2 favourite albums : 1. Powerage 2. Highway To Hell 2 least favourite: 1. Blow Up Your Video 2. Who Made Who Wildcard : Flick Of The Switch Hello Peter, Simon and Steven and greetings from Finland! I think these are the best and worst albums for me. Wildcard is definitely the most underrated album in the AC/DC catalog and I truly love the raw sound of it and the songs are so good, too! They might be the heaviest AC/DC ever made. Take care and keep on doing these shows!
just to be contrarian, Blow Up Your Video is the first cassette I bought with my own money and holds a holy place in my heart and my collection! cheers
@@miaajaniss YEH it was a bit of a shock to me when I gave it a proper listen. As it normally gets lumped in as a dud. But as you said, it def sits comfortably in the mid-tier.
Good point Peter makes in never actually reaching for an AC/DC album. I happen to reach for the occasional album of theirs every now and again, but they all have one thing in common: Bon Scott.
Glad to see you do another video on AC/DC Pete! My favorite band ever since I was a little kid, this is a fairly hard list to make but there are ones that stand out over others. Favorites: Back in Black, Powerage & Let There Be Rock ( Had to pick the three, Highway To Hell almost made it 4. lol Hard to pick between those 4 for sure! ) Least favorites: Stiff Upper Lip & Blow Up Your Video Wildcard: Power Up ( I was going to say Flick of the Switch or '74 Jailbreak but since they were picked, I'll pick the new album, lots of good songs on it, I was impressed when I heard it the first time. ) I can't really say I dislike any of there albums but some haven't aged as well as others. I like at least a few songs from every album they ever did.
Where i came in with acdc was the first single i ever bought - Rock n Roll Damnation as seen on Top of The Pops 1978 - i purchased the single the next day at HMV Records in Glasgow. It must have been a Friday because Top of The Pops was always on BBC1 every Thusrday at 7pm. And thus the parent album Powerage is their greatest.
It's all been said but for me it's still all about Bon and Australian culture of the '70s. They were a kick-ass rock and roll band but like Alice Cooper they had one of the greatest frontmen in rock. In addition though, Bon represented the new Australia, when it finally came of age and found its voice and youthful swagger. It's never taken any shit since. That was always the key to AC/DC. Enjoyed the show and the beers guys.
In Brazil, Back in Black was released with the B side as the A side and vice-versa. Nobody ever took notice of that until the release of BiB on CD (with Hells Bells as opener).I mean, the LP backcover had the tracklist in random order and the first title in it was Back in Black. So, it made complete sense to think that Back in Black was the opener. After all, Highway to Hell, For Those... Dirty Deeds, all those albums start with the title track. And quite frankly, Back and Black and You Shook Me All Night Long sound like the perfect opneres, while Hells Bells and Shoot to Thrill (both more menacing) sound like the perfect B side openers. My 2 favs Powerage and HIghway to Hell, 2 least favs Rock or Bust and Blow up (although I love Two's Up). Wildcard: Ballbreaker
Sorry I missed you guys Sunday. Busy weekend for me. However I was able to have a couple beers from Covington Kentucky. GARAGE BEER Premium Lager. Nothing fancy just a good lager. I wanted to pick 3 also but since we are only doing 2 my slow motion across the screen is Back In Black. My 2 favorites however are 🥁 #1- Highway to Hell #2- Powerage 2 great albums top to bottom, front to back, all killer no filler!!! Least favorites Blow Up Your Video and Stiff Upper Lip Wildcard: Flick of the Switch. An album of theirs that’s definitely been climbing up my ranking. Great show as always fellas. A Motörhead show in the future maybe?
Great fun as ever chaps! Favourites for me are "Highway to Hell" and "Back in Black" fond memories of attending a trendy student party back in the day and clearing the room by putting Highway to Hell on the turntable! 😁 Least favourites for me are probably "Stiff Upper Lip" and "Who Made Who" - haven't listened to either in years. Wildcard for me would be "PWR/UP" a really enjoyable album.
On vacation in 1979 with family down in Wildwood NJ, my older cousin David (he was 20, me 11) tired of me playing KISS and Queen constantly, took me to the boardwalk and won me Let There Be Rock on cassette and said "listen to these guys I think you'll dig it" and I was hooked! Favorites: 1. Let There Be Rock 2. Highway To Hell Least Favorites: 1. Fly On The Wall 2. Blow Up Your Video Wild Card: 1. For Those About To Rock
After Peter with Martin Popoff, this is my favourite SOT format; but it’s the humour here that makes it. Lots of good cheer, warm jokes and Pete is an excellent host. There is genuine camaraderie here…
I might be in the minority here but I like “Fly On Wall”. Some of it might have to do with the fact that it came out when I first started buying cassettes and it has sentimental value to me. Pete, in regards to beers from Vermont, I highly recommend the anything from the Fiddlehead Brewing Company.
This is my band…..This is my life….i love them all….but perhaps i listen often to High Voltage, Let there be Rock, Powerage, Highway to Hell, Back in Black, Flick of the Switch, Black Ice and the New one Power Up…..
