban the video for 'I Want To Break Free' from "The Works."
I agree with Artist Memer. Favorite two: Queen I and Queen II Least favorites: Hot Space and A Kind of Magic Wild card: Live at the Rainbow '74 In addition, I saw Queen three times in the 1970s: 1976, 1977, and 1979.
For me: Top 2: Night at the Opera and News of the World. Bottom 2: Flash Gordon soundtrack and Hot Space Wild card: gotta pull a Pete and make it a three way tie: 1. A Kind of Magic - first Queen album I owned at 15 years old. 2. Works- 2nd album I ever owned 3. The Miracle - The one Queen album that has grown on me the past few years.
Enjoying the video guys! My favourite `A Night At The Opera`. I always say that you could remove `Bohemian Rhapsody` and it would still be a great album! Least favourite `Hot Space` (though I do like the track `Las Palabras De Amor`).
2 favs: Sheer Heart Attack, Queen II. 2 least favs: A Kind of Magic, Made in Heaven: they both have their moments (especially Magic) but overall they're quite weak, and then there's Flash of course. Wild card: Hot Space. I just love that album, always have since it came out. Cheers.
Favorites: 1. A Night At The Opera - Drop-dead classic from beginning to end. 2. Queen I - Was given a copy on vinyl as a Christmas gift back in high school, and other than Keep Yourself Alive, I'd never heard anything from this one. Out of the first seven albums, this one is probably my 2nd favorite, but I love all of them. Least Favorites: (probably not surprising) 1. Made In Heaven 2. Hot Space Wildcard: The Game - the first Queen album I ever owned as a kid. Still holds a place in my heart.
I became a Queen-fan in ‘79. I love ‘em and know the songs by heart. 2 best: Sheer Heart Attack and Queen l 2 worst (by far): A Kind of Magic and The Miracle Wild card: Live Killers. My very first Queen album. Played it week after week after week in the fall of ‘79.
That 3rd Cross album is called Blue Rock. The three Cross albums are inluded in Roger Taylor's The Lot box set.You also get 2 CDs of the B sides, remixes and what not.
Favorite Jazz Sheer Heart Attack Worst Hot Space Made in Heaven Wild Card A Night at the Opera -best album Saw Queen live once w/Freddie on Hot Space tour....awesome
Favorite Queen. Jazz and Sheer Heart Attack. Least Favorite Queen. Hot Space and Made in Heaven. Wild card. The Rainbow live album. Great show. Pete. I'm a Queen diehard. Wish I could have been a part of the roundtable. If you ever do a Styx show, contact me. I'm a hardcore fan, I've seen them countless times, and have interviewed (in my radio days) Tommy, Dennis, JY, and Chuck. All the albums, deep cuts, and more.
I think most Queen fans would put "Hot Space" dead last with "Made In Heaven" not that far behind. It's way more difficult to put the best albums in order. Number one for me personally will always be "News Of The World" though. Mainly because it was the first Queen album i ever heard and because it was so different to all the other music i was listening to at that time. It was my initial spark to explore into the depth of progressive music.
Not in my top 5, but Hot Space features great songs: Las Palabras del Amor, Put out of the Fire, Under Pressure, Life is Real. Made in Heaven is almost an outtakes collection, but the Freddie's version to Too much Love will kill You is remarkable!
Though I put hot space as least favourite ( above made in heaven) I don't hate it at all it's just a bad Queen album but not a bad album. Then again I also like Mr.Bad guy.
Great trip down memory lane. For a time in the mid-70s Queen were my favourite band. Killer Queen was one of the 1st singles I bought & Night at the Opera was one of the 1st albums. I spent many any evening with my mates Clive , Guy & Daniel arguing which was the best Queen album, song or band member. We did this right up to & including The Game. I saw them 3 times with Freddie - Wembley Arena 1980, Milton Keynes 1982 & Wembley Stadium 1986. I saw them on the Queen + Paul Rogers tour in 2005, & I’ve seen & really enjoyed Queen + Adam Lambert twice. The best was at the Isle of Wight festival in 2016. (the other headliners were the Who & Stereophonics). Anyway with the preambles out the way my top 2 are: News of the World & Night at the Opera. I really don’t like Hot Space & never did, but I find it hard to criticise a band that at its height decided to experiment. Simon’s comparison to Spandau Ballet is interesting as listening to it last week it reminded me of Soft Cell, Human League etc. My other one is A Kind of Magic. Not a bad album, just not as good as the others. My Wild Card is the TH-cam clip of Queen at Live Aid. I must watch it at least once a month. What a comeback performance & if anyone wants to know why Queen are so brilliant - watch this!
