Just keep on applying and interviewing until you get an offer. Even if you have an offer keep on applying and interviewing until you actually start. Also if you can get it... get the CCNA it a valuable certification and trump the CompTIA certifications. It will put you ahead. I graduated from WGU as well and I have 3 degrees from them. I work in software development as a Technical Scrum Master. I would also advise you to get an entry level agile certification (CSM, PSM). If you do not want to get them at least learn about agile frameworks because that is the direction most companies are heading.

I’m a WGU student BS IT that’s working as a cybersecurity analyst graduating in a few months. The advice I give in addition to those roles you apply to is to look for cybersecurity adjacent roles such has vulnerability analyst and vulnerability management. There is a lot of competition for security analyst, soc , analyst, cybersecurity analyst almost too much competition which is why I suggest looking at the adjacent roles because there isn’t as much competition.

Also the key sometimes to breaking in looking for industries and opportunities people forget to look or don’t want to look. Also it’s easier to get a hybrid or on site role than it is remote. Use the on-site and hybrid to pivot into a fully remote. I have personally witnessed companies try to recruit you with as little as 6 months to experience. So you won’t have to suffer long in a less than ideal situation

Google just launched their cybersecurity cert, I don't know how much weight that will have, but it says upon completion you get access to a 'Google Career Certificates Employer Consortium' exclusive job-application platform. That seems like it might be worth something especially since you might even be able to breeze right through it within the free trial week on Coursera with the knowledge you already have.
I'm looking into all this myself, haven't even started WGU yet. it's always tough hearing how people that already have the degree, some certs, and even a little IT experience for the resume, still have a hard time getting a gig. Good luck man

Hey man, a 2 out of say 150 application response rate will most definitely be because of your cv or application approach. Idk what the market is like in your field, but you should be aiming for at least a 10-20% response rate.
Just flinging out cv’s into the abyss doesnt work imo, your CV and cover letter should be specifically tailored to every job listing, and should only include things needed for the job. This is very tedious but it will produce results.
People say it’s a numbers game, but the employer will always pick the best looking option, you need to present yourself as the only option.
Also you should be reaching out to managers and businesses directly so you can get your cv in the hands of a real person. This is something i started doing while looking for internships during school, as internship listings are non existent.
Also, your careers centre at your school should have access to an ATS scanner that will tell you how good your cv is, so i would look into that.
    Hope some of this helps!

Wow, these are the exact same things I followed in order to secure myself a job. My college last semester was a internship(coop) semester, and I created my own job, by getting rejected from atleast 200 companies, that I decided, my resume and cover letter were not good. So I spend, at least a week, to fix them, and make a common enough template, which acts as base resume and base cover letter.
Then I started applying, for companies with customized resume and cover letter, fine tailored to what the job wants our of me.
I even applied for full time jobs, just for the heck of it. You know, increase your shots.
I got 6 interview calls, and I cleared 2 out of them. The company which paid me more, I choose that company, which was the full time job I applied. I negotiated my base pay to be that of full time software engineer. In terms of me and my friends, I was the highest paid internship student. But now I feel like I am getting dumb days by days, on working on a frontend and just working to make money for the business, while I could be doing something more good, like use my skills to make the world a better place. Not to sound like a cliche, but unlike a lot of people, I mean it.

    • @blakejonathan4505
      @blakejonathan4505 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Don’t apply to 100 jobs that is very inefficient because everyone else is doing the same thing. You need to look at some job descriptions and evaluate yourself and the experience you have so far, and even if you don’t have 3-5 years experience but out of everything they’re asking you can at least do 3 things still apply. You need to fix your resume in a way that connects with specific skills the company is looking for, also tailor your resume with specific keywords to bypass ATS cause most of the times it’s ATS software filtering applicants rather than a person.
Lastly create a Linkedin profile well made, look for tutorials on youtube how to make a good linkedin profile and create a custom message you can send recruiters after you apply for a position detailing your experience and skills and how they are relevant to the position you’re applying for.
I’m telling you from my experience, I had a crappy resume before and was doing the same thing everyone else was doing “simply applying.” I worked on all of these things I mentioned and completed more than 18 interviews before finding my current job and most of them I didn’t even have to apply.
Most of the times it was recruiters reaching out to me on Linkedin for phone screenings and thankfully a lot of those phone screenings turned into interviews with supervisors and hiring managers. Now its even more easy with AI like Chat GPT to tailor your resume and experience according to job descriptions. Focus on one specific segment of security like MSSPS and gain experience as support engineer and tailor your resume and profile accordingly, don’t just try to be a jack of all trades and master of none.

Hard to get an entry level job but yet there are thousands of IT jobs available. Go figure. And yes I understand alot of those jobs are not entry-level. But if there is such a demand for IT professionals, companies need to be willing to hire talented, motivated people who are willing to work hard at their jobs, even if they don't check every box in the recommended requirement list.

My favorite is when it's an entry level position but they expect a handful of years of experience in that positions. Like what? That's either unrealistic or they want employees who are content with being and staying entry level. It also communicates to new hires that they want to do little development in their career.
