"Oops, that's not right" Finger comes off the trigger, muzzle stays pointed downrange, safety goes on, she looks for instructions, she follows instructions. Looks well trained to me.
At no point was there any instruction for her to manipulate the safety on the weapon and she did anyway… also she was not supposed to fire the weapon first. Further review… this is a drill where the assistant takes the safety off while she is pulling the trigger to get familiar with recoil. It’s a dumb drill… but she did what she was supposed to do until she put the safety on and failed to put the gun down and step away. Someone screwed up and didn’t have the safety on to start with and when she pulled the trigger there was a negligent discharge of the firearm. In which case you are ordered to put the weapon on the deck and step away… aka put the gun down. Then the range master does an inspection. So no…. She shouldn’t put the safety on here. You do what you are told exactly. You are in student mode here. Half the job of the military is getting people to forget what they think they know.
@@TheBeefSlayer Yeah she shouldn't put on the safety when putting away the weapon. It's important to have grenade launchers and other weapons laying around that can be fired by accident! Bad practice to always put safety on before putting away the weapon!

@0Logan05 She's in training. There was a round malfunction and she looked to her superior for orders on top of putting the gun on safety before moving back. I'd say that's pretty damn good. Strong men don't shit on women.
For those who don’t understand the training grenade or the launcher itself malfunctioned. Do you see the smoke? the training grenade blew up like 5 feet in front of her the shrapnel from a real Grenade can kill you at that distance. That was the malfunction at that angle it should’ve went atleast 40 feet in front of her if not more.

It’s a chalk round, they don’t explode. The casing probably had a crack in it that’s why it it did that. Carry some for long enough and you will have that chalk everywhere. Also 40mm have to rotate a certain number of times before it arms. Near impossible to detonate in the air that close. No one here was in any danger.

