TH-cam really kicked off my shopping when I first started watching it. Now I am more selective especially after my husband passed and my available income shrunk. Skincare and makeup was a big thing for me. Now 6-7 years later I look at some of the makeup I bought and wish I hadn't. When the new Tirtir cushion makeup came out I felt I just has to have it however I didn't want to spend $25 for it. Today the Black Friday price is $15. I looked at it this morning and almost bought it, then I said to myself I didn't really need it I just "wanted" it. I happy to say I am not ordering it. With all the wonderful ways of ordering things online, it is easy to just click away. I am at a time in my life where I want to own less and am slowly resisting the urge to "click and buy". Blessings to you from Texas.
Good Saturday 🌅☕🎉morning. I do not like 💰 spending my money , only shop for what I need. I like window 🛍️🛒 shopping, just looking and going too a cafe and get a nice cup of ☕ coffee or 🍵 tea 😊
Margaret, this has been extremely helpful! I never thought I would become addicted to shopping. Never in my life have I bought more than I needed. When I hit my late 50s it started. Online shopping consumed me. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I had my heart attack this year at 63. I’ve accumulated a ridiculous amount of credit card debt and found I was shopping out of sheer boredom. I’m an Ultrasound Technologist and make good money but when I couldn’t work for 6 months I realized only then how buried I was. It’s a slippery slope. Now the earnings that were going into retirement are going to credit card companies.
Good question Margaret! The answer is both! I can likely count on one hand the number of times I have gone to a Thrift Store and walked out empty handed lol! Albeit, I do make an effort just to buy what I went in there for. Apparently, resisting a good buy is not one of my strong points. Over the years, I have saved a fortune, buying high quality used items in excellent condition. But, now that I have to sort my belongings. I know she'll donate everything, even family heirlooms I have treasured over the years. I am not feeling very motivated, even though I don't want to leave a pile for my daughter to take care of after my departure. I watched the video about your lovely home Margaret, I've a long way to go to catch up with you... there again, being a mindful and frugal Prepper, is really the only way I have been able to survive on a very small Fixed Low Income. Frugality used to be a game, and means that shopping is now optional, even for food. It has become a rather tedious necessity at this point. Once in a while, I think of how much fun it would be to throw caution to the wind, and be able to go out for a coffee, or a meal more than once every few months without wrecking my budget. I am thankful for what I have, but even though I make use of local festivals, concerts and the like, I find myself staying home more to avoid spending. Even using a small amount of petrol eats into what I have allowed to go to the School of Dentistry instead of paying a lot more to go to a private dentist.
My oldest sister taught me when we were young, working adults to tweat myself to something special each pay period. Bills come first, but reward yourself for working even if only a piece of candy. We used to walk to Sees Candy and treated ourselves to a 25 cent Walnut chocolate candy after house chores twice a month. I like thift store shopping . ❤
No I don't have any of those issues. I follow Allysa Beltamo she has creative ideas on not over spending but also repurposing my older clothing items in my closet. Trying new styling ideas with what I already have. It can be fun and rewarding.
I love browsing and do not necessarily need to buy anything, but my one weakness is jewelry. If I want something I buy it, the only requirement for me is I must be able to pay the credit card in full when it comes in. At 80, what am I saving my money for, as the old saying goes you can’t take it with you!
Yes😉Very difficult to leave beautiful vintage jewelry behind when out antiquing or thrifting; however I must have the finances to pay the credit card in full! Considering reselling some of my vintage treasures for a profit as I become more knowledgeable about identifying fine jewelry and high quality costume pieces. Enjoy taking my loupe (magnifying glass) and embarking on a treasure hunt.
Like you Margaret I have far too much makeup! I recently came out in a facial rash and wondered could it be some of my older makeup? Anyway I decided to have a clear out & have thrown older stuff out. I'm now only going to buy what I need. Also I had another clear out of clothes that I didn't need. This was to create more room in my wardrobe & drawers which were bulging. I tend to purchase on line which is convenient but also too easy to do! I think we do it as when younger & raising a family there wasn't spare cash for ourselves. I realise that I'm fortunate to have spare money but I don't want to waste it either.
