I have a similar car and will be rooting for yours. Mine has 1990 plates on it, so I hear where you are coming from. It has been about 30 years since I started it. It is a 440, but it is not the numbers matching engine. It died and I took it apart and found it needed a new timing set (slipped a couple of gears) , cam and lifters ( some nearly flat lobes) and a valve job, and the cross over exhaust valve was jammed shut and the intake exhaust crossover was nearly blocked with soot. After I did the parts swapping , it ran, but oil pressure was just mediocre. So, it was still a tired short block. And by then I already switched to a different daily driver. So, it "ran when parked"... I have the same bench seat interior down to the colors that yours had. That is the base interior, the one you get without the decor package. Your rear seat is in a lot better condition than mine. If you buy a new headliner, consider getting one for 6 bows. They look better than the one for 4 bows. Once you see the difference, you can't unsee it. I hope you can rub the primer spots off where there is still brown paint underneath and use touch up brown paint for the places where the brown paint is gone. It has been a long time since I had a car that had good paint, but I think some wax after the polishing helped a lot in the past. I don't understand what you are saying about buying the lacquer paint only from California. I live in Ca and it is always the place where you can't buy any good products, just politically correct bad products. Can you tell me which paint you bought? Also, I would be looking for acrylic enamel. That was the good stuff. I bought a 69 GTX about the time you bought your Road Runner. It was all "kitsched up" as I call it now. By a previous owner. Big "Plymouth Decals that looked like the came off a Superbird, jacked up in the back with air shocks and shackles, tires that were on reverse wheels that that made them stick out past the fender and would rub if you tried to get it back to stock height. You used to always see cars that were not fast covered with racing decals that you could get free at hot rod shops like Gratiot Auto Supply.. If it were my car, besides making the paint all brown, I would get some 15 inch Mopar Rallye wheels, preferably original, no repros. Oh, I had a pair of 15x7 Keystone Klassics on the back and I had to retorque the lug nuts once a day when I used it for commuting. The factory steering wheel, if you still have it, has a spot for a Road Runner bird head and the words "Beep Beep" and the one with the decor package does also. I personally prefer the factory exhaust tips, but my current car doesn't have them since they were unavailable in California from 70-72 440 GTX's and Road Runners. So I have the rear valance that you have , the one with no half circle cut outs for the tips. If you want to get rid of your Challenger tips, I would put them on my 71 Sport Fury since Sport Fury GT's had a version of them on 70 cars. I don't think there is any better looking tie than the Goodyear Polyglas GT. But my Pro Tracs that that the Kitsch car had were far better in wet and dry and any radial would be better yet. I don't know if you still have a small block 727 trans, but I would consider using a 340 or making a 360 that looks like a 340 since 340's are cool and different in 71-73 B bodies. I had an under dash Pioneer Super Tuner with a pair of 6x9 Jensen Triaxials for sound back in 1978. I'm sure you remember that "Pioneer Super Tuner with Jensen Triaxials" was considered the ideal back then. All those speakers are dry rotted, but I bought a couple of grills for my Charger that does not have the perforations in the rear shelf because the grills are so great.
Love this car and it's story, far more beautiful and interesting than any mint cond. car or something that has been restored. Glad you hung onto it all these years. I subscribed for the ride!
Love it! … It’s rare indeed - especially that 1-year-only ‘72 RR grill! Looking forward to seeing the progress and getting her back tearing up the streets.
@@Roosters_RestosHa! I know what you mean my friend. You got lots of cool stuff and my hats off to you! Too bad time sure does fly by, but who knows, maybe we’ll be parked side by side some day.
You are one priveliged man to have known Ronnie Sox. Good for you. Oh yeah, nice car. Looks good as is. Patina.😊 You should have been the one to show DDG 4 speed tricks.
Jamie and I talk all the time and he is a very smart kid. I was blessed to have ronny as a teacher. Got to meet Diane his wife once and buddy Martin too. Met dick landy as well. 40yrs has passed since then and dick and ronny have passed on. But they will never be forgotten.
@@Roosters_Restos damn, got you by 3 years. Saw them at Connecticut dragway about the same time. Tasca's mustang I think was mystery 11. Not sure. All of em. Ivo,Garlits, Ramchargers. Colchester was big time back then. Miss those days.
