For those who don't love the graphics: you can go into the options and change it to a smoother, less crunchy look! I fully agree with Felix's praise here. This game is special, and you really have to experience it for yourself to see it.
medium is the right balance of crunchiness and clarity imo

That's great to know. Thanks. That was what was putting me off buying it. I just finished playing Alba: A Wildlife Adventure, and the graphics in that game are so beautiful that it was making this one look ugly in comparison.

I played this game for the first time recently. Did it all in about two sittings. An absolute gem. So relaxing, pure and entertaining, without much fat or necessary bulk. Plus the music is to die for - my only wish was that I played it sooner!

A Short Hike is a fantastic game filled with so much charm and just pure cozy vibes! I got the Collector's Edition from SuperRare and it's my most treasured special edition now, even though it was super expensive 😅
I never get collector's editions but this game was the one exception I was willing to make 😅
@@LevelWithUs I hope you like it then! I feel like every item has great quality and oozes with the same charm of the game (the guidebook is just *chef's kiss*). While I really like a few others in my collection, this one is a true treasure!

@@kalindivictoria2771 So for me it's the fact that every goodie that's part of it feels very thoughtful, and everything also feels very high-quality. Especially the latter part is unfortunately rarely seen for Limited/Collector's Editions 🥲
I'm glad this game is getting more recognition, it's a very nice game. The controls are extremely smooth too. Also you can change the graphics so the pixel filter isn't as chunky, which is how I played it. My only complaint is that when you're flying certain paths, the camera can snap to a completely different angle which is extremely disorientating. Play it!
Watching this is genuinely inspiring. Making games is the most challenging venture I've committed myself to and it's amazing to see a small game like this appreciated as much as it is.
Absolutely yes! This is one of my favorite indie games. I really wish there were more games like this.
Haven Park seems like it was inspired by this game. It's 8.99 USD on the eshop. I haven't played it yet, but I heard about it in another NintendoLife video and it looks pretty fun.
I originally got the game through weekly free Epic Games stuff, so when I heard they were releasing it to the switch, I bought it day-one. absolutely worth the money imo

When I first played this I already assumed it's gonna be one of those cozy indie games that are really fun to play, but I never thought it's gonna become one of my absolute favorite games of all time. I still don't know what made this game so special for me and different from the streak of good cozy indie games that have been coming out in the past few years. But something does make this game more special, even if I can't put my finger on it; and this review gets really close at explaining what that is.

That's what drives me crazy about Limited Run Games, Super Rare Games, and other similar companies. I hear about or play a really great indie, I want to buy a physical version, discover that there is one, but it's sold out. Sure there's people reselling them, but with the Messenger, for example, it's being sold for almost $400 on Amazon

I absolutely love this game, one of the few games I love to replay just cause of how short it is. You can take a new path, discover an area you missed, find something new when you believed you’d found everything. It’s great. As soon as Super Rare Games announced the the physical release I bought the collectors edition ASAP
Everything about this game is beautifully done. Played the digital version but can't wait to get my hands on a Physical Copy.
So glad to see you review this one, it is one of the best games I've ever played and an all-time favorite of mine. Charming graphics, beautiful atmosphere, and heartfelt story that I could explore at my own pace made me fall in love with the game.
I just love this game. I just wish it was longer... But no problem: sometimes I just like to play and fly a little bit. And what a perfect soundtrack

Glad I bought this game earlier this year. Really glad I was able to snag a physical copy as well. It's a very fulfilling game despite its small size.
Finished this a couple of weeks ago and still find myself thinking about it from time to time.
Recently got back into this game via my Steam Deck, it felt like I was visiting an old friend. There's something really nice about a game you aren't encouraged to rush.
I never finished it. Not bc I didn’t get into it but bc I started playing it when I was into toner games. But now I wanna return to it and complete it. Great review!!
Just found this game by coincidence; it's adorable, and I highly recommend it. The only thing I could complain about is the camera turning suddenly, but it's not too bad!
Making a game my self, just bought this. Maybe it will give me some nice "side quest" ideas for my own project, it seems they have a simmilar design philosphy to me. Thanks for the review, I was sold.
I'm not normally the type that enjoys review scores, because they are so arbitrary, and seem to invent their own rules per game, but perfect scores are a bit easier to understand, because it means that the game is basically flawless, and anyone who loves the genre should get it.
And I 100% agree! 10/10 was absolutely the right call here. Sure, the inventory system is clunky, but when you're actually *trying* to find nitpicks, a lower score is just an injustice!