I think that Steven is forgetting that Glam rock was in vogue during the early part of Queen’s career hence the album design for Sheer Heart Attack I remember fondly that the design didn’t look out of place on its release . I first saw Queen on Old Grey Whistle Test tv show : And I was hooked from there on seeing them at Hammersmith Odeon in 75 when Bohemian Rhapsody and A Night at the Opera had just made number one I saw them again in 76 when they played a free concert at Hyde Park ,London My last time seeing them was when they played Knebworth , the last UK gig with Freddie I’ve since seen Queen with Adam Lambert at The 02 I know this lineup is a bit marmite with Queen fans ,but I thoroughly enjoyed the show and the lighting ,sound and production was amazing . Adam Lambert openly says he’s not trying to be Freddie , I was really impressed with his vocals and stage charisma
Is the cover Glam Christopher? They just look 'elegantly wasted' to me, which is a look I've never connected with. Thankfully it didn't matter, because the record itself was outstanding! Great list of gigs there!!!! Mega jealous of that!
@@TranquilityFireReid Steven , whilst you’re entitled to your opinion , if you look up Wiki about the Sheer Heart Attack album you’ll see they’ve too commented that it’s indeed very much accepted as a glam rock album . So it’s not just me saying that ! I was a teenage fan of the band right from the debut album onwards and remember well that Queen in 1974 were the opening and support act to fellow British glam rock band Mott the Hoople and again it’s generally accepted that Ian Hunter could see that Glam rock was past its hey day and this led him after the tour to go solo assisted by Bowie side mailman Mick Ronson .
@@christopherdavies3079 I've never thought of Queen as a glam (and don't see Wiki as the best place to confirm that one way or another to be honest) but these genre tags are so vague that who's to say who is right or wrong? Whatever we call them, they were an outstanding band.
@@TranquilityFireReid Yes Steven , whatever our own opinion , I totally agree with you that they were an outstanding band and remember well whilst watching them performing on Live Aid that I was watching something a bit special. Now with hindsight history shows that was the case .
@@TranquilityFireReid Btw Steven , I don’t know if you’re aware of it but back in 1976 a singer called Eddie Howell recorded a song called “ Man from Manhattan “ and it’s not well known but has got Brian May on guitar and Freddie Mercury produced it . It’s worth listening to and wondering how it would have sounded if Freddie had sang it .
Hi guys. My pick for Queen today is: I do not count Made in Heaven as a Queen Album IMO. 1. Favorite - News of The World - I have more of a history with this album than the earlier albums. Least Favorite - Hot Space - Horrible Wild Card - Jazz
another fun show from my favorite sea of tranquility team for Queen my top 3 are sheer heart attack, queen 2 and the miracle least favorite hot space happy Easter and have a good one
As a side note, the film that Queen made "live at the rainbow" was in cinemas across the UK in the 70s... It was shown as the support film to.... Saturday night fever!!
For me, "Sheer Heart Attack" is my favorite Queen album. It's got a great mix of the prog metal from the first two albums combined with the fearless experimentation of "A Night at the Opera." I agree with Steven, the cover is bad. Probably Queen's worst cover. The worst? It's easy to pick on "Hot Space." I don't mind mixed with dance music, so I can listen to "Hot Space" occasionally. But it just isn't a Queen album to me. "Under Pressure" is a great song though. It's also easy to pick on "Made in Heaven." It's an album of leftovers and filler. It doesn't rock. At all. The only track that's somewhat notable for me is that "Mother Love" was Freddie's final recording. He wasn't even able to finish the song, so when Brian May comes in to sing the third verse, it always makes me tear up a little. I also gotta agree that "Innuendo" is a very special album. It's so much better than it has any right to be, given Freddie's declining health. The title track and "The Show Must Go On" are just triumphant. But the rest of the album is just so delightful. Talk about going out swinging!
The band never thought highly of that album. While it is not among my top 5 Queen albums it is a fine album and has sentimental value for me hiving seen them on that tour.
