See the follow up to this video, where we take a look at what are the main concerns about this upcoming release. th-cam.com/video/-HNmE3GEOg4/w-d-xo.html
@@CMACJAZZ , hi Charlie the Ti on the Nvidia graphics cards stand for “Titanium” . It is the Nvidia moniker for its fastest cards in that model range and normally has a faster clock speed and more memory. Take care.
@Tom Maxwell What Flight Simulator exactly? Have you seen all the videos? Do the words game changer not mean anything. I assume you are of course talking about a fully tooled up (add-ons) simulator but not everybody has that luxury or financial clout and buying FS2020 is going to be a lot more appealing to them.
The reaction from the Preview event was very positive, so you don't just have to take the word of Asobo or Microsoft and remember you'll get more opinion when the tech alpha starts to get disected in the coming weeks and months.
@Tom Maxwell A large part of this also depends on what exactly you enjoy in a flight sim. I've currently got the X-Plane 11 demo on my computer, which allows me to fly around the Seattle area in something like a dozen aircraft. I currently only have mouse controls and have very limited experience flying real aircraft, so I can't comment on the simulator aspect of the demo, except that it seems realistic enough for me under the circumstances. The major problem with it is that as soon as I leave whatever airfield I started on, the graphics look like a lot of the 90s arcade games with somewhat better texture resolution. There are almost no 3D buildings, the 3D roads don't look anything like real roads, the terrain is extremely blocky so trying to land on a road means finding a patch of road that doesn't have a 45° bend somewhere, trees and buildings have no collision detection, etc. I'm too far east of Seattle to fly over my house in the demo (I live near Spokane), but I'm positive the sim's representation wouldn't even resemble my house. The city complexity is so low there's not even a point to simulating things like traffic on the road. If all you want is a commercial aircraft flight sim where 90% of your flying is at 20k+ feet, that's all fine and good. If, like me, you enjoy ultralights and small Cessna-style aircraft to fly around the back country (or to tear down main street at 30 feet AGL because why not, it's a flight sim), this is crap. What I'm seeing from MSFS2020 is that I will be able to do the stuff I enjoy with really good immersion in ways other flight sims don't readily support. Whether those impressive graphics will hold up outside of major cities remains to be seen, of course. So maybe it won't be all it's cracked up to be. But in my limited use case, X-Plane 11 isn't even 1% as good as the new MS sim will hopefully be. So a comment like "hope it's 50% as good as it looks" still refers to something insanely better than X-Plane, in this context. I'm guessing with addons, X-Plane could look a lot better than it does in the demo. But MSFS will do all of this without the hassle or extra cost, and looks like it will still be tons better than the X-Plane addons unless you happen to be flying in one of the few areas with really good addon support. forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/34232-gb-pro-v2-detailed-vfr-scenery-for-great-britain/ for example, looks a lot better than the demo I'm running (and is a free addon to boot), but is still nowhere near as good as the new MSFS looks.
I really hope there will be some kind of career mode or missions. Like being a postal plane with different loadouts and weights on the plane, going to airports around the world in bad weather and so on.
Thanks for commenting. There is no news yet to confirm or deny this feature, but FSX had some basic missions so there is room for optimism....could be something they leave for the developers?
Agreed, as of now it is too early to know if they will be doing any missions or some sort of a rewarding career mode and you make your way to the top as a pilot, much like FSX missions have these roleplay style, your first officer for example does the ATC communication and intercoms passengers etc. Would love to see that again indeed
I don't want a career mode, because what would that be in a realistic flight sim? Taking off on time? Trying to conserve fuel? Keep flying individual routes with major airlines, and flying them at only the correct times? Individual missions are a better idea, and that has already been available in past Flight Simulators.
I will continue to buy software for my current platform. Aviation used to be my career, and now flight sim is my hobby, and only real practical way of keeping my self involved in aviation. I’m amazed how far flight sims have come and will continue to enjoy my hobby while supporting developers. After all...life is short, and who knows I could be gone tomorrow (I hope not).
So if aviation was your life, you are very small part of customers. Most of customers comes from gaming scene with different expectations. Try to provide X-Plane or P3D to current gamers... They will tell you that perfromance is terrible and graphics sucks
@@MajinGhozzy666 Hope so I setup my new rig for 3D glasses monitor new 2080 then NVIDIA pulls the plug on 3D support.I would like to go VR just don't know what unit to get Ill wait for the new sim to come out then will see reviews cant believe the new Half life is VR only it would sell more giving both options.
Between, the visuals that you see are what they are going to be. Yes it's a game changer too - As an alpha tester I can confirm :-) The community is going to be totally jaw dropped when released! I cant even boot up XP and P3D because simply put, they look rubbish in comparison
Where to spend my money now is a decision I will have to consider carefully. I don’t plan on purchasing any additional aircraft or scenery. Even planned hardware purchases are on hold such as a replacement graphics card, until there is more clarity on this great looking MS flight sim.
I retired from American Airlines (1988-2018) Captain Airbus 321, B737, B757, B767intl, MD80, CRJ 200/700, EMB 190, and numerous General Aviation... and I'm looking forward to this program.
Yeah this is true. This is a completely different investment than other simulators. You can get mad if your equipment/PC specs don't hold up with the new sim. This will be above and beyond anything we have ever played! With that being said I will probably stick with xplane for my instrument practice but we will have to see how accurate the aircraft systems actually are. Hopefully they will have stock military aircraft!
@@naronwayne652 The instruments in this sim are based off of actual partnerships with the company's. It will be far more accurate in every way, now as far as hardware goes.. it is going to be primarily internet based because of the AI component, the way they generate scenery is completely different.. xplane can only run off of 1 core so it actually is an incredibly inefficient sim hardware wise. This will run off of all cores. Internet will be peoples downfall here, thankfully I get 1GB down. Have a I7 8700k, and a gtx 1080 with 32gb of ram and you will play at max settings guaranteed. People are not understanding the way that it is programmed, and how it uses you're hardware to give you the best framerate possible.. unlike xplane, which unless you have a top system you are not getting 40fps even.. I would bet a thousand dollars, you could run this sim on medium graphics with a mid range desktop, and a good internet connection an get far better fps than you ever would on Xplane just because of the use of the processor;s cores.