What a privilege to listen to you three discussing one of the best bands of all time! Superb entertainment and expert knowledge all rolled into one. Steven, I knew you would pick `Highway To Hell` as so often your favourite albums by a band/singer coincide with mine. Thanks guys and look forward to your next video together!
Another great show. AC/DC have such brilliant songs, even on their poor albums. So this was really hard for me because I don't really listen to their albums but I do regularly listen to my AC/DC play list. Favourites: Highway to Hell, Powerage & Back in Black. Partly because I have such great memories of seeing them at Hammersmith Odeon on both the Highway to Hell & Back In Black tours. Least favourites: Fly on the Wall & Stiff Upper Lip. Wildcard: '74 Jailbreak because it's my favourite AC/DC song. & after 45 years I still don't know whether "he made it out with a bullet in his back" means he died or escaped injured with a bullet in his back. (My friend Clive & I argued over this for weeks).
Hey Pete here’s an episode idea. Greatest songs that have to be heard alongside another song, for example whenever you hear The Song Remains the Same, it has to be followed by The Rain Song. I can think of a few others.
Great analysis , my favourite two no surprises being Highway To Hell , one of the first 10 albums I brought, along with Back In Black. Still remember going to the end of year school disco, headbanging to live version of Whole lotta Rosie. What is interesting is that While I have all AC/DC albums the last two are still sealed, brought them but never played them, maybe a topic for a future show, albums brought but never played, I got many in the collection
That blows my mind Chris. Other than some new arrivals I've listened to everything I've ever bought and more than once. Explain yourself sir! Thanks for watching!
Apologies for the late explanation, just realised how to track comments, anyway why does this happen, maybe habit of just buying a groups releases, storing them up due to binge buying, sometimes wanting a cd for a while and when eventually get it lost interest or moved onto something else, just had a quick scout through A to D in the collection, here are some never opened, in my own walk of shame amongst the sealed copies, are the following, Ayreon - Transitus, Anderson Ponty Band, Kris Barras Band - The Divine and Dirty, Biters - The Future, Bullet Boys - From Out Of The Skies, Burning Rain - Face The Music, Caligula's Horse - Moments, The Darkness - Motorheart, Danger Zone - Closer To Heaven , Deep Purple- Long Beach 1976, Stockholm 1970, I could go on, hmmmm one day!
Great show Pete! Favorites - fly on the wall 74 jailbreak Who made who Powerage Blow up your video Back in black For those about to rock... High voltage Least Favorites - various songs
Brian Johnson was once asked about a critic review: The critic said " Yep.. AC/DC's new album sounds like the last 21 albums!" Too which Brian responded: "That critc is fucked!..we have 22 albums that sound the same!!" They are what they are: A blues based heavy metal band. And a bunch of great guys! Thanks Pete for the platform.
Love these panels and the banter and insights from these three gentlmen. In the past, they have compelled me to revisit my Judas Priest, Maiden, Kiss and other back catelogues. However, AC/ DC are one of those bands which i absolutely loved during my youth - If you want blood - the Glasgow Apollo recorded live album is in my humble opinion, one of the greatest live records ever. if we tell the truth, they have not released a truly great record since 1980 and that is a long time to coast of the glories of their past. However, i was surprised that not one of you mentioned the elephant in the room - that AC/DC were fantastic ... but only with Bon at the helm - the swagger, the voice, the lyrics ... everything we love about AC/DC is epitomised in Bon. Whilst i like Brian, AC/DC stopped being AC/DC on 19th February 1980.
As with many bands, my absolute favorite AC/DC album is If You Want Blood You've Got It. It's got a great selection of the Bon era tunes and the energy level is through the roof. Every song on there is its definitive version, Whole Lotta Rosie is unchained and bursting the 42-39-56 seams. But since you only ever consider the studio albums... 2 favorites: 2. High Voltage, US version since it's the only one I've ever had 1. Powerage AC/DC lost all their danger and most of their swagger when Bon died. Brian does a great job but he seems like one of the lads, you can go have a pint, talk about cars, and make it home to the Missus. But if you had a pint with Bon you'd loose count around 13 pints, wake up naked and bruised in jail with a scorching case of the Jack and if you ever make it back home you'll find the place a mess, your guns missing, your records scratched, your coke stash ravaged, the Missus passed out, and the cat pregnant. 2 least favorites 2. Ballbreaker 1. Stiff Upper Lip Both are decent album but I rarely pick them off the shelf. But that can be said about most of the Brian Johnson era albums. Wildcard: Bonfire box set Play disc one on repeat and it could power every air conditioner in Texas for all eternity. Also, gents, it has a handful of rarities. For more rarities check out Family Jewels, Backtracks, and I think one of you mentioned Plug Me In.
Ditto on the live album. I would come home from a shitting day at school put that record on and everything would feel better. I definitely felt like a problem child for sure always getting in trouble at school hence the short day at school reference. It's just a killer live album. Riff Raff one of my all time favorite songs of their's.
The Bon Scott era: Let There Be Rock -or- Highway To Hell. The Brian Johnson era: Back In Black -or- Flick Of The Switch. ALL just kick ass Rock & Roll!!!
