  • Peter was an early leader of the church. He started with the Jews and later his ministry expanded out from there. This first epistle (or letter) of Peter was written to multiple church communities outside of Israel, in the region we know as modern day turkey.
Unlike Paul who often would present a theological section followed by a practical section, Peter weaves theological ideas with practical ideas throughout the book. So you see the intermingling of big ideas about God with practical ideas about how we should live.
Most of this chapter is pretty self explanatory and I’ll let you soak it all in, but I wanted to highlight what I think the general theme of this letter is. I think the biggest overarching theme is that of suffering and persecution. And there are 2 main threads to that that I want you to look out for:
1- Peter depicts Jesus as the perfect example of dealing with suffering and rejection
And 2 - the church is called to emulate Jesus’ example. You will see these threads in every chapter of this book.
Branch Together brings Christians together to read the Bible every day. We know as Christians that we are called to "branch out" and reach the world around us, but first we must come "together" and develop habits that help us grow to be more like the people Jesus is calling us to be. So before we Branch Out, we Branch Together. Some people might call this Daily Devotions, or Quiet Time...whatever you call it, our videos kickstart your most important daily habit.
