- Greenhouse in Jamaica is basically in the developmental stage as we continue to seek knowledge to improve on implementing higher technologies in the greenhouse. Let us go on a quick tour of Tobolski greenhouse cluster in St. Ann, Jamaica. As I mentioned before, some greenhouse in Jamaica are considered low cost due to the lack of higher technologies used to grow crops. However, there are some greenhouse in Jamaica that have implemented higher technologies and seeing great rewards. Therefore, our situation in Jamaica as it relates to the use of more technology in the greenhouse is not because there is a lack of "know how," per say but partially due to lack of funding amongst other variables.

Could you find out and say what was the cost to build one of these green house
Hello MC-AgriTech, could you identify the shrubs with white/blue flowers at 8:21? Happy to see that you brought along your beautiful wife; it speaks a lot to teamwork. Blessings!
Thank you for the compliment, I don't know if it is for me or my wife or both of us 😄but thank you. As it relates to the shrub, I really do not know what the name is but I will certainly find out in the coming week and get back to you. But what I do know is that the farmers normally plant herbs and other plants that will help to keep away insects from the greenhouses, so maybe that's there purpose there but as I said I'll find out and let you know. Thank you for the feed back.
Hello again Rose Henry; as promised, the name of the blue flowers is Plumbago and the white one is Hydrangea.
@@MCAgriTech God bless you for this! You know, these are two of the flowers I have been reading upon/ viewing planting instructions for my gardening plans. Thank you so much, this is really confirmation for me, and I truly appreciate your time and effort.
@@rosehenry9296 Hello, I am happy I was able to help and I wish you the very best on your gardening journey. With that being said; would you like to share some information about your garden? Like what you plan on growing or what you are growing and how you sustain your garden.
@@MCAgriTech I plan to grow as many veggies, fruits, and flowers as I'm able to- the whole nine yards! Lol. I had actually made an attempt with tomatoes, kale and sweet peppers, but they were all demolished by white flies, slugs, and every imaginable bug, some of which I had never seen in my life. But, never say die person that I am, I'll keep going, just much better prepared this time; and with your very useful videos I see great success ahead.
1) would like to know how many sweetpepper plants are planted in a 100 feet run of a greenhouse drip system,
2) if you are doing hydrophonic farming, how far apart should you plant strawberries in the 4" PVC
Pipe?
3) Is it safe to have a 140 or 150 feet run planting sweetpepper or other plants?
Answer to question 1
A 100 feet length greenhouse drip system can hold 125 sweet pepper plants using a planting distance of 18 inches apart. The width of your greenhouse will determine how many rows of beds the greenhouse can hold. Therefore, whatever amounts of rows of beds you plant to have, just multiply it by 125. Please note that one bed will have two rows of plant which comes up to the total of 125 using a 100ft long greenhouse. The greenhouse in this video are between 130-150ft long by 20ft in width and the only hold 3 rows of beds with two rows on each bed. Therefore, the greenhouse seen in the video ranges from 496 - 576 sweet pepper plants.
Answer to question 2
You can plant the strawberry plants 12 inches apart. This distance will give them enough room to grow and to accommodate proper airflow and reduced relative humidity.
Answer to question 3
Yes it is safe. The greenhouse being featured in this video ranges in that length and they are working great for sweet peppers. Watch this video: th-cam.com/video/EY3wvIZmgYk/w-d-xo.html
I hope I have answered your questions. Please reach out with any more questions that might arise, thank you and have a great week.
Can I use more plastic on the green house and an then use a small quantity of mesh hush for ventilation
It depends on the climatic environment you are in. If you use more plastic, you will be trapping more heat inside the greenhouse. If you use a balance of plastic on the roof and mesh on the sides and vent, you will have better passive airflow. However, if your plan is to use some amount of active active cooling such as air-conditioning or evaporative cooling, then you can cover the entire greenhouse with plastic.
Which is more expensive the mesh or the plastic
Thanks for this question. The mesh is more expensive.
The plastic at the top and mesh at the side seems like a good idea
Thank you for the comment and yes it is, cheers.
Can anyone tell that this is black shednet only?
It is black shade cloth on the sides which is 48%
Just
Thanks
