Oh...I also have a similar question. My guess is that "honeycomb" blocks pattern is sturdier and is used in lower spot because of it. And also harder to make, so used only where the shape matters. But it is far from my area of expertese, just a guess.
It is explained in the video that the hex blocks are installed in a lower stress area because of material and cost savings. At one end of the project it appears that old, natural stone is left in place. I like its appearance bettern than the cast products but the strength is much lower. @@W4iteFlame
These blocks appear to be light expanded clay aggregate (Leca) ... not so durable as concrete. The cost difference is probably marginal compared to the entire project. But I'm not responsible for the design there... and that's a good thing 🙂 . The beauty of the end result is also in the eyes of the beholder.

If only California could learn from you. They ( California) are always complaining about hillside collapse, flooding, etc but do so little about it, and the home owners are wealthy and can afford the engineering that is needed to safeguard things long term.

dont get me wrong, i'm glad that this project is bringing aid to the villages in the area. however, it may be a very modern design, but it lacks the creativity of the original canal walls its replacing. the old quays were beautiful and nostalgic, and the new ones just look stale and uninspired. just like the rest of the modern world and its stale "modern architecture". king charles may be a questionable new king for great britain, but he did get one thing right. poundbury town. building an entire town from scratch on his own pocket, the old architecture is stunningly more beautiful than the new architecture, people dont travel the world as tourists to see fugly looking concrete forest cityscape architecture that has so much glass that looking at one at just the wrong time can leave you blind, they go to beautiful, picturesque, nostalgic, historical, artistic, and creative architecture from the past. and with the construction of poundbury town. everyone thought it would meet the same fate as china's ghost cities, building an urbanized area with nothing to really entice people to gravitate towards living there other than just because it looks old fashioned. and surprise surpise, the town was full of immigrants in no time. not only that but the town became a destination that attracted a lot of tourists from around the world.
Given how advanced japan has become in dealing with subduing nature, I think we here in the west can take a few notes and learn ourselves how to imporve the same appraoches we have on the subject. China is loosing the battle against nature, they did not prepare for the floods God would heap upon them. No underground infrastructures at all, and the ones they did to are already to little too late. Whole villages washed away. Thanks be to God he whispered into the ears of those building the United States and the forefathers had the foresight to build the culverts and underground infrastructure to carry away the mud and water from our large cities. I know this will always be a work in progress but, i think we are all on the right track.
Ребята молодцы! Но что-то мне кажется, что толку от этих палочек из арматуры, которую они назвали железобетоном - никакого. Они же не связаны между собой. Только слои бетона, которые заливаются в разное время, фиксируют между собой от сдвига. Хоть бы сетку кладочную туда вертикально поставили - уже лучше было бы. А так это обычный бетон, который не воспринимает усилие на сдвиг и растяжение. И точно также все это развалится при следующем землетрясении.

In Germany too. They would work on 10 different projects at once because your boss has to accept every Project. Too many projects and too few workers.

間もなく自分の人生は終わると思うが、街を設計する人や工事の予算を出せる人になりたかった。自分の人生に不満があったわけでない。お城の石垣などが綺麗なところもあるがこのような動画を見せてもらって日本が時代にそった部材で綺麗になっていくさまも見てて楽しい。願わくば次に設計する時は川底の壁面に小魚などが入り込めるような隙間を設けてほしいな。