Not addicted to shopping. Enjoy it when I actually need something. I like looking at stores when I am traveling but rarely buy much. I'm trying to live a minimalist lifestyle.
Excellent question we all need to seriously consider. I do shop impulsively, have hidden clothes (years ago), made reasonable excuses for making clothing purchases. Now, I am on a limited income and really need to watch these addictions (clothes, makeup, plants).
Good morning from Australia. I am addicted to op shopping. (Thrifting, I think you call it over there). I live and travel in my van so am restrained on what I can buy but I just love the hunt for that something special. I have found such great items. I once bought a string of real pearls. I think I paid about $8. I was so excited. I might go shopping today😁
I used to love shopping. But now I can’t get around as good so I don’t go that much. I will order on line. It never seem to be as good as advertised a lot of the times. I think I’ve felt all of these emotions you mentioned about shopping at one time or another.❤Thank you for a great video ❤
Hi everyone, I did not have any spending money at all, when my children were small. I used to shop with catalogues for their little clothes, making some and altering as they became older. Later in life, with more income I became besotted with the changing fashions on the High Street and could hardly resist buying something. So I had some nice pieces but a bit of a mish-mash. I had a moment that changed my idea, when seeing my wardrobe and still having nothing to wear. It had to stop. It has! Now it is much more selective where everything is coordination with everything else. Plus a more disciplined approach to amount of items I have in my wardrobe. Luckily, I feel more content.
I have too many clothes around here I rarely or never wear so no longer buy anything unless really need it. Am 71 and mostly home anyway. One of my previous problems was that my weight has always fluctuated and I’ll buy something thinking I’ll lose weight. There’s the cutest little denim Disney jumper I found at goodwill a few years ago hanging in my closet just waiting for me to lose 15 pds. :-)
I do not like shopping in person at all, but these days everything is just a click away and returns are easy. I’ve pared down my wardrobe to neutrals with a pop of color here and there. I don’t own a dress or a skirt. I used to sell Mary Kay cosmetics about 20 years ago but only wear very little makeup now. I did go on a bit of a shopping spree after my husband died last year, but I know what that was about and it has now stopped.
I like to shop and I would like to be able to purchase something that I like . Being retired I stick to a budget and how much can I possibly use before to becomes clutter . Seems like the more you buy the more you want and it can be never ending . I am single and don’t need anyone’s permission. I truly enjoy what I have I don’t have things I don’t use ❤️
No, I don't have a shopping addiction. Though I do love good quality scented candles. I have one burning every day, and the ones I love are quiet expensive. I was only asking myself the other day, how I would feel if I couldn't buy them anymore. I think I would feel sad, but then like everything in life, I would just get used to it. I try to keep everything in my life intentional not random.
I have to disagree. An addiction is a pathology. And the words retail and therapy cannot exist in the same sentence. Nothing wrong in treating one self to something once in a while. I have never liked shopping, even grocery shopping. There are more interesting pursuits in life! I own some good clothes, most I have had for years. Never go into charity shops. And bright colours do not suit me. Three handbags, one belonged to my late mother. Our feet are our only carriage so I insist on good footwear, leather only. Black suede, and maybe a pale shade for Summer. My only jewellery is some pearls my husband have me on our first anniversary. And a thin gold chain with a tiny Diamond pendant that belonged to my mother. Decent underwear a must, and no not the three-pack.L. That's it.

Great question - thrifting is my weakness. However I am going on a no buy 2025 . ❤❤
I adore browsing and trying on but dont buy so much now. It gives me a boost when feeling down and the exercise does me good😊😊😊
Good Saturday 🌅☕🎉morning. I do not like 💰 spending my money , only shop for what I need. I like window 🛍️🛒 shopping, just looking and going too a cafe and get a nice cup of ☕ coffee or 🍵 tea 😊
Getting out and browsing is fun and when you find something really useful, it's great, but I can see how it can become somewhat addictive.☺️

I definitely have FOMO during a sale. I do buy impulsively because I think it is okay during a sale. 😕

Well said Linda. I too love good candles. That is not an addiction like constantly buying tat.
Shopping for women in any age is really enjoyable activity I believe.
Fari. No It is not! I dislike shopping, and know other Women Who also dislike that pursuit!!
