  • It's my first Batman experience, and I am hooked already! Thanks to everyone who recommended the Batman series, I absolutely love this dark gritty world we're getting into. I'm a few episodes ahead with recording, but there are some unmissable moments coming up, experiences and feelings I've never had with a game before! Stick around, enjoy the whole series, and you're all welcome to become a part of this community.

One place to start is Batman the animated series.
And Gotham is pretty good too.

The best place to start is by watching Batman: The Animated Series and when you're finished with the first season, the tie in movie Mask of the Phantasm. Not only do they feature 3 of the voice actors in this game, but the animated series and the film are widely regarded as the BEST Batman thing ever. From there on you can move to whatever you that suits your mood.

So, Victor Zsasz's origin is very connected the major Batman villain Penguin. Victor Zsasz had a loving, wealthy family and graduated top of his class in college, later going on to amass his own fortune of his own through various companies. At the age of 25, his parents tragically died in a boating accident. He inherited millions of dollars, but missed them very dearly and while he eventually accepted what had happened, Zsasz could not help but feel depressed at their loss. In an attempt to distract himself from his growing depression, Zsasz became swept up in high stakes gambling. He neglected his companies while gaining, and just as often losing, huge sums of money in card games. One evening, he ended up playing poker in a Gotham City casino known as the Iceberg Lounge which was under the ownership of the Penguin. He eventually worked his way up to the owner's table. He kept winning hand after hand. Little did he know that the only person who won in the Iceberg Lounge was the owner, Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin. It all came to a head in one game, in which Zsasz bet everything to his name in a game against the Penguin. When Zsasz laid down his cards, Penguin laughed and laid down and won the game (Cobblepot cheated during that game). Zsasz lost all of his money to Penguin and was thrown out of the Iceberg Lounge penniless.
After that, he wandered the streets crying. It was then that Zsasz realized that his life was empty, driven by desire and that no amount of wealth could change the hollow person he had become or give any meaning to his life. He fled the Iceberg Lounge, eventually making his way to the Gotham Bridge and prepared to jump off. As Zsasz contemplated suicide by jumping off the bridge, a homeless man threatened him with a knife, demanding his money. Zsasz became infuriated, took the knife, and held it to the man's throat and, upon looking into the homeless man's eyes, realized he was just as empty as he himself was. Zsasz had seen in the man's eyes the same thing he had felt, "nothing" and that only death could ever save him from his own emptiness. Something overcame Zsasz and he then proceeded to stab the man to death as a "gift" for saving his life. Zsasz felt pure euphoria afterwards. Suddenly, without thinking, he carved a mark into his own arm. From then on, he dedicated himself to "liberating" others from their pointless existence and often refers to victims as "zombies".

Yes, your guesses mid-video were all on spot : for keeping the combo on, you have to land all the hits, a hit in the wind is a combo breaker. And you'll have a short period of time between two "movements" (not just the hits, but counter, stuns, quick gadgets, and evasion. You always start with 3 consecutive hits , then each hit will bring down an enemy, forcing you to continually move from one target to another. You can use your ground takedown mid-combo, but be aware that it is a move that takes time, and let you vulnerable to attacks, so if there is other enemies nearby, you'll most certainly get hit and break your combo.
So basically, the fight system is a rythm game, with the twist that it's up to you to choose which button to press by analyzing environmental cues.
Also, you may have noticed it while editing, but it's not just the glide kick that made an enemy drop his weapon. Each time you knock an enemy to the floor, he will drop the weapon he is carrying, and it works for guns, electric staffs, clubs, etc... But as you probably also have figured out, unarmed enemies can grab weapons fallen on the ground. The only exception being the knives, a knives enemy will keep them even when put down. And as it's kinda confusing (why everything except the knives ?), they changed it for the next game, and knives will also be dropped when you'll down their bearers.