I'm sticking with X-Plane, since it is truly a multi-platform flight simulator. It works on Linux, Mac OS, Android and iOS, not just Microsoft operating systems. I use it on Linux and Mac OS. I also appreciate the high frame rate, stand-alone ability without an ongoing subscription, and the superior flight simulation engine in X-Plane. It is possible to create your own aircraft in X-Plane. I created an open-source free model of the BD-5J Microjet, and I didn't have to pay Laminar Research for the privilege of doing so.
Exactly...i'm getting prepared (lol) ..actually an irony there...getting my bandwidth upgraded to the best, getting new yoke..honeycomb...and already have the 2060 graphics card...all set to go..
I’m so tired with f...ng low FPS black textures popping ups, stutters, blurring I’m on i7 6700K 32GB Ram 4,5 ghz GTX 1080ti 49 inch tv monitor 4k Still uncomfortable unhappy
I have two concerns. 1. No VR. I have the top Occulus Rift VR setup. Don't want to go to flat screen after having used it. 2. Paying to use FS2020 as a "rental" program; like what Adobe did for all their software, is a bad idea. The idea that you have to pay in perpetuity to use it is very unappealing to me. It's expensive enough to purchase a stable of 3rd party planes you want to fly, upgrade or build new computer systems that can run the program, get peripheral equipment like VR helmets, flight control systems et al that will work with it. To charge $110 a year for the "privilege" of being able to use their Sim is something that would have me take a pass on it. FSX sucks in comparison, but at least I can continue to fly my very expensive stable of purchased aircraft and continue to use my VR and control systems without having to pay another dime to do so as I own FSX outright. Having to rent it via never ending payments will be the red line for me. Not supporting VR or my very expensive Max Flight control setup will be a very close second.
@@SimHangerFS A good point here... since this question is totally answered at the moment, the only thing for sure is: it's not in their DNA (contrary to VR). If you look at their previous game Fuel (2009) it was one of its flaws (though with gorgeous visuals). Indeed, if their goal is extreme realism, they cannot avoid implementing a very good damage model. I suspect the "hard" mode will imply structural damage when out of the flight enveloppe, or when impacting a bird, or when extending flaps at high speed...maybe the (great!) icing model presented is a clue to how they will address this damage model aspect?
@@terraincognita2334 , I suspect what we will get is ''implied'' damage, the aircraft behavior will reflect the damage caused but visually we will not see too much...would be amazing if we could visually see a dent in the wing or something!
@@SimHangerFS Agreed. At minimum we should expect instruments failures or decreased manoeuverability, as examples. But sure visual effects will be most welcomed (imagine in a career mode you should take care of your plane and not damage it!). An engine fire sure needs a visual representation (already the case in X-Plane or p3d)
I'm currently a major P3D simmer, with only a toe dipped into XPlane so far. I've also just retired, which affects my perspective somewhat for the purchase of addons, as I now have a much smaller income stream to live on. Yes, I'm keeping my wallet mainly closed until further information is available. I can see me running P3D concurrently with MSFS, but with no further P3D investment, once MSFS is released. One very significant thing for me - I had planned to spend a lot more time on XP, once I had the time to set it up properly when I retired. I now feel that there is no incentive to do this, as the advantages of XP over P3D now appear to be swallowed up by MSFS. So XP is probably now dead for me, I'm afraid.
Keith Hodkinson , hello Keith. I was also a P3D only fan at one time. Xplane currently is my preferred daily sim, give it a go, you won’t be disappointed once you get to grips with it.
Thank you for this highly informative video which summs up very well the known aspects of this project, and yes - I think it clearly applies as a game changer. As a proof, see how Laminar Research deleted from youtube their q&a livestream after they realized it did'nt take adequately into account this new FS2020 (not to mention some sound problems and a rather-relaxed presentation). As for now, I'll keep using X-Plane 11 as my favourite platform (with many add-ons of course) but when the alpha will come up, I'll have to make comparisons of course...By the way, which surprises me most (besides the retro-compatibility mode as you pointed) was the announcement of non support for multi-monitor setup at launch - well that is leaving aside a lot of us simmers ! At least they said it'll be done later on...
@@SimHangerFS well I spotted this limitation from the Frooglesim video about the 09/30 event at Seattle - I think it's a reliable source: th-cam.com/video/Fj8h6yibHHc/w-d-xo.html&t=1601
@@terraincognita2334 , thanks I checked it out and your right, surprising but I don't think Froogle would have got this wrong. There are going to be some very unhappy cockpit builders out there!
@@topaviator , Hi, what I mean is that the sim, on initial release, may not support multiple monitor set up to suit cockpit builders, although I am aware that they are reviewing this position so this might change prior to release.
Gonna hand build an insane pc for my father for this. Just the visual and flight realism makes it worth the new sim build. Hope he continues logging thousands more flight hours with even bigger smiles. And when vr happens, I will introduce him to it in this sim. Best wishes to all simmers.
Deja vu: I remember well those overwhelming pictures of the brandnew FSX, but he customer had to cope with terribly low frames. You can't get it all, promoses, promises.
FSX was old and unoptimized tech even in 2006, it is coded to mostly use CPU rather than GPU for a lot of the graphics rendering. It's good that they got rid of that old code (some of it used since the mid-90s) and started from scratch, even if it took this long. FS2020 will be very GPU intensive and will utilize multiple CPU cores.
I was very doubtfull as you first. But, it's another story now. From what we know now, things have already been made to avoid it this time. There is already a system to avoid low FPS and compensate rate lows as it is said. Most of the data is streamed. FSX has been so much upsetting. But it's not FSX and we're not in 2007 ! It's not even the same studio working with Microsoft. It's working at full setting with a i7 7700k ! And more than all, they are working with the community and lots of real pilots and testers in the Alpha version !
It did have pretty bad frame rates (with higher detail) when it first released. But as technology increased, frame rates increased. The worst part, was that it didn't really make use of high end GPUs. And it really would have helped the look of the game.