Great show gents! Favourites: TNT (Aussie edition), which I think has several timeless songs and a great youthful energy. Highway to Hell, which as Steven and Peter said is just a fully loaded album of powerful and confident hard rock. Least favourite: Rock or Bust, which is bloated and lacking in dynamics. Blow up Your Video, which simply leaves me cold and unenthusiastic. Wild card: Flick of the Switch, Bedlam in Belgium is a grinding, buzzing, wrecker of a track and they build a varied album around this.
Back in the day, I had Powerage, Highway, Back in Black, For those... and Dirty Deeds. That pretty much sums up my interest in AC/DC although I did have a serious love for "Money Talks." (and "Thunderstruck" until it became a ubiquitous sporting-arena toon.) I did always wish, as a kid, I had the live album, If You Want Blood... (the allowance/snow-shovelling/grass mowing $ only went so far) - really love that one now!)
Another terrific episode fellas. “It’s like watching a magician at work.” - Best laugh this week. 🤘 Nice to see the love for Michael Palace & Danny Vaughn! 🤘🤘
Where to start with one of the bands that started it for me, and were the first band I ever saw live, headlining at least...? Well, my favourites I suppose, Powerage and Highway to Hell. Back in Black was runner up, I must say. Least favourites, well, like all 3 of you, it could have been any two of that 90's era of 'Meh' releases, but I wrote down Blow Up Your Video and Ballbreaker before I listened, and I'll stick with those Wildcard? Any of the live ones, maybe? I nearly went for Live From Atlantic Studios but I decided to do a Simon, cheat and pick 2. Their first, High Voltage, my Aussie vinyl with dog weeing on the generator, and their last, PowerUp, as its so damn good and doesn't outstay its welcome like Black Ice. There, done. Thanks chaps, brilliant as usual...
Acdc one of my top 3 favorite bands ever. Love almost every album by them, pretty much every album during the Bon Scott era I love. Powerage is my favorite. I don’t have a dislike, but the one album I’m just not a fan is Fly on the wall, because I’m not a fan of the production of that album and Brian’s voice sounds rough on that album, couple albums later he sounded good. Even I like the most recent albums too. Power up is a great comeback album and Brian still sings great, but I really need a tour soon please 🙏 I’ve never seen them live and I want to, they are getting older. Great show
All the bon Scott albums for me come above all the Brian Johnson albums. Even back in black. Like Pete i don't listen to them regularly but if I do it's the early albums. If you want raw ac/dc listen to the live at Atlantic studios album
My favourites 1. Flick of The switch 2. Highway to Hell Least favourites-any of the albums from Ballbreaker to Power Up-its hard to find a likeable song let alone a good album from these -you might be able to find 10 songs that are decent
This band keeps getting better with age. Some of my favourite AC/DC songs are the most recent ones: Play Ball, Rock or Bust, Hard Times, Shot in the Dark, No Man’s Land. I like their classic era too but I listen to the new tracks more often.
My favorites would be Highway and Powerage. Least favs would be Ballbreaker and Stiff Upper Lip. Wildcard(s) are Fly on the Wall and Blow Up Your Video. No, they ain't great, but I think the songs are there, but the production, mix, or whatnot isn't. Particularly for Fly. Thanks for another great show guys!
I want to defend Stiff Upper Lip. Took me lots of time, maybe about two decades to realise that I liked it. To me, it sounded weak and slow, now I get 'a sense of grip' whenever I play it. It flows, it grooves... It has some bluesy esamówin. I hated the low power of the guitars; now I feel those guitars really got some balls.
Favourites are Powerage and Let There Be Rock, least favourites are Dirty Deeds and Ballbreaker. Got 2 wildcards, Flick of the Switch and Blow Up Your Video.
Congratulations Simon on Burnley's victory over the Terriers - have to admit you thoroughly deserved it! Would love to here Pete pronounce Huddersfield...
Highway To Hell and Let There Be Rock are my 2 favourites. My least would be the newest 2, Rock Or Bust and Power Up. Wildcard favourites would be Powerage and For Those About To Rock.
Happy hols from the Lake District! I couldn't miss my fix though!! Have to agree with Pete and Steven with Back in Black and Highway to Hell, they are both absolute masterpieces!! Razors edge just misses out for me here! Least favourites probably stiff upper lip, not terrible just not stellar, and black ice, better but far too long!! Wildcard got to be the 2cd version of live, an absolute classic, it could easily have been one of my favourite two but I couldn't have put either of the others here, that would've been weird! Great video gents!!
Thanks again for another great show. One of the first few bands I saw live. I have to agree with Steven and Pete. Highway to Hell and Back in Black are absolute classics. Least favourite was harder. I stopped buying after FTATR until Black ice. Have heard some in between. Probably go with Stiff upper lip. Also can't quite get into Rock or bust. As for wildcard I would go with first AC/DC album I bought ,if you want blood.