Had this been a live grenade, the shrapnel would have hit her, that's why he's saying "that's not good, backup backup backup". She didn't do a single thing wrong, she followed instructions to the letter. Are we forgetting that she's probably only 18 or 19? The Chalk round just broke down, it happens in training. They aren't saying that we shouldn't go to war because of her, they're saying that we shouldn't go to war because of the malfunctioning grenade launcher...
That would not have happened with a live round. Chalk rounds occasionally come out of the plastic right out of the barrel. I have never seen an actual grenade do that. I suppose if you pointed it at your feet or something.....
Ok, but thats just simulation then. There was no danger and backing up after it exploded doesn't seem to do anything at all. And backing up from shrapnel after 1sec from it exploding doesn't actually do anything what so ever. What am I missing? If it was real, what would it change? Also it isn't real....
@@who-nobody-neverwell before the military went soft that instructors would have been way more intense. Which would have added alot more stress and she would have backed up alot faster. If that weapon dropped on the ground and pointed in an unsafe direction because she freaked out she would have bigger issues with the range instructor
If it was a real life scenario he wants them to think clearly instead of thinking about just another drill Sargent yelling. I'm not sure if there would be any safe way to prevent or stop this from happening. It would probably be best to yell something while immediately taking cover. I've never had any service training so I'm not sure.
@@anastasiabryant2571 Well, not all NCOs are the same. Some are kinder some are meaner. The thing is, soldiers need to recognize all sorts of threats when it happens on the field. Regardless if it's training or not, the soldier's gonna get yelled at. For this instance, let's say a threat comes along for the training exercise. Failure to resolve this threat is an obvious no-no. Yelling at the soldier can give them a sense of danger and recognizes the threat more clearly. Being all soft around them will give off the implication that the threat can be seen as minor. For example, the firearm malfunctioned and as it is an M320 grenade launcher, could explode in your face. If you don't yell at the soldier, which the drill sergeant didn't the soldier might think that this is something that you don't really take seriously. However, the mindset changes if you yell at them. The pressure from the drill sergeant can help make the soldier recognize what the problem is. They don't have to be logical about the situation, they just need to know what to properly without slacking off and brushing away the problem.
A sergeant’s ability to give clear& calm direction is such a flex. I went to a marine “pre” boot camp & was at the height of a rope climb when my arms gave out and I slipped down several feet. The sergeant calmly yelled “hand under hand” repeatedly until my body just followed his direction. He saved my hands that day.
The training round malfunctioned, he's telling her to back up so that they don't breath in the orange dust, the projectile usually bursts on impact showing the orange "smoke" (to show where the training projectile landed) however some are defective and crack due to poor storage condition or even poor handling. when the recruit shot there was a malfunction in the round causing it burst instantly and the orange smoke appears infront of them. They did nothing wrong, instructor is just telling them to back up from the orange smoke so that they don't inhale it, it was just a malfunction it can happen to anyone (not the shooters fault) *Little 😅 edit* for those keyboard warriors that haven't been through any military training but still have the need to negatively comment about this recruit without having a clue of what's going on. let's take it from the top.... (1) The video starts off with 40mm training round already loaded it's a M781 practice round, i know because it's the ONLY practice round authorized to be shot out of the M320 (2) the safety has been disengaged already prior to the start of the video (the weapon is live) (3) the recruit says "ready" giving notice of her intent to fire (4) if you look closely at the video, you can see the instructor is well out of camera away from the firing line... In my experience this is because he has already given the "fire when ready" authorization. If the instructor is that far away from his recruits when they have a live weapon, and he hasn't given the authorization command, then that instructor deserves to get canned. A instructor would NEVER and i mean NEVER let the recruits pop the safety on a loaded weapon, or even aim it down range, much less fire it if the range isn't clear, or all the safety protocols haven't been met. If this had been a safety issue where the recruit is at fault (which it wasn't) the instructor would be screaming at the top of his/her lungs and torn that recruit to bits. (5) You can clearly see the malfunction in the video, she was holding that launcher at the correct angle for fire, there's no obstruction in front of them that would cause the orange "smoke" or dye w/e you wanna call it to pop right in front of them it was a round malfunction that caused it to burst instantly when shot, true she jiggles the trigger but that's just because those launchers are a little more stiff than your average trigger, trigger pull on this launcher is 11-15 pounds. (6) Please keep in mind most recruits in basic training don't have confidence handling firearms, that develops over time (with extensive training) (7) Also he's telling them BOTH to back up because the danger radius on the M781 Practice Round is 20m/66ft that orange smoke you see in the video, is actually a non-lethal chalk powder it shouldn't be inhaled, it may cause respiratory discomfort, coughing, irritation to the eyes and mouth if aspirated orally. That orange puff is meant to work as a signal of where the projectile landed (it's easily visible up to 400m) However instructors do know that the SOP (standard operating procedure) for these specific situations during training is to back everyone away from the powder, until they are at a safe distance. (8) Recruits are trained on the "basics" these rounds VERY RARELY malfunction like this they usually just miss fire. Recruits are NOT trained on this exact malfunction, because this ONLY happens in training, this does NOT happen with live rounds. If this exact malfunction was to happen in a real combat scenario with an explosive round, they would all be dead and there's nothing you can teach them that would change that outcome. (9) So you can't expect them to act accordingly when they didn't have prior knowledge that this training malfunction was a possibility, she was perplexed at the situation like all the recruits in the video, none of them knew what had happened. This recruit did everything correctly, as soon as the instructor gave the command to "back up" she followed protocol to the letter, she reapplied the safety, she put the weapon down in a safe manor, with the muzzle towards the range, and she began to back up. (10) It doesn't matter how many times the instructor says "back up", you ALWAYS have to follow protocol when stepping away from a weapon doesn't matter if your a recruit, or an operator. Sorry for the essay, hope the information helps... 🦭
Lots of info, but it's a ND all day.. it was obviously a range and you don't just sway and shoot. I will agree that, the round might of been damaged do to how close it was. But it does still take a primer.. which is pretty safe. Unless the gun had a malfunction.
1. Weapon malfunctions in training 2. Trainee, having never seen #1, looks puzzled, then to Sgt. 3. Sgt starts patter without waiting for response. Starts with "back up". Then rapid fire "put the gun down and back up, 4. Trainee hears command, follows safety protocol, locks weapon and makes sure it is stable. 5. Trainee walks away less than 2 seconds after the Sgt started speaking. -The weapon needed to be stabilized. You don't want to have a weapon tumble and possibly discharge toward trainees or Sgt. - commands are often repeated by those in charge. - I would bet that she and others watching will respond quickly if that happens again.

