My Dad had a similar, horrified reaction to Child In Time. Gillan's screams start kind of sweetly quiet, but then...." Turn it DOWN, son !!" Ha ! I miss him, every day.

Andy Williams - 'Music to Watch Girls By'. At some point in 90s Britain this song was on a car ad and got a bit popular. I duly went out and bought the cd single. Amazingly enough, after years of blasting out all sorts of rock, metal, punk etc (having my bedroom on the attic floor did help with that) it was dear old Andy Williams that prompted my Mum to yell up the stairs, 'Turn that racket down!!!'

I went through a short phase were I got into some speed metal back in the 80’s and my mom would say “What the hell is that?” “It’s the great Kat mom, Worship Me or Die album.” She’d make me either turn it down to where she couldn’t hear or I’d have to turn it off completely. S.O.D. Speak English or Die I can’t play around my wife. She hates that style of music. Come to think of it there is a lot of my collection my wife doesn’t like. We are like Donny and Marie on steroids. She’s a lot of bit country and I’m a lot a bit rock n roll.
Great show guys! Fun way to kick off the new year!

As a lifelong Steely Dan obsessive, it brings tears to my eyes to think that anyone would say, "turn that off." But I get it. Donald Fagen's voice can be an acquired taste, and "Countdown to Ecstasy" in particular is The Dan's least accessible album, by far.

A few of the bands that seemed to be especially nerve-wracking for them were Exciter, Kreator, and Celtic Frost. I also got a lot of complaints about Swiss hard rockers Krokus, due to their lyrical content.

All extreme metal and most more out there prog with my parents: At the Gates At war with reality (perhaps their "softest" album), King Crimson Islands during the car ride - At the Gates lasted 15 seconds, King Crimson roundabout a minute before they turned it of. Both like ITCOTCK and I even showed them Lizard which seemed alright. They rarely get into new music at their age, maybe once a decade a new artist so I was quite surprised that Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson are all the rage ever since their reunion.
I also met with a bigger group last year and somehow forgot that most of them listened to metal adjacent music, so Public Enemy got quite a few sour comments but Immortal At the Heart of Winter seemed fine.

I jumped in our band van to travel to a gig and I said 'Hey, throw this disc in the player'. It was Opeth's Ghost Reveries! (I LOVE this band) The opening track is often used for 'reaction videos' on YT. It starts nicely enough and then.......... explodes into death metal. It lasted about 10 seconds before it was shutdown. The look on my bandmates faces was priceless.

When I was ten or so i was really starting to get into rock 'n' roll. it was 1990 but I basically started witht he roots, and listened to a lot of oldies radio shows, had a bunch of Jerry lee Lewis, Chuck Barry and Elvis tapes. My dad was really into jazz and Latin music and classical; not so much rock anymore, and especally not the du-wop and 50s stuff, which they would play a lot of on the radio (and at that age I quite liked some of it myself). I didn't really realise this at first and thought my dad would share my enthusiasm for this music, it being the "stuff of his youth" and all that. The parents were pretty good about tolerating my music even when I was a teen and listening to metal, but after a whole night of "dooo waaa ditty dum doowopa-dee-lalalalaaaa shaboom shaboom" on the living room stereo, my dad finally snapped and said "Can somebody shut these guys up?!? Why do we have to listen to this sh*t*!!!?" It was so funny. One time I also had a tape with a few cool songs I liked, but a bunch of pretty smaltzy stuff like perry Como. We were driving in the car with my sister, and it was a pretty long drive -- this song came on that went "ther's a wheel, and it goes round round round and it spins along with a happy song", and my dad goes: "if you don't turn this off now, I'm going to throw up!"
The other thing, that neither of my parents liked, was swearing. Brought home an Ice T tape once and my mum, suspicious, took a listen. That one went in the garbage.

I'm 66 and blessed with 21 year old twins, and we love going up to Scotland as often as we can, which entails a very long drive from the English Midlands, so lots of great music for me on the CD player, which usually means King Crimson, Katatonia, Iamthemorning, Big Big Train, or Riverside etc,,,
They are not keen on any of it, except they both like a bit of Springsteen and my son insists that every long journey begins with a big singalong to Born in the USA, with him mangling the lyrics!
I did manage to get their mother into Crimson at one point, but sadly the first concert I took her too was the Thrak tour, which is probably their most inaccessible period, and that was the end of that :)

Who doesn't love Miles Davis or John Coltrane? I grew up listening to this along with my dad's love of country and folk music. Mum was all musicals and rock'n'roll. They happily put up with Big Country, Iron Maiden, ZZ Top and Magnum! At least I wasn't going out and buying really poppy stuff!

LOL great show guys. The main one that comes to my mind is my mom. When The Dirty deeds album was brand new, my friend and I were playing it. and the song big balls came on and my mom threw a shit fit. As the years went on, we always joked what my mom about it. And she joked right back. Ah, the memories. LOL.

Enjoying another greatly entertaining show this week with a rather "smooth & satisfying" 6.5% Old Crafty Hen.
Only really 3 albums spring to mind that the other half can't abide.
"Mëkanïk Dëstruktïẁ Kömmandöh" (or anything else) by Magma - no, no and again no! 🤐
"In Rock" by Deep Purple - or anything featuring "That Whiny Man" on vocals 🤨
I would never, never, be rash enough to play Comus for the missus 😇

Another fun UK Connection. That Comus album is scary.
I was playing Octopus in work and one of my colleagues asked who I was listening to? (he likes Behemoth) I said Gentle Giant and he replied it's weird. When I have to work with my team colleagues, it is preferable to them if I have earphones on.

Deicide is the Slayer of death metal! Great band, but I prefer Slayer more though. Nonetheless awesome band. Glen Benton's bass playing and vocals are great, but Steve Asheim is a great drummer and the best member of the band. The Hoffmann Brothers are great guitar players, but later on got 2 talented players within Ralph Santolla and Jack Owen. Drums in metal have to be tremendous. Guitar players are great, but drummers make the faster beat/heavy sound.
