    Being blown away by this character, I sent Daniel a portrait painting of Bill here in Ireland. He sent me back a letter saying “I shall hang it somewhere to remind my children should they get out of hand, that “The Butcher’s in the House” what a talented man he is really.

    “Only man I killed worth remembering” absolute epic line.

    • @pendragonU
      @pendragonU 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Priest was right, he never learned shame for being a murderer with an inflated ego
      He only remembered Priest because he could have killed him but he didnt. And he killed him because he recognized and remembered with him what is to be afraid of another men and be humble and graceful with God's gift. Jesus also knew they will kill him but was braver not using any of his Angels and Archangels or Powers All, walking fearless til his last hour of weakness being Human too.
      And Bill wasn't a true American but everything that in America became wrong, I believe he knew that and had outgrown being pleased by such selfstroking blindness or lie to self and was fed up and disappointed with all short of suicidal, he probably did say it for him to finish him and end the pains. I also believe that he probably knew long before if not since the start, that this kid not forgotten but so interested in him was that child of the Priest he probably knew will come back one day, and taking him specially under his wing was trying to make amends and adopt the orphan of his worst enemy revisiting his tormented own memories of childhood. In a way he probably wished to have a dad as big and protective as the Priest and so he said when saying he never had sons. Something even Priest was above him, a father he would have liked to be in so many ways like his hated enemy. People following and admiration of his antics came only from fear but Priest had something above him also on that, without terrorizing others going cannibal almost

      For those who don't know, The Butcher is based on real life butcher Bill Poole. He was bare knuckles champ of NY and led the Natives against foreign gangs. He won hundreds of street fights and could not be beaten. He was shot in the back by a coward. The end scene in the film at the cemetery is actually Pools real gravesite.

      @James Prime I don't know anything about those stories because I tend to avoid clickbait sites (insofar as that's possible nowadays). There is a handful of method actors who stay in character though. Daniel Day-Lewis stays in character between takes and during the filming of Lincoln he didn't use any technology and stayed in wardrobe some nights. I don't know anything about any crazy stories coming from it, but I've a lot about Day-Lewis's approach, and I think the particular stories about him are true.
      I also read somewhere that Wesley Snipes never breaks character for the entirety of filming a movie. He stays in his role even at the supermarket and on off-days and whatnot. Doesn't seem to help him much though...

    The real "Bill the Butcher," William Poole, died when he was 33 after he was ambushed in a bar. He challenged his antagonist to a fist fight, but was shot in the leg by another Dead Rabbit, and then got mortally shot in the chest, unarmed and wounded on the floor, by Lou Baker--a Dead Rabbit who Poole had previously beaten unconscious. On his death bed 14 days after being shot, surrounded by his Natives comrades, Poole's last words were, "Good bye boys, I die a true American."

      Silva.... Often I initially try to mentally repudiate such claims as yours, but it is generally futile. Autotune makes vocalists sound much better than they are, few vocalists write their own music. It happens in comedy, films and music alike. I won’t add fashion bc fashions are all pretty much silky, though tattoos have the potential for being permanently silly. There are exceptions. In music, well, I can’t list any. I hear a decent tune now and then. Heard a guy sing ‘Gravity’ on Idol that blew me away. Forget the artist but the Idol guy was better bc I checked out the original. With comedy there’s McKinnon and Hader. Che’s standup bits are actually pretty good.
