American Visits Banda Aceh (See how he is welcomed...)

  • In this video, I pick up where I left off in the previous video at the Tsunami Museum in Banda Aceh.
When I arrived though it was closed for the prayer call. So I had a couple hours to kill so I decided to walk around the park across the street and see what all it had to offer.
In the park, there were tons of students out enjoying the beautiful day and playing a bunch of different sports. The park had a pretty awesome basketball court and it was there that I met some friendly kids from a local school playing futsal and basketball.
One of the students, Rafi, spoke excellent English and was not shy to practice using his English. I taught him how to play the basketball game HORSE (we actually played PIG) and their teacher invited me to their school. They invited me to come to check out their school so I walked back with all of them through the city back to their Junior High School.
After I left the school, I enjoyed a coconut and ate some delicious mie ayam on the side of the road.
Finally, it was 2 o'clock and the Tsunami Museum was open...
After the museum, I made my way to the ocean and along the way, I found one of the cemeteries for the victims of the tsunami.

FYI, one of the founder of TH-cam, Jawed Karim, he heard about the tsunami in Asia, he looked for the video in the internet to no avail. So, he decided to make a media to share videos and accessible by people from around the world, together with Steve Chen and Chad Hurley, the media is called TH-cam, the one you're viewing right now.

Hearing the child mention Ronaldo, I remembered something that Cristiano Ronaldo had an adopted son from aceh Indonesia named Martunis, Cristiano Ronaldo raised Martunis as his son after being a victim of the earthquake and tsunami in Aceh on December 26 2004, now he is married and has children & Martunis is still good relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, maybe for the full story I can't explain Mr. Nick, but I hope this can be one of the stories that you might be able to remember when other people ask about Aceh.

The nice and exceptional thing about your videos is that each time I learn something new that I didn't know before. I like it when you add an old photo or a quote to illustrate something. This is different than others and makes you your own. Like the movie in de episode with the big fish and former president Sukarno’s house at Lake Toba. I think it’s your teaching skills that makes the difference. Thank you for sharing the story of the tsunami. Good comment about paying respect in the museum. Keep up the good spirit.

Speaking about the question you asked at 29:37 regarding on where the grave actually is, well…. Below that grass you see in that whole area with green fence are buried thousands of dead bodies. Piles on top of each other. It was an open grave dug by mining excavator, and close by that heavy machine as well.
    Insane, right? ☹️☹️☹️☹️
But it is what it is.
It was indeed a devastating time for us Acehnese and we are thankful for the world to taking care of us during that bitter moment. Including from your USAID. Thank you.

It is truly sad how not only in Indonesia, but also here in Germany for example people have become so narcissistic and egocentric.. All the best to you and safe travels!

It maybe unbelievable but I'm one of the survivor of 2004 tsunami, the video reenactment was hitting my mind to kind of remembering again the event of the disaster the situation and also remembering again that i has lost my parent in the event...
Its been hard, unimaginable, the effort all the countries that help the relief is so good, thanks for the help...
Now I've been migrated to other place, and kinda miss the lively peaceful city of banda Aceh...
I can say its safer there, its safest place in Indonesia I could say, and the culture is strong, so respect the culture...

Many video creators, bules or locals, had visit the tsunami museum, either it's a cinematic kind of videos or just casual vlogs like this. And i'm always cry or shed a tear a little when i saw that majestic museum. I bet i'll bawl my eyes out like a baby if i ever visit the museum
