The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

In 2000, my 16 year old daughter came to me so excited. She heard a "new" band The Mama's and Papas. I laughed my head off....priceless. I guess the music is timeless.

Someone gave my mum tickets to see Cass at the Palladium, my dad couldn't go with her so she took the nine year old me. Didn't know who she was until that night, but I was a fan by the end of the show. She was engaging and funny all evening and even at the tender age of nine I understood what a great voice she had.
Then a couple of days later I found my mum in tears and momma Cass had gone. I was one of the lucky ones who'd seen her last show. Great loss.

@@jorger5777 Memories are such a difficult thing , especially from childhood. They were the days when people still dressed up to the nines to go to the theatre, especially the Palladium and it just seemed much more special back then.
I can't particularly remember what songs she sung, I'm pretty sure California dreaming and creeque alley were involved, probably other mamas and papas songs as well.
I just remember the quality of her voice, the clarity and melody she carried when singing.
The show was also a bit more than just her singing, she engaged with the audience, told a few tales and jokes as well. I remember her tip- toeing across the stage to much laughter just the sense that everyone was really enjoying it.
I wish I could bring the images of her singing back into my conscious and hear the songs she sang that night but unfortunately too much time has passed.

I am 38 years old and I listen to the music up and down. Must have been a great time. I wish I had been there. I thank my father that he always heard this music during his lifetime and that I grew up with this music. Today my son hears that. Music from the past will survive generations. No comparison with today's garbage. Peace and Make Love not War. ✌

I agree with you 💯 I'm 40 I grew up on their music, classic rock from the 60s and 70s. The California folk rock scene. Back in the 90s when everyone else was listening to Britney Spears, backstreet boys I was listening to the Mamas and Papas
