I can't get enough onion burgers/depression burgers. Even in just... watchin' people make them. The bring me so much joy, cheap to make, utterly delicious, and not hard to accomplish. They take so little and give so much.
I’m always about 1 yr. Late for everything… I just got an early Father’s Day gift of a Blackstone griddle doo dah!, I’m making These burgers for dinner tonight. I’m so stoked for my new Blackstone, this will be the 1st cook after seasoning the griddle! So Stoked!!
Love making onion burgers! I need a deli slicer, but I use a mandolin for the onions. Cheaper alternative if folks don't want to go out and buy a deli slicer. Another great vid, Tom!
This is the first time in years of watching food videos, that I caught myself opening my mouth when he went to take a bite. Holy cow, I’ll be making these today!
@@allthingsbbq I’ve probably made these 10 times in the last 2 months. They are like crack on a bun. I could probably eat these almost every day. The flavors all just pop together and make a perfect combination. I can’t get enough of it into my mouth. Amazing! Only thing is that my house smells like onions a lot more often. 🤣🤷♂️
I love smashed burger and I've even made this one, but Chef Tom's version is outstanding again. I definitely have to do it again and I like you gave Credit to George Motz 👍👍👍
2:36 just sitting here thinking to myself how amazing this channel is, so good, so joyous, don't have to worry about the world [mustard splat] ...this is the life 😌
Maybe I’m new around here but it’s wild that nobody’s talking about how this man casually mentioned a deli slicer like every American has one😂 this video actually made me wish I had one lmao
Just tried to make smash burgers for and this technique for the first time. Holy hell. I thought I made a good burger before. Best I’ve ever made. Thank you!
Leave it to Chef Tom to provide someone from Oklahoma the key to a better onion burger! My friends and I have been making these for about a year now and haven’t made any that look like this. I will definitely be showing off my new knowledge at our next shindig!
Thank you so much for posting this! It’s an absolute mess to make, at least with my novice flat top skills. But definitely one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. My wife’s homemade buns and pickles didn’t hurt either!
love love love the colour rendition on your final edit, team! Skin tones on Chef Tom, and the brown crust on the patties. Absolute stunners, well done & keep it up. From the StoryBites team here in NZ.
I would honestly rather eat a cheeseburger like this, which costs about 4 dollars, than just about anything. And American cheese is definitely the way to go.
Love a good smash burger! My motto is any sandwich you can eat with sautéed onions is a delicacy. Just takes it to the next level of flavor. Haven't ever had a smashburger made like that although ive had slider burgers with thinly sliced onions on them and they were awesome. Definitely have to make em. I dont have a deli slicer but, i do have a mandilon at home to use. Thanks for the video and helpful tips
Spent many a summer in El Reno OK., eating onion burgers from the famous three(Johnnie's, Robert's, and Sid's, although Ross's was around when I was young). This a a very good take on them.
Used your technique for my 1st smash burgers and it was a great success thx. Don't know what Americans do to their onions though.🙄 The size of that thing makes sense after all the water that came out. Barely a drop of water out of my non-organic UK supermarket white onions.
Made this a few days ago. WOW this was one fantastic burger!!!! I’ve made plenty of smash burgers b4 but I believe what takes it to the top is grinding up a brisket. I don’t think I’ll ever b able to go back to regular 80/20 from the grocery store again!
I'd have set the onions on some butter and let it cermlized a bit before smashing the patty on top of the onions. Also tosting the buns side ways getting it more crisp. And finsh with some suace to flavor things up.
Most large (box) cheese graters have a thin slicer as well. A mandolin also. Thin onions is critical…paper thin. I’ve seen guys “pre smash” the burger separated by wax paper. Very thin patty with very thin, edges. It makes the edges lacy and crispy. Then easy peasy. A lot of guys “steam” the toasted bun under a metal bowl on the grill. With or without the cheese, but I like the cheese. Great with mustard.
love the outtake with the mustard. shows Chef Tom is still human lol
nobody is perfect, but those hamburgers sure come close.

Ive seen a lot of these onion burger videos lately, and this one by far looks the best!
My absolute favorite….. the color you got on the burgers after the first flip couldn’t have been better!
Love these. It’s pretty much the only way I do burgers now. The onion and beef combo is incredible.

Tried this last night - best burger I've ever made! Don't ever stop Tom :)
Love the drained onions trick! Can't wait to try it!
Those onions are so thin they only have one side! Local Engine and Ladder Company responding to filming site to eat (4:50)
I made this! The pickles in the middle are CRAZY!! Thanks Chef!!
That's great! Thanks for watching!

