Hey Phil! The thing I like about this little box is that it's a 1-item entry point into the hobby. Paints, brush, and an assembled mini, at a price point that is reasonable for a gift. The wizkids paint night kits and a few items from reaper are about the only things that compare. It looks like one more viable way to get new folks into painting minis :-) I'm looking forward to giving these a try myself!
Good all encompassing entry to the hobby, shame it was not ready for Christmas. Anyone looking to get into the hobby that do not already have assorted supplies I would probably put this in their hand. I hope other paint manufacturers, like Citadel, take note of what a proper starter box includes@@TheGlacialGeek
That box seems like a great entry point into trying those paints. Thanks for sharing, I plan on starting with the smaller box and then we will see what the future holds.
Thanks Phil. Having bought the Speed Paint 2.0 range. Not really looking to buy any more paints. HOWEVER, the hype around this new Fanatic range have made me reconsider. Honestly, the one paint in the starter set that I am most looking foward to trying out is the Brush on Primer!
This has me wanting to replace my paints. When I got into the hobby back in 2017 I started with the Army Painter set that had like 50 paints in it. Those are still going strong, but these look great.
I already own a lot of paint, so I’m intending to buy the starter set to try out some of the colours and see if they really are “all that”. Army Painter really do seem to have upped their game recently.
Can you do a comparison to other high pigmented paints like Kimera? Would love to see the difference 🙂 I hope they will release sets for the separate flexible triads. That to me looks like one of the biggest selling points and at the moment the only way to use them is to order the complete set (which is extremely risky). Hope they will release relevant sets soon after 🙂
I'll definitely try out some of their paints! I bought their old Mega Set a few years ago and used quite a bit for my Infinity models. If everything is only improving or staying the same, I can vouch for their blues looking *really* nice. :)
As a commission painter these look great. I dont think id go all in but from what ive seen, its only the full set that includes the triad system. The starter box and even the mega box does seem to have this per colour. That to me was the big selling point.
The difference in price between the three sets is staggering though (although justified content-wise). I think beginners would benefit more from getting the starter set and buying other colors one by one according to their needs.
I was one of the lucky folks to receive the x3 sampler. These paints are great, and I'll probably nab the complete set. I'm dying to know: HOW IS THE WHITE?
Excited for this range of paints. I'm hoping colours like white will have insane coverage too but I've not seen any videos with this colour so I'm still skeptical. Ty he orange, yellow and green look amazing from what I've seen. Hopefully this'll mean other paint brands will up their game
Dont take this the wrong way and I do appreciate you making a point of saying only us can really decide whether or not we need to buy this product, i think it in my opinion it really removes any potential bias in the video since AP gave you a review copy but i think that stuff is best covered near the ending of the video after showing the product itself because honestly chief, kinda zoned out and forgot what this whole video is about with that 7 minute intro there.
Love your enthusiasm, and loved the box reveal. Brilliant. 👍👍👍👍🤣🤣🤣🤣 Been toying with getting back into mini painting, and was wondering about the Army Painter Speed Paints Starter Sets. This is giving me second thoughts, it's kinda like my original Citadel Starter Set I got WAY back in the 90s! 😳😳😳😳
I will say that I do LOVE the SpeedPaints. They are very different and require a different mentality when using them compared to classic acrylics. But if you want acrylics, these Fanatics are awesome 😀
Just got into painting again after 20 years. I got the previous AP starter kit and then some Vallejo. Now I am eyeing the mega set as a good base to build upon onto. Anyone got any more tips i should think about upon starting my collection?
The Mega Set is a pretty good chunk of you already know you're interested in expanding your paint options! And then they are coming out with the Most Wanted set later that will compliment the Mega Set options
To replace my basic AP range I'm thinking of buying this starter set and expanding it with individual paints, instead of grabbing the massively more expensive medium set
How would these paints work together with the SpeedPaint range? I was wondering if they would work complementary in order to do some highlighting or painting large flat surfaces
The colors aren't color matched to the SpeedPaint range, but they will work with them like any acrylic paints do with the SpeedPaints for highlights or layering after they have dried! 😀
It's not vented outside, but I only spray acrylic paints through it. The biggest concern for me with those is the small paint particles the airbrush creates settling on the rest of my room, so the booth is to capture the excess spray. I wear a respirator when using it for any thing else there, but the hood is mostly to snag the excess spray with its filter.
@@TheGlacialGeek Thank you. Where does the end of the Exhaust go? just open on the floor? Your time is appreciated. I am thinking of a similar setup, with the Exhaust hose into a bucket with carbon filter pellets.
That would be a great idea! Most acrylic air paints are pretty decently safe to use without fume issues, just gotta be careful of the particulates mostly
I’m a Vallejo fan, I am very tempted with fanatic. This video has answered a question I have been asking. I will buy this or the one up from it just to see how good it is.
You can, but you will have to thin them down considerably. The Army Painter does have an Airpaints line that comes pre-thinned perfect for the airbrush of that's what you're specifically looking for! 😀
Please take note that this particular TH-camr is heavily affiliated with The Army Painter as part of their “Factory Team”. I don’t know details on the arrangement, but you can bet your ass that they are invested in this product and want to see it sell well. Check out independent reviews before pre-ordering.
I have an entire video on my channel talking about being on the Factory Team, I mention in this video that I have a working relationship with The Army Painter, and I mention that I received the paints for free. I also gave my personal opinion (which Army Painter doesn't own) and am up front and clear about the whole thing. It's also worth mentioning that every single person who has a review of the paints got them for free from the Army Painter at this point so they're not truly independent. But yeah, I recommend people look at TONS of reviews (especially from the thousands of non-content producer customers who got sent samples by the Army Painter!) before making a decision. I never claimed that mine is the end all be all, nor should it be! Not sure what kinda gotcha you're looking for with this, but you're missing your mark
@@TheGlacialGeek I haven't watched your other videos, only this one about the fanatic paints. I'm not missing any mark, nothing I have said is untrue. I just want people to be aware that a number of popular content creators are now affiliated with the army painter, and they are pushing the products hard. It's one thing getting paints for free and another being very involved/affiliated with the company. I agree, you are more up-front than the other 3 factory team members. I hope these paints are as amazing as people are making out, it will be great for the hobby. But I think everybody should approach it with a health does of scepticism before sinking potentially half a grand on a new range of paints. I've been burned exactly like this before, and I'm wary about hype trains. No offence intended, and I'm not trying for a gotcha, if you are open and honest as you say you are then my comment shouldn't offend you.