Sorry for taking so long to react to this one guys, but I was away over the Easter weekend with family and I now HAVE to listen to you guys with a beer, so it's taken a couple of days for all the stars to align!! I did my choices before listening, lest I was swayed by any of your arguments and cheated, but amazingly, we all seem to be singing from very similar hymnsheets... So, having listened with beer in hand (Beeding Best, from the Riverside Brewery in West Sussex), I can now say, best 2 are 'Queen I' and 'Sheer Heart Attack' and at the bottom, 'Hot Space' and 'The Game'... I might have picked Made in Heaven, but its the only album I haven't heard in its entirety, so avoided it.Wild Card is 'Innuendo'. I prefer its title track to BoRhap... Loved the show as always, looking forward to the Saxon one, another hard choice looming there!
@@simonbrayfromsot1375 I know what you mean! I've been listening to 2 a night at work to try and and sort out my wildcard... and my 2nd favourite.. and my 2nd least favourite.. The one thing I have decided on is my beer choices for the next couple of weeks!!! Or I could just be like Biff and have a nice cup of tea!
Fav two: Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack. Bottom two: The Miracle and Flash Gordon (Simon pretty much spoke my own thoughts on the former; Even though I don't hate it, the album just never did enough for me to rank it highly.) I got such pleasure from watching Simon's show and tell! We all knew what was coming with Hot Space; Have to admit Simon had me laughing so hard with his comments on it. I like the album, even though it falls within the bottom five in my rankings of Queen's catalogue. Was surprised to see Steven rank The Game in his bottom two. Didn't expect that one at all. Agree about "Delilah" from Innuendo, but I admit my love for "Bring Back That Leroy Brown" from SHA. Most certainly agree with what was said about A Kind of Magic. Simon, say what about Led Zeppelin? Hahahaha! I guess it goes without saying that I especially enjoyed this episode, considering my favorite band was the subject of it!
I've just never got The Game. Probably that I don't really like any of the big, overheard singles, hasn't helped. I did try again before doing the show - I don't hate it but then I don't REALLY hate any of them... not even Hot Space, but that's a close call.
@@TranquilityFireReid Hot Space (the most obvious), Made in Heaven, Flash Gordon, perhaps even A Kind of Magic -- those are the main suspects for 'least fav'. The Game is usually among the higher-ranked albums in Queen's catalogue; It's not an album I can immediately recall hearing/seeing listed at the bottom of these ranking lists for this band. That's probably why it came as such a big shock (To be fair, you did give us the 'contrarian' warning, lol.) The overplayed singles? Yeah, I can understand that. Oh, forgot to mention my thoughts on "Don't Try Suicide"; That's probably my least fav on the album - the lyrics are sheer cringe.
@@knightvisioniixv I didn't really consider Made In Heaven for worst because I think it's more of an afterthought than a real album. And I must agree that Don't Try Suicide makes me cringe lyrically and musically. Completely agree that it isn't a usual choice for bottom two - and I understand why, but that's just how I hear them. 👍
Sheer heart attack will always be my first favourite album from queen as killer Queen was the first song I'd heard of queen on the radio when I was a teenager my 2 other favourite albums are innuendo and the miracle and a night at the opera followed by made in heaven
Was lucky to be at Knebworth which is best show i have seen.Hard to pick least favourite but Made I Heaven and Hot Space are the ones i play least.Hot Space does have good tracks though but Made In Heaven sadly hasn't.My go to albums are News Of The World and The Works. My wild cards i have 2.Star Fleet Project and a real wild card Magnifico a book by Mark Blake.
A real challenge for sure. I'd have to go with Queen 2, and Jazz as my favourites. Queen 2 could make it for March Of The Black Queen alone. I went with Jazz cos that was my entry point, singles aside. Love Mustapha, Bicylce Race, Fat Bottom Girls, and especially Dead On Time. Least favourites would be Hot Space and The Game. Wild card is Live Killers, not perfect but has a lot of energy. Great show guys. P.s. don't mind Delilah myself.
Favourites: Jazz, A day at the races Least favourites: made in heaven, A kind of magic Wild card : Hot Space - Life is Real (Song For Lennon is so underrated)
Even though I am more of a folk and indie fan than a classic rock fan, I still love the discussions on this channel, especially the UK connection! Nice to see Lancashire represented.