Apparently practice rounds have a flaw. If not stored right they can be borderline pre-detonation. -Lady was just getting a grip on the grenade launcher. Getting into position ready to aim. Barely touched the trigger and it went off.- edit. Round prematurely detonated not from trigger. But following launch. Supposed to land on the ground and blow up. Not detonate as it leaves the barrel. That's the design flaw of practice rounds. Misunderstood the issue. Apparently thats a flaw of the practice rounds. The rounds dump fine chalk in the air to help with training with accuracy and distance. But inhaling fine dust isn't all that healthy. So the man in charge of training immediately gave the instructions to move away from the dust till it settles. Trainee is confused but took the time to safe their firearm and ensure it was steady before moving away while following instructions. Next they will explain what exactly just happened, and take 5 before trying again. Sorry. I blamed the round for pre-detonation when actually it failed to travel from the barrel before triggering. Thus it blew up into a cloud of chalk dust right in front of the bunker. Thankfully it didn't detonate in the barrel I suppose. Chalk dust is still the reason for withdrawing.

for those who wondering or speaking too how calm the instructor is being, its for two reasons. one the round used is a chalk round, not a grenadine round. so its not dangerous that its jammed or malfunctioning, however as its a training tool meant to simulate a grenade round he still has her treat it as such. the other reason hes calm is the same reason we are used to instructors being the opposite. he needs her to make a calm rational decision its really him doing so for her where she doesn't know what to do. so he's calm as where yelling is to acclimate soldiers to performing under stress. its pretty common for instructors to take a calmer and more forgiving demeanor when recruits are handling live firearms.... not that they wont lose their shit if you fuck up bad enough.
I usually will be calm and tell them what to put down their weapon and the moment they put down their weapon safely, I'll just scream and fuck them us like the usual.
Psh, the day we practiced throwing dummy grenades we were to treat them as if they were real and some dumbass literally threw it straight to the ground next to about 20 people and I immediately picked it up and threw it away from them as they all stared at it like idiots. That bitch was hot when I grabbed it but I was a very happy camper watching everyone get screamed at by the DS saying all of them would've died if it was real because they stood around like idiots staring at it. It popped not even 2 seconds after I threw it and DS told them there would've been only 1 casualty vs 20 if it was real. 1 vs 20 would be a big number to lose anywhere. It looked like it was something straight out of a movie.
I wud loke to know rmthe instructor said to her? She did it right, not her fault the training grenade failed. Thsnk you for your service! Damn cute too!
The reason she isn’t panicking is that she isn’t firing live HE grenades, she’s firing chalk rounds that are used for training. He’s telling her to frantically back up to instill a sense of urgency in her, so that she doesn’t freeze up and just stand there when it happens for real.
We’ll she utterly failed and would have hundreds of pieces metal shrapnel all her eyes face and body , I know it was a training dud but still it’s a training exorcise I’d that was real she’d be dead and no chance of being alive she’d definitely be blind and probably death even if she did partly survive
In My Brother's Basic training at Fort Ord,California, a recruit dropped a live grenade just a few feet in front of the trench he had to shelter in. He said that he still had dreams, seeing that damn grenade's spoon flying in the air before it exploded, throwing sand into his trench. That was still during the Vietnam War, he had #35 on the last draft, and enlisted rather than waiting to see where the Army was going to place Him. He ended up being a Combat Medic. And was assigned to a group of Rangers flying down to Panama for Jungle Operations training, while His class were sent over to Vietnam. He said that he was never treated so well, by any group of Soldiers in his life... Those Ranger's had to of been thinking that they were going to make damn sure, He was going to stay healthy... As their own vulnerabilities, were in His hand's. He did get infected by some weird worm type insect, likely from sleeping on a bed of leaf clutter on the jungle floor, that had bored it's way under His skin near his shoulder blade. It wasn't until he was reassigned to Fort Lewis, that it was treated with some drug's which killed the insect, and it was absorbed by His body, after several months. Kinda freaky... He's gone, now, and is at rest, at a Veteran's Cemetery. I try to think about Him, telling that Worm, story to those entombed next to Him. Love You, Brother... Miss You like crazy. My father served in Iraq. My husband joined the Army last year and just got his notice for deployment for next year. I cannot forget stories like this because many of them come from my own family. More will come from my husband, and perhaps my own children sometime down the line. Things like this need to be shared with the people from my generation and younger who did not know service members and veterans growing up. War and the men brave enough to go through it is something we can't afford to ever forget.

The chalk dummy round shattered in the barrel, this is a very common occurrence for 40mm training ordinance. Perfect. Absolutely perfect.
The video is labeled: "Reasons why we shouldn't go to war". Is it because mishaps occasionally happen during training which was caught and handled by a professional weapons instructor, or is it because she wasn't fully trained on something she probably has never, ever done before which is the exact reason why she was in training??? I'm still wondering exactly what these mysterious "reasons" actually are...

