So many comment's! I'll be replying to you ALL bit by bit, it will take some time, but it will be done! Thanks for all your insights and opinions. More to come on this! : )
Well not suprising that Microsoft left us in the dark for so many years. But now they are coming out with this new sim.they are banking on Google and there yrs of research. On mapping our entire world. Let's not forget the other countries that help them.but I don't have high internet speeds. The Taliban have better internet than here in Michigan. So were does that leave me.ill stick to x plane for now but I like what I see with Microsoft sim.
@@igvc1876 don't get me wrong .but you know microsoft let us down .now they want to come back. I always liked there sim ,But someone took over were they left off.I know that x plane will not sit idly by. and believe me they have been working day and night to fix X plane .competition will win in the end?
Oh yes, I agree with you, you are quite correct. It's the add-ons for lighting, sound - basic stuff that should be included with quality in the flight sim, that's all I'm saying. I think modding for Airports - Aircraft is vital. : )
@@ChrisVirgilio Wait so Microsoft is paying Microsoft money to use Microsoft services on Microsoft servers? You know they have easily sustained their online experiences by just letting members pay for Xbox gold. Now they have game pass as well, another continual stream of income for server potential infrastructure upkeep. The cost of running servers is dropping rapidly especially for already big cloud computing providers such as Microsoft who can put down the cash to build their own almost self sustaining server infrastructure. Furthermore I do not think Microsoft is erecting any new servers for this sim. They are already the fastest growing cloud provider in the world and the second largest cloud compute and storage provider. They probably have enough compute and storage capacity as is so they will not need to pay anything as such for the service they provide. It is far from guaranteed they will ask any subscription for the sim since the way Microsoft as a company is operating has changed.
Carpet Hooligan The servers are running regardless of MSFS being released or not. Furthermore they are already collecting money for Xbox online services via game pass and Xbox gold. I doubt someone would rely on a subscription to pay the initial development cost that’s what retail is for. So subscription is far from guaranteed. Subscription is needed if you need bespoke servers for your service. But MS probably doesn’t need them they already have the computing horsepower.
Things that need to improve in Xplane: Default available graphics, especially ground details. Weather effects Seasons ATC I am currently pulling terrabytes of Free ortho for Xplane for my local region so I can fly there in high details. It has taken days. It may have colour issues and missing tiles due to source problems at certain zoom level requested, etc. I could also avoid that issue and pay for it. It is awesome just to have this as a option. With MSFS 2020, it will all just stream and cache to my specific storage limit. It will hopefully not be trash quality since it is vetted and coming from the developer from one source that they control. We need something like that in Xplane. I am tired of either having to pay for stuff, or have variable quality for free add-ons. I don't want to have 20 add-ons running that have never been tested together and have conflicts, etc. I just want it to work.
Yes the ground detail does need improving but the weather is probably the biggest things as they have quite a good flight model now but the way the aircraft interacts with the weather is extremely important for realistic flying. XP needs dynamic weather that fully interacts with the aircraft.
I’m sorry if you rely on XP ATC what are you even doing when you have PilotEdge and Vatsim. Nobody serious about simming gives a crap about XP ATC. Yeah I said it
XP needed this kick in the pants and hopefully they will produce something that can compete with MSFS. They haven't been listening to their loyal fans and if this doesn't wake them up, nothing will. A good competition between both MS and XP would benefit us all.
I personally think that X-Plane won't even come close to making something as complex as this in the coming years. You have to remember that FS2020 took around 10 years to plan and create. X-Plane doesn't have the same amount of researchers to make something this amazing and complex.
Hello fellow Irish simmer. Great video. I completely agree with your points about X-Plane 11. Its crazy that we still need to buy add-ons for things like shaders, sound, headshake, seasons, clouds...the list goes on. And the worst part is that they completely ignore these points in order to continuously focus almost exclusively on the flight model which is already very good since a long time. Yes...this would make a good video.
@@stagger9660 Only way to rule the market is to make the market come to you... MS2020 is not out yet and we are already ready to sell our souls to have a copy of it.
@@RNPAR0.1 sure there is hype but that should be representative of what kind of sales it will receive. Now I don't expect it to sell like a cod game, but in the flight Sim market, this is a huge deal.
well that is sorta true. flight sims like il-2 and DCS will still be there and be for the people who want combat flight sims. But on the pure civil aviation market i think it will be nearly imposible for others to pull of if this sim is what microsoft really say's it is and i am hyped.
While it's impossible to know for sure right now I think a lot of people will be disappointed with the results they get unless they have very high end (aka very expensive) systems to run it on. People on lower end or even mid range hardware are not likely to get anywhere near the quality as the game footage we've been shown.
Well done Laminar research for sticking with it when Microsoft just abandoned flight simulation after FSX but really if 2020 is as good as it looks, it will matter big time!
Ye, there is no add-on wether engine that really works well for X-Plane. In fact... Sometime I get asked in the comments what weather engine I am using?... its actually the standard X-Plane... they've got to improve it! : )
@Martin Jansen I am going to assume you haven't flown P3Dv4.5 have you? It smashed XPlanes shaders and lighting with PBR and things like REX's new realtime shader and weather engines put XPlane out on the street in a cardboard box. That being said, the new MSFS, is going to put XPlane on notice. They will seriously have to up their sim to remain relevant.
Thank you for your balanced views, it's nice to see piece that doesn't have to be about one system scoring points over another system. Definitely agree with your views on the subject of add on software.