I love Let There Be Rock and Powerage. After Mutt Lange got his 'commercial' hands on the band they nosedived into pop/ rock territory with only an occasional glimpse back to their glory days. Let's be honest Whole Lotta Rosie', 'Riff Raff' 'Sin City, 'Dog Eat Dog' and others from those 2 albums have never been bettered...not even close. I'm sure to receive criticism but can anyone really say they 'rocked' harder than on those 2 albums?
Favorite two: Back in Black, High Voltage Least favorite two: Blow Up Your Video, Fly on the Wall Wildcard: Power Up (not a popular opinion, I know, but I love this album)
AC/DC shares something in common with bands like Led Zeppelin (hear me out, Simon, lol), Rush, and Metallica: bands that were heavily featured on radio where/when I grew up; And I don't mean two or three songs - I'm talking TONS of songs. Both Highway to Hell and Back in Black were frequently played in near-full, and plenty of other tracks - from albums before and after the above two (and quite a few of these got mentioned in this video) - were often heard. "Big Balls" and "Squealer"? Those two charmers? Yup. Heard 'em frequently 😉. I've never felt the need to own anything from AC/DC, but they were always good fun. I'm on the same page as Simon regarding the constant repackaging, and I'm with Steven on albums; When I put one on, I listen from front to back. No skipping tracks. Great episode!
Hmm. Flick of the Switch was my entry point into AC/DC(bought it when it came out), so it's always been a favorite of mine as well as being my #1 favorite Brian Johnson sung album. Two favorites: 1. Highway to Hell - A classic. Ever song is a banger, no skips for me. 2. Flick of the Switch - Much like Sabbath's Born Again, I didn't know this was an album I wasn't supposed to like. I listened to this recently and I do like the rawness of it. Dig the songs. As I stated earlier, my favorite Brian Johnson album. Least: 1. Blow up Your Video - Way too many cheezball songs for me. 2. The Razors Edge - I could go forever without having to hear that gawdawful "Thunderbutt" song again. Wildcard(s): Who Made Who - I believe that this is the third AC/DC I bought. I actually really like the instrumentals and it introduced me to the Bon Scott era with the song "Ride On"... I LOVE that song. So as a soundtrack and "best of" it worked for me as I had little to no history with this band at the time. Fly on the Wall - My second AC/DC album. Some good tunes and I liked the beefier guitar tone, but after this every album was meh to awful to me.
Favourite - Highway to Hell. It was the first studio album they released after I started listening to them... Forever a favourite. Closely followed by Let There be Rock which was the second album of theirs that I bought. I prefer the Australian version though either version is brilliant. Least Favourite - Blow Up Your Video..... Ballbreaker... Stiff Upper Lip Wildcard - The Australian version of Dirty Deeds or Flick of The Switch.
I’m real late to this . . I’m gonna pull a Catino-a “Pardo” is a mild change by comparison, lol. Bon Scott: 2 favorites- Powerage & Highway to Hell. Least: Australian High Voltage . . Can’t pick a second. Wild card: If You Want Blood, You’ve Got It. Brian Era: favorites are Back in Black and Ballbreaker. Least: Rock or Bust, Blow Up Your Video Wild Card: Stiff Upper Lip
My favourites are Powerage and Back In Black (predictable I know but they are AWESOME!). Least favourites are Fly on the Wall and For Those about to Rock. My wild card is Stiff Upper Lip, brilliantly produced with some stomping tracks. The greatest filthy blues based rock and roll band in the world.
Another great show Back in Black and Highway to Hell my 2 favourites both are near to being the perfect album. Lost a bit of interest in AC/DC for a while as the '90s albums are a little average but last 3 albums are a big improvement. A great back catalogues of some great songs but some average /mediocre albums mixed with same excellent albums, a bit of an enigma I guess, love the band but not all their albums. A great live band an AC/DC concert is never dull but have never quite been able to match the magic of Back in Black. But I remain a fan always
Favourites Powerage & Highway to Hell. Least favourites Fly on the Wall and Stiff Upper Lip. Totally agree with Steven about Jailbreak - fantastic song. Couldn’t disagree more about Flick of the Switch though - possibly my favourite Brian album and, for that reason, would be my wild card
My all time favorite band, would have to rank Back in Black and Highway to Hell as my two favourites. Blow Up Your Video and Stuff Upper Lip are their weakest. Wildcard would have to be 1992 Deluxe Live. This band live is everything. Man I love hearing the live versions of these amazing songs!
I'm probably one of the few people that prefers 'For Those About to Rock' over 'Back in Black.' Maybe it's cause the latter is overplayed to death and 'For Those About to Rock' sounds more fresh to my ears. Favorites: 'Ballbreaker' and 'For Those About to Rock' Least Favorites: 'Blow Up Your Video' and 'Rock or Bust' Wildcard: 'AC/DC Live' or 'Black Ice'
Nice, thanks! My favorites has always been For Those about To Rock & Dirty Deeds. In my opinion no weak albums at all. Well, maybe Who Made Who is little bit meh...