My 2 fav's- Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack 2 Least Fav- Hot Space and Flash Soundtrack Wildcard-Live Killers (great versions of Brighton Rock, Now I'm Here, Dreamers Ball and first recorded version of We Will Rock You fast).
Hey Steven Simon Pete SOT. I saw Queen in 77 when they played arena. Great show. I know How I love the debut album (1)Queen. A classic. (2) A Night At The Opera and (3)Tha Game likeable faves for me then(4) Queen 2 and (5) News Of The World. So there is top 5. For me.
I actually like Hot Space, it was the first Queen album I heard when I was 13 in 1982. 2 favourites are Sheer Heart Attack & The Works, 2 least favourites are Made In Heaven and Queen II.
Great video gentlemen! I grew up listening to Queen in the eighties, so my Queen is eighties Queen! I know a lot of people can't stand this period but it my favourite (I do love the seventies stuff though!!) I've listened to all the Queen stuff multiple times this week and here's mine... Favourites: The Works and Innuendo Least Favourite: Seem obvious but Hot Space and Made in Heaven (That bit on Mother love when Freddie stops singing and Brian starts, because Freddie had died before he could record the rest, is absolutely heart breaking!) Wildcard: The Game. I had Greatest hits on tape that some one had done for me and they filled the space with this album. Fucking hate another one bites the dust though!!
Favourite Queen albums Queen Queen ll Perhaps two of the best debut and follow up pairings around. Certainly up there. Least favourites Hot Space, just simply Gaga (but Asda completist I do own a copy 😮) The Miracle, the cover makes me go dizzy! Wild card Live in ‘86 Stunning recording, such a shame that it wasn’t released in 1986 🙂 Keep yourself alive, Pete 😉.
Favourite for me is Sheer Heart Attack, not just my favourite Queen album but favourite overall. Second favourite varies but I'd probably go Queen 1. Least favourites are Hot Space and Made in Heaven. Wildcards would be Flash Gordon (some genius stuff on this) and Jazz which would be better with a different run order (open with Let Me Entertain You and finish with Don't Stop Me Know) and drop More of That Jazz and If You Can't Beat Them Join Them. It's also Old Queen meets new Queen. Some tracks that could be on previous work and some others that preface what they will do in future albums.
Favorites: Jazz, A Day At The Races Least Favorites: Hot Space, The Miracle Wild Card: Greatest Hits will always be special to me because it was the first album I ever bought. I will say, I think Action This Day (Hot Space) and Breathru (The Miracle) are great songs though.
I was really excited to get Made In Heaven because I expected more! As a massive Queen fan, I have a ton of tracks that are unreleased, etc. This album is just a bunch of tracks that every Queen fan already had in one way or another. Several were on Mr Bad Guy. One was a B-side from The Miracle. Beautiful Day was an outtake from The Game. There are only a few songs that were completely unheard - Let Me Live (which was recorded in 1983), Mother Love and Winter's Tale which were recorded post-Innuendo in 1991, and You Don't Fool Me which might as well have been released on Hot Space. One of the biggest let-downs in history. It could have been a farewell EP with 4 or 5 tracks. The other stuff was redundant! PS - If you turn up the fade-in on Scandal from the Miracle album, Freddie is singing Delilah... he apparently loved that cat!! Top 2 Best: Innuendo and Queen II Top 2 Worst: Hot Space and Made In Heaven Wildcard: The Miracle and A Day At The Races are both excellent. Cosmos Rocks and Flash don't count as far as I'm concerned. I don't care about Wembley '86 because Freddie's voice was crap and the setlist felt uninspired. I can go on about Queen for days... but I'll leave it here for now. ;)
I'm new to the whole Queen phenomena so, my opinions may be a little out in left field. The funny thing is I got into Queen after listening to Hot Space. I wanted to know if it's bad as people say it is. I agree that's far from their best but, I don't hate it. I've heard all of their albums from Queen I up to Hot Space and The Miracle. So, I'll offer my two cents: Favorite Albums: The Game - I agree that Another One Bites is played to death but, it's still like it. Dragon Attack my favorite song on this album. Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Play the Game and Save Me I also think are great. I don't hate Don't Try Suicide maybe because of the story behind it. The music is also very similar to The Police's Walking On The Moon. At least that's what I hear. Queen I - I automatically liked it the first time I heard it. It's definitely a departure from their more popular albums. I suggest that anyone getting into Queen should hear it. You might be pleasantly surprised. Least Favorite Albums: Jazz just doesn't connect w/me, sorry! The same goes for The Miracle and most of their 80s albums. Wild Cards: I have two because they're essentially a pair. I like A Day At The Races a lot. It's very similar to A Night At The Opera but, I like the songs on this album better. Even though I'm not a major fan of A Night At The Opera, mainly because of Bohemian Rhapsody, I don't think you can appreciate one w/out the other. Oh Simon, I was shocked to hear you don't like Led Zeppelin. Surprise, they're my favorite band behind INXS. However, I think you might find these couple of tidbits somewhat interesting. I saw a documentary about Queen and one of the subjects that came up was Freddie Mercury's early record collection. He owned only a dozen albums and, would you like to guess what two of them were? If you guessed, Led Zeppelin I and Led Zeppelin II, you'd be correct. Also, I'm sure if it was the band or someone promoting the band that described Queen as a cross between Led Zeppelin and Ziggy Stardust. After I heard that, Queen started to make more sense to me. Oh, there's also the Freddie Mercury tribute concert where one of the guest singers was Robert Plant but, maybe that's a coincidence? I know this won't change your mind about Zeppelin but, I thought it was something you might be interested to know?!
I understand Zep influence on the band but I just can't warm to them even though I own a few of their albums. The Freddie Mercury Tribute might well get a mention on a future concert episode.
@@simonbrayfromsot1375 Agreed re Led Zep. I appreciate some of their music, not all. I don't understand the hype about them which continues to this day. A good band, but personally I find them quite overrated.
@@simonbrayfromsot1375 I can't believe you own Zeppelin albums?! The funny thing about the seventies was that it's an embarrassment of riches, as far as bands are concerned. The eighties are my favorite decade, mainly because that's when I grew-up. The seventies are a very close second. I will split the difference w/you and say that Led Zeppelin and Queen are among the best the seventies had to offer. I'm a total Zeppelin fan but, the more I learn about Queen, the more I like😁
@@kimberlywalker3970 You might like Deep Purple very much then....they were one of the biggest bands of the 1970's. A good place to start would be their 1972 album Machine Head.
Beverage for this evening is the very fine Innis & Gunn "The Original" Favourites - "Queen II" (Queen at their proggiest) and "A Night At The Opera" ( like Pete said as stone cold classic even without Bohemian Rhapsody) Least Favourite - "Hot Space" ('nuff said!) and "The Miracle" (like Simon said, this one never connected with me). Wildcard- "Flash Gordon" I really liked this even though it's completely bonkers!
My favourites are "Queen II" and "Day at the Races" which didn't get a mention, but really could be any from Queen to The Game. Hot Space i bought when released and returned to the shop the next day , but can tolerate it these days, its not as bad as i thought. Agree about "At the beeb" and "Live at Rainbow", heavy albums. My wildcard "The Works".
UK Connection...one of my favorite weekly shows on all of TH-cam land. It is always the first thing I do after work on Saturdays. Thank you gentlemen for the knowledge, the stories and the humor.
Thanks for the kind words Shane.
Hey Shane. Can't tell you how good it is to read comments like that. Thank you so much!
OMG! another great and funny opening! coffee spitter 2 minutes in! lol... been looking forward to this episode all week!
I was going to give up on this but…the jokes. Damn. Good to have some laughs on a dreary rainy Sunday night before the week begins. Thanks gents
Thanks for watching and laughing along!
Great video for my favourite band! Cheers guys!
They say Freddie's voice was never better than on the "Crazy Tour". Hopefully the Hammersmith show from Dec.1979 is released officially some day.
What great memories!

Always a great show!!! Rock on guys!!!
Cheers Curt!
Brighton Rock played at the Brighton Centre 1979… was special…
Were you there??
Great show guys, and one of the great rock bands of all time. It's always bummed me out that I have never seen them live.
Fav: Queen II
Least: Hot Space
Wildcard: Innuendo, probably more of a sentimental choice, but still an excellent and interesting album
Great choices Eric. Completely agreee about the disappointment of never having seen them live.
Favorite: Queen I
Least favorite: Hot Space
Wildcard: Live at the Rainbow '74. This is one of my favorite live albums, and it's very metal.
