Highly recommend this mod. Did mine same way last year, great for being able to see what's going on at your feet as well as the tree line instead of picking one or the other. Edit: side bonus, you can use 37mm lens caps as storage covers.
I think this would help in an urban environment where its dark with patches of light, I do like the ability to turn down the harshness, to get better contrast and better detail. I'll figure out a reason why, but I am going to find a cheap bump helmet and an arm and a pvs14, and yes, the aperture. a useful addition to the anpvs14 for those nights I need to surreptitiously make my way through a dark house to get to my fridge...
This IRIS with a supergain tube sounds like it would be an amazing combination. I almost never use full gain on my supergain because it's just way to bright (gain of over 100k lol) but with that iros I could adjust it until I get a good clear image and then just turn the gain up to brighten it back to where I like it. I usually run the device at about 60-70% gain, so I have plenty of extra brightness to play with. It might not workout like that but I'm going to give it the Ole college try!
Not sure if i got a bunk Matbock or not but every vid i have watched of the DIY version its way better. I bought another 14 last night and i didnt buy a Matbock, i ordered the DIY stuff off Ebay, it was $193 less than the Matbock btw.
based on my experience with other Chinese “war belts”, they all look very similar. This one looks like it would probably be on par with the other budget belts Ive used. They work fine for most people, but I prefer a higher quality belt for serious use.
These irises were designed for photography cameras (making background and foreground both in focus), so I would think it would work with a digital video camera (which is what digital nvgs are). whether or not it will attach to your device is another question.
the Chinese ones are better. they are the same size as the objectives, closes to the daytime size hole, is aluminum housing with a polyglass lens. the best use of these is for up close physical work like taking things apart, putting them togther, general working under nv without having to flood an area with white light and going off nv.
I have always wanted one of these but I could not take Matbock seriously on their price for one From looking at their website and seeing that they sell $900 backpacks I don't see how anyone could take them seriously The Chinesium one I have now works just fine and if I break it or it gets scratched I won't care
Im in the process of trying to get either a Gen2+ or Gen 3 Bravo tube to compare to my nicer Gen 3s 👍 The cheap digital options lag makes them unusable, imo
Start researching omni 7 and omni 8 contract tubes they are mil surp no data sheet but they have min specs required for that contract you can look up and they are gen 3 tubes made by L3 harris and you can snag them for 1200 bucks all day . Housing for 800 and the. For 2k you have a milspec gen 3 PVS14 with L3 tube in it . Poor man price gucci parts .
Night vision you need to do tons of research before buying because you will settle for some gen 2 shitbox then find out you could have had way better for less money and be kicking yourself in the ass forever
@@jonsingleton203 agreed! yeah a see a lot of those for sale on FB groups. I hate buying luck of the draw though. Im spoiled by my WP elbits with 3000 FOM now though. But I would like a lower spec tube to see how much of a difference there really is.
@@poortac5568 if you can afford 3000 FOM WP l3s go for it but anyone on a budget looking at NMVT tubes or Jerry's or any gen 2 crap should know they can have good gen 3 milspec tubes cheaper . And min fom is 1600 that's not bad most are way higher that's just the contract minimum. Mine are super crisp and I don't need IR unless I'm inside of a sealed unlit structure any moon at all and I'm good
I just saved up for the image Intensifier-housing- and lenses separately over the course of a year. By knickel and diming i built a gen 3 pvs-14 with a clean tube for 2000
I did this...best pvs14 upgrade ever. Add 37mm lens cap for max protection.

agreed, the only downside i see is using in very low light 👍

😂 Yeah urban areas would be more useful. and night time snack runs 😎
Great video!! Just bought a couple of them. Can't wait to try them out
I like it quite a bit 👍
The iris kits are an awesome upgrade to your nvg i ordered mine through a builder on an fb group and they came with snap on protective covers
agreed, I see a lot if dual tube guys using them as well. Lens covers would be a nice addition as well 👍

I think it will work well as long as its not pitch black 👍

cold harbor supply makes these with polycarbonate lenses.
Interesting, thanks for the info 👍
They don't ship iris to the US anymore.
Anyone know if there are models for the wolf nl1 by chance ?
Do you think this would help with aiming through a red dot? I struggle focusing the red dot with my steel targets
I think it would help focus on your target 👍 but I think your red dot choice is more important. What red dot are you using?
@@poortac5568 an Eotech xps3. I’m using an Omni 7 tube that’s clean. I just can’t seem to get the correct focus. It’s been frustrating
@@paytonwoodruff3621 you need to focus on the target, not the reticle and it should look clear.
Have you tested the Aliexpress ronin senshi belt it looks like a really good clone?

Hey, Iam new to the night vision game, can anyone tell me if this adjustable aperture lens will work with digital night vision cameras??

I’m surprised no one else have copied these (like the chinese)
I assume these are Chinese. US made NVG specific ones cost 4 times as much.

Yeah, Id rather buy a couple extra cheap ones 👍
Hopefully we can get some poormans nvg sometime