2 years later! This came up in my feed and I just had to rematch this Mark. I think it's safe to say it's risen to the top of the best GA sim out there, looking forward to X Plane 12! Take care :)
I love Xplane 11 but it cost me a lot of time and storage to develop the scenery used in Xplane 11. Having the ability to fly in different cities with excellent scenery that is ready with the push of a button is a game changer for me. Just think, you are planning a 1,300 mile cross country flight in the real world that you have never flown before. You plan out the flight and then fly it in MFS. Oops, I think I want to make a few changes based on my VR SIM experience. Ok, now Iam ready to experience the real flight. SIMs are also great for practicing procedures and keeping your flight skills sharp. I am watching MFS very closely and will give it a try ASAP!
I've spent over a grand easy on FSX, P3D, and XP11 for scenery, planes, and utility add-ons. I say keep the hobby advancing, and kiss that grand goodby.
From what I've read, Tech Alpha 1 has been delayed about a month now. I don't mind hearing that, I would rather not have them rush. There's plenty of footage from the VIP event they had in WA that shows how the sim really looks.
From what I understand and correct me if I am wrong, this game (sim) will use TRUE multicore, that could be a game-changer. Most other games do not use multicore, this could improve the game performance significantly and if they are using the full power of your graphics card that will help as well.
I have doubts about fps, so far I notice some stuttering on trailers released, and I imagine they use ultra powerful computers. I guess well have to wait to see.
Hi Tango, no real substantial information on this at the moment, but I am with you....missions please....and an interface that will allow us to create our own and share them. Regards
Hi, come on Microsoft, get your fingers out....time is ticking. If I would hazard a guess I would say release sometime between July and September next year. Regards
What do we do with our old simulators? This will ruin the immersion of ALL of them if it delivers as promised. But without an editor to make a Lear go Mach 80 at FL 240 I'm still missing an aspect of X-Plane.....the EDITOR.
Wrong....try Google Earths FS right now with all settings on high and see how your PC does. FS2020 will have detailed panels but the scenery will be close to the same. A better vid card will probably be more important than a CPU.
Technically 12/31/2020 is still considered 2020 :) i would say we should wait patiantly, let the developers perfect it. About your question : If you invested 2000$ in Ms Fs98, you wouldnt move to Fs2020? thats the answer :)
I put my wallet away since the announcement. I'm content with my current add-ons and will be waiting for this to release and to work out its bugs and get some needed add-on aircraft released by third parties, even if that could be 2 or 3 years away. P3d has always been on life support to make it great (throwing $¥$ at it) and its about time to move on.
Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated. I think your views are fairly common in the community, so I couldn't disagree with you. I believe LM and Prepar3d could be facing a few problems ahead, not due to its platform, but users are bulking at the US$ 200 version upgrade price. I'm also not sure if LM is too bothered by MSFS 2020, their primary market is not the casual flight Simmer.
You can still fly P3DV4 and XP11 or even FSX if you want - once MSFS comes out so it's not so much of an issue. MSFS will require more details aircraft and more detail airports - that's where the money will be.
i for one wont be ditching X-Plane i want to see how their Vulcan runs and with VR but having said that I wont be opening my wallet just yet i will wait for the Alpha testers release of MSFS2020
Hi Chris, I will be jumping on MSFS as soon as it is released, but like you I will not be ditching Xplane. I fly mainly VR and until this is incorporated into the new sim Xplane will have a confirmed space on my hard drive. Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Best Regards
I will also not ditch X-Plane quite just yet. Seeing is believing, and we admittedly saw some awesome "videos". The other thing I want to see is whether the Starship Enterprise's computer can actually run it.
They should release the specs of the computers and internet connection speeds they are using to provide the quality we see in these videos. That might give us a better idea of what we as the consumer are really getting ourselves into rather then just find out after purchase that our experience is significantly different. Keep in mind, the monthly subscription price is the same for everyone and not for the quality in which our systems can produce. Do we need to prepare to purchase $4,000 PC's with fiber internet to get anywhere near the quality Microsoft is getting in their videos? It's 2019. We're not stupid here, we all clearly know that the lowest recommended requirements are no where near good enough to enjoy flight simulator games on PC.
Well I was going to buy the new North California region for XP11 but then, why should I spend £40+ when it will be represented even better in FS2020! So yes - I am certainly holding back on software. I bought Flight Global by Just flight for XP - which I think is really good, but that will probably be my last investment until i see where things are heading. Not healthy for the developers I know but one doesn't have infinite resources! I am being prudent.
Hi John, thanks for the feedback, I am likely to continue to purchase enhancements, but on a much more occasional basis, I too will be more prudent going forward. I could very well be wrong, but it would not surprise me to see the frequency of software sales and heavy discounting increase from the second quarter of next year onward.
You are also in my opinion about to be conned into paying rent/subscription fees for something you will never own. Not for me, Unless they change and sell the sim for a set double figure price.
I stop using MSFX unfortunately after invest a lot of money in my hardware like a year ago, just because even with my almost NASA PC and all the tricks, I get tired of the bad poor performance and unrealistic platform. Now I feel exited again and I'm waiting for this new sim to come out, so hopefully I don't get disappointed.
For PMDG to jump in headfirst and forsake other platforms they obviously have access to a lot of stuff no one outside the internal team has seen yet. They truly know what's in store for us. No sane person would make such a massive business decision otherwise. From everything I am seeing and hearing any fears I had have been put to rest. I truly cannot wait. I was just getting settled with XP11 too as I thought that was the future before MS announced FS's reboot. I want to see Laminar come out their corner fighting hard, competition breeds excellence.
Having been on the sim a fair amount during XO19, I can confirm that even just from the 3 demos this is FAR more than we think, and it really is better than we think too
As advanced as this sim is, I would be surprised if any of the addons that we use now will be compatible here. New technology seldom works with old technology.
I will believe it when I see it. Microsoft tends to be untruthful at times like with its operating system, If they can eaves drop on you, reset your bios on your machine without authority, What will they do with flight sim?
Very interestingly compiled video, Mark. I'll personally not go for a subscription based simulator. Adobe has followed a similar strategy with photography products... also a no, no in my case. I want my stuff on my PC. I presume that Lockheed Martin / X-plane will also not sit idle with further development...
Hi Herman, I'm not sure P3D has the platform to keep pace, but I agree with you on Xplane, they are already incorporating metal and vulcan code, hopefully this will speed things along and we will see Xplane keep pace. Xplane has a loyal and strong following, I know because I am one of them. Best Regards and thank you for your ongoing support.
