  • The original Dunlop Roadsport tyres that came with the bike only lasted 5,000 miles and didn't give me much confidence. I replaced them with the Metzelers about a year ago and these are my unbiased thoughts about how well they performed and how long they have lasted.

    Ive gone through several sets as a daily commuter with a long trip. Yes when they square off they handle differently, but they are still safe and servicable. I run them down until the wear markers are gone. Paid for the whole tire so Im using the whole tire. Typically get 10-11k miles out of a rear on a very powerful 540 lb bike, carrying me at 200lb and about 40 lb of gear and luggage. I use SE not HWM. They just work. Im never surprised.

    I’ve been using RoadTec01 for several years, and I’m getting around 10-12,000km out of the rear…witch I think is fearly good.
    The have never let me down, still in our cold summers in Norway.
    And yes, me and my Buell XB12S love twisty roads!

    i finally fitted the S22 to my 900,a brilliant tyre with unlimited grip(well for me) but only got 3500 miles out of them so im thinking i will try the roadtec 01

    my 900 as only done 2500 miles so far on the original tyres so not quite ready for a new set,im glad your trying different tyres it will save me the expense of doing it lol.i was thinking along the line of bridgestone s22,probally not quite as good in the wet but the bikes mainly a weekender for fun in the sun on the B roads.

      Interested to know how you get on with whatever you end up with. I've got the Angels on now and so far, so good. I did look at the Bridgestone Battlax BT03, which looks like a better all rounder than the S22. I went with the Angels because I preferred the tread pattern!

    Funny I was recommended those metzeler tyres,, I looked at the roadtec o2 and metzeler z8 that ,, I settled on a pirelli gt in the end because they are on offer at good reductions from £340 to £240,, I looked at continental to but again they are north o
    f 300 quid, so tyres have got expensive.

    Can confirm at around 6,000km tyre went square and stayed that way all the way. It's not a corner tyre by any means 🙂That's for Roadtec 01.

    I run the non SE versions on my 1200GSA and love them in the rainy Pacific Northwest. I have no problems driving the same speed on the highways during the rain provided I leave enough breaking distance.

    I got a deal from sticky stuff tyres, 01 SE front with a Roadtec 01 rear tyre for. £210 delivered. I fitted and balanced them myself. My biggest issue was getting the old Dunlop Qualifier 2's off, they were a pig to remove and I felt pretty beat up the next day. Anyway I did 130 miles on them today and my impression was very good👍.

    I clicked on this video to see a review of these tyres and noticed you're quite the local boy! That Barnwood Bypass is always a treat whenever I leave the office. Did you get your tyres from Chris Mullens then?
    Anyhoo, I've been running BT023s for my Fazer Thou and prior to that my CBR500R commuters and they're much of a muchness for doing the dual carriageway duties, if all you're ever going to do is wear them down on the A417. However, I can vouch for their M9RRs if you want more of a weekend street tyre and only doing something like 2k miles a year. I've got them on my R1 and makes the A48 commute and roundabout surfing by Innsworth a bit more fun.

    • @bikerevz
      @bikerevz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, these were from Chris Mullens. They were great for grip but yeah they wore down real quick in the middle with all this dual carriage way riding. I have Angel STs on now and whilst they are 10 yr tech with average reviews, I am loving them. Also lasting a bit longer.

    I had 1 pair of 01 ones on my vfr800. They was wearing out after 8000 kilometer. Very nice tyres. But a bit soft for touring through Europe. I like z8 and angel gt2 better. They don't square off as fast and are more sporty in corners.

    I remember that the front Roadtec 01 SE on my Z900 had a much flatter profile than the OEM Dunlop Roadsport 2.
    I got to the edge of that tyre pretty much straight away.
    Weirdly it was the exact opposite on the rear, where the Metzeler had a much steeper profile.
    Maybe the wear on the front is down to the profile being so flat?

    • @bikerevz
      @bikerevz  ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest, I didn't notice a flat profile on the front when I put them on. Seems like I had exactly the opposite experience to you in that the rear was more of a flat profile and the front was pretty rounded until near the end. I guess it could be down to riding styles or the types of road we are on.