My introduction to AC/DC was If you want blood..... and saw them on the FTATR tour. Top 2 are, Let there be Rock and Highway to Hell Bottom 2 are, Blow up your video and Stiff upper lip W/C is Back in Black
"Bonfire" is really the only release that had the outtakes. I think the only other ephemera is the live version of "T.N.T." that was the b-side (I think) of "For Those About to Rock, We Salute You" and "Big Gun" from the "Last Action Hero" soundtrack. "Big Gun" hasn't been on any official AC/DC album.
My two favourite AC/DC would be Flick Of The Switch and Back In Black.Rock Or Bust i have only played a couple of times and besides the title track For Those About To Rock disappoints for me.
Favorites: Staying on party lines...Highway to Hell and Back in Black. Least Favorites: Fly on the Wall and Ballbreaker Ginger Wild Card: Flick of the Switch. This album gets a bad rap, but in my humble opinion, it's monumentally better than the albums on either side of it. There are a couple of stronger songs on For Those About To Rock, but FOTS is much more consistent to me. Extra Wild Card: If You Want Blood; even if it's just for the version of Riff Raff on the record...holy crap...amazing. . (edit) Hilarious...didn't think we'd be on the same page, Pete. Awesome. Also, I quite like Black Ice and Power Up
Hey Pete, please listen all your (and yours) choices in the comments like you used to for us 24-7 workers that don't unfortunately have time to listen to all your episodes from beginning to end. Thanks man!
Interesting comments, I too don't reach for their albums as often as I should. My favourites studio albums are: Highway to Hell and Blow Up Your Video Least favourites are Stiff Upper Lip and Rock or Bust Wildcard would be Bonfire box that has some outtakes, a live show from 79 and oddly Back in Black. In reality I always choose If You Want Blood or ACDC Live to listen over any studio album, they're fantastic (except Jailbreak, I was bored of Angus taking 15 min to moon when I saw them at Wembley in 91, don't need that on a double cd). In spite of that, the '91 show is still in my top 10 concerts ever, they made Wembley Arena feel like a club, the whole crowd were so into the show. I've seen many shows at Wembley and similar sized halls but no other artist has come close to that atmosphere, it was that special.
I still remember, really clearly, the day at my sixth form college when news of Bon's death came through....fellow rock fans walking round with black armbands. Personally, I've never come to terms with the replacement singer...Let There be Rock and Highway to Hell are by a country mile the best two AC-DC albums, imho.
OH! Steven (and Pete also...had to edit this after your choice. lol), I have zero problems with you choosing Blow Up Your Video as a least favorite, but not mentioning Two's Up as one of the best songs on that record hurt my soul.
Favourite albums: Powerage and Back In Black Least favourite: Fly On The Wall and Blow Up Your Video Wild cards: Highway To Hell and Flick Of The Switch Do check out the Australian version of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Much better than Atlantic's version
Thunderstruck was the fiirst Ac/Dc song I ever heard, at 9 years old when it came on MTV. Loved the guitar sound, wasn't sure about Johnson's voice, seemed over-the-top. Liked his hat.
I'm with Steven & Peter here. My two favourites are, and will always be, Highway To Hell and Back In Black. Back in the day, I had these on a C90 tape in the car and played them over and over. A perfect marriage of great songs brought to life by Mutt Lange's production magic. For Those About To Rock was the first album I bought, which I still have a lot of affection for, but it's a game of two halves in my opinion - first side is great but on side two the quality drops away. As for my two least favourites, I could pick anything from 1983 -2000 but would probly go with Ballbreaker & Blow Up Your Video. Brendan O'brien has recaptured some of the old magic on the last three albums. Black Ice for me is too long, so for my wildcard I'd go with Rock Or Bust, which in my opinion re-captures the groove that ran through the three Mutt Lange albums and is the natural successor to For Those About To Rock.
I thought you would start with the vast differences between pressings of the early albums. I thought Pete would be the only one with the international versions and the other 2 guys would be all about Albert originals. The international versions are the best, other than the messy leftovers of Jailbreak EP, but since they're an Australian band, the Albert versions are the go-to's. Same thing with Beatles and Stones - I go with the UK original versions. In America, there was a mall record chain that specialized in imports called Record World, they had the Albert versions a dollar cheaper than the American. I bought em new for 4.99 circa 81. I still need the Let There Be Rock with Crabsody in Blue. Should have bought duplicates cause those puppies go for over 100 now lol
2 favorite albums: Highway to Hell, Let There be Rock 2 least favorite albums: Stiff Upper Lip, Black Ice Wild card: For Those About to Rock (underrated album)
2 favourite albums :
1. Powerage
2. Highway To Hell
2 least favourite:
1. Blow Up Your Video
2. Who Made Who
Wildcard :
Flick Of The Switch
Hello Peter, Simon and Steven and greetings from Finland!
I think these are the best and worst albums for me.
Wildcard is definitely the most underrated album in the AC/DC catalog and I truly love the raw sound of it and the songs are so good, too! They might be the heaviest AC/DC ever made.
Take care and keep on doing these shows!
just to be contrarian, Blow Up Your Video is the first cassette I bought with my own money and holds a holy place in my heart and my collection! cheers
I have to agree with the flick of the switch call. It's a tonne of fun.