Amazing Video guys! Greetings from Spain!
I love the Miracle start to finish. Almost every song on there is smokin. If youre testing a stereo, use "my baby does me". The guitars at the beginning are perfection
I REALLY enjoyed this! Other than McCartney and the Beatles.... Queen is my favourite:) Thank you gentlemen. Have a great day.
Great to hear 'Great King Rat' get some love....such a great song. Always has been one of my favourite Queen songs.
It's a real tune Greg. Thanks for watching.
Nice video.Happy Easter everybody.😃👍

I am with Steven about Innuendo, what an emotional album. The best showman in history? there was Elvis Presley then Freddie Mercury. My wild-card would have to be Queen's appearance in Live Aid, they came, they conquered, still gives me chills watching it. Also, Spandau Ballet rocks, "Through the Barricades" is awesome !
Great show again lads.
Cheers Kenny!
Great show chaps. My two favs:
1. Sheer Heart Attack
2. Jazz
I got on the Queen train with Now I'm Here which I bought the single with my "pocket money" in 1975. Up to that point Slade were my favs but we're on a downward trajectory and Queen filled the void. Jazz had Mustapha with blistering guitar from Brian plus the "poster" for the teenage lad to look at! My worst two:
1. Hot Space
2. A Kind Of Magic
There 80's catalogue to me was spotty, plenty of good stuff but to me was a vehicle for Freddie. Your comparison to Quo Steven was spot on. Once the NWOBHM broke they took a bit of a back seat for me. My wildcard is The Works. I wanted to give some love to the 80's material.
Great stuff Russ. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Ken - and apologies that I just can't get on board with Under Pressure - I have tried!

SHA, and Queen II for me, hot space and made in heaven stinkers. Wild card Jazz!
My Favorites:
Queen II, A Night At The Opera
My Least Favorite:
The Cosmos Rocks, Made In Heaven
My Wild Cards:
Innuendo (Best of the non-70s-Album), Live At The Rainbow ˋ74 (Best Live-Album)
Great choices!

I saw Flash Gordon a million times. I love that soundtrack.
In Bicycle Race, Freddie sang..."Jaws was never my scene, and I don't like Star Wars"...but, he did like Flash Gordon. 😁

Great show.
Great stuff Parish!
I think that Steven is forgetting that Glam rock was in vogue during the early part of Queen’s career hence the album design for Sheer Heart Attack
I remember fondly that the design didn’t look out of place on its release .
I first saw Queen on Old Grey Whistle Test tv show : And I was hooked from there on seeing them at Hammersmith Odeon in 75 when Bohemian Rhapsody and A Night at the Opera had just made number one
I saw them again in 76 when they played a free concert at Hyde Park ,London
My last time seeing them was when they played Knebworth , the last UK gig with Freddie
I’ve since seen Queen with Adam Lambert at The 02
I know this lineup is a bit marmite with Queen fans ,but I thoroughly enjoyed the show and the lighting ,sound and production was amazing .

Hi guys. My pick for Queen today is: I do not count Made in Heaven as a Queen Album IMO.

Least Favorite - Hot Space - Horrible
Wild Card - Jazz
another fun show from my favorite sea of tranquility team for Queen my top 3 are sheer heart attack, queen 2 and the miracle least favorite hot space happy Easter and have a good one
As a side note, the film that Queen made "live at the rainbow" was in cinemas across the UK in the 70s... It was shown as the support film to.... Saturday night fever!!
I did not know that Mark! Thanks for watching.
Wait what?? They showed the queen concert in cinemas?? Was this around 1975??
I would put Jazz in my top 2 along with Sheer Heart Attack. I am with Pete I think Jazz is very strong! So much great stuff with Queen it’s tough!
Hi Iain, I'm glad you're joining us in having a beverage.

Fav two: Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack.
Bottom two: The Miracle and Flash Gordon (Simon pretty much spoke my own thoughts on the former; Even though I don't hate it, the album just never did enough for me to rank it highly.)
I got such pleasure from watching Simon's show and tell!

I really can't get my shit together on LZ. Never been able to love them.
@@simonbrayfromsot1375 Haha! You have no worries with me. They are not close to being in my top faves, but I've always enjoyed them.