I started flying with X-Plane 11 cca a month before i learned about the new 2020. What surprised me about XPL11 is 1.The absolutely abhorrent default ATC, that doesn't have a slightest issue with sending you into a mountain, giving you nonsensical approach, then clears you to land only to revoke your landing clearance at the moment you touchdown. 2.How barebone it all really is. There's barely any debriefing after a flight. If you crash, there's only really very basic info about why that happened. I had to search for ATC plugins, moving map plugin, tablet plugin... I had to get a self-standing flight planning app, because doing it from the sim is a bit awkward. I kinda thought that these things should be there from the get-go. But i like the flying itself.
I used to be a hard core simmer when I was young, but then I started flying for real (A320 series) and since then I have pretty much stopped simming altogether (apart from the 6 monthly sim-checkride). However, MSFS2020 really interests me and I can see myself spending time and money on it. The more I read and see about it, the more I get the impression that this is the sim I had always wanted all those years ago. I guess time will tell.
@@GamingWithHasty Well, I don't think TH-cam is the right place to discuss private finances, but the company I work for payed for the type rating and all associated costs.
Austin's reaction is what I was hoping to hear. I feel like since they don't have true competition, they just do whatever they find cool. I honestly don't care that much about flight models and stuff as long as they have a lot to improve like the atc, textures etc. Hopefully now they'll be forced to improve. Also I don't get the hate against them, why would anyone wish that x-plane will die once msfs is out? Jeez people, we're the ones being spoiled here, just enjoy what you get.
...excellent and most fair and informed critique. Looking forward to following you! (Have you covered VR which is the journey I am about to embark on). Over and out from a veteran simmer from when Bruce Artwick enchanted us with little flying crosses.
He did look uncomfortable as soon as the subject of MSFS was brought up. Fidgety, slamming things down on the table...etc. That said, I believe X-Plane will be fine.
Thanks for a awesome Video You hit nail in the Head with standard items that should come with the Sim. Here is my list that X-plane can improve. Some my be repeated as lots of people might have the same views. 1.Airport Buildings 2.Airport interactions (Ground equipment) 3.Moveable Animated jetways 4.Weather in General 5.Seasons 6.ATC function that Allows you to control AI Traffic. 7.Better Autogen (cities) 8.Night Lights 9.Mesh needs more variety to prevent a repetitive at high altitude
I agree with Reaction Review at 17:15. All LR needs to do is mainly improve weather related, ice, rain, turbulence, clouds, sky time transitions, shadow jaggies on flight deck ( 17:21 ), etc in base product. I only use a few airports in so-cal on pilotedge so I don't need all the FS2020 worldwide visuals. Competition is good!
All other flight sims are in trouble because they don't have cloud compute. Microsoft's Azure cloud A.I. is why this game is even possible because the A.I. literally builds the environment based off the maps imagines and simulates the weather in real time.
Thanks for bringing the Laminar Research stream to us. Good attitude from them. XPlane needs to sort out the bugs. I stopped updating it after running into so many bugs. This mostly comes from all the addons which loose compatibility. I have SkyMax pro and it broke with 11.3 update, I run Ortho and the terrain often doesn't line up with the buildings. I often can't get into the custom weather menu because the button doesn't work. I bought the Cessna 152 and it doesn't render properly on one of my systems so I had to remove the passenger file. The sim is just too temperamental and all the addons don't help
So flight sims should intentially SUCK just so people can sell you thier shit that the sim should have had by default, like AI TRAFFIC and half decent scenery? Im sorry, no. FUCK THAT.
@@andrewchr what it sounds he says to me was "microsoft needs to cut features like global AI traffic from msfs 2020 so people have to buy it seperatly just so its fair for xp 11, and I say no, fuck that shit, msfs2020 should CRUSH xp and have all of the features you would expect out of the box so we dont have to buy them.
@@m0ther_bra1ned12 Yeah, your an idiot. So your saying that msfs 2020 should ditch features until its basically the same as xp 11??!!! How about FUCK THAT. How about msfs 2020 is as feature complete as possible ON RELEASE and the xp 11 team takes this as a kick in the pants to improve xp 11 up to (and maybe even beyond) the same standard? Maybe if these companies compete, we as the customers might win, hmmm?
definitely agree with you about the small addons, such as engine noise, lighting, etc. I think these should come with the main game instead of paying extra to get a better sound of a default airplane when its suppose to be an airplane simulator and should sound like or close to the real thing. Hopefully "they" the developers of flight sims will include these small but essential addons in the actual main game since most flight simmers usually rely heavily on visuals and sound for an immersive flight sim experience.
Yes and some of these add-ons from the XP community are relatively easy fixes that LR should have done themselves as it wouldn't take a lot of time or effort.
This will be an adventure to explore the world. That is what the other flight sims are missing. Just flying without having nothing to look at is boring when you have done it thousands of times. A "safari" from the skies is what this is and i am looking forward to it.
Great vid bringing it all together. Thought about this a lot lately. My prediction is that the new FS2020 if VR is going to explode in the way we’ve never seen before. VR could really take off not just for us simmers but for your average person who never cared for Flight sim. You say to someone that if you buy a VR headset and you can realistically fly around the world then I reckon it could take off just like Tomb raider back in the day. Super massive Supernova like explosion that brings the masses into flight sim. Watch this space it’s going to be a great year for simming next year but only if they capitalise on VR.
I guess the biggest problem for X-Plane is that Microsoft have two major advantages over them... 1) The opportunity to build from the ground up (no pun intended), so none of the legacy issues that X-Plane face (i.e. OpenGL). 2) I'd imagine that Microsoft have a significant resource pool of highly skilled, experienced developers to call on when it comes to graphics, so when it comes to routines for creating realistic water detail and so on, I can't think they'll spend too long scratching their heads.