But Adobe and Autodesk do this so company's will always have the latest version. I have worked in company's that uses these products and it is a nightmare if there goes many years before they invest in a new version. Lockheed Martin don't care they make military equipment and P3D is just a spec of dust for them. Laminar Research is to small to do something like this, remember Microsoft is a giant compared to them.
Agreed, not one mention up to now about realism in the cockpit, I rarely fly vfr, commercial night flights are my thing so I'm not jumping about this...yet!!.
Hello, I'm coming from FSX-SE in which I have 335 Hrs on. I have spent $600 on the platform with titles PMDG, ORBX, REX, Active Sky, Flightbeam, Navigraph. Current PC- 8700K, 1080ti. Bandwidth at Ping 9ms, 600Mbps down, 18 up. At a cost of under $2 an hour, I think I got my money's worth:) Excluding the PC build. I do plan on purchasing the new sim. For me it most certainly checks most of the boxes of things I want from a next gen sim. The fact that they are front and center with the community is a reassuring aspect.. We are certainly a tough crowd! I should dial back my expectations as the the new sim will have a lot of complexities that I'm sure will bring headaches along with it.. but to be honest battling those issues was part of the fun. One thing I would love to see is an economy structure. I always missed having even the smallest of goals to achieve. ATC would be another nice add. I think this also explains the Dovetail story as well. Laminar has some work ahead of them and I bet they deliver in some way! P3D.. I don't see how they adapt to this in the long term. All in all I think this is absolutely great for simmers like myself. Exciting times for sure.. Finally we get some love:) Thanks so Much
I can't even count how much I've spent on FSX, FSX:SE and P3D for last 13 years! Went through multiple iterations of the PC gradually upgrading experience but never got to the point when everything works stable enough for long haul flights. There is something fundamentally wrong with architecture of both FSX and P3D because 3rd party add-ons/sceneries require custom settings all the time. Hopefully MS will implement some kind of app store with easy install/uninstall functionality similar to what Orbx FTX does.
Hi Todd, ATC is planned for this sim, still to be absolutely confirmed that it will make the initial release, but I expect it will. Microsoft held the rights to the entertainment licence they ceded to Dovetail, so yes this explains all now. Thanks for watching. Regards
There will definitely be military aircraft for the new flightsim. But not if it releases early 2020. More likely if its released mid 2020. The movie industry in Hollywood are coming out with a summer blockbuster next summer. From a business standpoint, no industry will miss out on that, especially not a flighsim industry. I can bet Microsoft and Asobo Studio or perhaps a 3rd party developer will have this in the plans. Everyone is going to wanna fly the bird from the new Blockbuster Movie - Top Gun Maverick. Its all speculation of course, but from a logic stand point. There will most likely be a marketing strategy in the wake of the movie release. The new Top Gun movie are making big buzz in many industries already. If the new Top Gun movie gets half the attention of what the 80´s version got its going to be BIG. In this day and age everyone want a piece of the cake.
When it comes to Military aircraft DCS Digital Combat Simulator is still the best around. Its free to play and any additional purchased aircraft will always work on all future versions of the simulator. So if when DCS gets upgraded in the future to use a similar ground mapping as MSFS 2020 any purchased aircraft will most likely be transferred over at no additional cost. th-cam.com/video/732Y62VZIGc/w-d-xo.html
About the "lack" of seasons. If we think about it seasons are actually already in the sim if the whole atmospheric model is to be believed. Varying pressure, precipitation, winds, icing conditions, temperatures etc etc...all these indicate that seasons are very much a part of MSFS, I think. I believe it's the eye candy aspect that is lacking right now. It could be that by leveraging more of their Azure access Asobo could eventually overcome that hurdle as well. I may be completely off base here but I am cautiously optimistic.
Hello, yes it is the visual representation that will not be available on initial release. They have said that seasons is on their ''to do'' list. Timings...well who knows? Regards
@@TheFrontyer no, it's the price of the game at launch, they said there wouldn't be an inherent subscription model. Gamepass is just microsoft's Gaming subscription service, so you will have the choice of either using gampass and paying monthly or paying upfront as usual
The upcoming MSFS 2020 could be the next generation for flight simulation. Should we continue to invest in our current sim platforms or wait for this new simulator to come to market? What will this mean for current developers, they can switch to the new platform, but it could be a long wait until this eventually comes to market in 2020.
"long wait"?? .... try being a Star Citizen backer... we're like 7 years into development with 3-5 more to go. We understand 'long'... I can do a year standing on my head ;) This will be a serious game-changer for sure.
@@canyoncorners3034 Without VR integration, it'll be hard to compete with other platforms such as X-Plane. It's also developed with consideration of consoles which will limit the brand greatly.
One other note is that traffic can be A1 or live & they are working on a mixture of live & A1 which is proving tough. This sim will impact greatly & if Microsoft ditch it in years to come we may not have much else. I’m both excited & concerned. I hate subscription based anything but to safe guard our long term interests it might mean we need to pay subs so that Microsoft continue to make money thereby keeping it going. Nice video & well balanced assessment.
Hi Michael, great to get your views, by live I am assuming you mean via multiplayer or on line such as Vatsim or IVAO. Connection to something like Vatsim is going to be a key element for me. Regards
SimHanger Flight Simulation no, it seems the sim will have a live transponder feed like some aircraft tracking apps fed straight into the sim. Also A1 only if you wish & they are working on A1 plus live which is causing them some concern right now.
Hi, I know what you mean, what penalty will be paid in terms of detail for a low bandwidth. I wish they would come out with what they recommend as a workable connection. I would guess their file compression would be fairly advanced, but who knows at this time. Thanks for watching, appreciate it.
5mbps? Lmao that's you fault hence the date 2020 not 2005 lol at least have 100mbps otherwise you probably shouldn't be download anything with that speed anyway lol
Hello, I think the option to pre-download (cache) our favorite regions will be the answer to low bandwidth issues. This and bulky disks, of course! This is ideal if you fly low (general aviation), and if you fly airliners across large distances you won't need highly-detailed terrain or buildings - except when approaching airports, but these can be on your local disk
Some great points here and plenty of details to chew over! I personally feel this will be a hanmerblow to the flight simulator space. I cannot imagine how mind blowing this will in VR, however until it does, X Plane will be my main sim. Take care!