Nowhere near their worst. Middle of the pack album at the very least.
@@miaajaniss YEH it was a bit of a shock to me when I gave it a proper listen. As it normally gets lumped in as a dud. But as you said, it def sits comfortably in the mid-tier.
this is a real treat hearing the three of you talk about such a great band.love it
Thanks Thomas!
Good point Peter makes in never actually reaching for an AC/DC album. I happen to reach for the occasional album of theirs every now and again, but they all have one thing in common: Bon Scott.
i'm forever all the time reaching for more
Glad to see you do another video on AC/DC Pete! My favorite band ever since I was a little kid, this is a fairly hard list to make but there are ones that stand out over others.
Favorites:
Back in Black, Powerage & Let There Be Rock ( Had to pick the three, Highway To Hell almost made it 4. lol Hard to pick between those 4 for sure! )
Least favorites:
Stiff Upper Lip & Blow Up Your Video
Wildcard:
Power Up ( I was going to say Flick of the Switch or '74 Jailbreak but since they were picked, I'll pick the new album, lots of good songs on it, I was impressed when I heard it the first time. ) I can't really say I dislike any of there albums but some haven't aged as well as others.
Thanks Phil. Well said!
In Brazil, Back in Black was released with the B side as the A side and vice-versa. Nobody ever took notice of that until the release of BiB on CD (with Hells Bells as opener).I mean, the LP backcover had the tracklist in random order and the first title in it was Back in Black. My 2 favs Powerage and HIghway to Hell, 2 least favs Rock or Bust and Blow up (although I love Two's Up). Wildcard: Ballbreaker
I've got an Australian copy of Dynasty by Kiss with the track listing all over the place
@@deathtodigital4097Yup!! All versions (not just Australian) have the LP backcover tracklist in alphabetical order
Tremendous job by the trio once again. 🍻 Beers : laughing. And music 🎵 = grand slam HomeRUN on a Saturday afternoon. Thx guys 👍💯
Thanks Gary!
@@TranquilityFireReid Steven. Much enjoyed. Thx 👍💯
My 2 favorites however are 🥁
#1- Highway to Hell
#2- Powerage
2 great albums top to bottom, front to back, all killer no filler!!!
Least favorites Blow Up Your Video and Stiff Upper Lip
Wildcard: Flick of the Switch. An album of theirs that’s definitely been climbing up my ranking. Great show as always fellas.
A Motörhead show in the future maybe?
Favourites 1. Let There Be Rock 2. Highway To Hell
Least favourite 1. Ballbreaker 2. Stiff Upper Lip
Wild Card - If You Want Blood
Flick of the Switch is the best! And far underrated!
Powerage and Let there be Rock are my 2 favorites. If you want blood is probably the one I listen to most.Bon rules.
Great fun as ever chaps!
Favourites for me are "Highway to Hell" and "Back in Black" fond memories of attending a trendy student party back in the day and clearing the room by putting Highway to Hell on the turntable! 😁
Least favourites for me are probably "Stiff Upper Lip" and "Who Made Who" - haven't listened to either in years.
Wildcard for me would be "PWR/UP" a really enjoyable album.
Great stuff Jim!
On vacation in 1979 with family down in Wildwood NJ, my older cousin David (he was 20, me 11) tired of me playing KISS and Queen constantly, took me to the boardwalk
and won me Let There Be Rock on cassette and said "listen to these guys I think you'll dig it" and I was hooked!
Favorites:
1. Let There Be Rock
2. Highway To Hell
Least Favorites:
1. Fly On The Wall
2. Blow Up Your Video
Wild Card:
1. For Those About To Rock
This is going to be a very cool episode! I have no idea what anybody is going to pick!
After Peter with Martin Popoff, this is my favourite SOT format; but it’s the humour here that makes it. Lots of good cheer, warm jokes and Pete is an excellent host. There is genuine camaraderie here…
Thank you. Very much appreciated and I can assure you that these shows are a huge amount of fun to be a part of.
Yeah, I'm with you on Fly On The Wall and probably for the same reasons.
Incredible drum sound. Too much reverb on the vocals on some songs, though.
Fly on the wall is my favorite as well. Also sentimental for me 🍻
This is my band…..This is my life….i love them all….but perhaps i listen often to High Voltage, Let there be Rock, Powerage, Highway to Hell, Back in Black, Flick of the Switch, Black Ice and the New one Power Up…..
Thanks Sjhue, you must have impeccable taste! ;-)
@@TranquilityFireReid Ha yes I think I do!😀
Another great show.
(My friend Clive & I argued over this for weeks).
he made it out, but got shot down and died.
Hey Pete here’s an episode idea. Greatest songs that have to be heard alongside another song, for example whenever you hear The Song Remains the Same, it has to be followed by The Rain Song. I can think of a few others.
Favorite: Let there be rock
Second favorite: High Voltage
Least favorites: Rock or Bust and Power Up
Wildcard: Fly on the wall
Favorites - fly on the wall
74 jailbreak
Who made who
Powerage
Blow up your video
Back in black
For those about to rock...