  • @Roy_Godiksen

    The SE is Not ment for commuting. It's a sport tire with touring ability. Go for the harder regular tires,and you'll have less issues. I have pulled power wheelies on M9RR's if pouring rain on 2 of my bikes (ZX10R and S1000R). The Angel ST is basically an old and wors version of the Angel GT, but are more than capable of commuting. I'll be checking that review.

  • @greywolf9292

    I see from the comments you seem to be getting on with the ST's, I had them on a Triumph 1050 Tiger Sport, I found they squared off pretty quick and didn't inspire confidence in cold wet conditions. Aren't they single compound? I did consider the GT or GT2's as a replacement but went with Road 5's which were the same price as the GT2's which although a great tyre is reported as tracking in tar grooves due to the twin trench treads on the front. I loved the Road 5's but replaced the bike with an FZ1-S which had Dunlop Sportsmax which were fine untill faced with cold wet conditions. Again I swapped them for Road 5's and again noticed a marked difference in handling and confidence.
    I've since bought a ZZR 1400 with Bridgestone Battlax's, they were great in wet or dry but again didn't like cold wet conditions. I'll not swap the Bridgestone's out untill they need replacing but again it'll be Road 5's or 6's. Sure they're expensive but cold wet conditions account for many months here in Scotland and I rather feel safe than risk otherwise for the sake of £100.

    • @bikerevz
      @bikerevz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not getting alot of love for the STs! So far they have been fine in the wet and dry and I've taken them to the edge without any problems. I do think you may well be right about using them in the cold, I can feel that they don't keep their heat very well. We will have to see once it starts to get a bit colder here. I've done about 750 miles so far and that's not enough to see if they will square off. I think I'll have to do a 4K review in the winter.

    • @greywolf9292
      @greywolf9292 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bikerevz Glad your finding them OK so far, I just found that cold and wet combined made them too unpredictable. The Bridgestone's on the ZZR didn't get great reviews either. My first ride on them from new was in the wet and I was feeling pretty confident in them for several months but again cold and damp roads saw them struggle a bit.

    In this case you should start looking for touring tires, tires have more stiffer middle rubber than sport tires and soft on the sides. I've had same issue, I switched on old and cheap tires Metzeler Z8 interact -, paid £200 incl fitting, for me very good and not expensive.. Tires looks like new and have done 5000 miles but I am happy to change new set of tires every year and sleep without stress

      I own Z900 2021, its a sport naked bike, and doesnt matter what bike I'll own - the issue with square tires will happen because I ride on motorways. I am not going do twisties - roads are busy and has some debris.Just replace tires when worn and fit new every year.

    Hi
    First of all sorry for my bad english but I'd like to collect info what helps me choosing the right tire for my Yamaha FZ6.
    I'm rookie...I mean very very new in the world of bigbikes. I bought my bike at the end of October. I took around 1000kms to it during the months and yesterday I realised I have a puncture in the rear tire so I have to change them.
    Checked the tests and seems Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE should be the perfect choice but for me (as a rookie) I 'm not sure the best in tests would be the best. I don't want to put myself down to the tarmac in a fast corner, I have limited skills (at the moment :D) so I think I'll square off my tire fast. I need the best for a decent ride for long tours.
    Will this Metzeler the best choice or should I choose Michelin Road5 (I read that it has puncture problem?!) or anything else (Metz Z8, Pirelli Angel ST, Bridgestone T31)?! I have no experience to make right decision I'm new in this world :) I can't afford the latest models (PR6, Metz Roadtec 02...etc)
    Thank You very very much for Your answer in Advance.

    • @bikerevz
      @bikerevz  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, metzeler are great tyres and very grippy, even when cold. Problem is that they dont lastvery long and go square unless you so a lot of twisties! I keep going back to Pirrelli Angels as they last ages and don't square off.
      Your English is great, no apologies needed.

    I fitted some Pirelli Angel GT II around 1k miles ago to my Z900, had them on a previous bike and loved them, but on the Z900 they don't feel so good when banked over, will be good to hear your opinion as I've either got a duff pair or I'm being a big girl about it.