I will not be an early adopter. There will be bugs, and there are things not there yet, in my case study-level vintage airplanes, and helicopters. 2023 maybe.
@Dover I am 61, and over the years I have collected a lot of software I never used. I appreciate things that are mature and work fine, like my current setup. I have invested a lot of time and money in it. And I also know that people with different attitudes and needs exist in the flight sim community. You, for example, are younger, like to try new things out and think everybody not having your needs must be a fake.
Hello and thanks for your feedback. A program as complex as this will inevitably have some issues. I will jump in early, but will definitely not abandon my existing sims for quite some time for the very reasons you've mentioned...plus no VR for me is a big setback.
If it's a fixed price there is no big reason to wait imo, bug or not it looks like it will be the only VFR experience out there, putting all others to rest, as for IFR it remains to be seen.
If project Scarlett fulfils all the hype, then that would be the path I would take. So far as purchasing more software for other flight sims I doubt if I will bother as hardware inevitably holds back it full potential, as I can't afford to upgrade hard ware on an annual basis. MS FS2020 use of streaming data to the box (PC or Scarlett) bypasses a significant need for local storage and processing so its a smart move by a company who has a lot of the visual resources already at hand. Something other companies do not.
I hope they include in the future airships and custom airplane design with all their physics. Beyond that, with such huge digital world earth size, it would be a waste if they dont take advantage of this to compete with google earth as earth view service or for many other applications or games.
I'm not ok with monthly subscriptions... Pay for the program and let me own it. I realize they may have huge amounts of data stored that you'd need to access but storage is cheap and band width isn't that bad either. Include the costs in the initial purchase price... just my personal thoughts.
Storage is cheap nowadays but this sim is still too large to make it realistic to download the entire sim. Just to put things into perspective the physical copy of this sim will be shipped on 20,000 Bluray discs. And then imagine having update everything as updates come out.
Harmen You’re right and I cannot imagine Fsx, Prepared and X-plane being able to catch up with this quality in the short term. So in the meantime I won’t spend money on my beloving X-plane and wait patiently for MSFS2020. Then I will decide, because my investment in x-plane has already been quit considerable. I have one wish: please A2A, hop on at MSFS! You make by far the best GA aircraft and warbirds in the business and I have always missed you!
I've seen a number of videos on Microsoft Flight Simulator over the past few months and you've done a wonderful job of condensing all of that to-date into this video! One word on VR, I think they are already working on it and don't want to commit to it being in the initial release but I'm not ready to give up on VR just yet, they may just sneak it in, if not I'm sure we'll not have long to wait after release.
Realistically I can't see P3D or XPlane having an answer to MSFS2020 simply because neither of those developers has anything remotely similar to the MS Azure back end which enables the streaming terrain graphics, weather simulation & the rest of what makes this game frankly a step above what we've had in the past. I can see MSFS2020 becoming my go-to civilian flight sim for the foreseeable future.
No quandary here, despite the 1000’s spent on extra addons, scenery and aircraft that I have purchased for both P3D and XP11 will be grounded the moment MFS 2020 takes off. IF they pull this off, and provide everything as advertised out of the box, its a no brainier. This is starting to look like THE flight simulator we have all dreamed off since the start.
Word on the street is that RAM and bandwidth are the two biggest drivers of the visual experience at higher detail. We shall soon see. Also, you can see in some screenshots that there will be areas right next to each other that don't match well, data taken from different times of the year (greenbelts vs brown areas), clarity and lighting. This is due to the visual representation coming from Bing data, which is something that is very noticeable on the map website when choosing the satellite view. Hopefully some color correction can smooth this over a bit.
I really hope you don’t take this the wrong way but your age is a breath of fresh air! It’s always young people screaming into the microphone but I love your narration style!
The screenshot in the background when you see mark talking, is a shot of Sydney Harbour looking from the Eastern Suburbs. In the position of Mark's left ear, there is a white low structure on the edge of the water, which is where they will build the 3d model of Sydney's Opera House, and just behind this structure is where the Sydney Harbour Bridge will span across one side of the harbour to the other. In fact on both sides there are default buildings, which are in the exact position of the Sydney Harbour Bridge's Pylons. As a resident of Sydney and a Bus driver in the inner city of Sydney, I can tell you that the placement of each building, road, parkland etc.... is spot on.
Hi Jason, wow ... thanks for that. Microsoft are claiming that you can fly over your house in this new sim once it is released....maybe they are right!
Since FS10 I didn't have another commercial flightsimulator but flew with DCS instead. Now I'am very hyped about the new FS2020 and ofcourse I will buy it. I assume it will be released about 09/2020 and that is fine for me. In the meantime I have just upgraded my internet connection to 250 Mb/s and eventually this can further be upgraded to 500 Mb/s and further next year I will also invest in a new pc. But mind you: I'am an old flightsimmer of 74 years and have participated in flightsimming since FS02 in about 1985. And now my dreams comes true you will understand that I don't want to miss a second of it. I will further invest in DCS. I hope that Captainsim will participate in FS2020 because I love their oldies like the 707 and 727.
Having followed game engines for a while now. I don't see any reason why it should look any worse assuming you are able to run it at max settings. The only thing you won't so much detail in is VR but that is due to the need of high framerate and usually larger resolution per eye than most people are running in with regular screens. As for Xbox (or playstation for that matter,) both can receive regular USB inputs. So even if they released for Xbox, you'd be pretty limited with the type of hardware you can use (as you don't have custom drivers) but it's still highly possible to run full blown sims.
Thank you for a very professionally made and well articulated video :-) I've been with XP11 for a while and generally speaking I've been very happy with it in terms of flight modelling, graphics imagery, available freeware/payware addons etc. However, despite having a top end desktop PC that I built myself, frame rates are still not brilliant and I now get a lot of stuttering since XP11.40. In additional ATC is a complete waste of time, as is autogen of road infrastructure & traffic (especially over ORBX True Earth scenery ) which looks very silly! Personally then, I will not be investing any more money into XP until we know more about MSFS2020 :-(
Wow! As you say this will be a game-changer. If its as good as it looks it will be hard to avoid. As for our continued investment in X-Plane, P3d etc, I reckon most people will continue with their existing sims & software addons until the MFS release date is final.