Hey Gripper, Great video, totally agree with you regarding the sound immersion. I spent some time up the front as young lad in the good old days when you were allowed in the FD. A good soundset can be very nostalgic.(My old man worked with BA travelled a lot with him on the 400s) Anyways, sound immersion is so important to me and it is something devs don't get right sometimes. BTW got my PPL in WT about 10 years ago maybe our paths crossed. Love your content keep it up...
Thanks so much Martine! I'm delighted you got your PPL! Welcome to the club! Ye I don't understand they don't always get the sound right. I did not mention in the video, and I should have, that X-Plane did update the sound of some of there aircraft in XP11. But it's still an issue mostly. Thanks for comment and keep's coming! : ).
So what I'm hearing is MSFS2020 will run as intended with either an extremely powerful PC or with the new X-Box (NAVI, ray tracing capable, utilising GDDR6 as system RAM etc.) I'll wait for the early adopters thoughts and reviews and of course the outcome of the use of the new API in X-Plane 11 before committing to another new sim. Great video as always :)
In this day and age it has to support VR. Flight simulators in VR are the way of the future. No longer do you have to spend thousands of dollars to build a home cockpit when you can put on a VR headset and the realism is 99.99% there at a fraction of the cost. X-plane 11 in VR is absolutely incredible and I can only imagine where it could go from here.
things i would like to see improved in xplane : the option to flight plan from the home screen, load only the scenery that you're going to fly in. visibility above clouds bug. the colour grade. a career system, passengers, flight scoring etc. decent sounds AI traffic that doesn't drop my fps to 10. really excited for the new MFS but i wont be leaving xplane forever :D
I think you are absolutely right. The competition is good. X-plane have been ignoring their customer base for too long (ATC please??). That's a luxury they won't have anymore. I'll be very happy to stay in X-plane if it's as good as/better than FS2020. But I'll be equally happy to jump ship too.
FS20 will not have VR at launch... that is your opportunity XPlane! Make mind blowing vr! It sounds like they are up for a challenge... this is good for everyone!
RR - I think you are right. FS2020 will be another option for flight simulation, not an "Extinction Event" for the competition. When you have invested a lot of time and money in your current systems and you get great enjoyment out of them, why would you suddenly ignore them? Most of us will most likely purchase FS2020 and check it out, but I for one will not be abandoning my current sims.
Thanks again for another informative video! Looking forward to what Microsoft have to offer next year. Totally agree with your comments about Xplane, engine sounds, rain effects and weather should be available without having to buy add ons. Keep up the great work with the time Irish winter gives you. Don’t miss it at all! LOL
I ' f bought a copy of X plane for some years a go, but my problem as a novice pilot is setting up my flight yoke and start a simple flight. MS flightsim X is much easier to start with in the beginning, and also setting up my flight yoke....
HOLY FUCKING SHIT THAT ICING EFFECT IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! icing had never been a threat to me in x-plane possibly as it was not visual so i never had any idea i was icing up XDD
@@RJiiFin when they did their interview they were very adament PC first, *maybe* xbox. if it's been confirmed since, than I'm unaware and will take your word for it
Granted there are plenty of unknowns for Microsoft's Flight Simulator 2020, but if it can run reasonably well on higher spec machines and the next gen X-Box it stands to be the biggest game changer the flight sim market has ever seen. I say this as someone who remembers the early flight sims on Tandy TRS-80 computers. Basically this is the flight sim we all dreamed off, when staring at some lines move at 10fps on the screen back then. My feeling about the Laminar Research team, was there was some serious denial going on there. Yes, there will be niche markets that FS2020 won't address, but it will be at best a slowly declining market and there is simply no way that they can step up and take on the backend server support and resources Microsoft can throw at this game. I had hoped they would say that if FS2020 met expectations, they would put the considerable talent in that room into developing add on's for FS2020. Now its entirely possible they will and also entirely possible they are terrified that all that capital invested in X-Plane might be about to become obsolete, so they are putting on a brave face. Whatever the case, I hope that was just bravado and a hope to keep X-Plane alive a little longer and not really their thoughts on the future. If FS2020 performs as we are seeing in the demo's X-Planes end is already started and I say this as a Mac user too. It can at best stay a niche player with much reduced revenue streams and that isn't going to sustain their company as it is now. More concerning if the opinions expressed in that video stay the same, it will be the end of the company as they just wont adapt.
