The great thing about your style, Sir, is that no matter how a place or event may seem ordinary, or uneventful or boring to some, you always have have this natural way in your storytelling that provide importance to the place or event. Thank you for your work, Mister Daot
Kumander, Glad you enjoyed a wee tour around Subic Bay, we hardly scratched the surface of this amazing area of the Philippines! 🇵🇭 You're now a member of the Bunker Busting Boys!! Im still recovering from that damn cat! 😅
Ansel Subic and NAS Cubi Pt were US Naval Base with sailors and had US Marines on base also. The housing was for sailors and Marines families enlisted and officers. I was station there in 1978 to 1986.
This video was super cool to watch! I grew up in Subic Bay as an Expat, but was not a military brat. Every few weeks I find myself looking at new videos of Subic Bay to see how things have changed. Loved how informative this was, even I learned something new.
This is the kind of attention Subic deserves. Thank you. It is a very special place. It's naturally (and hauntingly) beautiful but even more so is it's unique history. It's sad how Filipinos ourselves forgot about it. Yes many of us are unaware now of its story (also Clark). I deeply wish they went on operating. I know how beautiful they were in 1992-2000s just as they closed when my dad took us for "Duty Free" family trips. I was wide eyed and fascinated of this other world which I later learn to be the "western" world, where eveything is gorgeous and well laid out with beautiful unexpected american quirks to everything. They had all the fastfood we didnt have back then and the duty frees had all these cool alien toys. I fell in love with Subic as a kid and now its depressing to come back and see its state realizing what it could have been if the Navy hadn't left. Ps. U a great opera singer didn't expect that!
Like Subic Clark Airbase has also a lot of abandoned US facilities like the haunted hospital . The last strongholds of US and Phillipine forces during WWII are Mt. Samat and Corregidor Island .
Anselm you have the tenacity and determination to bring Subic Naval base on the screen for us to remember and that it has a significant place in Philippine history !! Thank you. 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
Malt vinegar on french fries (chips) is the best! We here in New England still hold true to the English way of eating them, although the younger folks tend to more commonly go with ketchup nowadays. Still yet, malt vinegar can't be beat. It's amazing to see how quickly things fall into decay when uninhabited. You might like to know that Quonset huts originated here in Rhode Island at the Quonset Naval Air Base during WWII. An interesting fact is that the original huts were designed so that all the materials necessary to assemble each one was contained in its crating (including the crate itself), which they were shipped in overseas. There was no waste or excess. Davisville was the joint base with Quonset and the base where the Navy's Construction Battalion (C.B.), hence the name Seabees,, were trained. My Dad trained there and was later deployed to Okinawa towards the end of the War. The bunkers that were buried, seemingly built into hillsides, that you were exploring would most likely have been used to store munitions to make them harder to spot from the air and to give them additional protection from bombing from the air and shelling from ships, or land based guns.
Lived in one of those quonset huts, with the US Navy, back in the day. The base was always very well maintained, sad to see the state it is in now. Great vid
You're more of a mountain man KD. Your vlogs in the cordilleras and mountain province was euphoric for me. I say those vlogs shows the real you. Any who I support you where ever you go. Stay safe always man love your vlogs.❤
"I remember staying in one of these barracks back when I was a cadet. Good times! We used to jog every morning and do the rounds from Jest Camp to Crown Peak after class. Great memories! It’s sad to see that this place isn’t maintained anymore."
Whenever I go there back in the 90s, I used to walk to National bookstore while buses and taxis would go around to places where its hard to access. There was also a sport center around there. We played tennis when we can and hang around to watch others play football or baseball, but we rarely go around the whole base since you really need transportation to access most of it. It sad everything ended up abandoned, including other establishments, houses and many places that could have been maintained. A lot has change by now. I kinda miss the old days since its quiet and less people. And I miss the tennis court and the squash building.
Wow I never knew those structures still exist today in Subic. A piece of history itself. Sadly all left forgotten in ruins. Our government should have maintain these place and turn it into a tourist spot. So that US veterans who have stationed here before could visit and bring their family and take a glimpse of how it is during those days.
