Seriously?? Most of southamerican people hate it cos (and i quote dub studios in mexico and most of southamerica) the movie looks like a parody of a character that was showed as a the ideal hero for teenagers that live difficult lives and most of the countries are not ask dub studios to dub the movie (not even sub them) to show them in the movie theaters just for considering the movie as a big parody. And I'm not quoting movir critic pages from columbia, argentina, brasil and even venezuela about the low reception of this movie. Just for the record I'm not sayin is a bad movie but that will be a big black hole for sony in SA

At least Sony is learning from their mistakes; Spiderverse and the Mitchells were both incredible movies, and even Hotel Transylvania 3 and Angry Birds 2 were okay. We have Spiderverse 2 cooking in the oven, and even Hotel Transylvania 4 looks a bit promising. I never thought I'd be so excited to see what Sony does next.

I remember watching the movie. Such a good movie 😔
These guys came a LONG way. Direct to video sequels, live action Smurfs and Emoji Movie aside, these guys have always been making great experimental films. From the cartoony animation of Cloudy and Hotel T to the documentary style of Surf's Up, the team at Sony Animation always had some incredible talent on their hands.
But now they're REALLY starting to go full throttle with it ever since Spider Verse. The Mitchell's vs The Machines just came out and it's already getting the same amount of acclaim Spider Verse is getting, and rightfully so. It's a genuinely amazing movie with incredible animation, characters, story, and hilarious jokes. Their other movies this year (Wish Dragon, Hotel Transformamia, Vivo) are also looking pretty good.
If it weren't for that Sony hack and Emoji Movie, I don't think they would've had the exiting movies they have now, but because of those they're now becoming ambitious with what they want to do, making more experimental family films and even R RATED to PG-13 RATED movies! Two of which are directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (Fixed, Black Knight). They're even starting to get a diverse cast of people that work on the movies themselves such as Maggie Kang, an actual Korean female director working on a movie about the music of her culture (KPOP Demon Hunters), and Matthew A Cherry, a black director creating a TV series on modern black culture (Young Love) and a movie called Tut.
With all this being said, I think Sony Animation will inspire another golden age of animation that hopefully other studios will follow and I can't wait to see what happens next.

If Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was an apology from Sony, apology damn accepted
When I was a kid I loved Open Season... but I was 8 and very stupid so...
I don't really remember that movie too well, but Open Season doesn't seem too bad. Sure, the bear and deer's relationship are parallel to Donkey and Shrek (from the Shrek series) and the plot isn't revolutionary, but it's something I could sit there and say "hey, this is alright." The movie isn't too great, but not awful. Just mediocre.

Good movies die because Bad movies succeed.
You see, seeing the emoji movie, helps it. You may be one number, but if you're one number that can influence other numbers not to see it and just wait to pirate it online to see how bad it is. That makes a dent. You see currently, everyone is seeing it. And they're only seeing it, just to see how bad it is.
Rather you think "Oh I'm just one person what am I going to do if I stop watching this shit movie?" You're still showing support for garbage. Sony sees Dollar signs in place of Reputation. If the movie makes money, clearly it did something right!
That's what they think as a big company. Movie gets bashed online? "Oh well we still got their pocket change!" In the end you're just helping sony make more money. The only way to kill the studios current route would be to stop watching the newest movies in general and just drop the studios movies.
This is all my opinion though.

While the emoji movie isn't the absolute failure it deserves to be, the bad rep did hurt it.
Compare it to what Hotel Transylvania or The Smurfs grossed, it definitely is not doing very well.
Given what happened with Ghost Busters and now with this, hopefully the idiots at Sony pictures will finally get their heads out of their asses.
But the Emoji Movie is not just a case of supporting bad movies, it is also a case of not suppporting creativity.
We live in a time where the media industry, especially Hollywood, is not investing in new ideas, always investing in sequels, remakes, reboots and adaptations of popular stuff, instead of creating new stuff from scratch or adapting unknown stuff, and this happens because people keep going to see these movies.
People hated The Emoji Movie so much because it is the personification of the lack of creativity in Hollywood.

I'll be honest... I liked The Emoji movie, right because it had a cliché story and a decent-high animation.
I see why many don't like cliché story... But personally, I love them... watching the same thing repeated again in a different way each time... just splendid in its semplicity.
Anyway I don't say "just make all stories cliché" the cinema is good because there is variety... without bad there can't be good.
You want an old film? You can find it... there is a long list.
You want a funny trash film? Watch Sharknado.
You want a film with many explosion? Watch a movie by Michael Bay.
Do you want to see a movie that changed the plot of its original source? Look Death Note.

You wanna know why? Because people an be dumb enough collectively to pay absolutely no attention to a movie with great animation, writing, and consistency. Believe me, everyone is skeptical when it comes to original movies. That’s why they don’t take risks! It’s a cycle of unoriginality that the audience themselves wish for!
It’s all reciprocated through profit. The only movies they had financial success on were those four, so they’re going to milk it because that’s what the people LOVE. They love that garbage, no matter how many times people like us object to its aforementioned success and point out the major flaws! That’s why a lot of media in this world today is often based on old stories, rip offs and once successful box office hits from 20 years ago: because the audience doesn’t like taking risks watching random movies either.

Son'y in general's in a pretty bad spot this year. Alot of their movies have not done well at all aside from Spiderman homecoming, and even then they completely sabotaged themselves by putting it up against War for the planet of the apes.

Sony is pretty much a messy corporation who's been slowly sinking in red since 2009. With a current $25 billion debt. They no longer have actual Cash Flow and have only had modest Capital gains. But again, No equity or cash Flow.

So many TH-camrs and Movie reviewers went to the emoji movie "Just to see if it really was all that bad" Well of course it is, I don't know why anyone was surprised. But you're really just playing yourself, I know watching it Ironically or for review might be for fun, but when you have a corporate heavy industry like Sony that is responding only to where the money is coming in, Every TH-camr who was eager to review the movie is really just supporting the product. It did much better at the box office then it has any right to, Congratulations, we're responsible for the Fidget Spinner Movie in 2020.

In comparison to other companies, it is not as successful, as its biggest source income is a Chinese bank they own. I think a lot of TH-camrs approached the Emoji Movie wondering if it could do what the Lego Movie did...it didn't...

90% of Hotel Transylvania 2 was impressive. Just turn it off when Mel Gibson appears, because that's when the plot and themes go completely goes out the window.

The Hotel Transylvania Movies were probably my favorites. People seem to not like the second one because of the plot but I don't think it was that bad.
The Emoji Movie is what killed them. The Smurfs and unnecessary movies were bad decisions but most can still be enjoyable in some way. None were company destroying. The Emoji Movie however, was horrible.
