  • Cactus grafting is one of the ways to propagate cacti in a vegetative way, by combining parts of several plants. The lower part of the cactus, which has a stem and a developed root system, is called a rootstock. Cactus that is grafted onto it is called a scion. As a rootstock, a plant is used that easily tolerates temperature changes, insufficient lighting, improper watering, and so on. And also the rootstock should be actively growing, it is very important. In this video we are talking about how to graft a cactus at home conditions.

    I love to doing this. In my garden, i like to using cereus peruvianus as a rootstock. Much better than hylocereus.
    The rootstock on your video is rare in Indonesia.
    Thanks for sharing 😁

      I've never used peruvianus, I had always good results with myrtillocactus. Still peruvianus stock were not reccomanded to me by many cactus growers. Hylocereus is good if you live in a warm weather but in my place it always fail in winter season, even inside the greenhouse

    I tried grafting a cactus once, and succeeded. A tiny Rebutia seedling on Pereskiopsis stock. Definitely more fiddly than what was shown here, but worth it considering how rapidly the seedling grew afterwards.

    I've got a cactus that I bought grafted but it has had so many babies all in a ball that the rootstock was so small for this and has died. Should I attempt to graft the whole family onto a big root stock or break it up? the only other problem is I only have a few root stocks with roots. Thanks for your help

    Thanks for the nice video. I have two questions:
    1. The red, orange, yellow scions do not have chlorophyll so they feed on green cacti, where do they originate?;
    2. You are seen grafting green scion also, does it also fall in same category of red, orange and yellow etc. or it is just to make an addition to your garden?

    How long do you graft a cactus for before removing the elastic bands? And can you please tell me what this is I went to graft a ball cactus that was slightly tapered from the bottom of it and very loose in its pot ,so I repoted it, and is sitting a lot tighter now but after a while I went to graft it on to another fine spikey column cactus,, but when it was sliced or cut I had noticed that white spots arrived on the part that was cut,, everything was sterilised before had , is this normal was it sap or infection ? Thank you for any information.

      I'm new to cactus growing, but I read it has to be the same/similar species to accept the graft, much like in humans, so no, the sempervivum is in a different family of succulents