I’m definitely interested in buying the mega set, from what I’ve seen of people using them I think they will be invaluable to me

*Gasp*! The complete set! Gimme! .... Oh. XD
Dude, thanks for the heads up. Know what I’m buying next 👍
I haven't seen any videos comparing the existing regular Warpaints to the new fanatic paints. what's the improvement over the existing Warpaints
Would love to see those paints in action, maybe compred to other paint lines or older paints!

I'm looking forward to getting the complete set. I actually have projects I'm postponing til I get my hands on it.
Just a quick question.. do they have in the instructions for these to empty out some of the medium? i know on the original army painter stuff they did
Not for these!
To replace my basic AP range I'm thinking of buying this starter set and expanding it with individual paints, instead of grabbing the massively more expensive medium set

How are these for shake factor. I have not seen anyone talk about it

I don't normally post in comments, my question is, how does the new line of paints work when airbrushing with them?
I haven't tried that yet ... I usually stick to the Airpaints range since they're easier to use and I'm not a hugely experienced airbrusher
I’m a Vallejo fan, I am very tempted with fanatic. This video has answered a question I have been asking. I will buy this or the one up from it just to see how good it is.

Hey Phil, just wanted to ask if you've used the new metallics and in comparison to the current Army Painter metallics, how much better are they?
Did I hear that correctly? The complete set will cost 750 dollars? Holy shit! :D This might be the first time I wont be getting a complete box
Is there a discord for Army Painter?
I want it now
I’m curious so I will probably buy the smaller starter set.

Just imagine getting a good yellow…if they are so good as everyone say, I’ll give all my yellows away and get new ones..and orange..
I hope they didn't change their washes too much; I much prefer them to any other brand i've tried
The Wash formulation hasn’t changed. But new colours were added to round out the line a bit 😊

Comment to get you more samples to play with.
Doesmf ship until march 😅
Seems similar to proacryl
Ill wait until they send me some free paint