As far as live-action movie order goes, I'd say go from Tim Burton's first 2 Batman films, then the Nolan Dark Knight trilogy, if you're still hungry for more (and a totally different take on the character), Adam West's 60's Batman film, and lastly Joel Schumacher's Batmans if you want more laughs.
Batman started as pretty dark and gritty, then in the late 50's and 60's, they turned him totally camp and goofy (as with other superhero comics of that era) which culminated with the Adam West Batman show and film that defined the character for years. I hold a special place in my heart for Adam West batman because he could be downright hilarious, but eventually the character returned to his darker roots, and Tim Burton took advantage making Batman '89. Burton defined the gothic, old-school aesthetic of Gotham that is used to this day and in these games, mixed in with a touch of camp left over from the 60's. After that, Joel Schumacher took over and made two sequels that returned Batman back to total camp. Some people think those movies suck, but they never fail to make me laugh. Later, Christopher Nolan took over and made Batman realistic and took him back to gritty. His version didn't have the style of Burton, but people consider them the best written films of all of them. Then, there's the animated TV show and films (some of which feature Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill) that are also fantastic, but I'm kind of tired of typing, so I'll let someone else recommend those.

28:33 You're trying to counter when there's no one to counter. I get it though, reacting is a habit I had to stop doing too. 😅 But yeah, you gotta keep punching them to keep a combo going. If you can't punch anyone, try evading, it keeps the combo up for a little while longer. Also to get a critical hit, punch, then wait a little bit, then punch again and it'll say "x2 Critical Strike".

It has been so long since I played this that I forgot just how amazing the story was, especially with all the embedded lore. I am REALLY enjoying watching your playthrough. As far as starting points for gaining Batman world knowledge, I agree with the many others that say to watch the Batman animated series. Don't be put off by the fact that it's a cartoon. The writing and atmosphere are absolutely superb. I firmly believe it is the best written animated series ever (possible bias).

PRO TIP: If you wanna extend your combo meter for as long as possible, performing a dodge roll will actually prevent the combo from resetting! It's something I've learned over the years of replaying this game lol. Jumping over guys with your dodge roll ALSO prevents the combo from resetting. It's been so rewarding to see you slowly but surely grow in skill and mastery of this game's combat! ❤

There is a secret room in the Warden's Office by the way. One of the walls can be exploded out, but you need three explosions to open it. It does not appear on any map, Riddler or otherwise. It contains an easter egg for a future game in the series, and it took years and one of the developers to basically tell people how to find it before anyone ever did.

The Sonic Baterang is great for Predator rooms.
If it's fired into a walkway, it will cause the nearest henchmen to head to it's location to shut it off (providing they are not investigating a body). The point is that if they are all grouping together you can use the Sonic to make one Henchman go to the other side of the map for an easy silent takedown.

  • @christianfrost8660
    @christianfrost8660 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

8:20 Since they were looking in the same direction, you were meant to take out the henchmen closest to the door first with a Silent Takedown since he was the one that isn't being watched by any other henchmen.
Also when a Henchman is on the ground you must use the Ground Takedown which is the right trigger and the Counter button.

When you enter the Warden's office, on your left, There's a secret room in the Warden's office where if you blow the wall multiple times at just the right spot, you'll find it. For those 3 goons you were having trouble with, I would've just simply done silent takedowns. You need to can Clayface. He's a riddler riddle. Don't forget to use ground takedowns. At 45:51, the gun in the case is a riddle. The room you entered at 57:24 is the Calendar Man riddle. And the Ice cell is a Mr. Freeze riddle
As for comics, I've been trying to collect the Arkham comics that are apart of the Arkhamverse for my collection, those would be good for you. Then there's the Long Halloween, Death in the Family, Knightfall, The Court of Owls, The Dark Knight Returns comics

3:15 -- Scarface is not in any live-action movies, but he's been in a few episodes of Batman The Animated Series. As you know, three prominent actors from that series are in this game -- Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Arleen Sorkin. (to let you know, Sorkin doesn't voice Harley in the other Arkham games)
36:30 -- after you've found all of the Arkham chronicles, come back to this room.
38:35 -- you might want to scan that guy behind the glass. In fact, if ANYTHING seems to stand out, scan it -- it'll likely be the answer to a riddle. Even if a riddle doesn't appear on the screen, the riddle itself is still in effect. (for example, the big Tommy gun that was on display, after the first room with Harley)
1:07:24 -- that guy is dead.

