Those flight 232 pilots did an amazing job. With no hydraulics it’s almost always an un- survivable incident. The fact that some survived is amazing.
Additionally because of the quick response by Sioux City Airport Fire Service that’s why a majority of people survived although seeing 111 lives lost is tragic enough it still is considered a miracle as you flew a plane without hydraulics and saved 189 people including yourself with Great CRM and quick response by the Airport Fire Service it only falls behind for me
China Airlines 006 (Smooth landing at San Francisco and saved everyone onboard although considered pilot error as the cause)
China Airlines 120 (Suspected Maintenance oversight as the parts connecting the jackscrews fell off and punctured the fuel tank somehow in 3 minutes all 165 passengers and crew got out)
DHL hit by a missile over Baghdad (I said it wrong or not)
That was due to a missile by terrorists and like United 232 landed except without breaking apart even tho they went off the runway

everyone on that plane was supposed to die but the pilots managed to wrestle back 189 lives. Brilliant job.

In reading about Continental 2574 that had its leading edge come off, the article said the crew and passengers would’ve lost consciousness from the extreme g-forces produced by the falling and spiraling. I’m glad to know they didn’t have to experience the whole thing.
Still very violant, watched the episode..even the investigators noted how violant it crashed.

They knew because it took minutes before the plane started to dive and reach that speed so unfortunately they would of been terrified before they passed out

I remember working my nursing shift at Des Moines General Hospital 🏥, taking care of a 78 yr old Cardiac patient; we sat there watching KCCI TV Special Report... Captain Al Haynes was a Hero, among the rest of the Crew ❤️💯🖐️✝️

I think they also landed right next to a Boeing factory, so they just towed the plane off the levee and repaired it
I feel so bad for the flight 232 pilots, they probably have lots of feelings of guilt, even though they did the best that they could :/
They were able to move on, but they thought they could’ve done more.
Yeah it’s definitely difficult to see them tear up.
If they hadn't have acted fast then more people would have died. They were heroic in their efforts at attempting to control a near un-controllable situation and their efforts nearly paid off. But the fact that so many people did survive shows how good their efforts were.

I have experience on the DC-8 and in a situation like the that . . . PUT THE AIRLAINE DOWN ANYWHERE YOU CAN - IMMEDIATELY.. The engineer should should have noticed the low tire pressure and no tire change or wheel replacement. If you get fired - YOUR STILL ALIVE to get another job.

Thank you for these fascinating, chair-gripping videos. One can't help being affected by these tragedies! I pray for all the people
who lose their lives and hope that all those poor souls are at rest, and their families are able to cope with their grief! How do these air traffic controllers manage to handle so much at once? Our brains aren't able to focus totally on a number of things. Some jobs really do require multi-tasking employees. If the inter-communications between airplane crew and tower don't work smoothly, disasters can happen so easily. It's amazing that, despite all these terrible accidents, so many planes still manage to fly and land safely! Having to stick to schedules and still get from point A to B, plus all the check lists, must be overwhelming! God bless them
for getting us there safely. Kudos to the investigators who do their utmost to solve the causes and bring about changes for
the better! If only the planes could withstand the accidents as well as the "black" boxes do. Thank goodness they can provide
vital information, unfortunately, they can't bring back the passengers and crew.
I wonder when the 2020 Calabasas helicopter crash video be added, because earlier, we only got a preview where the pilot suffered spatial disorientation that kills everyone on board. I wanna watch the full story of that accident soon.

