There are specific sets that are for randbats. Some pokemon's only items can be something like specs/scarf. The pokemon switching in takes a certain threshold of damage. Specs will give a higher threshold, scarf will give a lower threshold. From the threshold, you can know what item the opposing pokemon has.

If the items could be life orb, choice band or scarf… if it’s not one band or lorb it’s guaranteed scarf
