ABOUT MAKING IT
In this six-episode competition, eight of the most talented makers from across the country will take on a variety of handmade projects with the hopes of impressing Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman and our expert judges. Each episode of the competition will consist of two projects that allow the makers to demonstrate their specialized talent, while sharing skilled insights and touching personal stories. First, the "faster-craft" round will be a timed challenge that will test their ability to not only work quickly but imaginatively as well. Next, the makers will move to the "master craft collection," a one-of-a-kind themed challenge in which the competitors will need to use their expertise and get inventive in order to assemble a winning craft that fits the theme of that week.

To be fair.
The three woods he guessed have very unique distinguishable smells, mahogany and teak don't have much of an odor, so it would be hard for anyone to guess them.
Mahogany definitely has its own smell, you're right, it's not that 'in your face'. I think if Nick started with freshly sanded mahogany he would have got it, but after blowing out his sense of smell with pine, anything that subtle is going to be lost.
@@TempleGuitars since I made this comment I’ve encountered a few species of mahogany that smell unmistakably like cinnamon, especially sapele.
Yep, anyone who’s spent some time outdoors around the US is gonna nail pine and cedar. I *love* the smell of pines, brings me back to summer camp.

Pine and cedar are fairly easy if you've worked with them, but don't think I would have gotten any of the others.
Listening to Nick talking about wood makes me want to quit my job as warehouser and start as wood worker or at least as carpenter. He could teach woodworking even to a donkey.

Pine and cedar, I could get no problem. Walnut, I think he guessed more by feel than by scent, although admittedly, I haven't cut all that much walnut. But it's lighter than the teak or mahogany by comparison. Teak and mahogany both feel very dense and smooth.

I thought this show might be about things people make. A showcase of things like fine furniture, boats, guitars, clocks, mechanical do dads. The first major disappointment is it's a competition. Then ,,,"using the material on your bench make an animal that best describes your personality" Are you shitting me? I guess I was misinformed. When one of the guest makes a brass skeleton clock call me.