The flight trainer and the crew has the right to be proud, as much as there were deaths. To get people on the ground with no hydraulics is amazing! Credit to him and the crew! It's better to get some people on the ground than none at all.
My dad was on united 232 he was one of the survivors he told me what happened we he got out of the hospital then I saw it on the news that the flight my dad was on had crashed my worst fear had came true I’ll never forget that day.
PSA 1771 was probably the most terrifying of them all only behind the 4 planes involved in 9/11 (American Airlines 77 and 11 as well as United Airlines 175, 93) as having someone kill your colleagues and your boss is not only heartbreaking but excruciating.
Had the Flight attendant who was the 2nd person shot shut the door and lock it. It would have been more than enough to stop David Burke to push the yoke forward and the Chief Pilot could have apprehended him and pinned him to the ground.
Also it’s likely the 6th shot was on Mr Thompson as it was 2 shots at him however, it was not determined if a 6th shot occurred with the fingerprint on the trigger guard
This situation was similar to Express 705 (Federal Express 705) except the Captain was able to land the DC-10-30 (N306FE) after taking over control from the First Officer.
Yep, this was an example of poor CRM (crew resource management) that flight attendant should have (as you said) shut to door. She would have been shot anyways regardless, however the plane could have been saved.
@@DeltaTripleZero0ne It's important to note it would've stopped him but that would be unknown how long before David Burke broke the cockpit door as its an estimate and it was before 9/11 when they implemented stronger more reinforced doors. when I searched up about PSA 1771 and it's wiki page it's important to note that the CVR Recording was quite bad so some areas were undetermined I'm not sure if that was an issue for the ARVJ-1000 (Today's name but in the video it was then called the BAE-146) but yes. Had the Flight Attendant not like opened the door and used the intercom instead it would've been more than enough to stop David Burke and as you said CRM was not used however, in saying that it kind of backfired in a way as I believe in a hijack back then it mightve been different as it is nowadays with changes to training. Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like its to report to the captain using the door not the intercom.

Unfortunately - a good preflight might have identified the problem before the fight. a young captain in his twenties rarely performs the inspection but rather defers to the the first officer. That is a low wing airplane and should have been identified.
Oh gosh, this is so sad to watch. Such airline disasters, wherever they occur, are always heart wrenching & heart breaking to hear about & to see via tv. All human lives are worthy and precious, no matter where one hails from. I sometimes wonder, what countless souls have thought about, during such fearful moments & prior to such catastrophic events. For most on these flights, their last few minutes of their life. To all who have died, may you all rest in eternal peace & my condolences i send, to their nearest & dearest. They will never be forgotten, but always remembered & honoured.

A Maniac passenger with a revolver kills the pilots and stewardess. Then pulls the throttle down . I cannot believe my eyes. I cannot believe this. Shocking. Terrifying beyond belief.

Captain Haynes has a very distinctive voice, it was him who kept yelling- "Left rudder, left left left left left left" Not the Copilot, (you can clearly hear it on the CVR & also I think on the intro to the Mayday crash series) before the crash. I know that this is a very stupid & petty thing to mention, given all of the lives lost on UA 232, but I feel like if you are going to do a reenactment about something you should do all of the research necessary, to do it any justice (just my opinion). Prayers to all of the victims on this flight- those who survived & those who didn't, and also to all of the friends & families affected by this disaster. 🙏🙏🙏
I kinda find it hard to understand that no mention has been made about the 727 crash at Salt Lake City airport involving flight 227 on November 11 1965. At the time I lived in the Rose Park area which was only 3 miles to the east.
They haven't made that one yet.

@@gm12551 well actually the Dc-10 has only 1500 deaths whereas the 747 has more than 4000 and the 737 has 6000 deaths so I wouldn’t call the DC-10 a death plane

According to what I have looked up, the fatalities were as follows
DC10 = 1261
B747 = 2631
B737 = 3576
While I agree the DC 10 isn't as bad as people make it out to be, you have to keep in mind the DC 10, as an airliner, was way less popular than the B747, let alone the B737 and had a much shorter production run, and yet the numbers are comparable. It's easy to see why people see it in a negative light, even though I personally think it's overblown.

I was a kid when PSA crashed in San Diego. I remember my dad came home from work and said he sat a plane clash. My dad worked at the shipyard and heard a boom - they had no chance

35:07 I couldn't agree more. I don't applaud people for doing the job that they were trained to do, and for which they are extremely well paid. And you never see the flight attendants being awarded for being the true heroes, not knowing what is actually going on and being responsible for the passengers' lives.

i had just moved to san diego and lived 2 blocks from north park way where psa 182 crashed, it made me afraid of flying for at least a decade.
I don’t get why when the dude started shooting everyone doesn’t rush him it’s obvious he’s gonna take down the plane might as well die trying to save it. Idk how I’d react in a situation like this it’s insane but still you’d think someone would step up.

Titanium should not have heat put into it when debured. I did the job and we had to deburr with files etc not belt Sanders . It's very important as heat will affect the titanium and I believe it is weakened and can crack or break. It is a very strong metal and very hard so it's hard like when stainless steel gets very hot it goes very very hard like carbide almost.