Remember plugins are outsourced work. Reduces code load for LR, and allows more businesses to get involved. Without outsourcing LR can not keep up with the core coding. Being a recently retired computer network engineer I have been a developer than changed over to hardware. I can tell you that the number one reason ALWAYS software is not the best it can be, the business does not allow the programmers the resources to modernize their code (LR is going through this right now with vulkan for example) and those in charge do not allow enough time to complete development - especially with the amount of project scope change that occurs. I want LR to get thier software to do symmetric multiprocessing. Remember, you can have more PC than XP can handle. I know LR is aware of this, and are working on it. It might be time for LR to setup a short term contract programmer team to accelerate the core development critical path. I really like, and respect LR. They have stuck it out, have a good product, and I will not leave them. Most likely I'll do what I did before; if the new MS FSim works on my PC, I'll run both. Wow, I think this is my biggest comment ever LOL. Sorry for the rant :-)
Hay Thomas! You make perfect sense! And Welcome to the Memberships! I don't know how I missed your comment 5 Months ago, but I'm replying to it now. I agree with you with regards to the modding community, it is very important! And when you say " those in charge do not allow enough time to complete development", you're exactly right, the chaps in the boardroom are only looking at accounts projections and always miss the point. Look at EA Games! Keep the comments coming, because it also contributes to everyone reading them. thanks again! : )
Well, you just opened up a can of worms for me. One of my issues with x-plane is getting Multiplayer, or better said instructor student flying in the same cockpit in x-plane. I struggled to get that to work since version 9 of x-plane and never could get it to work, now it works but not well. That is the problem it works but it doesn't do anything very well. I remember that I bought all of the components to make a g1000 panel on my simulator, and I did it successfully. With the help of one of my friends who was developing his business to produce G1000 systems and software. There was no X-plane support at all for it. I had to use P3D and/or MSflight that was not even supported by Microsoft any more and none of them worked well. We had to create numerous add-on software to make it even seem that it was working. So when 11 came out I call Austin Myers and discussed this with him. He was not very nice to me about it and told me that if I wanted an in home G1000 simulator I had to buy a FAA certified flight simulator and his professional key to make it work. Hey, I'm a poor pilot not a rich one. I scrapped together parts to make a G1000, and Austin Myers crushed my dream of it working. So I hope that x-plane gets crushed by Microsoft. Well, I take that back... I hope that Austin Myers gets off of his high horse and remembers that its us simmers in numbers that supports his success. He disappointed me and some day I may get over it. Problem is, I still fly x-plane the most and my g1000 is in the attic collecting dust because it was not supported. Now Microsoft may change all of that!!! I hope... We shall see:)
Swings & roundabouts I think x plane have it about right. Fair amount of freeware which is payware quality. You mentioned having to pay for a program that changes the way XP looks, but there are some very good free shaders plugins available for x plane. I believe its a good thing that there are independent companies /developers specailing in adding additional immersion, we as customers pay a little more, but end up with the best possible experience currently available. Independent developers coming together is the healthiest way forward imo
Agreed, although FSX was better for me than X-Plane 11. With ATC, FSX let you choose a response by pressing a number on the keyboard. X-Plane requires you to use the mouse and that is more awkward when you're trying to change airspeed, altitude, heading or simply reading back to ATC.
X-Plane won’t survive if they sustain the ala carte flight model. I’m tired of paying for what should be there already and worse the graphical upgrades aren’t usually up to snuff when compared with ORBX. ORBX is much better but still has houses and trees in the middle of roads, train tracks and lakes. I’m hoping the MS 2020 is the GLF we expect it to be.
XPlane will need to get there heads out of there bums. XPlane need to fix their graphics, their frame rate, the crap frame rates with crap out of the box scenery. Oh & did I mention the frame rate. Cool video 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
F/A 18 is Boeing now which ms announced as one of the 'partners', so I am optimistic that it could be included. Super hornet would be amazing, or a Swiss AF one, imagine flying that through the alps. Can't wait!
Hay Guy, I'll certainly include your comment in my X-Plane video! Please do comment on any changes you would like to see and I'll include them too! Thanks for commenting as always and contributing! : )
@@GripperSim I can't fault any of your videos. They are fun and informative. Just keep a spare bed for me when I pop over to Ireland. I'll bring my beast and we can fly together. 😂 😂 😂 😂
Hi Gripper, I agree that X-plane is already pretty good but the biggest improvement needs to be to their scenery. It's OK out-of-the-box and ORBX takes it to another level, where you can fly VFR at low altitudes and everything is there. That going to be the biggest difference next year and it's going to be pretty difficult for X-plane and ORBX to compete with the coverage of FS2020. I saw Austin say on TH-cam, a few years ago, that X-plane's revenue is $3M per year. Can you imagine what MS if throwing at this?!
As flight sim enthusiasts we owe MS everything! Thanks to Bruce Artwick and MS we got the first proper flight simulator. This latest offering was always inevitable once the tech reached the right level. In one fell swoop MS have pushed our hobby firmly into the 21st century, and we will never look back. Oh, and you (and me) armchair pilots are going to have learn how to fly properly now...;-)
Yes x-plane needs to realize this addon garbage needs to stop, and that could truly have a great sim once again...Sad that it's taking Microsoft to light a fire under there ass
@@GripperSim As someone that's never played a flight simple but interested in getting into the genra due to MSF2020 what are these add ons people keep mentioning.
great video, Austin said they have something coming in 2020,it better be good, there is no friend thing in this kind of business, Microsoft is taking all measures to stay on top, is either shape up or ship out, Laminar research has a solid platform I really do enjoy xp11...but if they don't heed the cries of the fans...their labor may just come to an end...go team xplane
I really love your videos but as far as information goes this one is about as useful as a rubber dinner LOL but always entertaining! Most of the information is fairly accurate it's just that some of it is skewed slightly from reality but for most of us I think you get the points across well enough.
MS FS 2020 graphics look amazing and, no doubt, XP will focus a lot of creative energy rising to the new "bar." But the weakest part of the current XP experience is IFR audio. Readback of ATC instructions should (can be) live. (To see what is currently possible, check out the "Flight" component of the Plane English app.) And, most importantly, users should have the "unable" option (declining a vector or instruction) when an AI aircraft receives identical vectors that put both aircraft in conflict. VFR flight planning with Flight Following and ATC interaction would also be a great training tool/add-on development.
Haha if you really think xplane or p3d can in any way compete with this, you’re delusional. They would have to rewrite their engines and that’s not going to happen
I totally agree with you on what should be standard with a sim together with the approvements you suggest for the next Xplane. There is no question that graphics need to play a massive part in that. Looking at the new MS 2020, they seem to have the mapping and depth spot on, not to mention all the cool weather and dynamic effects. Do you think there is an argument that Xplane 'Could' even do a free 11.5 patch perhaps with these upgrades to test the water, prior to launching a version 12? Who knows, but wouldn't be a bad idea though and would certainly boost people's confidence in the Xplane platform.
Nice one Graham. I'm sure they will listen to their audience and do the best they can. We must give them ideas on what we want I guess. I think that will be one of my next X-Plane videos. : )
That was my main wonder about xplane... did they finally put in atc? That is a must have for me. And yest I flew xplane 8 and 9. Was just so lonely in the skies with no ATC.
