I've been thinking since the last ZZ video - and this is head-canon I suppose - that Moon Moon was originally settled by a significant Muslim and Christian population. Whatever disaster struck the colony destroyed the collective knowledge of their faiths but the notion that the crescent and the cross were to be revered remained and coalesced into their current holy symbol. As the Earth Federation is shown as being deeply inimical to religious thought, Moon Moon's original inhabitants would've been maintaining their beliefs in secret which would make them pretty susceptible to being lost.

I think Moon Moon was like Texas colony, a private owned amusement park in space, but with jungles and south american pyramids, temples and the like.
