They have the "instinct" series or whatever now, and I HATE that grippy polyurethane soft handle garbage. It picks up dirt, it wears off, its hard to clean - it's junk. But they have a hard handle impact now, and by all accounts it's everything the old hard handles are and then some. I still love the old hard handles. That material is indestructible, it cleans easy, feels great in the hand - and the blades ... you cannot strip or bend those blades. You can snap one off using it as a prybar - but they'll stick another blade in it for you. Anyway - I'm torn between the newer hard handles, and the ones I grew to love. The sets are a little different - they used to come with stubbys similar to the new style sets, and they don't anymore. I don't use the big flathead anyway so I'll probably get the new style hard handles. A little cheaper too for some reason.
I just bought a vessel ball grip screwdriver with 3 changable blades with it and I love it. I'll definatly be buying more vessel screwdrivers in the future.
My girlfriend bought these for me as a Christmas present today. I am an industrial maintenance mechanic and own mostly Icon tools. I have been using Milwaukee screwdrivers and hated not having a case. My impression was wow the handles are huge. Take up a lot of palm space. A lot of times, im trying to do three things with one hand, like balance a part, hold a hose off to the side while turning the fasteners, and these seem bulky. On the other hand, they seem solid and work worthy. Definitely will keep my other drivers, but this will be a beautiful addition to my top drawer.
Vessel screwdrivers are awesome. All mechanics should have them, especially if you work on asian cars. You will strip out screws if you dont have JIS screwdrivers.
As a mechanic I have a Husky and Craftsman screwdriver with the removable hex bits. Love them both. If it won't fit with one of those then my HF set is my go to or my grandfather's hand-me-downs, might see about the Icons next time I go in
Hello again Little Brother You know I 've been watching the TH-cam channel for maybe a year or two at the best. So a lot of comments on how a tool feels is pretty new to me. To hear about. I've always been about getting the job done. I have set of Popular Mechanic Screwdrivers eight piece set that I bought at Walmart. Maybe twenty plus years ago. For ten dollars, I bought them for two things 1) I needed a set to match a minimum tool list. 2) The Phillip screwdrivers tips had the anti-slip teeth. I have never broken one or bent one. I think, I have abused these screwdrivers as we all have. The 3rd reason would be the cost of ten dollars versus what ever Sears or the Tool Trucks would charge. I couldn't have afforded a high price set then or now. Thank you again Little Brother for a Great Video and your thoughts are invaluable !!!!
On second thought, Sears always had a demonstrator tool setup, where you got the chance to use the tool. Case in point, the Gearwrench Double x pliers comes to mind. I wanted to buy them, But I couldn't afford the price. Sorry, I don't remember how much. I still don't own a set yet. Could I use them, yes. I think you get the point.
I own a number of screwdriver sets. Most are German, but I also have a set of Craftsman Pro, a single SO PH2, some other European assorted singles, and a Tekton 4-piece set. I mention Tekton, as the fastener fit with their PH2 is excellent for almost no money. Pretty impressive. FWIW, I'd like to buy an Icon mini pick set.
Thanks for a very informative video, keep them coming I always learn something new. In my opinion the new Snap-on screw drivers are not as good as the old ones. I like the Icon screw drivers.
I have many different brands of screwdrivers; Klein, Felo, older Snap On (solid black or red narrow handle) Mac, Whia, standard US Craftsman, Stanley Workmaster, Wera and others. As you point out, a lot depends on how it feels in your hand and how tough the tip/shaft are. Surprisingly, for me at least, my old Stanley Workmaster most of which are close to 40 years old, have held up the best and I have most of my original set left. I buy more of them if they were still being made today.
I have had the gearwrench set for awhile love them i normally don't use screw drivers often unless there needed i normally use pry bars over flat head screw drivers @Redemption Garage
Back when I was turning wrenches for a living, I owned a lot of Snap-On tools. I liked the design of the screwdrivers, but the tips had a bad habit of shattering. I eventually settled on Mac screwdrivers. The handle design wasn't as nice, but the metallurgy was better. Nowadays, I'm more of a Tekton fanboy. Good quality, without the tool truck prices. Icon tools are nice too.
I personally did not care for the handle on the Icon’s, which isn’t surprising because I don’t like the handle on the Snap On. My favorite screwdriver handles are the Gearwrench and MAC/Proto Duratek’s.
Fee They are close to the same but when it comes to ratchets and sockets I’d say Gearwrench for sure. Screwdrivers can’t speak on but whatever is easier for you to warranty I’d say
I wish you’d compare all the Milwaukee hand tools vs these pro competitors. They want so much money for them but they seem more like consumer/“prosumer” designs not pro designs.
the tekton ones are pretty nice despite being kind of ugly. I would get a different brand for the stubbies because the tektons are a little taller than average
I just keep a set of Lennox demo screwdrivers in my box. When I wanna bang on a screwdriver or use one as a pry bar I reach for those lol. They are like 10 bucks for a pair at lowes and are actually very good drivers. And they save my Klein and Snap on screwdrivers from abuse.
I have Witte (branded matco) and wiha Torx I just ordered. I almost got the snap on screwdrivers but figured I’d go with German made just simply because I got them cheaper lol
I just wish I could find the ICON screwdrivers at a Harbor Freight. I've been to 3 different stores and they don't even have a space on their shelf where they would be. I talked to a HF employee stocking shelves, and she's never even seen them.
ViperMods_216 the reason could be warranty. HF you can walk into a store and swap, amazon doesn’t warranty the products sold (had an issue with lifetime craftsman. Amazon said go to the manufacturer, the manufacturer said go to the retailer. Last time I buy them). Now I would prefer the SK but I’m a DIYer and won’t be in a position where I need the screwdriver right now, and if I was I have others; but that could be the reason for people.
ViperMods_216 again I would personally go with the SK in your scenario, hell my screwdrivers are the Williams; but that is a reason I could see someone going HF over amazon.
@@Jtels85 a rep from sk informed me the replacement company to WF has already produced the same quality for them before the decision was made. They wouldn't divulge who the new company is though.
Craftsman, I have my original set made in the USA they're nice and sturdy, the metal isn't bendable, I saw the set at ACE the other day, bought it, they are nothing close to the USA stuff, you can literally bend the metal, not good theylle hold up but not like the only ones
If you're wearing a latex glove, and you get a little oil on it and wipe it off - it'll stick to a hard handle screwdriver like nobodys business. Or an oil filter - same thing.
1st I knew you'd like the handle on the ICONs. They are nice, just not for me. I dont care for the handle. I prefer the Matco, Monster Mobile or the new style Craftsman from Sears.

