  • Taking a ride on a classic trolleybus has been on our "to do" list for some time, and a recent visit to the excellent East Anglia Transport Museum enabled us to do it.
The trolleybus in question is an ex- Derby Corporation Sunbeam from 1960, with Roe (Leeds) coachwork. Powered by electricity from overhead power cables, the ride was so smooth and quiet, such a contrast to the noise of a diesel-powered bus but without the flexibility of routes available with the latter, which led to the demise of the trolleybus. This example served until 1967 and is now preserved along with a number of other trolleybuses.
We highly recommend a visit to this transport museum, where rides on a trolleybus and on a tram are available. There are also numerous classic cars, commercial vehicles and related memorabilia on display, along with re-creations of garages, a taxi cab business, an old post office and shop, and much more besides. A video describing the museum as a whole has also been uploaded now: • Our visit to the EAST ...
It's located in Carlton Colville, close to Lowestoft in Suffolk, East Anglia, UK.

Thanks - that's a great video. I'm going to visit soon - it's been on my list of places to visit for years.

It was a real pleasure to catch a ride on this 1960 trolleybus. Do you remember riding on trolleybuses "back in the day", or are you involved with their preservation today? If so it'd be great to hear from you in the comments section below. If you're interested in this kind of thing, please like, subscribe and click the notifications bell to be notified of future uploads to this, the Old Classic Car TH-cam channel. Thanks for watching! I've also uploaded a video describing the entire museum - worth a watch: th-cam.com/video/m8f_ryMO1_8/w-d-xo.html

Thanks for posting. As a kid I rode on trolleybuses. Apart from the older ones which could be a bit jerky, they were smooth, quiet, had great acceleration, could climb hills easily and produced no fumes in the street. Their passing was mourned by many. The Derby vehicle is almost one of the last trolleys to be built.

Interesting, thanks for that, yes I believe the one we rode on only served between 1960 and 1967 before being pensioned off. Keep an eye on the channel as I'll do a video about the museum as a whole shortly, including a ride on a preserved tram. RJ

The beeping is when the trolley passes through a dead section in the overhead wiring
