      Hi! Matt works at an auto shop and has access to the service manuals. They're different and cover things the owner's manual doesn't. Matt was taught that generally flushing fluids with a flush machine isn't good to do and can cause issues, but I would definitely suggest doing research and seeing what is best for you. Thank you for watching!

      Not much info seems to be available.
      Will have to consider yours, given the reading material you guys were able to access.
      I once flushed a Toyota transmission and will do so again.
      The Honda Fit CVT is another matter though. Will not take the risk unless I find credible recommendation to do so.

    • @MarkDHall
      @MarkDHall  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@super8tube1 I'm not sure if I mentioned it in the video, but our transmission is not a CVT. It's an old fashioned 5 speed automatic. When I was younger and had just gotten married, I took my wife's car into a dealer to have the transmission flushed because it had never been serviced. It was higher mileage, and about 2 weeks after they flushed the engine, the transmission died. It was going to be $3000 25+ years ago, so we just sold the car. We spoke to a different mechanic afterward, and he said we shouldn't have had it serviced, especially flushed because it was so old any worn metal inside was "holding it together" and keeping it working. I'm not familiar with CVTs, but I know they are different. Again, I'd talk to people and try to read up, though I know there's not much info, and see how to proceed. You don't want to fool around, and you want it to run for years.

    • @MarkDHall
      @MarkDHall  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      2.6 quarts is the drain and fill amount that Honda says should be in the pan when doing a fluid change. Fluid typically doesn't drain out of the converter when the engine is off, but if it does, Honda has factored that into the 2.6 quart capacity. The dry amount is totally different and includes additional fluid that's needed to fill a new transmission and converter when completely empty.

    • @MarkDHall

      Hi Kevin. Yes, 4 came out and 3 went in. We had always had a shop work on the car, and they must have over filled it when they did the transmission fluid change at 60,000 miles. When we put in 3 quarts, the oil was exactly at the full line on the dipstick. If we had put in another quart, it would have been way over full.

      Hi Jeanne. I can't say for sure because it may have a different transmission.

    My level increase dramatically after it was warmed up

    • @MarkDHall
      @MarkDHall  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That usually happens. That's why you want to follow the manual, which usually says to check it when it's warm. Thank you for watching & have a great day!

    The correct amount is 3.5 quarts per Honda. If you only fill 3, the might not be level.

      According to our manual on page 269, the capacity is listed as 2.6 US quarts for the automatic transmission.

    So you put in 2 1/2 quarts?

    • @MarkDHall
      @MarkDHall  ปีที่แล้ว

      I apologize. It's been awhile since we did the fluid change, so I don't remember the exact amount we put in. I think it was 2 1/2 quarts. I think we put in 2 quarts an then kept checking the dipstick as we added more until it showed the proper level. I know that answer wasn't definitive, but I hope it helps. Thank you for watching!

    No transmission filter?

      For our model, it's an inline filter and is not a regularly scheduled maintenance item.

    Why don’t I have a dipstick?

    • @MarkDHall
      @MarkDHall  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good question. I not aware of any 2013 models that would have a "dipstick-less" transmission. Did you have any work done at a shop and they maybe checked the fluid and forgot to reinstall it?

    Honda DW1 fluid as used in the video is NOT designed for Honda Fit transmissions , Wrong fluid. Use Honda CVTF .

    • @MarkDHall
      @MarkDHall  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      We don’t have a CVT transmission. Using that transmission fluid in it, would be very bad.

      USA models 2007-2013 use this transmission fluid DW1. So he is correct in using this.

    This is completely wrong. You drain and fill once, not 3 times. If you do what he says your trans may stop working as the viscosity of the fluild in high milage vehicles is paramount.

    • @MarkDHall
      @MarkDHall  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The method we used is exactly how the Honda service manual, says to do it, including draining it 3 times. It's impossible to drain the transmission fully in one session. If you think you can, you are mistaken. If a transmission has no pre-existing damage (metal shavings/worn clutch packs), you should never use any fluid other than what the manufacturer recommends. Matt is a certified auto tech and has done hundreds of transmission fluid changes in his career.