What new tools do you want to see reviews on in the near future?
If your able, I'd like to see the new composite Earthquake impact, once its available.
I wanna see the long handle double box end wrenches brother.
Vessel screw drivers, air hammers, & sunex wrenches.
Oxy/acetylene torch kits. Are cheaper knockoff kits as reliable and rebuildable as name brand kits?
Gearwrench s shape ratchet wrenches
Honestly like the hard handle “classic” Snap-on screw drivers the best of all.

The fitment of the snap on instinc is on par. Snap on screwdrivers shafts are more robust. I would grab the icons for home use. The handles are nice
Nice work Brian..I like my Tekton screwdriver set... but those ICON drivers are definitely worth looking at...

Good video Brian. I am Electrical-Mech. I agree it's how it feels in your hand. I am using the Wera brand right now. Broke into the trade using Klein.
I have the large set of Quinn screw drivers they have worked well for me they are kind small and light though @Redemption Garage
Interesting how close they are to the snap on
I have had the gearwrench set for awhile love them i normally don't use screw drivers often unless there needed i normally use pry bars over flat head screw drivers @Redemption Garage
I have the 20pc sunex screwdriver set but I have not used it yet..

Great reviews Brian 👌 @Redemption Garage
try the OLSA 20pc. Set on Amazon they have a huge beefy handle and diamond tipped for 69.99 would love to see what you think.

Wiha is the best screwdrivers I have ever had I also have the snap on screwdrivers I love my wiha ones the best!
Was curious about those Icon screwdrivers. Good video brother!
I keep my Snap On set at home along with the rest of my tool truck stuff and have the Icon set in my carry bag along with the Icon 3/8 and 1/4 flex.
Craftsman professional screwdrivers fit my hand the best...I'm glad I got them before being discontinued

Which one seems better to you. Gearwrench or icon screwdriver?
Awesome banners! Specially the Stars and Stripes!....🇺🇸✌🏼🙏🏼👍🏼🤘🏼👏🏼💪🏼
I have the doyle demolition drivers I have 2 sets of 2 of them they work well for what i use then for @Redemption Garage
They seem a little harder handles than snap on but good price just wish the had different colors than red and black

I have the Craftsman, Wiha, and Gearwrench sets my sentiments are exactly the same as yours.
Trying to decide between these and the USA made tekton.
Those tektons gotta be made by wilde

How much have you used the Gearwrench precision screwdrivers and curious 1-5 how would you rate them?
Try the Pittsburgh Pro. I like them more than my snap on.
How is the tip fit?
I have Witte (branded matco) and wiha Torx I just ordered. I almost got the snap on screwdrivers but figured I’d go with German made just simply because I got them cheaper lol
Check out powerbuilt screwdrivers some are same as icon some are Ingersoll Rand

@9:15 I feel your pain bro that’s me on a daily.
I’ve got the same snap on set & I just used the big one out of the set to split a engine & transmission 😅
Klein. Great grip and they really bite into the fasteners.
These look like a great deal, the magnetic tips are a deal closer for me. Great video
The Icon look about 25% different from the Snap On, which is what you need to circumvent a copyright!
Yup. Iqon, Icon. 25%
Looks like I'm buying a set of ICON screwdrivers 😉
$49 for the Icon?? SK has a U.S.A made soft grip set on Amazon for $55 so what reason would the china crap be basically the same price???
