I see a lot of good ideas here, I think personally I'd swap out the hunter's neutral special to be the gun, with down special being the change stance input. And to replace blood vials, I'd attempt to emulate the rally mechanic in bloodborne.
Oh wow, like if you damage someone immediately after you are damaged you recover some health... can't believe I didnt even think of that. that would be pretty sick.

Sounds like a really good idea. I would just change the estus from healing a set amount to a certain percentage of damage , let's say you took 100% it heals like 20% of the damage or something like that so that you have to think it's more worth to use it at mid percents to get out of any harm or wait till higher percents to get more healing.
Yeah that could work, at 500% damage, healing would be worthless, but making it a percentage almost adds a risk reward system of waiting until high damage to get the most out of your charges!
