Sorry if I already posted on here, but THANK YOU for showing actual real decor ideas that are not like "Oh just go to the store and buy the whole aisle and go massively into debt and you're done!!" Also I love that you re-used stuff from last year, and have like.. real person tips from the before times when people did not just go buy the whole aisle at Home Goods and decorate their entire house and then video it. Also your editing is so good now, and I also really love that you and Becky keep your own personalities in your videos and everything is not all the same. You guys really do have a very individual point of view to each of your videos, but it all works cohesively together and it's just really nice to see.

I have found that the best way to get candle wax out of the bottom of the jar is to freeze it! The wax contracts, and you can just pop it out with a butter knife!

On taking the painting down: every Christmas I pack up most of my decor and replace it with all my (mostly secondhand) Christmas decor. Then after Christmas I put it all back out, and it gives me an opportunity to re-assess the stuff that I have and decide whether I want to keep it or give it away.

My step-mom always wrapped her pictures in the living room and put them right back where they belonged. No having to find homes for paintings & all it took was wrapping paper & ribbon.

What on earth are these comments asking for videos more regularly? They post at least 2 videos a week plus shorts and that takes an entire team of people to produce content at this rate, not to mention the vlog channel and their blog and other socials. Calm down.

Yes, it is a hustle, but at the same time maybe people aren’t always doing it for hate, I want to believe that there’s a lot of love for the content behind that, snd maybe they aren’t really aware of the workload. But yes, the content is high quality and consistent, they’re working hard, so I don’t see the point nor the necessity of putting pressure on them.

The mountain hemlock isn’t poisonous. Hemlock tree species are called hemlock because they have a similar smell to the poisonous plant (which is a small plant with white flowers) but they aren’t related and are not poisonous

Magnolia leaves are in holiday decor because in the part of the US where I live they’re one of the few evergreen plants we have. It’s basically pine (white, yellow, or loblolly), Eastern red cedar, or magnolia. Those are your choices. As a kid we bought our Christmas tree from a local farm and since you can’t grow firs or spruces here, it was a white pine.

In regards to the leftover candle wax, my favorite method is putting them in the freezer for a few hours. Then I take a butter knife and just spilt the wax into chunks. It is so easy! I reuse or recycle the container and can melt the wax down again.

Some (not all) varieties of Magnolias are evergreen, so they stay vibrantly green all winter long. The tradition of bringing in evergreen branches (and trees) in to the home to invite life and vibrancy into your home, especially in the chill midwinter when so much life is unseen or "gone", is a very old Christmas tradition, borrowed from Pagan and other pre-Christian midwinter traditions.

Kelsey, we have seven different sleds from those typical wooden baby sleds to toboggans out front as decoration which we have secured in place with wires or chains and then embellished with big red bows and greenery. And because our evergreen tree has become too tall to string with lights we shine spotlights on the sleds. We've rarely had to buy them as we already owned them or they were found. Our decorations are unique in our neighbourhood. I really like your table centerpiece!

Our towns brush site has free greens and sometimes red berries, etc. Check out your local one, hours and days they are open maybe limited. Where residents dump their bush trimmings. Got a nice variety last few years. Also may find some branches or logs for craft supplies or fire pit. Last year I melted some crayons with old wax to dip pinecones in for fire-starters to give as gifts. I thrifted some cookie tims and repainted them and added some long matches. TFS

I tend to not have a tree - I normally have a cat or two to destroy one ! Sadly, I am cat-free at the momemt. I DO tend to splurge on a nice real wreath - local church sells nice healthy ones cheaper & I add a few things. Adds a lovely scent without too much clean up from dried needles !

Cookie tins. You store ornaments all year and fill the tin with actual cookies over the holidays when the ornaments are on the trees!
And you can wrap them in holiday pillow cases, fabric napkins etc. Great for fragile things, plus you have the napkins etc on hand for festive season!

That’s the kind of Holiday decor I really like- making everything cozy & using the natural world to put festive touches around the house. I mostly don’t care for everything being all good & glittery. Although I do like a tree decorated with whimsical ornaments. But I don’t want to invest in that. I just visit my sister’s house to see that.

I think you're thinking of Poison Hemlock or conium maculatum. It looks completely different and sort of looks like what is sometimes called Queen Anne's Lace. The one that's a tree, called Eastern Hemlock which you have there, was actually used to make tea from its needles so it's likely fine to put near food 🙂

My favorite holiday decoration (and a super traditional one) is a single candle in each window (I timed led ones)

Magnolias are included with Pines & Firs at Xmas because they can/are Evergreen trees.😊
Tsuga is a genus of conifers in the pine family Pinaceae. The common name " hemlock" is derived from a perceived similarity in the smell of its crushed foliage to that of the unrelated plant poison hemlock. Unlike the latter, Tsuga species are not poisonous. This is a completely different species of plant to poisonous hemlock which is Poison hemlock (Conium maculatum). Not a pine or fir.

I also took down my living room art during the holidays last year because it was too summery 😆 and it’s true, I appreciated it so much more after bringing it back out later on

Not sure is someone already answered, but most Magnolia trees are deciduous (aka evergreen). Not sure how prevalent Magnolias are in Canada, but in the Southern US, this makes their leaves a great, and if you have a tree, cheap greenery to use for the holidays.
I am also so glad to hear someone else who tends to not want to put up a tree. ❤

For melting the last little bit out of my “end of life” candles, I put a little water on the stove to boil and then place the candle jar in the water. It works super well!

Magnolias and hollies (another holiday perennial) are both broadleaf evergreens. A nice textural change from needled evergreens, and not as heavily scented. I remember seeing articles in popular women's magazines advising avoiding traditional evergreens on the table, so as not to interfere with the scent of the food. A fresh cedar wreath being warmed by candles would definitely interfere with the smell of buttery rolls.

Don't see why. We can often smell Christmas tree in small spaces from the dining table. Adds to the festive atmosphere. Gin is made from juniper berries.

@@serenakoleno9338 I agree. I ignored that bit of advice - but thought it was interesting that some people feel that way.