Kamander Daot, if you heard of the Morong Refugee Camp that s part of the history of the Vietnam War .. The S Vietnamese people escaped after the N Vietnamese took over the South . Thus many escaped to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines in boats.. Many landed in Palawan and many were brought to Bataan as part of UN refugee relocation.. That would be very interesting destination to see and also the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant thats constructed in Morong.

it's nice to see they didn't remove those old structures/bunkers, just let mother nature do the rest. having those overgrown plants, bushes, trees around really tell the age of those structures, gives an eerie vibe great for 3am ghost hunting challenge.
I was stationed in those quotson huts back in 91-92 when I was with 3rd Battalion 9th Marines. If it's the same ones the camp was III MEF Camp Tamez. Also known as Upper MEF
It’s no longer part of U.S. jurisdiction… It’s Subic Freeport zone , hotels , condos’s , resorts, restaurants, stores , mall’s you name it ! No more chance to ever be a military base again .
We were there in April for a few days, and we had a friend provide a driver who took us around the bases. We were able to find our two on base houses we lived in from 1982 to 86, and 90 to 92 before the bases were closed. As you noted, we wanted to see the old Naval Hospital, but the gate was closed, and the guard wouldn't let us in. My son was born there in 1984. There was a lower and upper Camp MAU which if I remember could hold up to a few thousand Marines off the amphibious ships when inport for training and R&R. For those that had the opportunity to actually be stationed in Subic/Cubi Point, it was the best location for what the area offered the Fleet and got us to travel in the Philippines.
Lack of maintenance I love it when it was still a Base it smell and looks good I worked for an American family before down Easy Street in Binictican housing AMPING !!!
So much was lost when the US left the Subic Area. Filipinos didn’t have need nor resources to use what we left behind. They privatized much of the area. People have to remember it was an operational and maintained military facility when we left. Our lease was terminated and status of forces agreement was altered. What we see today was likely the only viable solution to fill the gap in income…They turned much of the main base into a tourist area…Cruise ship terminal and hotels….How successful it has been is debatable. It can be argued it’s the most successful in the Philippines in terms of US bases being reutilized. The legacy that we as Americans left behind isn’t great in Olongapo. Hopefully when we return, it’s likely, we will have enough sense not to abandon tens of thousands of unrecognized children.
No need. There are numerous modern schools around the area closer to the entrance of the base. My two children were schooled there when I retired from the Navy and relocated in Olongapo.
You two are hilarious😂 both daot😊 and as usual, another mazing video like Exploring with Josh 😊..another page of your history adventure book. Thanks KD.
One reason why Subic naval base abandoned structures still exist. Is they weren’t looted bare when the American left. Credit would be to protecting to secure the site to Sen. Dick Gordon who was Mayor of Olongapo then. On the contrary Angeles air base was just pure chaos. The looters stole everything not bolted in. It was open season. You could furniture and appliances left from cheap at Dau market. The mayor of Angeles city didn’t do anything to secure the site. The press were showing videos of looter coming in and out of the base with stuff.
Amazing area----the Korean owned Hanjin Shipyards were bought out by and by a US private equity group Cerberus and Australian ship builder Austal. Austal has been building ships on the west coast of Cebu for years. Part of the Subic area has been leased by the Philippines Navy. The rumours of the US navy coming back to take over the base are not true but have some foundation with an agreement that they can have use of some services at Hanjin
Its good to leave these ammo bunkers just like they way they were .. It reminds us of the Cold War era of the once mighty US naval base outside the CONUS. And heres where the US marines trained in jungle survival skills just as the US army special forces were also trained in Vung Tau Recondo (Reconnaissance Commando) School in SOuth Vietnam during that time. .
Wow, pretty cool place. Anyways, careful reaching and poking inside holes kumander, kinda like you did on @8:32 . You never know if a venomous snake is inside chilling

Those quonset huts will last forever! Down the road from me (florida) there's a piece of land that has an oooold one on it. Some guy bought the land a few years ago and converted the hut into a really nice home. Its seen many hurricanes and wet, humid summers but it's still solid as a rock.