First let me say I love this , it's called competition and as Austin said it's capitalism at its finest. I will say that while Austin has a very nice home in South Carolina to do meetings in, the real work happens at their Skunk Works facility and they have A LOT OF BRAIN POWER over there. Now let's compare X-plane's brain power with P3D and Microsoft's French sub-contractor Asobo Studio. Starting with Asobo Studio and more importantly the Asobo conception engine, this is where their meat and potatoes are, but IQ and qualifications and experience for everyone in each design / dev team is more important. So here goes the head to head comparisons person by person within each department starting with where they went to college and if they achieved advanced degrees and then on to their professional lives and what each has done within each and every company they have worked for in their entire lives, year by year and also interviewing each manager / supervisor they've ever had, promotions , awards, and accolades to include peer reviews. We spared no expense drudging up this research, and it's all state of the art, top of the line, double-checked by Ernst & Young Global Limited (EY) And Human Resources of America LLP. It's been rated as the best Flight Sim company research ever performed to-date , back by LINKEDIN, and many other big players in the industry of fact-checking. So buckle up and here we go. Ok, so I'm kidding. But that's what would have to happen to do a head-2-head....or better yet, let's just let them churn out the results in the next year's worth of time....because that's what it's going to take to figure this all out. Yes, that's right, it will be next Christmas before we truly know where the proverbial silly putty will stick to the wall and for how long. But while it's happening, let's enjoy the banter.
Austin said the one word I was hoping to hear: "focus". "We will focus now instead of doing what we feel like doing." It was really weird the way he always said people just work on what they want to work on. So there are all these glaring omissions in the sim that a lot of people are clamoring for them to fix, and yet, they never addressed them. I am sure he will manage. But he will go back to being "the other sim" instead of being "THE sim." They are just a few programmers and Asobo and MS are 200+ people, on top of all the resources they get from using Bing, and the very powerful brand of "Microsoft Flight Simulator"... But that's all fine. There will be a place for X-plane AND the hobby will grow by leaps and bounds as they mention. Good stuff.
I have to admit Louis, they where so honest about it, it endeared me a little towards them and X-Plane. Its good to know they are not a big faceless corporation. : )
If you watch the latest FS feature Discovery video, he mentions adaptive framerate (adaptive timestep) i.e. the sim automatically adapts to your PC's fps and adjusts accordingly giving you almost perfect visuals in all situations.
Late to "the party" but: Both MSFS2020 and X-plane need a user mission editor (easy to use) for SAR missions and building/"daily helicopter work". Furthermore (IMPORTANT) we need option for PIP (picture in picture) or a camera monitor howing the ground BENEATH the helicopters (camera pointing downwards) and visible in cockpit mode. Noone find it amazing to fly in 3rd person view to use sling load, hook etc.
As to X-Box hype. Most standard games already have high FPS and Ray-Tracing on PC's,. The real test is on flight sims. That is where the heavy lifting is done. How will I software configure my home cockpit external hardware, for example, TPR rudders or RealSimGear 430 on X-Box?
But Microsoft flight simulator 2020 will also be available on the Xbox one because it is listed on Microsoft site for the keyboard and mouse compatibility list.
I think the tech MSFS2020 is talking about makes sense. I've messed about with google earth VR which has a similar server-stored earth data and generates the terrain on demand. It worked and looked about 80% as good as MSFS2020, and that's from an advert company with hobbies giving it away for free.
Potential improvements for x-plane: - Weather handling (more realism needed) - Physics (with the ground in particular) - Scenery (we want real sceneries, google street like, with seasons) - hard drive and memory usage (more of the data should be streamed) - Sounds (with different weather conditions in particular) - Economics (ala fseconomy) where you can buy, sell in game your planes, airports, oil platforms
for me its the weather and clouds . if they sort that out then im hooked for ever , i dont bother with scenery as im always at 37000 feet . get the clouds sorted
Yes, this game is expected to come out on XBox, but probably later than the PC Version. The XBox logos appear in Microsoft Trailers as the branding is shifting and the XBox branding is becoming synonymous with the overall Microsoft gaming environment/experience (XBox Play Anywhere/XBox on Windows 10 etc.). Hence, XBox branding doesn't necessarily mean the game will come out on XBox, however, in the case of MFS 2020 it is expected to come out on XBox (at some point).
The difference between a game console and a PC is that the console is only doing one thing, the PC is trying to do a hundred things. Also the architecture is the same on every console, and easy to take advantage of and customize, PC is all different. Just my two cents.
Xplane MUST improve its weather cloud textures and their lego ground scenery. These are fundamental prerequisites and are essential ingredients to make a vibrant flight simulator. I enjoy XPlane but find myself falling back on FSX and even FSW for a better weather and scenery package. If Laminar does not build on its foundation more and more people will eventually move over to MFS 2020.
First they need to change their API.You have xenviro for 70dollars with volumetric clouds but the perfromance is killing, so better we wait for vulkan maybe we see some improvements.
I have experienced the evolution of flight simulation since 1986. I understand Microsoft's strategy of making money. I have spent thousands of dollars on new versions of flight sims, add-ons and most importantly new computers to get the simulation to work well. Microsoft is in the business of making huge amounts of money. So expect some unpleasant surprises hitting your pocket or wherever you keep your money. I have reached the age where I have to consider whether I can afford to upgrade my PC. I am looking forward to X-Plane 12 and seeing if the little guy can compete with the Goliath in gaming. 2021 is going to be the Most interesting year.
I brought it up on X-Plane.org as a discussion point talking to scenery developer. I said MS FS development was obviously the future and I felt sad for all those that had worked so hard making scenery the old way (akin to Sketch-up and Google Earth years ago) and that I hoped Laminar were already planning a move to satellite scenery. I was immediately banned for 'trolling', so much for having a discussion!
