      It covers Laura Kuenssberg's time as political editor. She stepped down in 2022, hence the show ending with Truss.

    Imagine if Johnson had died. He would have been lauded for his 2019 smashing of the red wall. His place in history would be as one of the great winners, cut down in his prime. Yet now, having survived …..could the judgment of British political history be any worse?

    Interesting video to watch. One theme i have from this is the Conversatives have gone from remotely integral and at least believing what they are doing will benefit the country to incompetent advisors practically running the country, saving the party to now absolute imcompetent self-interest mess. The wind is definitely changing direction for 2024. I hope so anyway, any voter that believes this is what we need really needs their head looking into.

      I agree, and perversely, this is why The Tories are now the equivalent of the democrats in the USA. One party has a corrupt , racist paedophile (biden) (Google Ashley bidens diary if you aren't aware,) and the other is seen as the "change" candidate, (trump). I totally agree with you on this, and I think it shows, we need our own version or trump, (an honest asshole) and not starmer or sunak. Exactly.

The same smashing of constitutional convention, the same chaotic style of government, the same contemptuous disregard for the common good. Let's hope they can be drawn back from this destructive path for the good of liberal democracy everywhere.

    From 2010 upto 2023, that is over a period of 13 years approximately Great Britain has 5 Prime Ministers. Within a few months there would be a General Election for the British Isles. Well as someone who is not a Briton only someone who had received education in the United Kingdom from 1980 upto 1985, I am following the developments happening in Great Britain. I do hope and I sincerely hope things happen in a goodly manner there.

    We should get one thing straight, Johnson did not win with a huge majority from the point of popularity, he won it because the alternative, a Corbyn government, was totally unacceptable to the electorate. If Donald Duck were to have led the Conservative Party against Corbyn, we would have had a duck running around Downing Street and the duck would have been more effective than Johnson. What is totally unacceptable is the Conservative Party membership and MP's who allowed Boris "chaos" Johnson to remain in Downing Street for so long, then gave us Truss followed by Sunak. The chaos goes on!

    The whole series would be more believable, if Kuenssberg herself -- and the organisation she worked for -- hadn't been a key part of stirring up the chaos. The BBC's entirely one-sided campaign of misinformation crippled any hope of a unified and coherent strategy from the UK. This entailed everything from accentuating splits and disagreements where these had not previously existed, to reporting EU press releases uncritically while casting the UK's often quite reasonable objections as 'unreasonable' or 'unworkable'. Every debate and discussion was set up to favour EU-sided arguments, individuals, and perspectives, over a period exceeding 5 years. It was a historic disservice to the nation, which saw the BBC's share of public viewership gradually ebb away, and was wholly responsible for the now-widespread view that the license fee is no longer tenable.
    A more interesting programme would consequently be one looking into how major figures in the media -- particularly the establishment media -- lost their heads after the referendum, and the steps they took to undermine, misrepresent, and back-stab the public and their democratically elected representatives.

    • @currywuss
      @currywuss ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The BBC tried to be neutral, and the fact that both leavers and rejoiners think that they were biased towards the other side suggests they succeeded. But they should not have done so. To quote Emily Maitlis: “It might take our producers five minutes to find 60 economists who feared Brexit and five hours to find a sole voice who espoused it.
      “But by the time we went on air we simply had one of each; we presented this unequal effort to our audience as balance. It wasn’t.”

    Multi-culturalism is all good untill it threatens your own culture. We have been fed the liberal ideal of multi-culturalism since the 1960's, so one can understand the disillusionment. Here in South Africa we also thought Mandela magic would build a great multi-cultural country & prosperous society at peace... we have similar problems, but in reverse. Almost every advert on TV & Social Media still sells that ideal, we hope to get the balance one day, for now our only protection is a strong constitution, we pray it never gets captured.