If this was the only thing my home state was ever known for I would be fine with it. Okie onion burgers are a gift from God. So good.
That has to be the best burger I’ve ever seen in my life
I'll trade you my first born for one of these.
Thank you so much for posting this! It’s an absolute mess to make, at least with my novice flat top skills. But definitely one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. My wife’s homemade buns and pickles didn’t hurt either!
Love the mustard opps!! Glad u didn't edit that out, we all need good humor, ty 4 sharing!!!!

the man puts 2 onions through a deli slicer and not one tear.

My eyes started watering just watching you slice those onions

Love that you're using Kozlik's. My personal favourite brand.
Dude, those look crazy CRAZE incredible.
I’m hungry just watching you make them.
I bet you could do these on a black stone.
I had one for breakfast yesterday while monitoring a 9 hour smoke on a pork butt. Can't beat an onion smash burger.
Can't go wrong with a burger for breakfast!
Nothing else to say. Outstanding. Great mustard choice too.
Love seeing the bloopers in the videos!
I'll bet that onion juice would be a great morning drink.
Yeah i was like "NOW DRINK IT"
I'm saving it to put in a homemade chicken broth 😋 it's salty too, so definitely deserves to be in there.
OMG, I COULD TASTE IT FROM HERE, U.S.ARMY VET IN THE PHILIPPINES!, YUP YOU DID IT, YOU FINALLY MADE ME CRY I WANT ONE SO BAD ! !
Ordered ground waygu from Crowd Cow over the weekend. Should be here Thursday. I know what I'm making for Friday night drinking munchies!🤤🤤
Enjoy!!
Having them tonight, went and got al the stuff this morning. Great version Chef Tom...
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
George Motz would be proud
Yeah!!!
I have a thin well marbled scotch fillet steak that I'm going to mince up and make into this burger tomorrow! Looks so legit. Cheers Tom and team.

Use a mandoline slicer works a treat for the onions
Looks outstanding! Going to definitely do some of these soon. Thanks!!!
Thanks for watching!
@@allthingsbbq Cooked full brisket today using your method, for the first time in several attempts it came out great. Thanks!!!
That mustard plop was hilarious, keep the little fails coming
A superb Presentation with Excellent Results!!! Laszlo Montreal. Would you mind naming your Spatula? Thanks.
This video is definitely one of the better ones I've seen. Though, I personally prefer the more authentic single-patty version.
The char on the outside of the burgers.. 🤤🤤🤤
1am, my mouth is watering and now I want to go fire up the grill. I need to grind up a brisket asap 👍
Yum! Thanks for watching!
Always enjoy notification Chef Tom is in the House. Beautiful looking...

grats on feathering the edges that crispy lace is a big part of a smash burger
Put brown sugar in the meat and hit it with a dab of maple syrup before you smash it down. Use velveta singles. It will blow your mind.
My goodness! Few ingredients can create such a luxurious burger!!!
That's the best way to do it! Thanks for watching!
I was supposed to work today...change of plans, I'm making these!
For the onions you can use the mandolin slicer it's magic
Oh my goodness! Those burgers really do look delicious. A few drops of Tabasco sauce would make them even better. Nahhh! forget the hot sauce.
The burger that could litteraly kill me !
Why does it have to looks so damn good and delicious !!!!!
I tried it one time and it was the best burger ever. Love your videos, love these burgers!
Thanks for watching!
Chef Tom uses a deli slicer instead of a mandolin. Epic!
@Nick Kakid No, I’m straight, but thank you. Hey, best of luck finding mister right.
Chef Tom is the best! I gotta try these onion smash burgers 🍔
Thanks for watching!
I love the bun idea! Great hack!
As an Oklahoman, that’s legit one of the best looking onion burgers I’ve seen. Bravo
Thanks for watching!!
I'd have set the onions on some butter and let it cermlized a bit before smashing the patty on top of the onions. Also tosting the buns side ways getting it more crisp. And finsh with some suace to flavor things up.
My FAVORITE burger ever!
We agree, lots of great burgers to choose from. This one is in the running. Thanks for watching!
You sir are a cook. Dang. I watch smash burger recipes a lot but this one…
This is the perfect burger. Humble, juicy, cheap, delicious...perfection.
Love the George Motz shoutout!
There is a local place the serves burgers like these. Stanley's in CF Rhode Island. It's been a while but this video makes them a must visit soon!