The way I see it is the only way Laminar will survive is if they offer something that FS20 does not, or meet the same level as FS20, with a release of XP 12 maybe? or supply add on's for FS20 this coming year will be interesting for sure.
Very cool video. The hardware side ... interesting ... much of the scenery will come via the standard ethernet. I'm looking at a freesync/gsync monitor on a low-powered computer. The entire hobby has encouraged a personal IT configurations systems analyst. I realized with PMDG, it was simulating a computer within a computer. "Fascinating, Captain Kirk". Analyzing the new hardware requirements next to the checkbook - there's another challenge altogether. Hopefully, the budget will hold and nextgen sim will continue to fascinate. X-Plane is touting the new Vulkan/Metal release with 11.50 coinciding with the FS2020 timing. The Ortho4XP scenery is freeware and takes time to compile. Microsoft is going to stream it with a better engine on the ethernet with better autogen. From what I gather, they will also close the gap in the flight dynamics you mentioned, as X-Plane has advantage of currently (*it seems). So, it's interesting ongoingly as we can see. Overall, considering they didn't exist at all before 1995, flight sim and the ethernet et. al. continue amaze me with the ability to change the human experience to the benefit of it's condition.
Hi RR, Couldn't agree more about the con with add-ons. Bit naughty to say the least, as far as 2020 goes if it runs on my pc ,I will definately but it, no subs !!!. Being the plank that I am, I have had IL-2 for yearsand don't get the kind of presentation you and other simmers seem to get. Must have set it up bad. Anyway stay well look forward to Wed. Kind Regards and thanks for all your very entertaining hard work. Mike
Hay Mike! You are definitely not a plank. IL2 is a great sim! It's very hard to get the camera angles working with it, but that's the key, recording the cameras and views that IL2 provide. I just saw this message now! : )
What are the chances that the new MFS will evolve into a combat flight sim? Either via TacPack or as a separate product would be great. I find military flight sims much more appealing
I might be wrong, but my understanding is that consoles can perform with lower specs compared to PCs because they are optimized to run games. PCs on the contrary are relatively inefficient since their OS has to be flexible enough to perform in any scenario. So my prediction is that you would need to a PC with a higher level of specs to match the performance of a more modest console.
I would like to see a video of Austin flying FS20. Then I want to see his wheels turning...Then I want to see him push X-Plane 12 farther then he ever thought he could.
Reaction Review... why stutters at 19:10 while dollying camera view? This is what I am referring to about stutters in final output on youtube? XP desperately needs a WYSIWIG recorder. Thanks for great, always amusing videos. Happy new year!
Ye, I have a 9i and 2080 ti at the moment and it still does that. Very annoying! I'm delighted you enjoy the videos David. I may lower the settings a tad to get better FPS. Sometimes YT just does that and there is nothing I can do about it. : )
@@GripperSim I have a dual liquid cooled Corsair i160 i9 NVME 2080ti. Whenever I record it is always smooth "in-Game" but the recording output is choppy at times during pans from cockpit. I am looking for a solution. Experimenting with motion blur in free Davinci Resolve. If I come up with an answer I will leave a comment. Thanks for reply.
I agree with the comments on sound, in particular the AI sounds, there used to be an add on pack called FS Hotseat which did have a very good AI soundset, and Alan constables effort is far better than the basic sounds in FSX (I don't have X-plane so can't comment on it's contribution). For me, and I would guess may others, half the fun in simming is seeing and hearing other traffic, a busy airport is a noisy and exciting place, it should therefore look and sound that way in the sim. OK, I get we may have to have an external package for realistic looking traffic, but it wouldn't take that many sounds to be in the base game to connect such a pack up to.
So many comment's! I'll be replying to you ALL bit by bit, it will take some time, but it will be done! Thanks for all your insights and opinions. More to come on this! : )
I want to say thank you to xplane 11 for improving flight sim when the others were stagnant for 10 years
Exactly! Yes!^
X plane Started a revolution ,when Microsoft gave up.now X plane will prove they can Expand even more.
@@sergioalvarado6504 X-plane will die. No other possibility.
The big advantage with FS2020, is that we don't ever need time to do ortho4xp.
And we will be able to do just one things, flying.
I agree Eric! All these add-ons drive me up the wall. Thanks for commenting! : )
Oh yes, I agree with you, you are quite correct. It's the add-ons for lighting, sound - basic stuff that should be included with quality in the flight sim, that's all I'm saying. I think modding for Airports - Aircraft is vital. : )
You will pay for that, though. It won’t be free. Using Azure ain’t free, buddy. They will get you with a subscription, guaranteed.
Things that need to improve in Xplane:
Default available graphics, especially ground details.
Weather effects
Seasons
ATC
I am currently pulling terrabytes of Free ortho for Xplane for my local region so I can fly there in high details.
Terrific post, and 100% right...
Mike Roy a good reason to get MFS 2020
Yes the ground detail does need improving but the weather is probably the biggest things as they have quite a good flight model now but the way the aircraft interacts with the weather is extremely important for realistic flying. XP needs dynamic weather that fully interacts with the aircraft.
I’m sorry if you rely on XP ATC what are you even doing when you have PilotEdge and Vatsim. Nobody serious about simming gives a crap about XP ATC. Yeah I said it
I think it`s going to be «thank you and goodbye» to all the other sims.
Apart from those of us who live in the sticks, and have abominably slow internet speeds.
XP needed this kick in the pants and hopefully they will produce something that can compete with MSFS. They haven't been listening to their loyal fans and if this doesn't wake them up, nothing will. A good competition between both MS and XP would benefit us all.
