This goes to show just how much the competence of professors really matter. Now I finally understand this concept fully, and all I had to give up was a little less than 30 minutes of my time. Thank you immensely!

The table, which includes the tasks, time, and predecessors is the key to an accurate, understandable network diagram, and you demonstrated that well. Thank you.

Float is the same as slack. The two terms are identical in the context of project network diagrams. Lag and lead are relevant but are easier to handle and see the effects of these items in a Gantt Chart. Example 1: Take two tasks A and B. B is dependent on A. A takes two days to complete. Usually B would start after day two once A is finished. In some situations however it may suit to delay the start of task B. This delay is lag. Lead is where there is no dependency. But A still starts ahead of B.

We're all on the same page here but might be looking at it from different perspectives. Let's take the example of tasks A (duration 4) and C (duration 5). C must wait for A to finish before it starts. So when the project starts we start at time 0. A takes 4 days to finish. Your lecture notes are correct...task C does start on EF or A + 1 which is day 5. C's duration is 5 so it is completed over days 5,6,7,8 and 9. The EF of task C is at the end of day 9. In my method when I write in the ES across all tasks I am saying that these tasks start at the end of this day (e.g. task C begins at the cross over from day 4 to 5). This makes the calculations quick. Your lecture notes are correct but look at it in a different way. You'll gain greater understanding of the whole Critical Path if you can understand both perspectives.

It's a network diagram rather than a gantt. just used google docs document editor. It looks quicker than it was because I edited out some bits when I was constructing the activities.

Brilliant! Very concise explanation which solved many unanswered questions! What I would like to know in addition is the Free Slack? For example what would the Free Slack of Task D be (having a total slack of 11) but the earliest start date for F is day 1.