High voltage
Least Favorites - various songs
Brian Johnson was once asked about a critic review: The critic said " Yep.. AC/DC's new album sounds like the last 21 albums!"
Too which Brian responded:
"That critc is fucked!..we have 22 albums that sound the same!!"
They are what they are: A blues based heavy metal band.
My Favorites
1) Highway to Hell
2) High Voltage
Least Favourites
1) Rock or Bust
2) Black Ice
Wild Card
1) For Those About to Rock
My Favorites: Highway To Hell, Dirty Deeds
My Least Favorites: Blow Up Your Video, Stiff Upper Lip
Wild Card: If You Want Blood (You Got IT)
If you want blood was my first introduction with AC/DC in 1979. I heard it from my friend's cassette. What an album!!
Another fun filled fifty minutes. Thanks guys.
2 favorites:
2. High Voltage, US version since it's the only one I've ever had
1. Powerage
AC/DC lost all their danger and most of their swagger when Bon died.
2 least favorites
2. Ballbreaker
1. Stiff Upper Lip
Both are decent album but I rarely pick them off the shelf. But that can be said about most of the Brian Johnson era albums.
Wildcard:
Bonfire box set
Play disc one on repeat and it could power every air conditioner in Texas for all eternity.
Nice to see the love for Michael Palace & Danny Vaughn! 🤘🤘
Where to start with one of the bands that started it for me, and were the first band I ever saw live, headlining at least...?
Well, my favourites I suppose, Powerage and Highway to Hell. Back in Black was runner up, I must say.
Least favourites, well, like all 3 of you, it could have been any two of that 90's era of 'Meh' releases, but I wrote down Blow Up Your Video and Ballbreaker before I listened, and I'll stick with those
Wildcard? Any of the live ones, maybe? I nearly went for Live From Atlantic Studios but I decided to do a Simon, cheat and pick 2. Their first, High Voltage, my Aussie vinyl with dog weeing on the generator, and their last, PowerUp, as its so damn good and doesn't outstay its welcome like Black Ice.
There, done. Thanks chaps, brilliant as usual...
This is my favorite show from Sea of Tranquility. Simon and Steven are a real gas.
Love this show, I am a real ale fan so always interested to see what the guys are drinking. Odd seeing Simon at the top of the screen though 😁
1. Highway to Hell
2. If you Want Blood
3. For Those About to Rock
4.Let there Be Rock
5. Back in Black
Hi Pete and Simon and Steven great fun as always, this is a band that l not heard from them for a long time,I have off the band wagon
Love this series... I love the cohosts...
My Two Favourites - Highway To Hell , Back In Black
Least Two Favourites - Stuff Upper Lip , Fly On The Wall
Wildcard - Powerage
Favourites are Powerage and Let There Be Rock, least favourites are Dirty Deeds and Ballbreaker. Got 2 wildcards, Flick of the Switch and Blow Up Your Video.
great show 👊😎 been a ac dc fan since 1976
BACK IN BLACK
LET THERE BE ROCK
ARE MY TOP 2
I agree with Steven about Flick Of The Switch being Back In Black take 3. Its the main reason people say all their songs sound the same.
Totally disagree. Flick is a defining album for ACDC and their last great album with Brian
Congratulations Simon on Burnley's victory over the Terriers - have to admit you thoroughly deserved it! Would love to here Pete pronounce Huddersfield...
Favorites: Flick of the Switch and Fly on the Wall
Least Favorites: Dirty Deeds and Rock or Bust
Thank you guys for the Succinct overview of the Legendary electric band! Jailbreak 74 and Blow up you Video are my picks for most favorite lol
Highway To Hell and Let There Be Rock are my 2 favourites. My least would be the newest 2, Rock Or Bust and Power Up. Wildcard favourites would be Powerage and For Those About To Rock.
Brilliant show once again.
Wow this is so sp hard for me I Need.a serious think aboit my picks but enjoyed the show as always guys just brilliant
I stopped buying after FTATR until Black
ice.
My wildcard is the radio 📻 broadcast from 1970s I grew up listening to those broadcast in middle and high school great memories
Favorite two: Back in Black, High Voltage
Least favorite two: Blow Up Your Video, Fly on the Wall
Wildcard: Power Up (not a popular opinion, I know, but I love this album)
I'm an old punker...and "Black In Black" is locked into my DNA...I was 14 and it was everywhere.. all the time.
It was ..and is ..a cornerstone record
Favs: DDDDC and Highway to Hell
Least Favs: Stiff Upper Lip & Ballbreaker
Wild card: For Those About to Rock...We Salute You
Favourites - Powerage and Highway To Hell Least favourites - Who Made Who and Stiff Upper Lip Wild Card - Black Ice
Hmm. Flick of the Switch was my entry point into AC/DC(bought it when it came out), so it's always been a favorite of mine as well as being my #1 favorite Brian Johnson sung album.
Two favorites:
Least:
1. Blow up Your Video - Way too many cheezball songs for me.
2. The Razors Edge - I could go forever without having to hear that gawdawful "Thunderbutt" song again.
Wildcard(s):
Who Made Who - I believe that this is the third AC/DC I bought.