I'm glad they recognise that Jack.. I have to say there response couldn't be more positive and truthful. : )
Yes, yes, yes!!! I could not agree more!
X-Plane has an uphill battle because they don't have cloud compute. MS's Azure A.I. cloud service is why this new flight sim is even possible.
I personally think that X-Plane won't even come close to making something as complex as this in the coming years. You have to remember that FS2020 took around 10 years to plan and create. X-Plane doesn't have the same amount of researchers to make something this amazing and complex.
@@torbsteyn They don't have the cloud computing. That's the key difference!
If the hype turns out to be true, there will be no other sims.....
When you make the ultimate flight Sim, it is hard for anyone to compete.
Xplane is going to have to improve the weather system dramatically. That's going to be the main game changer in the new MSFS.
Ye, there is no add-on wether engine that really works well for X-Plane. In fact... Sometime I get asked in the comments what weather engine I am using?... its actually the standard X-Plane... they've got to improve it! : )
XP's stock terrain looks stupid by comparison to this.
Those X-plane guys look desperate, whatever they are saying. I have bought x-plane btw. All the luck to them.
Thank you for your balanced views, it's nice to see piece that doesn't have to be about one system scoring points over another system. Definitely agree with your views on the subject of add on software.
I'm delighted you think so Brian! Thanks for your comment Its really appreciated!
How did you get the money for the ATPL plus type rating? Are you rich or did you get a lon from the bank?
@@GamingWithHasty Well, I don't think TH-cam is the right place to discuss private finances, but the company I work for payed for the type rating and all associated costs.
If only i had the same luck and companies that would pay all the costs and one could pay it later...
@@GamingWithHasty There are still some companies that offer a cadetship just have a look around
I just want to do some ridge soaring in 2020.
Thanks Andre! I'll do more on VR. VR is made for flight simming. : )
Sorry Austin looks nervous man!!!
He should be, he does not have an unlimited budget behind him like Microsoft
He did look uncomfortable as soon as the subject of MSFS was brought up. Fidgety, slamming things down on the table...etc. That said, I believe X-Plane will be fine.
Thanks for a awesome Video
You hit nail in the Head with standard items that should come with the Sim.
Here is my list that X-plane can improve.
Some my be repeated as lots of people might have the same views.
1.Airport Buildings
2.Airport interactions (Ground equipment)
3.Moveable Animated jetways
4.Weather in General
5.Seasons
6.ATC function that Allows you to control AI Traffic.
7.Better Autogen (cities)
8.Night Lights
9.Mesh needs more variety to prevent a repetitive at high altitude
When companies compete the customer wins
So flight sims should intentially SUCK just so people can sell you thier shit that the sim should have had by default, like AI TRAFFIC and half decent scenery? Im sorry, no. FUCK THAT.
@@m0ther_bra1ned12 lol read what he said! you just said the exact same thing.
Jesus Christ! Reading comprehension is in short supply around here! But then, so is the ability to write coherently.
definitely agree with you about the small addons, such as engine noise, lighting, etc.
It will be fascinating to see if they actually give you the whole world out of the box Rolf. : )
Hey Gripper,
Great video, totally agree with you regarding the sound immersion.
I think so too dtccpa.. VR in flight sim is under rated. : )
things i would like to see improved in xplane :
the option to flight plan from the home screen, load only the scenery that you're going to fly in.
visibility above clouds bug.
the colour grade.
a career system, passengers, flight scoring etc.
decent sounds
AI traffic that doesn't drop my fps to 10.
really excited for the new MFS but i wont be leaving xplane forever :D
I got xPlane and if this is what MS puts out, ill leave xplane and never look back
I think you are absolutely right. The competition is good. X-plane have been ignoring their customer base for too long (ATC please??). That's a luxury they won't have anymore. I'll be very happy to stay in X-plane if it's as good as/better than FS2020. But I'll be equally happy to jump ship too.
I'd say they will be releasing news in the coming months about improving many things with X-Plane. Thanks for commenting Stephen. : )
Exceptional informative video. Well done as always.
Thanks so much Bugeater! : )
FS20 will not have VR at launch... that is your opportunity XPlane! Make mind blowing vr! It sounds like they are up for a challenge... this is good for everyone!
Love the channel. Your vids are always entertaining and informative.
Wow, Thanks so much Brandon... it makes all the hard work worth it. Cheers man! : )

You do indeed have some good points Jon. Thanks for commenting! Keep'em coming! : )
I'd like both X-PLANE and FSMS to improve their default ATC.
Agreed, although FSX was better for me than X-Plane 11. With ATC, FSX let you choose a response by pressing a number on the keyboard. X-Plane requires you to use the mouse and that is more awkward when you're trying to change airspeed, altitude, heading or simply reading back to ATC.
Agree.
@Don WS4E True... I still don't understand why anyone will use AI ATC when you have VATSIM out there.
Great summary of whats going to happen 2020 on all flight simmers!!!
Thanks Aus! 2020 will be a good year for flight sims! : )
XPlane will need to get there heads out of there bums. XPlane need to fix their graphics, their frame rate, the crap frame rates with crap out of the box scenery. Oh & did I mention the frame rate. Cool video
👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
F/A 18 is Boeing now which ms announced as one of the 'partners', so I am optimistic that it could be included. Super hornet would be amazing, or a Swiss AF one, imagine flying that through the alps. Can't wait!
They have to put at least one fighter jet for sure
@@mro9466 Will it be DCS quality, we'll see.
X plane has to go top notch or else say bye bye to laminate research
Thanks for the video. I hope that the guys from Laminar Research also watched your video. Most of us don't want to buy another new sim.

