It’s not painful to the legs if you do properly. I do Hopak dance but if you land on your foot improperly you get strain. I know from experience, I landed wrong a lot.
Ambitious young kid, I use to do it as well at his age but then I kicked a little too hard and I hear the loudest pop echo in the air, I had broken my knee and had to get surgery, I wish I could still do it.