One of the worst case scenarios happened with a launcher and the NCO was calm as hell
Probably cause yelling could cause them to hesitate more
If it was a real life scenario he wants them to think clearly instead of thinking about just another drill Sargent yelling. I'm not sure if there would be any safe way to prevent or stop this from happening. It would probably be best to yell something while immediately taking cover. I've never had any service training so I'm not sure.
@@JimothyPicking true, people loves to panic more than be cool in rough situations
With all the soy people in the army now im sure they have to change the way they talk

They did nothing wrong, instructor is just telling them to back up from the orange smoke so that they don't inhale it, it was just a malfunction it can happen to anyone (not the shooters fault)
*Little 😅 edit* for those keyboard warriors that haven't been through any military training but still have the need to negatively comment about this recruit without having a clue of what's going on.
let's take it from the top....
thanka
Lots of info, but it's a ND all day.. it was obviously a range and you don't just sway and shoot. I will agree that, the round might of been damaged do to how close it was. But it does still take a primer.. which is pretty safe. Unless the gun had a malfunction.
Even Gun Jesus himself proclaimed that 40mm chalk rounds are very unreliable.

@@Makeloafnotwar she instantly started putting the gun down as soon as she was told to back up. Did you even watch the video?
1. Weapon malfunctions in training
2. Trainee, having never seen #1, looks puzzled, then to Sgt.
3. Sgt starts patter without waiting for response. Starts with "back up". Then rapid fire "put the gun down and back up,

Weapons don’t discharge from “tumbling”. That’s why there’s a trigger

Yup. Here’s what happened: The practice round broke apart inside of the grenade launcher. This is not her fault. The practice rounds are quite weak and this is a common issue. She’s being told to back up so she doesn’t inhale the smoke. She likely was not informed that this malfunction was a possibility which is why she’s surprised.

for those who wondering or speaking too how calm the instructor is being, its for two reasons. one the round used is a chalk round, not a grenadine round. so its not dangerous that its jammed or malfunctioning, however as its a training tool meant to simulate a grenade round he still has her treat it as such. the other reason hes calm is the same reason we are used to instructors being the opposite. he needs her to make a calm rational decision its really him doing so for her where she doesn't know what to do. so he's calm as where yelling is to acclimate soldiers to performing under stress. its pretty common for instructors to take a calmer and more forgiving demeanor when recruits are handling live firearms.... not that they wont lose their shit if you fuck up bad enough.

I get that from the start of that was live in a battle field you best believe that’s a quick way to see god

@@Destiny_Fox Good job. Quick thinking!
Thanks. I needed that 😁
We’ll she utterly failed and would have hundreds of pieces metal shrapnel all her eyes face and body , I know it was a training dud but still it’s a training exorcise I’d that was real she’d be dead and no chance of being alive she’d definitely be blind and probably death even if she did partly survive
Doesn't matter. She needs to go back to the fuckin basics of trigger discipline. And needs her boots smoked for that negligent discharge of a weapon.
No. The reason she isn't panicking is because she is incompetent

Were not talking about ur mom...

Thank you for sharing his story. ❤
Thank you for sharing his story. I'm 21. My family has always been a military family, and in that respect, I am lucky. I've had family in almost every American war since at least WW1.

This happened at Parris Island too. It was like it happened in slow motion.

@@rohangondor I think you missed the point!🤣 It doesn't matter if it's a practice round. You still do what you would do if it was real, hints the "practice" part🤣

@@Glosy369 So what would YOU have done bro? Duck and cover? Wrong. When your grenade launcher misfires for real in a range training environment, you keep it aimed downrange for a prolonged period of time, to ensure you don't have a hangfire, and then unload. You DON'T put it down and back away. But this was a chalk round that broke up in the barrel, which the instructors probably didn't explain to the trainees beforehand, so they had to do it on the spot. There's not a drill for that dude. The only problem here is she put the launcher wrong way. Putting the weapon while your palm is facing downwards gives you more controll of the thing you are holding so you don't bump it somewhere like she did.

The chalk dummy round shattered in the barrel, this is a very common occurrence for 40mm training ordinance. Not to mention even if it was a live round it wouldnt kill anyone, the explosive has a MINIMUM arming distance it needs to achieve to be armed, in this case it must rotate 40 times to arm itself....or travel roughly 50 feet, otherwise its a dead round but would still need to clear the range and notify EOD.
That's what I'm saying, I see no danger here 🤣
Idk if it was taught everywhere but when you have a hang fire or failure to fire your suppose to hold the weapon down range for a certain time then when it's deemed safe open the breach rotate the round and attempt to fire again
Thank you for explaining finally someone here has common sense
You missed the point. You perform as you train. Whether it's chalk or not...you back up when you see gas.
@@starter47990 I've always been trained keep the weapon down range hold it incase of a hang fire or delay. After it deemed safe open the breach rotate the round 180 close the breach and attempt to fire again.
