  • This brochure is for the 1956-on Austin A35 van, AV5 type, of 1956 onwards. It replaced the outgoing A30 van, and through various revisions continued in production alongside the similarly-powered A40 Farina saloons, until early in 1968 (the A35 saloon having long since gone out of production).
In all, there were three (well, four...) key versions of the A35 van during its production run, beginning with the AV5, then the AV6, and finally the A-AV8 which was available with two engine choices. The differences between the different vans are described in this video.

My dad had a blue1959 A35 van (between 62 and 66) fitted with rear seats, but as kids we'd often be sat on the floor in the back when full of passengers!.

As a child in the fifties my father was thinking about buying a brand new A 35 van .As a boy I was very excited about this.Back in the fifties not to many working class families could afford a car of any kind, and here was my father thinking of of buying a brand new van.I remember looking at the brochure he brought home.He was thinking of a van because he couldn’t afford the car version. Our family transportation at the time was a motorcycle and sidecar ,so it would have been an upgrade.I was very disappointed when he decided to buy a 1948 Vauxhall type J14 instead.

@3.20, Stainless steel waist line moulding on rear quarters & doors, AV6 still retained the L.C 948cc engine, AV6 ran from Feb 62-Sept 62

IIRC Austin offered a rear seat kit for the vans, as did third party companies I'm sure 👍😀

The same as Kevin my father bought a new A35 van (grey) and put rear seat in it where my brother and sister sat I was put behind the rear seat on a piece of foam, had we ever been rear ended I would have been squashed, I also recall it had no heater and only the trafficators, if dad gave permission we were allowed to turn it.