It's impossible to get excited about MSFS2020 when we have no idea what PC I need to run it? How much bandwidth do I need to get these visuals? What do the lower level visuals look like? can I fly multiplayer with console players? Do I have to pay a subscription? How much does it cost? It's a bit suspicious that this information isn't being released, I'm bracing for bad news on each of these questions.
You can’t expect to buy this and pop it in your pc and expect it to look like the trailer. Rendering doesn’t work like that! Make sure you have a nice PC if you want the game to look like the trailer
I've just equipped myself with a Gaming Laptop - my first ever. It has an i7-9750H CPU, a GTX1660TI 6G GPU, 32 gig of RAM, and 3 tB of SSD storage. I just hope that's good enough for the new sim...
John Glossop hmmm hopefully. Shit like this happens all the time, people see a trailer and go crazy . I got so excited when I saw the trailer for x plane 11. When I played it, the ground and buildings were smudgy on low altitudes. Actually, smudgy grounds and flat buildings that are smudgy has been a number one problem in every flight simulator in history. It’s 2019 and sadly this hasn’t been fixed. I’m 90% sure Microsoft flight simulator will have this same problem. I may be wrong, but we haven’t seen any gameplay yet. People are getting excited for no reason . Most of the trailers u see are from high end computers in 4K
@@darminaxel5809 I think you have to remember a few things. First, it's not being developed by Microsoft, instead, they are using a partner in Asobo studios who have created some very beautiful games such as A Plague Tale which was just released. They are using more modern gaming techniques to render greater detail as you get closer to the ground, such as grass blades. These techniques weren't used in the past sims because the focus really wasn't the beauty of the world. The past sims did not leverage AI and machine learning to detect and place over 1.5 trillion trees nor to render the entire earth. It's quite amazing what AI and machine learning can do in the video game/sim industry, we are seeing one of the first glimpses of it.
game pass is not just 30+ it is 100+ on pc and 200+ on xbox! I have already game pass ultimate until 2022, i am gone be good for some time. And X-plane is gone be dead very fast when this releases! The day it was on announced at E3 was the day I stopped buying anything for FSX or x-plane
I basicaly fly digital combat simulator is the most realistic fly sim as for my own perspective the only thing would get my atention on mfs20 is the ability to fly in vr around my home city.
LMAO at game changer and we need to talk!!! I just bought the Manhattan upgrade and the Los Angeles Upgrades. Thanks to your video I have to get the topography addon. Then there's the planes and helicopters. Damn this could go on forever!!
Der Marc, thank you very much for this informative video. To my mind I can just agree with the former posts that will be a new dimension of flight simulation MS is going to set! I follow every "," of new information we hear about. Will visit the flight expo in Vegas next year. My existing Fsx will still be kept (no further investment)as respectful memory 😉 Regards from Cologne, Joachim
MS Flight Simulator games have always had individual missions. Then you get graded on those missions. Missions ranged from performing rescue a mission in a helicopter, flying flying an overwatch pattern in an F-18 during a shuttle launch, flying a ferry mission from Las Vegas to Area 51 in an unmarked airliner, maneuvers in an airshow in multiple aircraft like an Extra 300 stunt plane. Theres no reason to think there would be individual missions.
I can understand PMDG stopping X-Plane support. Flight Factor, SSG, etc. already have the Boeings that PMDG have products for in the sim and FS2020 is going to support and expand on the SDK that PMDG are already very familiar with. From a business view it does make sense for them to do it.
Nikolay Klimchuk yeah we’ll build a study level Boeing sim for free and give it away, people will love you I guess. And no, the zibo mod to an EXISTING X-plane aircraft (which is constantly being updated and broken), is NOWHERE near as detailed in the systems as PMDG’s products, not even close. But armchair pilots don’t know what’s missing so they think it’s the same.
One of my major concerns is the level of community access to development tools. Yes, Microsoft has spoken of community access, but so far it appears to only be with the big commercial developers of additional features for the sim. Will there be a place for (something close to my heart) development of AI traffic, as was the case with FSX? Design of parking spots to match real world conditions? Development of ground traffic to service the aircraft, a la FSX? ATC and aircraft voice pack development? Repaint access to both in sim and third party developed aircraft, so that the simmer can get a similar "real world traffic" effect as was available in FSX? And what about virtual airlines, which played a big role in the success of FSX? On a slightly different tack, if all goes to plan, it would appear that scenery develoment for the core sim may be a thing of the past, but there are many simmers out there who don't have access to huge bandwidth to download dynamic scenery. Will there be a niche for scenery developers to build scenery for those people (and I consider that, with just 44mB/sec bandwidth, I'm likely a candidate for the "stand alone" version of the new sim) who don't have the bandwidth to benefit from the wonderful 2 petabytes of cached data that Microsoft will be providiing? I know, time will tell, but I just wish that Microsoft coould be a little more forthcoming with this project, so plebs like me can decide whether to plod on with FSX, or whether we can look forward to some at least of the goodies being dangled before us in FS 2020.
John Glossop , hi John and thanks for your views, one shared by many. The extent of third party development still needs more clarification and detail, although I do believe both AI traffic and connection to the likes of Vatsim are planned.
See the follow up to this video, where we take a look at what are the main concerns about this upcoming release. th-cam.com/video/-HNmE3GEOg4/w-d-xo.html
It seems seasons will be included! They released a video for the new year showing dynamic snowfall!
Hi Mark,
Recently watched again graphics cards GTX V RTX great info, can you tell me what the T i means on gtx 1070Ti or 1080Ti
Cheers
Charlie
@@CMACJAZZ , hi Charlie the Ti on the Nvidia graphics cards stand for “Titanium” . It is the Nvidia moniker for its fastest cards in that model range and normally has a faster clock speed and more memory. Take care.
If it looks 50% as good as it says than I am still happy
@Tom Maxwell What Flight Simulator exactly? Have you seen all the videos? Do the words game changer not mean anything. I assume you are of course talking about a fully tooled up (add-ons) simulator but not everybody has that luxury or financial clout and buying FS2020 is going to be a lot more appealing to them.