2 Faves: Highway to Hell & Powerage
2 Least Faves: Ball Breaker & Fly on the Wall
Wild Card: Flick of the Switch
Favourite - Highway to Hell. It was the first studio album they released after I started listening to them... Forever a favourite. Closely followed by Let There be Rock which was the second album of theirs that I bought. I prefer the Australian version though either version is brilliant.
Least Favourite - Blow Up Your Video..... Ballbreaker... Stiff Upper Lip
Wildcard - The Australian version of Dirty Deeds or Flick of The Switch.
Least: Rock or Bust, Blow Up Your Video
Wild Card: Stiff Upper Lip
My favorites
1. Let There Be Rock
2. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
My Least faves
1. Rock Or Bust
2. Black Ice
Wildcard
Powerage
Yay! And then Boooo! 😂 Cheers Ian!
😆
My all time favorite band, would have to rank Back in Black and Highway to Hell as my two favourites. Blow Up Your Video and Stuff Upper Lip are their weakest. Wildcard would have to be 1992 Deluxe Live. This band live is everything. Man I love hearing the live versions of these amazing songs!
I'm probably one of the few people that prefers 'For Those About to Rock' over 'Back in Black.' Maybe it's cause the latter is overplayed to death and 'For Those About to Rock' sounds more fresh to my ears.
Favorites: 'Ballbreaker' and 'For Those About to Rock'
Least Favorites: 'Blow Up Your Video' and 'Rock or Bust'
Wildcard: 'AC/DC Live' or 'Black Ice'
Favourites = Flick of the Switch and Powerage. Least = Fly on the Wall and Ballbreaker
Nice, thanks! My favorites has always been For Those about To Rock & Dirty Deeds. In my opinion no weak albums at all. Well, maybe Who Made Who is little bit meh...
My introduction to AC/DC was If you want blood..... and saw them on the FTATR tour.
Top 2 are, Let there be Rock and Highway to Hell
Bottom 2 are, Blow up your video and Stiff upper lip
W/C is Back in Black
"Bonfire" is really the only release that had the outtakes. I think the only other ephemera is the live version of "T.N.T." that was the b-side (I think) of "For Those About to Rock, We Salute You" and "Big Gun" from the "Last Action Hero" soundtrack. "Big Gun" hasn't been on any official AC/DC album.
I forgot about Big Gun. It's kind Thunderstruck's little brother but very good and I like the Last Action Hero OST in general.
My two favourite AC/DC would be Flick Of The Switch and Back In Black.Rock Or Bust i have only played a couple of times and besides the title track For Those About To Rock disappoints for me.
1) powerage 2)let there be rock 3) highway to hell 4)flick of the switch
Favorites: Staying on party lines...Highway to Hell and Back in Black.
Least Favorites: Fly on the Wall and Ballbreaker
Ginger Wild Card: Flick of the Switch. This album gets a bad rap, but in my humble opinion, it's monumentally better than the albums on either side of it. There are a couple of stronger songs on For Those About To Rock, but FOTS is much more consistent to me.
Extra Wild Card: If You Want Blood; even if it's just for the version of Riff Raff on the record...holy crap...amazing.
.
(edit)
Hilarious...didn't think we'd be on the same page, Pete. Awesome.
Also, I quite like Black Ice and Power Up
Powerage was my introduction to this band. I would mention it more. Riff Raff, Sin City, Kicked in the Teeth, Gimme a Bullet...awesome guitar 🎸
Such funny and entertaining guys!
My favorites are:
Powerage and Let There Be Rock
Least favorite:
Fly On The Wall and Rock or Bust
Wild card: ?
Hey Pete, please listen all your (and yours) choices in the comments like you used to for us 24-7 workers that don't unfortunately have time to listen to all your episodes from beginning to end. Thanks man!
Too true Steven, gotta go with Highway and Back in Black, great call on Jailbreak that was truly the hidden gem in the catalog
for me powerage and highway to hell are the best, but i can't decide which one i like more
I love Some Sin For Nuthin' and Nick of Time.
Interesting comments, I too don't reach for their albums as often as I should.
My favourites studio albums are: Highway to Hell and Blow Up Your Video
Least favourites are Stiff Upper Lip and Rock or Bust
Wildcard would be Bonfire box that has some outtakes, a live show from 79 and oddly Back in Black.
I do. It’s nowhere as bad as some people say
Yup, I also felt this way. Two's Up is the best song on Blow Up Your Video. In fact, side 2 is better than 1.
Favourite albums: Powerage and Back In Black
Least favourite: Fly On The Wall and Blow Up Your Video
Wild cards: Highway To Hell and Flick Of The Switch
Do check out the Australian version of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Much better than Atlantic's version
Best two: 1. Powerage 2. Let there be rock. Worst two: 1. Fly on the wall 2. Blow up your video. Wildcard: Flick of the switch
2 favorite albums: Highway to Hell, Let There be Rock
2 least favorite albums: Stiff Upper Lip, Black Ice
Wild card: For Those About to Rock (underrated album)