Hay Guy, I'll certainly include your comment in my X-Plane video! Please do comment on any changes you would like to see and I'll include them too! Thanks for commenting as always and contributing! : )
@@GripperSim You put everything that you would like to see in a nutshell. 👌🏻
@@GripperSim I can't fault any of your videos. They are fun and informative. Just keep a spare bed for me when I pop over to Ireland. I'll bring my beast and we can fly together. 😂 😂 😂 😂
Austin is nervous as ever. Its hard for me to fly x-plane knowing this new platform is coming out.
Great “Give & Take” Pondering The Near Future of Flight Simming Expectations to come !!
Oh, and you (and me) armchair pilots are going to have learn how to fly properly now...;-)
I agree with you, the add-ons thing is really crazy.
Ye, there are jut too many! Hopefully MS2020 will see to this Ernestuz! : )
Yes x-plane needs to realize this addon garbage needs to stop, and that could truly have a great sim once again...Sad that it's taking Microsoft to light a fire under there ass
I agree some of the add-ons we need to get for X-Plane are just ridiculous. I understand airports, but lighting? Sound effects?
@@GripperSim I feel like the number of free planes is also a little limited.
@@GripperSim As someone that's never played a flight simple but interested in getting into the genra due to MSF2020 what are these add ons people keep mentioning.
Very well put together informative information
Love this teams reaction, this is good for the industry and competition is good.
What else could they say? They are out resourced heavily on this one!
great video, Austin said they have something coming in 2020,it better be good, there is no friend thing in this kind of business, Microsoft is taking all measures to stay on top, is either shape up or ship out, Laminar research has a solid platform I really do enjoy xp11...but if they don't heed the cries of the fans...their labor may just come to an end...go team xplane
😂 they have no plans - did not see this coming did you lads
They would have to rewrite their engines and that’s not going to happen
what if x-plane's physics engine will be better than fs 2020
Dice Jones Lul, did you see any of the discovery series ?
monkeynut ofc not !!!!
@@caribbaviator7058 zero change X-plane will survive.
A better, more immersive ATC experience would be great for any simulator.
Or ANY would be a good start
Live ATC is the only way to get that experience, but I agree that they all need to work on the in game ATC
That was my main wonder about xplane... did they finally put in atc? That is a must have for me. And yest I flew xplane 8 and 9. Was just so lonely in the skies with no ATC.
Very informative!
5:44 "The combination of the SSD and the Solid State Drive are really what gives you a totally new experience"
Lol what?
Adrian Borinsky lol I heard that too. Apparently there is a difference between solid state drives and the acronym
He said "SOC" not SSD.
Adrian Borinsky Check your hearing maybe? He said SoC.

I hope they make the new xbox vr compatible if its gonna b powerful the way they saying
I I agree, I want you to make a video on list of complains, glitches, and improvement scopes in xplane 11.
Thats a good point Harpoon. Thanks for commenting! : )
Delighted i found ur channel... tho now im looking at 2k+ for getting a pc set up for DCS.....
If you watch the latest FS feature Discovery video, he mentions adaptive framerate (adaptive timestep) i.e. the sim automatically adapts to your PC's fps and adjusts accordingly giving you almost perfect visuals in all situations.
very very nice and on spot video. everything you say is true. keep it up
Thanks Mike.. more to come! : )
Late to "the party" but:
Both MSFS2020 and X-plane need a user mission editor (easy to use) for SAR missions and building/"daily helicopter work".
2020 will be a very exciting indeed for us simmers.
It will! I can't wait! : )
@@GripperSim has the release date for MSFS 2020 been announced? Need to ship the wife and kids away for a week. ;-)
@@thegoodvibesrelaxationstat8442 No word except 2020 : )
But Microsoft flight simulator 2020 will also be available on the Xbox one because it is listed on Microsoft site for the keyboard and mouse compatibility list.
I know... I just can't seem to get my head around it working on an XBox one. When it works on an XBox one like the videos, I'll heat my hat! ;;;)))
I think the tech MSFS2020 is talking about makes sense. I've messed about with google earth VR which has a similar server-stored earth data and generates the terrain on demand.
It worked and looked about 80% as good as MSFS2020, and that's from an advert company with hobbies giving it away for free.
Fascinating Mr00Ted!
Potential improvements for x-plane:
- Weather handling (more realism needed)
- Physics (with the ground in particular)
- Scenery (we want real sceneries, google street like, with seasons)
- hard drive and memory usage (more of the data should be streamed)
- Sounds (with different weather conditions in particular)
- Economics (ala fseconomy) where you can buy, sell in game your planes, airports, oil platforms
You seem to know better. What do you suggest apart from trolling?
for me its the weather and clouds . if they sort that out then im hooked for ever , i dont bother with scenery as im always at 37000 feet . get the clouds sorted
Thanks Alex! I
Great video and I do agree with you
The future does look bright
The difference between a game console and a PC is that the console is only doing one thing, the PC is trying to do a hundred things. Also the architecture is the same on every console, and easy to take advantage of and customize, PC is all different. Just my two cents.
Thats a good point Aaron. Thanks for commenting! : )
My i7-9700K 8-core + RTX 2070 are ready for it
FINALLY A MICROSOFT SIM WITH MULTICORE RENDERING... the killer of FSX
X-Plane definitely need to improve the 2fps reflections on the aircraft and the dull/repetitive scenery and auto-gen
Checkbook? What's that?

Ye, I have a 9i and 2080 ti at the moment and it still does that. Very annoying! I'm delighted you enjoy the videos David. I may lower the settings a tad to get better FPS. Sometimes YT just does that and there is nothing I can do about it. : )

I’m a flight sim fan and I’ve tried XPlane and it’s just not my preference and FS 2020 is gonna be huge.