The reaction from the Preview event was very positive, so you don't just have to take the word of Asobo or Microsoft and remember you'll get more opinion when the tech alpha starts to get disected in the coming weeks and months.
@@dtrjones that's what I am saying. It looks amazing and I am super happy!!!!
This is in game footage.
Well, Aboso studio is hiring multiple mission designers as was reported last month. So this is really likely!
Agreed, as of now it is too early to know if they will be doing any missions or some sort of a rewarding career mode and you make your way to the top as a pilot, much like FSX missions have these roleplay style, your first officer for example does the ATC communication and intercoms passengers etc. Would love to see that again indeed
Oh yeah, this would be a game changer to make this kind of simulator more interesting to "common" people
I don't want a career mode, because what would that be in a realistic flight sim? Taking off on time? Trying to conserve fuel? Keep flying individual routes with major airlines, and flying them at only the correct times?
Individual missions are a better idea, and that has already been available in past Flight Simulators.
I will continue to buy software for my current platform.
Aviation used to be my career, and now flight sim is my hobby, and only real practical way of keeping my self involved in aviation. I’m amazed how far flight sims have come and will continue to enjoy my hobby while supporting developers. After all...life is short, and who knows I could be gone tomorrow (I hope not).
Best reasonable answer here! Full of fanboys out there.
Me too....ex MEI, CFII instructor here. I shoot two approaches a night and then go to bed.
It's a great time to be a flight simmer!! The technology is awesome!! Simmers Unite!!! 🐦
I agree - I've been loading up on Orbx this holiday season!
So if aviation was your life, you are very small part of customers. Most of customers comes from gaming scene with different expectations. Try to provide X-Plane or P3D to current gamers... They will tell you that perfromance is terrible and graphics sucks
Imagine seeing all that in VR, its hard to believe it might be possible.

As long as they add realism and physics into the game then yes. I want the ATC.
One thing you will probably have to buy is a new computer that can even begin to run this new sim.
I retired from American Airlines (1988-2018) Captain Airbus 321, B737, B757, B767intl, MD80, CRJ 200/700, EMB 190, and numerous General Aviation... and I'm looking forward to this program.
There's nothing to talk about. This is going to be several levels better then anything else.
@Carpet Hooligan A lot of this is going to be based off of internet speed rather than actual hardware.
@Carpet Hooligan Correct, there is an offline feature. Just will take a large amount of disk space.
Gullible victim of marketing. Anthem, Fallout 76, Stadia...he bought them all....😂😂😂
I'm sticking with X-Plane, since it is truly a multi-platform flight simulator. I created an open-source free model of the BD-5J Microjet, and I didn't have to pay Laminar Research for the privilege of doing so.
quantumac , Xplane still has a lot going for it and wide appeal. 😁
Not a single Euro spend until MSFS2020 comes out. Enough was Enough!!!!
Exactly...i'm getting prepared (lol) ..actually an irony there...getting my bandwidth upgraded to the best, getting new yoke..honeycomb...and already have the 2060 graphics card...all set to go..

same here with x-plane 11.Ever since they kept sending updates I placed a hold on addons

If this sim is even 3/4 as good as they've shown and hyped it up to be it will become the new gold standard for PC flight sim software.
One thing I haven’t seen covered: is it going to have physical modeling of crash/impact damage?
Welcome, good question and one I don't think has been asked yet. I assume not or they would have been shouting about this already I assume?
(edited) a question totally UNanswered, of course...
Terra Incognita , hello, I share the same view, thanks for the heads up on the multi monitor limitation, I must have missed this.

And when vr happens, I will introduce him to it in this sim. Best wishes to all simmers.
Deja vu: I remember well those overwhelming pictures of the brandnew FSX, but he customer had to cope with terribly low frames. You can't get it all, promoses, promises.
Stephan Mach , so true 😁
Pressing k on the keyboard should go to a cut scene showing the pilot kicking the tires lol
I will abandon p3d,xplane all of other sims as soon fs2020 launches EASY!
Same here Cesar,i will abandon my current sim and all the addons i bought in a hartbeat for this sim !
If they deliver only 80% of what they promise, this will be the sim to go - no contest.
Exactly especially because i will only have to deal with add ons for one sim
And paying how much for an annual subscription x hobby Years?
Please, talk me through that one?
I've spent over a grand easy on FSX, P3D, and XP11 for scenery, planes, and utility add-ons. I say keep the hobby advancing, and kiss that grand goodby.
From what I've read, Tech Alpha 1 has been delayed about a month now. I don't mind hearing that, I would rather not have them rush. There's plenty of footage from the VIP event they had in WA that shows how the sim really looks.
On The Ramp Flightsim , hello and thanks for the update. Regards
I'll eat breakfast while playing FSX for some more hours ahead until FS2020 comes out.
Flight Simulator
From what I understand and correct me if I am wrong, this game (sim) will use TRUE multicore, that could be a game-changer. Most other games do not use multicore, this could improve the game performance significantly and if they are using the full power of your graphics card that will help as well.
mustang60348 , hello and I agree, this could be the first true multi core app for a mainstream flight sim. Regards. 👍
It‘s all about framerate. A good Sim requires a good framerate, otherwise it makes no sense.
web base sim just needs fast internet and a good pc
I have doubts about fps, so far I notice some stuttering on trailers released, and I imagine they use ultra powerful computers. I guess well have to wait to see.
When I recall good times in FSX, they’re always of missions. San Juan Island Run, Friday Harbor, Introduction to Mountain Flying. Just fantastic.

Regards
Flight Simulator is the best
What do we do with our old simulators? This will ruin the immersion of ALL of them if it delivers as promised. But without an editor to make a Lear go Mach 80 at FL 240 I'm still missing an aspect of X-Plane.....the EDITOR.
All this tells me is that I'm going to have to spend ANOTHER billion dollars on PC equipment that I'm going to spend the rest of my life "tweaking".
Wrong....try Google Earths FS right now with all settings on high and see how your PC does. FS2020 will have detailed panels but the scenery will be close to the same. A better vid card will probably be more important than a CPU.