Til 1978 magnificent, possibly my fave band,
Best queen 2 and SHA
Worst hot space- no surprise, though the miracle is very weak also
Favorites: A Day At The Races, Queen II. Least Favorite: Hot Space, The Miracle. Wildcard: Jazz.
i have the DVD,s of the rainbow & hammersmith shows. brilliant!
Favourites: Jazz, A day at the races
Least favourites: made in heaven, A kind of magic
Wild card : Hot Space - Life is Real (Song For Lennon is so underrated)
Favorites: Queen II, Day @ the Races, Innuendo
Least favorite: Made In Heaven
Wild Card: Live Killers
Even though I am more of a folk and indie fan than a classic rock fan, I still love the discussions on this channel, especially the UK connection! Nice to see Lancashire represented.
Thanks for watching!
Saw EVERY uk tour in the 70’s…including them supporting Mott the Hoople.
Wow, what a show!
Did queen tours in the uk sell out very quickly in the mid to late 1970s?? (1975-1979)
@@srirahulpremkumar1600 yes they did…very quickly
@@malcolmsmith5271 that’s cool. Would they sell out in a few days or like a few hours??
@@srirahulpremkumar1600 a few days.
My 2 fav's- Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack
2 Least Fav- Hot Space and Flash Soundtrack
Wildcard-Live Killers (great versions of Brighton Rock, Now I'm Here, Dreamers Ball and first recorded version of We Will Rock You fast).
For me.
Hubby likes all the albums that had 'no synthesizers' printed on the cover after that starting from The Game it was downhill.
Favourites: The Works and Innuendo
Least Favourite: Seem obvious but Hot Space and Made in Heaven (That bit on Mother love when Freddie stops singing and Brian starts, because Freddie had died before he could record the rest, is absolutely heart breaking!)
Wildcard: The Game. I had Greatest hits on tape that some one had done for me and they filled the space with this album. Fucking hate another one bites the dust though!!
Great stuff Matt. Good to see someone standing up for 80s Queen!
Awesome - Sheer Heart Attack
Shite - Hot Space
You got that right JKR!
Favourite Queen albums
Queen
Queen ll
Perhaps two of the best debut and follow up pairings around. Certainly up there.
Least favourites
Hot Space, just simply Gaga (but Asda completist I do own a copy 😮)
The Miracle, the cover makes me go dizzy!
Wild card
Live in ‘86
Stunning recording, such a shame that it wasn’t released in 1986 🙂
Keep yourself alive, Pete 😉.
Favorites: Jazz, A Day At The Races
Least Favorites: Hot Space, The Miracle
Wild Card: Greatest Hits will always be special to me because it was the first album I ever bought.
I will say, I think Action This Day (Hot Space) and Breathru (The Miracle) are great songs though.
I really like “The Miracle.” I’d say if it’s not the best 80s Queen album, it would definitely be second best (before “The Game”) in my opinion.
Where did Steven get that Armored Saint shirt? Looks fantastic!
Top 2 Best: Innuendo and Queen II
Top 2 Worst: Hot Space and Made In Heaven
Wildcard: The Miracle and A Day At The Races are both excellent. Cosmos Rocks and Flash don't count as far as I'm concerned. I don't care about Wembley '86 because Freddie's voice was crap and the setlist felt uninspired. I can go on about Queen for days... but I'll leave it here for now. ;)
Great post. Really enjoyed reading that! Thanks!
So, I'll offer my two cents:
Favorite Albums:
The Game - I agree that Another One Bites is played to death but, it's still like it.
Least Favorite Albums:
Jazz just doesn't connect w/me, sorry! The same goes for The Miracle and most of their 80s albums.
Wild Cards:
I have two because they're essentially a pair.
@@garyh.238 Very much on the same page!
Pete, I'm glad to hear that you are on the mend. If you don't mind me asking, did you get the vaccine, and if so, when?
Beverage for this evening is the very fine Innis & Gunn "The Original"
Favourites - "Queen II" (Queen at their proggiest) and "A Night At The Opera" ( like Pete said as stone cold classic even without Bohemian Rhapsody)
Least Favourite - "Hot Space" ('nuff said!) and "The Miracle" (like Simon said, this one never connected with me).
Wildcard- "Flash Gordon" I really liked this even though it's completely bonkers!
Solid beverage choice Jim! And a cracking Wildcard as well!
