    It’s time we talked.
    So much of what we teach here at Pianote is about learning new things and having fun at the piano.
    That’s important, but there’s a more serious issue that we need to address.
    Mistakes.
    Everybody makes them. It’s how you address and fix them that determine how quickly you will improve as a piano player.
    The worst mistakes anyone can make are the same ones. That means you’re forming bad habits, and if that’s the case, it’s even harder to correct.
    A quick note -- I am talking about PRACTICE here. Not PERFORMANCE. This is a big difference between the two.
    Remember, your practice time is NOT a performance. That’s the time to correct things and get better. If you make a mistake while performing, I recommend you DO keep going as best you can.
    Here are some steps you can take to make sure you’re not always making the same mistakes over and over again:
    - Step #1 - Stop and fix it - 0:19
    - Step #2 - Back it up - 1:32
    - Step #3 - Check your fingering - 2:20
    - Sep #4 - Don’t start at the beginning - 2:56
    Check out Cassi's lesson on fingering to help you find the best fingering for you:
    • Finding Your Fingering...
    Remember, mistakes are something you should learn from. Don't be afraid to make them, it's how you get better.
    But don't keep making the same ones again and again.
    If you'd like some FREE lessons to help you get started on the piano check out this series:

    Great tips! I hear OVER AND OVER "don't start at the beginning of the piece"... and I'm finding it's true. Start at the measure before you tend to have issues, and play that over, and over, and over. It works for me. Great stuff, thanks for the tips.

    many years ago taking lessons playing sheet music, the instructor would make me start all over every time I made a mistake...I never understood it and it was frustrating/upsetting...then he told me, "if you don't, you will learn to play with mistakes"...ahhh, it was a lightbulb moment and will never forget...not playing yet but I enjoy your videos...thx

    As someone that's trying to learn the piano at the moment - and just released my first video of practicing Alan Walker's Faded for 12 hours - I've come to notice that what you're saying here is indeed the best way! Near the end of all the practice, I started doing this all the time.. Going back a bar, and practicing the parts that I mess up on. Thank you so much for this. Happy 2020. :)

    I have a question: do you really get better from practicing songs? Because I feel like I'll only memorise those specific songs and won't be able to do anything else...
    Shouldn't I be trying to recognise and apply the different sounds?

    Hi Lisa once again is is I have a question about how do you play with one hand i'm can you do a tutorial towards that I love playing a piano but it does not sound like yours when you play with two hands

    • @PianoteOfficial
      @PianoteOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, yes. Coordinating the hands takes time. I say the best way to improve this area is to play lots of songs. I use chord charts and start very simple.. then when I get confident I begin to add in more! More lessons on this to come soon!

    I know this one piece and one of the measures has a quarter note triplet in it and i don't know how to play/practice that ... it's always wrong.

    • @MinerDiner
      @MinerDiner 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Something that can help with this is a simple word: "Chocolate". Three syllables, sound them at as if in a quarter note triplet - "Cho-Co-Late, Cho-Co-Late". Try doing it with a metronome as well. Let's say you're having trouble with the triplet in 4/4, to practice it, say "cho-co-late" aloud many times, in rhythm with the metronome, and the triplet should always start on the first beat and third beat of each measure. If you're getting the hang of that, try doing it with a single note on the piano, over and over with a metronome. If you can get that, then you should be able to play the triplet with the notes in the piece. I hope this can help, but it is kind of hard to explain how to really do it without a video alongside (well, with my explanation skills, I'm sure someone else could probably do a lot better)