@@bengus8148 Microsoft software is always light years behind anything Google puts out. I can run Google FS on my phone.. Try THAT with FSX!
Technically 12/31/2020 is still considered 2020 :) i would say we should wait patiantly, let the developers perfect it. About your question : If you invested 2000$ in Ms Fs98, you wouldnt move to Fs2020? thats the answer :)
I am using X-plane 11 but will not invest in any new aircraft or scenery. I will wait for MSFS 2020 System Requirements.
Usually requirements are the same: PCs bought 1 year ago will be OK but older than that means upgrade is a must
@@henson2k How do you know this? Please explain.

I haven't been able to find exact information yet as to what we will need for Flight Simulator
I just started building my home flight sim inspired by FS2020. I’ve only considered it before but now its finally good enough to make me go for it.
Flight Simulator
I am with you. Wait and let the bugs get worked out. I do not want to be a beta tester.
Dracollin's Walkthrough's , I could be wrong but I think we will not get details on specs until after March next year. Frustrating. Regards
Hello, I agree, exciting times ahead. Thanks for your views. Regards
The real question is. Can I fly over my house?
Hello, and your question has been asked by many ....and the answer from the developers appears to be....yes you can. Time will tell. Regards
SimHanger Flight Simulation wow thanks!!
Oui
I've heard people have tried that and the house IS there but it's a different building in place.
@@SimHangerFS can I crash it into my house?

@@davidshearer567 not that I know of. Xbox and PS4 have a basic flight stick Thustmaster hotasx I believe but that is pretty basic.
Get over yourself. Tin foil hat at the ready!!

i have put my moolah in my cockpit and new pc
Best video i saw from this subject so far, informative, with no hyped enthusiasms and delusions. Thank you.
Hi Daniel, thank you for your very kind words, been trying to keep the delusions under control...! 😂😂😂
It's already been confirmed that the sim will be available for purchase (aka no subscription required)
Bugs will make or break it. Don't release until its ready. But the beanies always say times up and push it out. We will see.
I will not money and be a Beta tester. Been there, done that.
Just give me a proper ATC...and im good to go :)
Agreed, not one mention up to now about realism in the cockpit, I rarely fly vfr, commercial night flights are my thing so I'm not jumping about this...yet!!.
@@robarnold4104 I am almost certain that PilotEdge will eventually support FS2020. ATC can't get more realistic than that.
Regards
What about military aircraft, something like FSX: Acceleration??
Nothing definite announced on this front yet. Thanks for watching. Regards
I hope they have guns I want to dogfight and shoot down 747's

Regards

@Mrlightning 101 Every month?

I don't mind having another simulator. I already currently use P3D V3 and V4.5 and XPlane 11. Depends on what aircraft I want to fly that day.

@@ellonysman , Hi Rick, I'm very much in the same camp, Xplane for VR until this is available in MSFS 2020.

For sure... FS9 FSX PREP... will be far behind FS2020... So no doubt about it... I'll drop them all!
Hope they have the same keybindings with the FSX ( F1-F4 throttle control, F5-F8 flaps control etc.) Can't wait for the release :D :D
Nice to see a fellow South African flightsim fan. Subscribing to your channel now!
No brainer, let the old sims go my friend. Seasons and VR will come at a later date most probably. New sim blows the old ones out of the water :)
Of course it already happened before with fs2000 and fs2004 and it will happen again...can wait for VR though!
Hi David, thanks for your kind words, on VR...I hope your right! That would make my day.
It will be a long time before anyone can compare to Flight Simulator
I think the game changer is that Microsoft Flight sim is being developed by an experienced game studio vs hobbyists.
featheredmusic , hello and yes I think the developer has a good track record. Thanks for stopping by.
We should all hope so!!!
Flight Simulator will be amazing
Word on the street is that RAM and bandwidth are the two biggest drivers of the visual experience at higher detail. We shall soon see. Also, you can see in some screenshots that there will be areas right next to each other that don't match well, data taken from different times of the year (greenbelts vs brown areas), clarity and lighting. This is due to the visual representation coming from Bing data, which is something that is very noticeable on the map website when choosing the satellite view. Hopefully some color correction can smooth this over a bit.
I really hope you don’t take this the wrong way but your age is a breath of fresh air! It’s always young people screaming into the microphone but I love your narration style!
whopperlover17 , thank you and no offence taken, I am well aware I am a “seasoned” flight simmer. 😁
Of course it's spot on, it's rendered from satellite imagery utilizing Bing maps. Anyone remember Tile Proxy?
I hope that Captainsim will participate in FS2020 because I love their oldies like the 707 and 727.
wa n , hello from one “seasoned” simmer to another. You broadband options make me jealous. Best regards.
Wauw, can't wait untill that new one gets available. Will wait with buying a new computer untill I know what hardware is needed.
Thank you for a very professionally made and well articulated video :-)
I've been with XP11 for a while and generally speaking I've been very happy with it in terms of flight modelling, graphics imagery, available freeware/payware addons etc.
Hi Alan, yes I agree, we may as well enjoy what we have got prior to release. 😀
It's impossible to get excited about MSFS2020 when we have no idea what PC I need to run it? How much bandwidth do I need to get these visuals? What do the lower level visuals look like? can I fly multiplayer with console players? Do I have to pay a subscription? How much does it cost?
It's a bit suspicious that this information isn't being released, I'm bracing for bad news on each of these questions.
launchedsquid , hi and I get the frustration....come on Microsoft, out with more details!
I’m certain Microsoft are going to be leveraging this tech all over the place once this is out.
The future looks great for the flight simulator community!! 🐦

@@davbhard Yes,this is what i remember,if it is just like that, omg,i am buying it.
Yes it's going to be even better than you think :-)
I can understand PMDG stopping X-Plane support. Flight Factor, SSG, etc. already have the Boeings that PMDG have products for in the sim and FS2020 is going to support and expand on the SDK that PMDG are already very familiar with. From a business view it does make sense for them to do it.
Hi Robert, very valid point and the Zibo mod in Xplane is as good as the PMDG 737 in Prepa3d in my opinion....and amazingly it is free! Best Regards
PMDG follows the money. Always.
Are you from PMDG? I recognize the attitude LOL