For the henchmen with stun sticks, what you did in 24:45, the jump / Evade move, as you can see you can use to jump over Henchmen. In order to safely hit Henchmen with Stun Sticks, you must hit them from behind.
Jump over them the hit them.

Yeah Asylum is a low-key horror game. I always get chills walking through the maximum security wing knowing all those inmates are going to be released soon. Ivy is one of the examples that Batman’s enemies aren’t so clear cut with their crimes. Sure she is more than happy to kill humans but in her way she is protecting life plant life but still and its shows her conviction in protecting something like Batman does.

19:54 "They both lost their guns because I glid kicked?"
Nope. The first guy lost his gun, because you glid kicked him. You then immediately kicked the next guy causing him to drop his gun. Enemies will drop their guns once you've knocked them down. However, with the guns on the ground it is now possible for any other enemy to pick up the guns and start using them.

40:01 There's a story about this character being in the game but I can't remember exactly what it is. I think this was someone in real life that won a contest, and the grand prize was that the developers made a character that looks like him in the game. Or this is one of the developers like the director or something and the team thought it'd be funny to have him in the game somewhere.

38:07 That is the Batman villain Clayface. His name is Basil Karlo. He was an actor in horror films who tried to kill the cast of the remake of one of his films but he was stopped by Batman and Robin. He later gained the ability to transform into a living pile of clay and can look like anyone. The sign next to his cell says that he is impersonating other personnel. You should really scan him because it'll help you learn more about him because his backstory is pretty convoluted.

It has most of the same voice actors from Arkham Asylum and also has a lot of villains that haven't appeared in any of the movies, including Scarface. It looks like you haven't upgraded any combat moves or multipliers. The thing about the Arkham combat is that the better you perform, the more XP you earn and the faster enemies go down. The key is to maintain momentum which will allow access to finishing moves (such as breaking their limbs) and make Batman a very efficient fighter that he literally swings from one thug to the next like a pendulum. If you feel compelled by that I highly recommend upgrading your combat abilities.

I'm not as experienced with the comics as the movies. But for this set of games, I would say one comic that you should read is "The Killing Joke." The games seem to be set around that book in particular. It's a *possible* origin story for The Joker and includes the story of when Joker shot Barbara Gordon. There is an animated movie of The Killing Joke, but don't watch that. It's not as good as the book.
I say "possible" origin story for the Joker because there is no "official" origin story for Joker. He doesn't even truly remember who he was before becoming the Clown Prince of Crime.

On language, I think (and I mean no offense to what you said) it’s an easy an excuse to blame the internet and online, but every generation has had something that makes language more simplistic. That said, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using pared down language in different situations, I very much ascribe to the mode of thought that Stephen Fry so wonderfully expressed about language and also a beautiful “murdered by words” essay against pedantry and its followers. The ones who had apostrophes to signage in the wild, the so called protectors of the written word, their methods being worse than the abuse of the English language.
If you get a chance, have a google and look up Language by Stephen Fry, there’s a lovely kinetic typography video someone made to go along with his words on the subject.

Movies for Batman. I'd say start with the 1989 Batman film, and then I would go with the Nolan trilogy: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.
I'd also recommend Batman: The Animated Series, and with that the animated movie The Mask of The Phantasm. The animated series is great because it shows either the villains' origin stories and/or the first time Batman encounters them. The Ventriloquist is in the series, so you get to see them in action.
There are a bunch more movies, but they aren't as good. Batman Returns the sequel to the 1989 movie and Batman Forever would be others to watch, but not as necessary.