Hi Felix, I haven’t long finished this game. It’s beautifully! I just played it on tablet mode because it just felt like those sort of games.
I just played it in one sitting as I couldn't put it down. Its beautiful and addictive! And now that I climbed that mountain, I'm still coming back to explore!!! Absolute gem, loved it a lot.

I just picked this up on sale (under 10USD) a few hours ago (Dec 16, 2023). It's very relaxing and unveilels organically.
I have my physical version but it's gonna remain unopened cause I already bought it digitally. Nice little gem of a game and I'm glad I could give the devs more money haha

Probably one of the greatest games ever made if only because of its simplicity.
I'm someone who loves to savor things. I even split the final episode of Stranger Things Season 4 into three viewings just so it would last longer. That said I fully recommend playing all of A Short Hike in one sitting. I spent the better part of a Sunday immersing myself in this world and unearthing every last secret. If I'd have the chance to play it for the first time I wouldn't have changed a thing. I've been playing video games for 26 years and this is easily one of the very best games I've ever played. An instant classic in my book.

This was a free giveaway on the Epic Games store. It is a fun, pleasant experience (while it lasts), but I can't imagine spending money on such a short, simple game, much less buying a physical copy.

Ive heard of the game for a while. But didnt expect how short it really is without doing a lot. But I liked my time with the game. It was calming and charming enough to buy. But at a discount though

A Short Hike is my absolute FAVOURITE Nintendo Switch indie game, and it is for sale for UNDER $5 right now! (No, I don't work for the game creator ;-)
My knee jerk reaction at the beginning of the review was that I didn't like the pixilated aesthetic. But as I watched on, I realized I was becoming nostalgic for my DS game library and it was then that I saw the appeal. 16but sprite work has scene a resurgence in the last ten years. Perhaps it's time to celebrate pixilated, low-resolution 3D games too.
Breath Of The Wild is my favorite game of all time, so naturally, I really liked this one. It’s one of the best experiences I’ve had gaming in quite a long time. The game’s brevity is part of that great experience, being inoffensvie with my time. For the developer, I think this game’s concept could be expanded upon further and I hope he does just that!
Il really enjoyed this game, I've played 24 hours on it ! ANd I only did it twice ! Honestly, I just spent a lot of time flying around, finding every sprout. And I agree about the music, it really enhanced the experience.

It's one of my favourite indie games. It's a really short game but it left an impression on me unlike any other game I have played
Edit: to everyone complaining about the visuals: you can choose between different filters in the options and there are filters that make it less "pixelated"

I just looked in my epic games library after like 8 months for no particular reason and saw this game. I knew its name and that it was really good so I was pleasantly surprised. I probably picked it up as one of the free games that epic gives out every week and thought nothing of it. I played it and oh boy it was good 10/10

The praise is well-deserved! I enjoyed playing the game. But I don't think the game has universal appeal - those like me looking for more clearly defined objectives and challenges might get bored with it fairly quickly.

Absolutely no excuse not to buy and finish this game. One of my games of the year. Super cheap and finishable in an afternoon, like a delicious treat that doesn't overstay it's welcome.
It really sucks that so many great switch games are almost impossible to get hard copies of.

This game is wonderful, but for all the praise it rightly receives, I don't think the game's dialogue gets enough recognition. The dialogue in A Short Hike is deceptively simple but so well written and realistic.
